7-10

My beloved friends, let us continue to love each other since love comes from God. Everyone who loves is born of God and experiences a relationship with God. The person who refuses to love doesn’t know the first thing about God, because God is love – so you can’t know him if you don’t love. This is how God showed his love for us: God sent his only Son into the world so we might live through him. This is the kind of love we are talking about – not that we once upon a time loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to clear away our sins and the damage they’ve done to our relationship with God.

11-12

My dear, dear friends, if God loved us like this, we certainly ought to love each other. No one has seen God, ever. But if we love one another, God dwells deeply within us, and his love becomes complete in us – perfect love!

13-16 This is how we know we’re living steadily and deeply in him, and he in us: He’s given us life from his life, from his very own Spirit. Also, we’ve seen for ourselves and continue to state openly that the Father sent his Son as Savior of the world. Everyone who confesses that Jesus is God’s Son participates continuously in an intimate relationship with God. We know it so well, we’ve embraced it heart and soul, this love that comes from God.

TO LOVE, TO BE LOVED

17-18 God is love. When we take up permanent residence in a life of love, we live in God and God lives in us. This way, love has the run of the house, becomes at home and mature in us, so that we’re free of worry on Judgment Day – our standing in the world is identical with Christ’s. There is no room in love for fear. Well-formed love banishes fear. Since fear is crippling, a fearful life – fear of death, fear of judgment – is one not yet fully formed in love.

19 We, though, are going to love – love and be loved. First we were loved, now we love. He loved us first.

20-21

If anyone boasts, “I love God,” and goes right on hating his brother or sister, thinking nothing of it, he is a liar. If he won’t love the person he can see, how can he love the God he can’t see? The command we have from Christ is blunt: Loving God includes loving people. You’ve got to love both.

Infinite Legacy is a nonprofit organ procurement organization (OPO) serving almost 10 million people in Maryland, Northern Virginia and Washington, DC. We facilitate organ, eye and tissue donation and educate people about the critical importance of registering to be a donor.

Infinite Legacy works with 68 hospitals and eight transplant centers to decrease the number of people waiting for a lifesaving transplant. We are passionate about giving life and restoring hope while honoring the legacy and generosity of donors and providing care to their families.

DID YOU KNOW?

Studies show that transplant recipients have better medical outcomes when the donor is from the same ethnic group.

The number of minority transplant candidates is growing much faster than the number of minority donors.

African Americans make up 31 percent of the national kidney waiting list, but only 14 percent of the US population, and they have higher rates of diabetes and blood pressure.

Black History Month originated in 1926 by Carter G. Woodson as Negro History Week. The month of February was chosen in honor of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln, who were both born in that month. It has been set aside to reflect upon the accomplishments and achievements as well as the struggles and tribulations of a race of people who ended up on the shores of America many centuries ago. For one entire month, schools, churches, museums, and the media will celebrate and honor African-Americans and their history in every walk of life.

I believe everything we do is history. From day to day we are constantly making history whether we realize it or not. That is why it is so important to make each day of our lives count. At the end of the day we should be able to look back over the day and make note of what was accomplished. As the days turn into weeks, months and years, those years become the fabric of our lives. Woven into the fabric of our lives are our successes, accomplishments and struggles that all become part of our history.

As African-Americans, it is our responsibility to know Black History. We should know who we are and where we come from. Take the time to teach your children, they should learn all there is to know about their heritage. Black History should start with the family. We can pass our history along from generation to generation within our own families. We can celebrate our individual families’ successes and triumphs and support them during their struggles. I believe it will teach our children self-confidence, self-respect and most of all selflove. Many of us may only be able to trace back two or three generations, but we need to make it a point to tell our children about their ancestors, and repeat it as often as possible.

EPPSJackie

We may not ever find that link that connects every black person to their African roots, but we will discover that there is plenty of rich ‘Black History’ right in our own back yards. And last but certainly not least, we can teach our children that through God’s word we can trace and link ourselves to the root that brought forth our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. For the word of God tells us in Roman 8:16-17, “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and jointheirs with Christ.”

