DEAR GROVE CITY, You are the place that has helped me grow personally and professionally over the last six years. Over those six years, Grove City has challenged my preconceptions about what this city has to offer. Not only is it a wonderful place to live and work, but it also has so much more to offer than I expected. From the cutest mom and pop shops to delicious local restaurants to some of the best hiking you can find in central Ohio, Grove City is constantly surprising me in unexpected ways. I love that no matter what you may think when first visiting, you’re going to walk away fulfilled from the adventures this quaint little city has offered you. It’s challenged me in the best of ways, and I hope it challenges you to step outside your comfort zone and truly experience the joy this community has brought me.
Alexa Alcaraz, CTA Marketing Manager
DEAR GROVE CITY, How do I love thee? Let me count the ways:
• I love thee for without you, I’d have no place to call home.
• I love thee for my soulmate of 38 years and our meeting at Grove City High School.
• I love thee for our two daughters and the many teams, activities, and groups that helped them grow.
• I love thee for our community’s openness to learn about diversity, as we raise our Awesomely Autistic Grandson and watch our wonderful parents age-in-place. and lastly:
• I love thee for your rich history, beautiful parks, and many opportunities for small and large families and businesses to grow.
Thank you, Grove City, for letting me call you “My Hometown.”
Teresa Breckenridge, CTA Sales & Communications Manager
HOME is not simply the house where you grew up or “where the heart is.” Fact is, a hometown is more than a place; it’s a feeling evoked by cherished memories that map out our unique perspectives on this Earth.
I’m lucky to call Grove City my hometown. I grew up exploring the wooded trails and creeks of Battelle Darby Creek, pretending to be a pirate paddling down the Big Darby Creek at Trapper John’s, taking field trips to visit local businesses on Broadway (cue Skate America!), and riding my bike to [Mona’s] Eats and Treats.
As an adult, I lean on my hometown to reset after long days or stressful situations, and I share my favorite places with my family. I find my inner peace on the Mingo Trail at Scioto Grove, where the sounds of water flowing carries my worries downstream. I look for red-tailed and red-shouldered hawks as I walk at Fryer Park. I take my kids to pretend to be pirates at Trapper John’s and witness the joy on their faces when they repeat some of the same experiences I had. Grove City soothes my soul and resets my spirit. I hope Grove City gives you a slice of the same inner peace when you visit. What will your experience be?
Amanda Davis, CTA Executive Director
TO GROVE CITY, You have been my home for a decade. Grove City is the place where I chose to put down my roots. What I love about my town is that it has options — options for indoor and outdoor adventures, options for shopping, options of cool attractions to show my visiting friends and family. My favorite way to explore my town is by bicycle, which has given me a new view of what is all around me. There are miles of trails in town and some that can eventually connect to Columbus, Ohio’s capital city. And we are sandwiched between two amazing Metro Parks, Battelle Darby Creek and Scioto Grove. Both of which offer things like hiking, biking, canoe/ kayak access, fishing, and all-around great views. What better way to escape the hustle and bustle of the city?
Grove City is not a small town, but it has that small town feel. I can go to the Historic Town Center and see familiar faces around or chat with the business owners who have become my friends. You can feel the support in the community when there are sports events and festivals. I came here to live when I finally went out on my own, and I chose to stay because I just fell in love with our community.

Grove City with Mini Mama roaming Roaming
The bison herd at Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park have often inspired visitors and artists of all kinds to snap photos, write stories, and create art. One of these artists is local Isolina Herrera, who moved to the Grove City area from Venezuela to be closer to her family. When the team from Visit Grove City learned that Isolina handcrafts stuffed animals, they asked her to create some adorable plushie bison, each with their own splash of personality.
Visit Grove City’s very own mascot!
One of these bison became our very own Mini Mama, who is named after the matriarch of the real bison herd, Big Mama. Mini Mama loves to adventure around Grove City and invites you to join her herd. We Put the Altogether in adventure adventure
By Rachel Hagenbaugh
Everyone needs a little adventure in their lives, and Grove City takes great pride in helping people discover their #AltogetherAdventure Experiences, programs, and attractions around the city are catered to people of all ages, abilities, and orientations, ensuring the community offers something for everyone to enjoy.
“It’s important for all people to feel a part of the community,” says Leslie Anderson, vice chair of the board for Pride in GC, which formed in 2022 to support diversity in Grove City and bring people together. Earlier this year, the organization hosted its first Pride Weekend. “It was amazing to walk through downtown and see all of the rainbow balloons and banners
from all of our supporters. We had a lot of people come out and thank us for starting the event, as it meant so much for them to have this weekend of inclusivity in their town.”
Howdy Lamprecht, a 44-year resident of Grove City, says he and his wife feel blessed to be a part of the community. They have three special needs grandchildren and appreciate Grove City’s dedication to providing experiences for those of all abilities.
“We have such a great parks and recreation system, and they are always improving the facilities for those with different abilities,” he says, highlighting the Dream Field Playground at Windsor Park, which provides a sensory-rich environment filled with activities that support cognitive development, intuitive play, and social interaction. Gantz Park, known as the city’s nature park, also offers an all-purpose experience complete with a bonded surface, ramps, and features like bigger, equipment and a natural
Windsor Park is also to the Grove City Buddy Ball program, which creates opportunities people of all ages to baseball regardless ability. “Buddy Ball barriers that keep and adults with mental disabilities off of the baseball field,” says Lamprecht, one of seven board members who organizes the program. Buddy Ball teams play on Mirolo Dream Field at Mount Carmel Stadium, a custom-designed, tiled, rubberized surface that accommodates wheelchairs and other assistive devices.
“Grove City is an incredible city that continues to have growth,” says Anderson. “It is encouraging to think that with this growth, the inclusivity of Grove City will continue to expand, and everyone will feel welcomed in our city.”

