February 2019

Journeying through Luke's gospel. Gruene UMC is on a journey through the Gospel of Luke! This journey began in Advent and will continue through Easter- as we take an in depth look at the Good News for all people that the angels in Luke’s Gospel proclaim. For several weeks now we have been exploring the unique themes of Luke: all are welcome, the blessing of the poor, recovery of sight to the blind, and freedom for the captives. We join the early church communities as we break bread together and learn the way Jesus… a strength through humble service as we hear his words and act on them. Whether the story of Jesus in Luke’s Gospel is brand new to you- or familiar, it is our deep hope that you would find yourself... blessed, moved, called, filled with wonder, comforted, at the same time- challenged by the Living Word of God.

Grace and Peace, Pastor Dan

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it

does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs." 1 Corinthians 13:4-5

This Month • Run Feed Love 5K • Gruene Tree Learning Center • Healing Hands Prayer Ministry • Suppers of Eight • Steve’s Pantry

Gruene Tree Learning Center January has come and gone, and February is knocking on the door! This month has been one where I have really enjoyed just observing the children. As I’ve been peering into the class windows, I think back to the beginning of the school year where…lets be honest… it was pure crazy town! While I peer in NOW, I see a rhythm between the teachers and students. I hear stories, giggles, and conversations galore. But most importantly, it is the special feeling in my heart. I know, without a shadow of a doubt, that Jesus, our Heavenly Father, is sitting right there amongst them all…grinning from ear to ear! Blessings, Rebecca Goossens GTLC Director

Healing Hands Prayer Ministry officially launched January 17th. The purpose of the ministry is to provide a safe space for people to be in an atmosphere of prayer, be prayed for, and/or learn different methods for praying alone and/or for others. Our Mission & Outreach Building is open to the public to come and go as desired from 12:30-1:30p every Thursday. Prayer works!

“Suppers of Eight” Coming in March! A new group will be starting in March called “Suppers of Eight.” This is a home fellowship group designed to help you meet other folks at church. It is for 28 couples who will start on a rotation where they will meet and have dinner together. Each month a couple will be assigned to be the host along with 3 other couples. The host will provide the main dish and an appetizer and the other 3 couples will be asked to provide a side and dessert. Each month an email will be sent with the rotation couples names and contact information. Each host will contact their group and set a time to meet for dinner and fellowship. Each couple is asked to make a commitment to the group for 8 months for it to be a success. If a couple can not commit for the entire 8 months than they can be put on a list as a substitute.