This month’s issue is dedicated to the history of African-Americans. It is very exciting to add a new chapter each year of our lives to this ever developing story. Stick your chest out and in the words of the late James Brown, “Say it loud, I’m Black and I’m Proud!”

Bishop Damion E. Berry Lady Michelle L. Berry

Q&A Interview - Bishop Damion E. Berry

G&G: Bishop Berry, welcome to Grace & Glory Magazine. It is an honor to feature you for Black History Month. Historically the Black Church played a significant role in the Black community. What does Black History Month mean to you?

Bishop Berry: Black History has been an intricate part of who I am as a Father, Son and a Pastor. We are all aware of how the family has been affected by the absence of the FATHER in the house and being absent from the lives of our children. My MOM raised three boys in Perkins Projects by herself. I watched her struggle, and I made a promise to myself that if GOD gave me the chance at FATHERHOOD, that I would do my absolute best to be in their life. Was I perfect, did I dot every ‘I’ and cross every ‘T’? NO, but I did my very best to show my Daughters that they are WIVES not girlfriends and my Sons that they are HUSBANDS and not boyfriends. I taught them with the help of their moms that they are leaders not followers. I truly believe if we focus on our PAST, we will affect our PRESENT, and we will destroy our FUTURE.

G&G: Bishop Berry, you are the founding Pastor of God’s Church Ministries. Let’s go back to when your journey in ministry first began. Would you share with us the vision and story behind God’s Church Ministries? Bishop Berry: This may sound disturbing, but it is the truth. GOD’S CHURCH MINISTRIES was birthed out of my pain. GOD created a ministry for people who had been hurt by people in the church. GOD’S CHURCH MINISTRIES was birthed to help those that no one wanted to see that GOD wanted them. For the church to be portrayed as a place where you can come to be HEALED, it can also be a place of much pain. The Pentecostal Church is a very JUDGEMENTAL place if we are going to be truthful in this season. The only way the church can begin to heal the people is if it BEGINS TO HEAL ITSELF FIRST. Before we talk about what is wrong in other RELIGIONS, we need to take a hard look inside of ourselves first. Am I saying the entire church is broken, no but there is a reason we have mastered CHURCH TRANSFERS.

G&G: Looking back at where you were when you started this journey, where did you think, it was going to lead you? Are you at all surprised at where you are today?

Bishop Berry: THE truth is I really did not have a thought of where I would be today. However, I did this so that more people would be connected to GCM. There have been many days where I thought I had failed my assignment and the answer I could produce was to close the church. Then there would be an influx of new people or the return of old ones. Either way it made me have FAITH that GOD was not done with us just yet. So, I guess yes I am a little surprised that we are still here. I cannot lie to anyone. There are only about thirtyfive of us at the ministry, but we are FAITHFUL TO GOD and OUR WORK.

G&G: Bishop Berry, what was the turning point in your journey when you realized God had called you to an assignment of this magnitude?

Bishop Berry: THE turning point was I was sitting in church one Sunday morning and it was like there was a glass wall between me and my PASTOR. Not a glass wall but more of a sound booth. I could hear his voice in the background, but I began to hear this other voice. I knew the voice, but I did not understand what he was saying. I had a meeting with my BISHOP and we both agreed that GOD was calling me to my NEXT. I really did not know what the next was, but it was different. I worked on this proposal and typed it up and presented it to my leader. It was made of how the leadership would begin to interact with him. I mean I put my heart, sweat, and tears in it. Some years have gone past and I finally asked my BISHOP what he did with my proposal. He replied, “I tossed it into the trash. GOD is not going to speak to you about the MINISTRY that he is overseeing.” So now I do understand what I was hearing was not for my home church it was for GCM.

G&G: Bishop Berry, along with great assignments come great responsibilities, were there any hurdles during this journey? What would you say has brought you the greatest joy in building God’s Church Ministries?