Grove City Brewing Company
How Grove City Brewing Company became a champion for the small business community
Trevor Luther was a Grove City transplant from upstate New York and a home brewer. His wife, Samantha Wiggins Luther, grew up in Grove City, and it was through her that Trevor met Dave and Diane Crosby, owners of Plum Run Winery. “Dave was interested in getting a brewery going, heard about my home brewing, and asked if I was interested in partnering.” And so Grove City Brewing Company (GCBC) was born, joining the winery in a building in the city’s Town Center. “I’m glad it worked out this way,” Luther says. “I love the downtown area. It’s very quaint, has a nice hometown feel, and is a great place to be.”
In fact, Luther collaborated with a few other small mom and pop businesses on an ale called “Altogether Adventure
Ale,” so named for Visit Grove City’s Altogether Adventure brand. It was set for release at area bars and restaurants just when the pandemic hit, so Luther bottled it and turned the sales into a fundraiser for a newly formed non-profit, Project Altogether.
“We put all proceeds into a fund for neighborhood small businesses that suffered [during the shutdown].” Around $10,000 was raised, and the funds were given out confidentially to places in Grove City that needed a little help with rent or utility bills.
“I’m proud of the Grove City community, and we support it any way we can,” Luther says. “And at the brewery, we take great pride in the fact that people come in to celebrate their achievements and special days with us.”
For his involvement in the community, Luther was a 2021 Trailblazer Award Winner This award is given by Visit Grove City to the people, places, and organizations that forge a path of greatness in the community and make Grove City a great place to visit.

Kim Conrad is the Director of Parks and Recreation in Grove City. She shares what you need to know about pickleball – a badminton, tennis, and ping pong combo – which has become a popular part of the Grove City public park scene.
WHEN DID THE FIRST PICKLEBALL COURTS COME TO GROVE CITY?
We first opened the six pickleball courts, now available at Windsor Park, in 2020.
WHAT MAKES PICKLEBALL SO POPULAR?
The appeal is that truly any age and ability can participate. The sport is very inclusive.
WHAT LEVEL OF ABILITY DO YOU NEED TO PLAY?
Because our main focus is public fun, it runs the gamut. We have a lot
of people who enjoy hitting the ball around and don’t care how well they do, while some play at a higher level and are competitive.
WILL THERE BE MORE COURTS TO LOOK FORWARD TO?
Yes! When the seven pickleball courts open at Beulah Community Park, hopefully in spring of 2023, Grove City’s courts will more than double.

Music & More The heart of music in Grove City, you can find books, music, instruments, music lessons, and more!
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE GROVE CITY FOR THE LOCATION OF YOUR MUSIC SHOP?
Honestly, my parents chose it in 1968. I have been fortunate enough to watch individuals, groups, clubs, church groups, and school organizations grow over the years through what we have to offer in music lessons, supplies, sheet music, and purchasing instruments.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT WORKING IN GROVE CITY?
I kind of consider it cheating, but I like the “Mayberry” hometown feel we have. I think it is a family-oriented kind of place where people can feel safe. We get to offer music, something that everyone can do and benefit from.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO BE A PART OF GROVE CITY’S CULTURE?

For the music lover, Pontones Music offers a large selection of handcrafted instruments, music supplies, and sheet music.
I love watching that once quirky young individual that might have been pegged as a strange-bird, yet found playing an instrument at a young age, come back as an older teen or young adult with major “guitar riffs” and confidence in their musical abilities. That’s one thing with music; you don’t have to be good at it to enjoy it!
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO VISIT IN GROVE CITY?
I have to say our Grove City Library. To see all ages and diversity, learning about music, different cultures, etc. It’s a wonderful resource for all to enjoy.

I spend most of my time in and around Grove City. It’s my community — it was the only community I looked at for my business. I wanted to bring plants and good vibes to my people.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO IN YOUR FREE TIME AROUND GROVE CITY?
I like to visit the local parks when the weather is nice. I also love enjoying a delicious cup of coffee with friends at Transcend and browsing shops in the Town Center.
WHAT MAKES GROVE CITY SO UNIQUE?
Grove City has a small-town community feel that I love. I often meet people in my shop that have mutual friends or acquaintances of mine. I like feeling connected to the people I’m serving.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT PLANTS, AND WHAT CAN PEOPLE EXPECT AT YOUR STORE?
Plants make people happy. They not only look great in our homes, they have wonderful health benefits, improving the indoor air quality and our mental health. The Wild Seed is a groovy plant vibes shop that inspires joy, happiness and self-love through a collection of houseplants and curated gifts for the soul.
