ask a local: ask a local: Maria Pontones

Maria Pontones is owner of Pontones

Music & More The heart of music in Grove City, you can find books, music, instruments, music lessons, and more!

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE GROVE CITY FOR THE LOCATION OF YOUR MUSIC SHOP?

Honestly, my parents chose it in 1968. I have been fortunate enough to watch individuals, groups, clubs, church groups, and school organizations grow over the years through what we have to offer in music lessons, supplies, sheet music, and purchasing instruments.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT WORKING IN GROVE CITY?

I kind of consider it cheating, but I like the “Mayberry” hometown feel we have. I think it is a family-oriented kind of place where people can feel safe. We get to offer music, something that everyone can do and benefit from.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO BE A PART OF GROVE CITY’S CULTURE?

OTHER WAYS TO ENGAGE

OTHER WAYS TO ENGAGE

Prefer to take in someone else’s artistic expression? Here are some other ways to get inspired and creative:

If you’re a fan of musicals, comedies, and dramas, you’re in luck! Little Theatre Off Broadway (LTOB) presents six shows each season.

Or are you looking for a uniquely curated marketplace of antiques, artworks, or furniture?

Explore the eclectic space at Sommer House Gallery & Co. to find your new one-of-a-kind piece of home decor.

For the music lover, Pontones Music offers a large selection of handcrafted instruments, music supplies, and sheet music.

I love watching that once quirky young individual that might have been pegged as a strange-bird, yet found playing an instrument at a young age, come back as an older teen or young adult with major “guitar riffs” and confidence in their musical abilities. That’s one thing with music; you don’t have to be good at it to enjoy it!

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO VISIT IN GROVE CITY?

I have to say our Grove City Library. To see all ages and diversity, learning about music, different cultures, etc. It’s a wonderful resource for all to enjoy.