Bishop Berry: I cannot begin to share with you the hurdles that I had to jump over and through to get to this point. Some of the greatest hurdles have been pouring into people that you think are yours until you realize they are HIS. But that also has become my greatest joy as they “go ye therefore into the world”. You see G&G and reader, we were not made for these buildings, but we were made to build. I honestly believe that GOD sent this PLANDEMIC. Nothing ever happens in the KINGDOM without permission from GOD OUR FATHER. Wait BISHOP are you saying that GOD wanted all these people to die. No, I am not. But I do believe that GOD does allow situations to occur so that He can get our attention.

G&G: Bishop Berry, you have pastored God’s Church Ministries with great passion. I have heard it said that great passion does not come without great pain. Is this a true statement for your journey?

Bishop Berry: This is absolutely a true statement. There is no joy without the pain. You cannot enjoy the good days but cannot manage the hard days. I served for 15 years, no 26 years as my BISHOP’S ADJUTANT. I remember my PASTOR sharing with me in one of our conversations on the road, "DAMION there will be days when everything is going right, but then there will be days when things seem like all is falling apart around you. That is the moment you cannot just teach and preach the word. You must believe the word for yourself. You cannot tell the people to have faith that it will not always be like this but behind closed doors your faith waivers." You have to remind yourself that your pain is going to push you to your greatest PRAISE. Our

pain is part of our growth in GOD. That is why GOD says to us in (2 CORINTHIANS 12:10), “When we are weak GOD is strong.”

G&G: Bishop Berry, like many pastors I’m sure your ministry was affected by the pandemic. So much changed in the dynamics of how we had to do ministry, what was the greatest lesson you learned doing the work of the Lord during the pandemic?

Bishop Berry: Yes, we were affected by the pandemic like most ministries. The truth of it is if you are not a forwardthinking LEADER then you and the ministry will always be in a difficult position. If not for the pandemic then another storm of some sort could have popped up out of nowhere and put the ministry in a predicament and pushed you out of your comfort zone. I am so happy that I had a leader who had to endure storms early on as a PASTOR and because I was afforded the opportunity to walk alongside HIM, it helped to prepare me for any storm that would come my way. Now it is very true that we will deal with our own storms but the answer for each storm is the same.

“LEAN NOT UNTO THINE OWN UNDERSTANDING, BUT IN ALL OF YOUR WAYS ACKNOWLEDGE HIM AND HE WILL DIRECT YOUR PATH.” This is one of my go to scriptures that I turn to when I see a storm out on the ocean.

G&G: Bishop Berry, what would you say it takes to be a successful pastor today? There are some pastors who have chosen to leave ministry, have you experienced instances where you wanted to quit and walk away from ministry?

Bishop Berry: I don’t think you are being honest with yourself if you have not considered walking away from ministry in the season, we find ourselves. Church today is a lot different from our grandparents’ church. No matter where they found themselves, they knew how to trust and lean on GOD. For some reason they had less but had

10 February 2023
Q&A

more. They did more with less. They did not have fast food but could make a home cooked meal last for days at a time. They knew how to disagree as adults and keep children out of adult’s business. We on the other hand have more money but have less. Sunday dinner is now spent at GOLDEN CORAL. Instead of spending time with our children we now allow our TV’S and TV SHOWS to raise our children. So, I say all of that to say this, what they considered success we now consider failure and what we consider success they would consider failure. They said numbers determined your success but for us you could have less numbers and be more effective in ministry.

G&G: Bishop Berry, how do you plan to build upon your accomplishments as pastor, as you continue to lead the God’s Church Ministries? What are your hopes and plans for the future of the church?

