On behalf of the Board of Directors, we are excited for the year ahead and the many initiatives that are being planned to support our members, Association and industry. From workforce development to community engagement to member services…we need your participation to achieve success.
Workforce Development: Our workforce initiatives are expanding. Over the past year, through the generosity of members who made significant contributions to our Scholarship Endowment…we are investing more than $300,000 in a restricted fund…in which the annual dividends will be available to provide skilled trades training scholarships and grants. We have awarded our first scholarships and look forward to awarding many more in the years ahead.
We would like to thank Will Yearns, Granville Homes, who has championed our efforts since the formation of this committee in 2018. Will is passing the chairmanship this year to Kevin Pegram, Kylind Services. Kevin has been instrumental in creating the Endowment and will continue to move us forward.
Through our partnerships with educational and workforce development organizations…we are focusing on building awareness of career opportunities within our industry. To increase our effectiveness, we need greater member participation. We encourage you to attend our upcoming quarterly committee meeting on April 22 and explore how you might help.
Advocacy: Monitoring and addressing regulatory and legislative issues impacting our business and industry remains a top priority and benefit of membership on the local, state and national level through our affiliation with TREBIC, NCHBA and NAHB.
We are honored to have Jim Tobin, NAHB President & CEO , join us for our annual awards meeting on April 2 providing updates on critical issues impacting housing. If you haven’t heard Jim before, don’t miss this informative presentation.
On June 5, our Builders & Remodelers Council will have Cliff Isaac, NCHBA Director of Codes and Construction, join us to provide the most recent updates on the new building codes that go into effect July 1. NCHBA continues to monitor and advocate on our behalf with the Building Code Council and legislature on issues that impact our members.
Member Engagement: We greatly value your membership and encourage you to take advantage of the numerous and varied benefits and services available. We understand that your time may be limited for attending meetings and events. As an association, we want to meet your needs…therefore if there are any areas that you feel we should consider…please reach out and let us know. As you will see in this issue, as well as in our weekly Member News emails and on our website, there are numerous opportunities for involvement from educational programs…to marketing and networking events…to community engagement.
Our First Wednesday Member Connections continue to grow and provide an opportunity to meet other industry members in a casual setting. We will be hosting Member Connect events immediately prior to share Association updates and answer questions you may have. Whether a new member or longtime member…you are invited to join in the discussion. We hope to see you there!
Engage…Connect
Being part of our association is more than just membership—it’s an opportunity to grow, connect, and make an impact for our industry.
There are a variety of member benefits and services available including marketing and networking…education and leadership development…special events…workforce development…community engagement…advocacy support…along with member savings and more.
Whether you’re a longtime member or new to the industry, being actively engaged can provide opportunities to expand your business, strengthen professional relationships, and give back to our community. We recognize that everyone is extremely busy and therefore you need to invest your time wisely.
As you will see on the next few pages…there are opportunities within our committees and councils to participate…most of which have quarterly planning meetings…as well as a variety of membership meetings and special events available throughout the year.
To get started and determine your best entry point…

Professional Women in
Building Chair: Noelle Graves Staff Liaison: Cheryl Collins
We are kicking off the beginning of our third year as a local PWB council with 80+members! It’s a dynamic group of women within our industry who come together for education & professional development…networking & marketing… community engagement…and to support workforce development and construction careers initiatives.
During March…we are participating in Habitat Greensboro’s Women Build… we encourage you to join our fundraising initiative to support affordable housing in our community. Find information on the website including a link to make a financial donation in support of our PWB team.
New for this year…we are looking to implement a pilot program at Northwest High School with a high school club focused on women in construction…watch for additional details coming soon.
Not a member of our PWB…it’s easy to join. Sign up on the website under Councils…annual dues are $100 which provides membership also in the state and national PWB councils.
Celebrating 35 years with a focus on professional remodeling…we are looking to expand this year and encourage anyone involved in residential and/or commercial remodeling to join us. In our recent Remodeler Roundtable, we discussed the greatest challenges facing those engaged in remodeling…and brainstormed educational programs and events to support Association members.
Giving back to the community has always been an integral part of this council. This spring we are renovating a home for a disabled veteran in Greensboro which has sustained significant water damage. Any members interested in helping are encouraged to join us in this renovation scheduled to begin in April. Contact Steve Batts, Batts Builders for additional information at (336) 215-4530.
If you are engaged in any aspect of remodeling…we encourage you to join our Remodelers Council which also includes membership in the NAHB Remodelers Council providing informational and educational resources…annual dues are $75.
Industry News
NC Building Code Update: June 5
Our Builders and Remodelers Council will be hosting a presentation on the new NC Building Codes featuring Cliff Isaac, NCHBA Director of Codes and Construction on Thursday, June 5 from 12 noon – 1:30 pm. Updates will be provided on the three codes which builders, homeowners, inspectors, developers, engineers, etc. will need to comply as July 1, 2025.
• 2024 NC Residential Code
• 2023 NC Electrical Code
• 2024 NC Administrative Code and Policies
NCHBA continues to monitor the status of the published codes and will advise when the 2024 NC Residential Code books are available. Watch for additional details on this meeting…reservations will be required by June 2.
NCHBA Legislative Conference: May 6-7
NCHBA’s Legislative Conference and quarterly meeting will be held in Raleigh on Tuesday, May 6 with the annual Legislative Reception that afternoon. On Wednesday morning, May 7 members from across the state will gather at the General Assembly to meet with lawmakers and advocate for legislative priorities focused on creating additional housing and jobs in our state.
NC Build PAC: Your Support Is Needed
This past year our legislative team had a significant impact on code and regulatory issues impacting our industry. To continue to maintain our effectiveness in Raleigh and locally… we need your support of NC BUILD-PAC. It is essential during election years that we are able to support candidates that understand and will fight for issues important to us. This year we have the Greensboro City Council elections and need your support. Donations must be made from your personal account. Corporate checks and credit cards are not allowed. Additional information including a link to donate can be found at: www.nchba.org/goverment-affairs/nc-build-pac . Make sure to list Greensboro Builders as your local HBA so that a percentage of your donation goes to our reserve for city and county elections.
NCHBA Group Health Insurance
If you are exploring options for company health insurance, the NCHBA Group Insurance Trust may be an option for consideration. The plan is offered to association members that have at least 2 employees (a spouse does not meet the definition of an employee) and whose business is directly related to the home building industry. You can join the plan at any time throughout the year. To learn more about the health insurance program and request additional information, visit www. nchba.org/nchba-group-insurance-trust.
