Óansæð kunnu vit gleðast um, at møguleikin hevur verið fyri at hava framsýningina her hesi árini.

WELCOME For the third year in a row, Norðoya Listafelag hosts SUMMARLIST in Posthúskjallarin. It has become an annual event that has gotten a firm grip on the public. The intention behind SUMMARLIST has always been to provide a stage for contemporary art, and we found one in the very heart of Klaksvík. The exhibition opens on Norðoyastevna and lasts until Sjómannadagurin, two of the major events of the summer that signal the beginning and the end of summer in the Northern Islands. There was doubt as to whether SUMMARLIST could use Posthúskjallarin as the location of the exhibition due to the expansion of the iconic post office, which is to accommodate the new culture house right in the middle of the city. Time will tell if this is the last time the exhibition will be held in this gallery. In all circumstances, we can rejoice that we have had the opportunity to have the exhibit here these last few years.

Again this year there will be a broad selection of contemporary artists. SUMMARLIST 2019 encompasses everything from paintings, drawings, linoleum prints, installation- and video art, to textile art of various kinds. The artists are different: some are contemporary, others have been active for many years, and others still are new in their field. The common denominator for them all is that quality is imperial. Visitors can get inspired, see excellent works of art, and perhaps get something to think about, too. With these words, Norðoya Listafelag welcomes you to SUMMARLIST 2019.

Bárður hevur støðugt sýnt fram og verið undir listarligari menning, síðan hann debuteraði á Várframsýningini í 2007. Hann hevur verið limur í Føroysk Myndlistafólk síðan 2009 og arbeiðir mest við figurativari málningalist, tekningum, skurðum og grafikki. Bárður býr og arbeiðir á Christianshavn, Keypmannahavn.

Been a member of the Faroese Painter’s Association since 2009, he works mainly with figurative painting, drawings, carvings and graphic art. Bárður lives and works in Christianshavn, Copenhagen.

“Time” is a series of images, wherein Bárður contemplates the core of time as a tangible, untiring motion, while also being an abstract and notional phenomenon, where different ideas and events meet in a manufactured world.

Brandur hevur síðani barnárini arbeitt fyri pápan, Trónd Patursson, hiðan hann hevur fingið listaliga frálæru.

From a young age, Brandur has worked for his father, Tróndur Patursson, from whom he received his artistic education.

Hann hevur verið við á nógvum framsýningum og gjørt eitt ótal av uppgávum við glaslist. Listin hjá Brandur snýr seg mest um at arbeiða við glasi, ljósi og spegling.

Brandur has participated in numerous exhibitions and made countless commissions of glass art. As an artist, Brandur mainly works with glass, light and reflection.

For this exhibition, he is working with a glass video installation, having the eye as the motif. The work process is to make a glass object that works as a lens put in front of a video projector. This will create an interplay between light, video and glass art, which the artist calls Optic Works.

WHALE-WAR (DETAIL) - 2019

Graduated from the School of Decorative Arts in Copenhagen (1987-1991). Edward Fuglø works with paintings and installations of various kinds. He regularly exhibits his art, and he has made several ornamental commissions, illustrated many books, and written children’s books under his name. The piece “Whale-War” is a life-size pilot whale made out of plastic toy soldiers. A sound collage of whale sounds, the driving of pilot whales, traditional faroese ballads and statements made by various people, comes from within the whale. The piece is a commentary to the debate and war on the killing of pilot whales – a centuries-old Faroese tradition that has caused discord and stirred intense emotion in and between the Faroese people and international organisations, frequently needing the involvement of the police.

Graduated from the Askov Jensens Drawing School in Copenhagen (1971-72) and the Royal Danish Arts Academy (1972-78). Eyðun has moved from the figurative to the more abstract, where the colour distribution is the most crucial element. In recent years, he has worked with light and colours that we know from the Faroese nature. He has primarily dealt with descriptions of nature, for instance of surf, the play of light, and weather phenomenon.

EYÐUN AV REYNI

Sjálvlærdur. Finleif er listamálari, ið ger naturalistiskar kompositiónir, sum hava íblástur frá føroysku náttúruni. Til hesa framsýning hevur hann málningin “Spegilsmynd”, hvørs Íblástur kemur frá tí høga og dramatiska Kunoyafjalli, sum til tíðir sær út sum, at tað liggur inni á vánni, og aðrar tíðir tykist meira fjarstatt.

Autodidact. Finleif is a painter who creates naturalistic compositions inspired by Faroese nature. The inspiration for the painting ‘Reflected Image’ comes from the tall and slightly dramatic mountain ‘Kunoyarfjall’, which sometimes can appear to be lying in the bay, while at other times it may seem more remote.

Útbúgvin professionsbachelor i tekstildesign, håndværk og formidling (klædnamiðlari) á UCC í Keypmannahavn (2016).

Holds a professional bachelor’s degree in Textile Design, Handcraft and Communication (Textile Communicator) at UCC in Copenhagen (2016).

When Fía designs clothes, she often draws inspiration from something peculiar, historical, or from things that are right in front of her. While she was a student, she became very interested in the textile industry and its impact on the world.

Tað ger hana kedda, at endurnýtsluklæðir ofta eru óslitin, og at merkið mangan framvegis situr í. Tað kann ikki vera meiningin, at klæðir verða framleidd og fara ígjøgnum eina stóra tilgongd, sum er dálkandi fyri jørðina, fyri bert at verða keypt og blakað burtur. Úr hesum tonkum kemur hennara verk, OYÐSL, til SUMMARLIST 2019.

It makes her sad to see that recycled clothes often are unused, with the price tag still attached. She finds it unacceptable that garments undergo rigorous development and production, usually in a polluting manner, only to be bought and immediately discarded. Her work OYÐSL comes to SUMMARLIST 2019 as a result of these thoughts.