Bishop Berry: Early last year in my prayer time I heard GOD speak to me about why there was a hindrance in the ministry. I began to pray every morning asking GOD for guidance, on what I was hearing from HIM. HE told me to remove all titles and ministries as we knew it in that season. GOD began to speak to me about FAITHFUL, FOCUSED, AND FORGING. We had been setting the family up to fail by teaching them all different things but expecting them to grow together. GOD said it was time for the church to return to (EPHESIANS 4:11-13) kind of ministry. It was time to teach the church about their gifts and not about their titles. (FOR WE ARE NOT JUST A CHURCH, WE ARE A MINISTRY) that is the slogan we have lived by for the past 5 years and that will be the saying we will grow with for the next 50 years with the help of GOD on our side. There is a PASTORAL TEAM in place, so I don’t have to try to do it all on my own. This team is made up of PASTORS in training who will eventually go out to be planted in GOD’S CHURCH EAST, GOD’S CHURCH SOUTHWEST, AND GOD’S

CHURCH PASADENA, just to begin. GOD wants to spread HIS word over this city, then move to this state and then this country that WE ARE NOT JUST A CHURCH. If you are looking for a place to be loved for who you are, then this is the HOME for you.

♦ ♦ ♦

G&G: Bishop Berry, my last few questions are a little more personal, first what three words would you use to describe yourself?

Bishop Berry: FAITHFUL—To God. TRUSTING— People too much. LOVING—Too hard too fast.

G&G: Would you share with us something most people would be surprised to know about you?

Bishop Berry: I am shy.

G&G: Bishop Berry, many pastors have shared with me that ‘Preaching the Gospel’ was not what they had initially planned for their lives. Was this the same for you, did you also have other plans for your life?

Bishop Berry: Yes, I did. I wanted to become a sports manager for the NBA (The Los Angeles Lakers).

G&G: Bishop Berry, is there anyone who has had a tremendous impact in your life?

Bishop Berry: My Godfather had the greatest impact on my life. In all of my life I don’t think I ever remember him getting sick. He worked to take care of his family no matter the cost.

G&G: Bishop Berry, lastly, if you could go back to the beginning, is there anything you would do differently?

Bishop Berry: The one thing I would do different is run for the hills. . .LOL!

Yes, Jesus Loves Me

There are times in your life when you just don’t understand why you are going through what you are going through. There are times you feel isolated, alone, and heavy in heart. There are times when people can do all that they can to encourage you, but there are just some battles you must go through. There are times when you ask yourself, why? There are times when you just want an answer to the weight of the pain. There are times when it feels like the cycle of disappointment never breaks. Have you ever been there? Have you ever thought to yourself, I am tired of being tired?

I know what it feels like to be in that place. I know what it feels like to be in a place where instead of settlement you feel that you are now in a place of survival. I know what it feels like to fight against shame, anger, and disappointment. I know what it feels like to be misunderstood. I know what it feels like to have people talk about you at their dinner table trying to figure out why you are going through what you are going through, once again. I want you to be encouraged. I promise you that God is with you. He is faithful to us. He will send a message, a song, a devotional, and resources to help pull you up.

Even as I write to encourage you, I am also encouraging myself. As I go through my own storm, I was so encouraged by a message that Bishop Debnam preached at Morning Star Baptist Church, in Baltimore, MD, a few Sundays ago. I remember it like it was yesterday. I had just finished watching my church service online and I proceeded to get dressed and go to the gym. As I was lacing up my shoes with anticipation to hit the treadmill, my dad, Jerry Pittman, called me and said, “I need you to listen to the sermon Bishop Debnam preached today. I was thinking about you and what you are going through, and it felt that he had a personal conversation with you; that he knew exactly what you were dealing with, and I believe his message was purposed for you.” He continued to say, “I am speechless, but you must listen to this message.” I immediately stopped in my tracks, un-laced my shoes and proceeded to watch the 11:30am service.

From the start of the service, I felt lighter in my spirit. The praise and worship was great! The anticipation grew as it was time to hear the word. The scripture was 2 Corinthians 11:24-29, and the title of his message was, “You Just Don’t Know.” He talked about how people just don’t know your story. How people just don’t know your dents, discouragements, and success that has gotten you where you are today. How people just don’t know what it takes for you to be you. People just don’t know the weight, pain, grief, and circumstances that has taken place in your life.

People just don’t know the spiritual warfare, generational curses, and other circumstances that you must deal with daily. He talked about the pain of being misunderstood. He said so many powerful things in his message, but two specifically were, “Don’t allow people to put a ceiling on your future.” He also went on to say that your scars have taught you who God is.” WOW, I promise you I cried the entire sermon.

