Europe and the European Union, are facing the largest and most serious migration-flow since the flows of migrants Western Europe faced in the late 1940s after the end of WWII and also as a result of the “Iron Curtain” which came to divide Europe politically until the early 1990s. This time the origin of the crisis is non-European and the preferred destination of the migrants is the EU, and in particular some of the Union´s Member States. The Union is struggling politically, legally and socially as are its individual Member States to respond. Some of the legal fundaments as well as political achievements and values of the Union and Europe are being questioned, some say threatened, and the alleged limits of the EU social fabric are being used by conservative and anti-immigration forces in order to gain political strength. These and other EU issues related to the migration crisis, such as the Union’s collective strengths and weaknesses, moreal and cohesion will be discussed. Thursday, September 24 BAL 9024 7:00 pm Hosted by the Graduate Program International Studies with cooperation from World Affairs Council Hampton Roads
