Fellowships PRESIDENTIAL MANAGMENT FELLOWSHIP Washington D.C., USA The PMF Program is a flagship leadership development program at the entry level for advanced degree candidates. It was created more than three decades ago by Executive Order and has gone through many changes over the years. The Program attracts and selects the best candidates possible, but is really designed with a more narrow focus - developing a cadre of potential government leaders. It provides some sustenance during the first years of employment and encourages development of leadership capabilities. The PMF Program inculcates a lasting bond as well as a spirit of public service, ultimately encouraging and leading to a career in the government. What Will You Get? *160 hours of interactive training (on leadership, management, policy and other topics) * Challenging work assignments *Feedback on your work *At least one 4 to 6 month developmental assignment *Potential for promotions and career ladders *Upon certification of completion, which permits immediate conversion to a permanent or term position and carries prestige anywhere you go thereafter The application will be accessible via an announcement on USAJOBS (www.USAJOBS.gov) once it opens. For more information visit http://www.pmf.gov/become-a-pmf/2016-application.aspx DISSERTATION PROPOSAL DEVELOPMENT FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM The Dissertation Proposal Development Fellowship Program is an interdisciplinary training program that helps early-stage doctoral students in the humanities and social sciences formulate doctoral research proposals. The program seeks students with an interest in learning how their proposals can be strengthened through exposure to the theories, literatures, methods, and intellectual traditions of disciplines outside their own. To that end, the program offers workshops, exploratory summer research, and writing opportunities guided by faculty mentorship and peer review. Eligibility The Dissertation Proposal Development Fellowship is open to pre-ABD doctoral students who are enrolled in PhD programs at accredited universities within the United States. Fellowship Opportunities BROWN UNIVERSITY Watson Institute Postdoctoral Fellows Program Providence, RI The newly-established Watson Post-Doctoral Fellows program invites applications from exceptional early career scholars whose work contributes to one or more of the Institutes’ three core research areas: security, development, and governance. Successful candidates will join an interdisciplinary community of scholars in the social sciences engaged in theoretically and substantively important research that seeks to understand and address pressing global issues. Deadline: October 15, 2015 For more information visit http://apply.interfolio.com/30448 NATIONAL NUCLEAR SECURITY ADMINISTRATION GRADUATE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Graduate Fellowship Program (NGFP) is a full-time, salaried fellowship program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy for highly motivated graduate-level students interested in a career in nuclear security. The fellowship program offers scholars a year for research and writing free from teaching and administrative duties, a collaborative work environment, and the opportunity to interact with Academy members. It also creates a national network for these scholars, assisting them in their research and professional development. The Academy seeks proposals in the humanities and social sciences relating to American history, culture, and public policy from the founding period to the present. Applicants should have outstanding records of published research and scholarship. In addition to academic distinction, preference will be given to scholars whose interests strengthen the research priorities of ARC in the following areas: Inequality, Immigration, or Multilingualism. Fellowship Opportunities THE NUCLEAR SCHOLARS INITIATIVE The Nuclear Scholars Initiative aims to provide top graduate students and young professionals from around the country with a unique venue to interact and dialogue with senior experts on nuclear weapons issues. The program brings together a select group of roughly 20 individuals with a demonstrated interest and/or experience in nuclear issues to attend monthly workshops hosted by CSIS. During these sessions, experts from across the nuclear enterprise share their insights and engage the class of Scholars on a variety of nuclear issues. Over the course of this six-month program, each Scholar prepares a research paper that they will present to a panel of experts and later publish in a journal produced by CSIS. The program brings exceptional international early-career faculty members working in the social sciences and the humanities to Princeton for a year of research, writing, and collaboration. Fellowship Opportunities PRINCETON UNIVERSITY University Center for Human Values Laurance S. Rockefeller Visiting Fellowships Fellows devote an academic year in residence at Princeton to research and writing about topics involving human values in public and private life. The program is open to scholars in all disciplines provided their research plans qualify. In recent years fellows have been drawn from fields including philosophy, political theory, literature, history, classics, economics and law, but this list is not meant to be exhaustive. Fellows are expected to reside in or around Princeton and to be active contributors to the intellectual life of the Center. Projects may, for example, compare aspects of Chinese history and culture with those of other nations and civilizations, explore the interaction of these nations and civilizations, or engage in cross-cultural research on the relations among the diverse and shifting populations of China. Proposals are expected to be empirically grounded, theoretically informed, and methodologically explicit. Deadline: 11/4/15 For more information visit http://www.acls.org/programs/chinese-culture/ AMERICAN COUNCIL OF LEARNED SOCIETIES Henry Luce Foundation/ACLS Program in China Studies The Henry Luce Foundation/ACLS Program in China Studies seeks to maintain the vitality of China Studies in North America through fellowships and grants designed primarily for scholars early in their careers. Studies on and in China have developed over the last 30 years in the United States and Canada into a robust field, but current conditions pose daunting problems, especially for scholars just before and just after the dissertation. · Postdoctoral Fellowships For scholars who are preparing or augmenting their PhD dissertation research for publication, or who are embarking on new research projects. Postdoctoral fellowships support work based on the applicant’s research in China that aims to produce a scholarly text in English. A working knowledge of Chinese is required. · Collaborative Reading-Workshop Grants For scholars of different disciplines to investigate texts that constitute essential points of entry to Chinese periods, traditions, communities, or events in contemporary or historical times. These grants provide support for collaborative reading of texts in a workshop format that is interdisciplinary and crosses scholarly generations. A wealth of often complex and challenging texts is a distinctive feature of the Chinese cultural record, making close reading by a group of scholars especially fruitful, because they can bring to bear diversity of research, experience, and expertise. Internship Opportunities THE CARTER CENTER ATLANTA, GA For more than 25 years, the Carter Center Internship Program has provided more than 2,600 interns with a rewarding complement to classroom experience. Carter Center interns come from around the world and make vital contributions to the Center’s work. In turn, the Center provides a substantive learning experience that serves as a basis for interns to explore their career options and to attain professional skills. The goal of the Internship Program is to develop an informed and skilled work force committed to advancing peace and health worldwide. Program Highlights *Substantive work experience: Less than 30 percent of an intern’s responsibilities include administrative duties. *Work directly in your field of study, gaining valuable knowledge that can enhance your professional development. *Make professional connections and form networks within an international non-governmental organization. *Speaker series, featuring Carter Center staff and other invited guests. *Scheduled career development opportunities with senior Carter Center staff. *Exclusive intern-only question-and-answer session and photo opportunity with President and Mrs. Carter. *A weekend excursion to the Carter’s hometown of Plains, Ga., where we have lunch with the Carters and visit historic sites devoted to their life and work. *Social and team-building opportunities with interns and staff. *Membership in the intern alumni group, which keeps you connected with the Carter Center’s work as well as with hundreds of former interns. All internships are based in Atlanta. However, opportunities arise for interns to travel with staff on Center-related trips (e.g. election-monitoring missions, domestic and international conferences, training workshops). October 9, 2015 For students residing on or near campus, doctoral dissertations and master’s theses are due in the Associate Dean’s Office for review by the style editors. November 30, 2015 for final approval.