The church of Corinth was coming after Paul as if he was not good enough or qualified in his purpose in God. Paul had to tell his testimony! He did that in 2 Corinthians 11:24-29. Check out Paul’s testimony.

24 Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one. 25 Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was pelted with stones, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea, 26 I have been constantly on the move. I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my fellow Jews, in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false believers. 27 I have labored and toiled and have often gone without sleep; I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food; I have been cold and naked. 28 Besides everything else, I face daily the pressure of my concern for all the churches. 29 Who is weak, and I do not feel weak? Who is led into sin, and I do not inwardly burn?

Even in all of that, Paul made it out! He stood flat footed in the confidence of Christ and never wavered that he had been chosen for such a time as this. I don’t know your story, but I know you have one. I don’t know your pain, but I know its not easy. I don’t know your affliction, but I know that God loves you! I don’t know your situation, but I know the Lord will provide a way of escape. He will rescue you. That day, I physically could not make it to the alter call that Bishop Debnam announced. However, I made an alter right in my home and I released my burdens and casted all my cares on the Lord. Bishop Debnam’s sermon points were, you don’t quit, your problems are preparing you for promotion, and you made it out.

Just as the governor was attempting to arrest Paul, he was lowered in a basket from a window in the wall and slipped through the governor’s hands (2 Corinthians 11:32-33).

32 In Damascus the governor under King Aretas had the city of the Damascenes guarded in order to arrest me. 33 But I was lowered in a basket from a window in the wall and slipped through his hands.

Trust me! God has us. We may not know when He will do it, how He will do it and who He will use in the process, but we will get through this! Remember, you are not alone! The Lord loves us too much to leave us, and His love never fails. I believe with everything within me 2023 is our year of defining moments! We will testify in Jesus Name!

Thank you, Bishop Dwayne C. Debnam! Your message was heaven sent!

What’s Love?

There is a growing deficit in our community, country and the world. It is not a budget shortfall or a sports team needing to fill positions or the lack of teachers, medical staff and support staff in certain areas. The deficit I am sharing is the lack of love in many areas of our lives. People have not stopped loving one another but they have ceased showing love through their actions and attitudes. So many are angry, upset and unhappy with themselves and are taking it out on those around them. This is a lot for those around them can sometimes handle. The love deficit is not only among the young, the troubled or those struggling with loneliness. There is a decline of loving behavior among Christians.

This decline is not new or surprising. Jesus addressed this problem with his disciples at that time and with us today. It seems the love problem is not new and will be with us if people are determined to do things their way and live a life that does not consider the needs of others.

Jesus shares with us his view on

how we should treat one another. “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35 NIV. Jesus has given us a life lesson that will not only change our view of love, but it will help those we serve, work with and are in relationship with to know what love is. Love is an action word that can be demonstrated daily especially in how we treat others.

Love is the foundation of our faith and gives people hope in distressing times like the ones we live in. The songwriter says, “What the world needs now is love sweet love. It's the only thing that there's just too little of What the world needs now is love, sweet love No not just for some, but for everyone.” (Burt F. Bacharach / Hal David)

This is a timeless message that could change our minds,

our thoughts, our actions and our lives. Scripture further encourages us to live in love by our deeds. “Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Romans 13:8-9 NIV.

What is love? It is the unconditional affection and attention we give to ourselves and others. It is done with generosity and grace. Love is helpful, kind, promotes unity and reconciliation. Love shows up when we forgive others. Love shows up when we support those in their time of need whether they supported us or not. Love is hard sometimes but it is necessary and most of all, we all need love! Share love today because people need love now more than ever.

Live to L.O.V.E.

Love is in the air! This is the season of sweet sentiments, kind gestures, mushy moments, and double the display of adoration and affection. During this season of love, make it a point to live to love like never before. If you know God, then you know how to live to love because God is love (1 John 4:8). As a Christian, you live, move, and have your being in God (Acts 17:28) and since God is the epitome of love, living to love is a light thing. The L.O.V.E. acronym can remind you to live to love. It is a model for you to ensure that you are a Light, Obedient, Victorious, and Expecting. You were not built to be basic, but you were born and blessed to be the righteous of God in the Earth. You live to L.O.V.E. by letting your light shine, obeying and believing God to do great and mighty things in your life, living out your vision to experience a victorious life, and expecting God to exceed your expectation.

