GRACE STORIES

HEALING HANDS, LOVING HEARTS

Three stories from Johnny Benge, Grace Health Community Health Worker, highlighting our team’s dedication to improving lives, one step at a time.

NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO CHOOSE BETWEEN FOOD AND MEDICINE

Referred by the pharmacy, a patient faced an impossible decision: pay for her medication or buy food. Unable to afford her copays, she was skipping essentials to get by.

Johnny quickly researched her income and enrolled her in the Sliding Fee Discount (SFD) Program. He connected her with SNAP benefits, local food pantries, and patient assistance programs from drug manufacturers, securing her two most expensive medications free for an entire year.

With access to proper nutrition and medication, her health began to improve. Johnny also worked closely with her daughter to ensure medication compliance, provided education on managing Alzheimer’s and diabetes, and introduced helpful nutrition strategies. These combined efforts stabilized her health and gave her and her family hope for a brighter future

This story underscores the vital role of community health workers in transforming lives and addressing the stark realities many patients face

A CLEARER FUTURE

After discovering that a scammer had enrolled a patient in a fraudulent insurance policy by taking advantage of the patient’s hearing issues, Johnny connected the patient with local resources to obtain hearing aids. Johnny also helped the patient enroll in Grace Health’s Sliding Fee Discount (SFD) Program to lower medication costs. With restored hearing and proper support, the patient communicates effectively and engages positively in his healthcare journey

HOPE FOR A FAMILY IN CRISIS

Johnny assisted a family facing mounting challenges after their child was diagnosed with cancer. The family, overwhelmed by medical travel and expenses, received help through the Whitley County Cancer Coalition and other resources. A new ramp and easier home access improved their child’s comfort after treatments. With financial and emotional support from the Grace Health team, their quality of life was restored during a difficult time