Live to love and let your light shine (Matthew 5:16). You are God’s representative and ambassador. Living out your purpose and executing the plan for your life allows your light to shine and gives glory to God. Let the love of God lead you as you illuminate every place you encounter and have a positive impact on everyone you associate with. God desires for you to shine bright like the diamond you are.

Live to love by being obedient to God’s Word and you will be blessed. God honors obedience. Obedience can open doors to opportunities you could never have imagined. Your eyes have not seen, nor

your ears have heard, neither has it entered into the heart of man, the things God has prepared for you because you love Him (I Corinthians 2:9).

Live to love and your vision and purpose will lead to victory. Operating in love makes it easy to live out the purpose God has for your life. Love flows easily when you are on the path God set for your life. Knowing your purpose, utilizing the gifts God gave you, and pursuing the plan He has for your life will cause your blessings to manifest and become tangible right before your eyes. Live to love because love unleashes a lavish life in the Lord.

Live to love and expect expansion. God equipped you with all of the gifts and talents that you need to go forward and do great exploits in His name. You have the dunamis power inside of you that gives you the strength to do all things. God is able to do exceedingly and abundantly above what you can ask or think according to the power that works in you (Ephesians 3:20). Live to love and the lion’s share is yours.

Jesus promises to be with you always, so you never have to worry that you lack love (Matthew 28:20). For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16). Living to love can last long after your lifetime. You can have faith, hope, and love but know that love is the greatest of them all (1 Corinthians 13:13). Live to L.O.V.E.!

BOWERS Season

24 February 2023

It’s exciting to find out that your favorite book is going to be made into a movie. Finally, now everyone will know why you love it so much. But then the dread sets in. What if they don't do it justice? What if they use an actor who’s nothing like the way you imagine the lead character? There are many reasons for casting choices, but no one thinks to ask you!

When it comes to the historical portrayal of Jesus something is glaringly missing. He is rarely depicted as joyful, even though scripture records Jesus as the most joyful person to have ever lived. “You love justice and hate evil. Therefore God, your God, has anointed you, pouring out the oil of joy on you more than on anyone else.” (Ps. 45:7; Heb. 1:9 NLT). From the moment he was born he brought joy to the world (Luke 2:10) and it didn’t stop there.

Depending on your ethnic heritage, your celebration skills may range. Traditionally, the cultural celebrations from around the globe vary, but many are elaborate, extreme even. In Jesus’ day it was no exception, and his people knew how to throw a party.

It’s an odd thing, one would think that the first public miracle Jesus would perform would be a dramatic healing or another parting of the waters - ya know, something of biblical proportions. But just like his birth brought joy to the world, Jesus’ first miracle brought joy to the party. It went something like thisIt wasn’t over. They still had days left. But to the horror of the hosts, the wine was about to run out. It was understood that when the wine ran out the party was over, and in this case, shame would be heaped on the host family. Pulling her son aside Mary whispers, “Jesus, they have no more wine...” Did she know? Had he done it before? What was the wine supply like in their home? He replied, “It’s not really our business, mom. And it’s not my time yet.” Mary, a faith-filled woman and mom, grabs the nearest servant, “Just do what he tells you to do.” She knew her son—she believed in him. After a few simple instructions to the help, what could have been a disaster became a new infusion of joy. The wine was not only flowing and in no danger of running out, but it was also the best they’d ever tasted! You can just about feel the pride and love in Mary’s heart and hear the thoughts in her head, “That’s my son.”

Contrary to history’s portrayal, Jesus was full of life and joy. The fact that he chose to display his power and authority to enhance a party shows that he was, and is, serious about joy. Biblically, wine is a symbol of joy and happiness. To us, it seems almost insignificant that he turned water into wine. We are more intrigued with his work healing the sick and raising the dead. But this act of love and kindness isn’t any different! Why do we tend to put a hierarchy on some miracles and not others? The breakthrough of joy and peace is just as life-giving and powerful as restoring health to a sick person or the provision of something when there was nothing. We have come into agreement with the lie that the forgiveness of murder and corruption is bigger than the forgiveness of gossip and laziness. The concept is the same.

The power of love is the same across the board and we can’t live without it. We are desperate for a touch from God. The restoration of our joy is just as important to the Lord as anything else. We place the restriction and hierarchy on the Lord and it’s time we recognize and receive all that He has for us. The truth is Jesus did do a miracle of biblical proportions on that day. He revealed his plan to bring joy and peace to the world forever.

Jesus walked in two realities. He simultaneously lived on this earth but existed in the Kingdom of God. In fact, he came to bring that Kingdom to earth. Again and again, he would say, “It’s here!” The Kingdom of heaven is here now because Jesus is with us here and now. That’s why Jesus would tell stories about what the kingdom of God is like, so we could begin to understand and live its freedom and power. He wanted his disciples (and us) to boldly live as children of God—understanding what that means for us. Jesus, the son of God, lived with confidence in his Father. He walked with authority because he knew who his Father was. Jesus declared that everything he said or did was out of a passionate and powerful relationship with his Father. They were one. And because of Jesus, we can be one too!

But why was Jesus a man of such great joy? Because of the intimacy he had with his Father. He knew total satisfaction and the fulfilment of perfect love. He never sinned because he never lacked anything. He had access to everything he needed because of his complete faith in his Father to provide it for him. Jesus never worried about lack—he didn’t experience it! What looked to others like lack was only an opportunity for provision and abundance. The Son of God knew such pure love and fullness of joy that there was never a need to strive or seek. He was the perfect example of what it looked like to live a life connected and reliant on the Father.

Psalm 16:11 says, “You will make known to me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.” (NKJV). Jesus said of himself, “I am the way, the truth and the life.” (John 14:6). He led the way. He lived his life as a perfect example. He knew the fullness of joy because he was in perfect unity with the Father. You want to know what is found in the presence of God? It says so right there, the fullness of joy and great pleasures! I want that, don’t you? Jesus is a Joy Bringer and wants you to receive it and bring that joy everywhere you go.

“Love a word that comes and goes, But few people really know, What it means to really love somebody, Love, though the tears may fade away, I'm so glad your love will stay, ‘Cause I love you, And you show me, Jesus, What it really means to love.”

These lyrics are a few stanzas of a song written by Kirk Franklin entitled ‘Love’, a word that is thrown around too easily. Some people use it to gain leverage from others. While others may use it in place of like. I learned a long time ago that the word Love is a strong verb that shouldn’t be so easily and openly used.

I remember the first time the word Love was used to gain leverage. It was used like an exchange or bartering of goods. Because the certain individual stated that he loved me and began to profess how deep the love he had for me. I dropped my guard and trusted him, and misguided trust was used for leverage that benefited him

and left me alone, crying, sad and heart broken. He said all the right things which caused me to trust him more. From that moment on it was hard to trust people when they used the word Love to express affection. I first had to heal and understand the word even more. I took a moment to realize what God says about love and the action that He showed to prove His Love. John 3:16 (NKJV) says, ”For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” In this scripture love was shown as an action. The action was God giving. He gave His son, so that we could have eternal life.

The more I allowed Him to show me His love the more I began to trust and allow others to enter that private space of Love. I also learned from my oldest bonus daughter that Love is a verb that’s an action word and when she loves you, she proves it by showing you. I’m so glad that God loved me enough to give. Who did He give? His son to us so we can live again. We, as a whole should practice showing God’s love not just during the month of February but show it throughout the entire year.

Sometimes people have a hard time loving others because they lack loving themselves. Loving yourself first is the key to loving others. How do you love yourself? By seeing yourself through the lenses of God. Seeing the flaws and imperfections and loving yourself in spite of them. Knowing your worth and value also helps you to love others, and that allows you to let others love you. When you don’t know the value of something you mishandle it. If you saw a 5-karat diamond ring you wouldn’t give it to your baby to play with. Not unless you didn’t know the worth of the object. Knowing the worth of something causes you to cherish it more and you aren’t as easy on others handling it. Know your worth and value so that you won’t allow others to mistreat you. Allow love to build you up. Love never fails.

Wear Red Get Heart Healthy

February is Woman’s Heart Month. This month is set aside to bring awareness of the risk factors and complications of heart disease in women. National Wear Red Day, on the first Friday in February, and Red Dress Sunday are annual campaigns to raise awareness about heart disease in women. Many individuals across the country don the color red to increase and spread awareness in hopes of helping eradicate heart disease and stroke in millions of women all over the nation. The American Heart Association sponsors this significant healthcare initiative.

The national campaign urges women to learn about their risk for heart disease and take steps to reduce their risk and improve their health. Heart disease is often slowly diagnosed and treated in women. Cardiovascular disease causes 1 in 3 deaths yearly, making it the number one healthrelated killer in women. Research shows 87% of all heart issues, including hypertension and stroke, can be prevented. Risk factors for heart disease include smoking, vaping, diabetes, a sedentary lifestyle, stress, and chronic inflammation. Decreasing estrogen levels in menopause increase fat in the blood, causing clogged blood vessels.

Get involved and show support by wearing red on February 3rd-National Wear Red Day. Encourage your family and friends to join you by wearing a favorite red outfit. Join multiple church

congregations around the nation by wearing red on February 12th -Red Dress Sunday.

Strengthen your impact by donating to the American Heart Association. Care for your heart by exercising regularly and eating a heart-healthy diet. Decrease your intake of carbohydrates and fats. Increase your dietary intake of fresh vegetables and fruit. Work to include 15 minutes of moderate exercise in your daily routine. See your healthcare provider for regular checkups. Monitor your blood pressure, and work to keep your weight within normal limits. Educate yourself on heart disease risk factors. Contact the local chapter of the American Heart Association for classes in nutrition, exercise programs, and other resources related to a heart-healthy lifestyle.

If you have heart disease, take care of yourself. Keep your appointments with your doctor. Take the medications as prescribed.

Wear your favorite red outfit on Friday, January 3rd or Red Dress Sunday. Reach out to other women and spread the word about heart disease. Get involved in community efforts to fight heart disease in women.

Gospel & Entertainment

Todd Dulaney & Hezekiah Walker

This collaboration is so good to me! These two Kingdom Powerhouses! Whoo Wee! I absolutely love this single! It’s so true what both artists bring to the industry! Songs so catchy you’ll always find yourself singing the chorus, the drive, something; it’s so relevant, the lyrics, “It will always work out for me “ you’ll be singing it, I promise! It’s out now! Go grab it!

Kevin Lemons

One of the greatest choir masters of this time has gone on to be with the Lord, and so suddenly. Kevin Lemons transitioned on Jan 7, at the age of 44. This loss has definitely rocked the industry at large, so much so Gospel Music generals Kirk Franklin & Donald Lawrence have pledged to keep his legacy alive. Kevin Lemons was signed to Bishop Hezekiah Walkers record label Hez House Entertainment. “His love for God seasoned everything that he did, and his palpable love for people was an extension of that. Kevin Lemons was just a beautiful human being, and he will be sorely missed,” said Bishop Hezekiah Walker. He brought us jaw dropping vocals and choir dynamics, second to none. People are still talking about his performance last Easter at Choir Fest here in Baltimore. Whenever you got an opportunity to hear Kevin Lemons & Higher Calling minister you were blessed, he was absolutely a steeple in the industry keeping “choir music” alive. Being in this industry for over 2 decades he left us experiences we shall never forget. His wife, Tiunna Lemons, his impactful 100 voice choir, family and friends, let’s keep them in our prayers. He was always so kind and gave that brotherly love to all, always consistent. Salute to this Kingdom Giant!
