A new-look Gourmet Gallery signals a new era for the food and wine publishing industry at the Frankfurt Book Fair.

On Wednesday the Gourmet Gallery opened, signaling a new era for the food and wine publishing industry at the Fair. Edouard Cointreau, Vice President of the World Cookbook Fair and son of Edouard Cointreau, the founder of the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards, recently signed a long-term agreement to bring publishers and authors in the culinary sector to Frankfurt each year.

The result is the Gourmet Gallery: two red-carpeted aisles in the vaulted Hall 3.1, featuring the stands of 84 exhibitors from 30 countries, a business center, a show kitchen, and an area for events and conferences.

“It’s good to have everyone together,” said Cointreau fils, who had previously organized the Paris Cookbook Fair with his father. Now, all their energy will be focused on the Book Fair, and the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards, which will remain in China where Cointreau père is based.

In the spirit of togetherness, Just World Books’ The Gaza Kitchen, by Laila El-Haddad and Maggie Schmitt, has a stand next to the Tel Aviv–based Lunch Box publishers.

Renowned cookbook author Claudia Roden will be holding a conversation with ElHaddad and Schmitt today at noon in the Gourmet Salon.

Barbara Roelle, who works for the Fair and organized the Gourmet Gallery with Cointreau, said she hoped it would show all aspects of the culinary world, including the sociological and political:

“Three years ago, veganism was a big trend here. Now, perhaps, it’s about how food brings people together.”

Gourmet Travelling Cointreau and Roelle also made a link between cooking and tourism, including tourist offices or regional products. “Now, food is a criteria for travel,” Cointreau commented.

A recent development is the presence of Latin American publishers. Cointreau pointed out that, a few years ago, there were only a few at the Fair, while this year there are publishers from each country.

One such publisher is the Gourmet Patagonia Foundation which, while a cookbook publisher, is also a sort of citizen’s movement.

“Our goal for 2020 is to make Chile a worldwide gastronomic destination,” said Francisco Fantini, part of the foundation and the director and author of the Poet’s Cuisine of Chile. For his book, he collaborated with Chilean wine growers, educators and people involved in ethical tourism.

Wide Variety Barcelona-based Gastronomía activa brings together chefs, enologists, sommeliers and food and nutrition experts who act as food consultants, providing gourmet experiences.

The organization was able to come to Frankfurt thanks to sponsorship from Entra de Ballet olive oil from the Castellón province of Spain, which is exhibiting its products on the stand.

The newly conceived 1000 Cookbooks is a site that aims to be the Spotify of cookbooks. Founders Matthew Cockerill and Jon Croft are working on providing a curated and comprehensive collection of top food and recipe content for subscribers.

The French 180°C is a handsome independent culinary magazine and publisher that focuses on man’s organic relationship to food. Their latest book, Man&Food, explores the relationship between environments and the traditional ancestral diets of seven selfsufficient

Visitors to the Frankfurt Book Fair are greeted by images of aromatic spices, mouthwatering desserts and beaming chefs as cookbooks, once a niche segment, take the publishing world by storm.

"Twenty years ago, cookbooks were hidden, cookbooks were not respected," said Edouard Cointreau, president of the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards. "You had to be specialist and if you were specialised, you never went very far in a big publishing house."

But nowadays "people need comfort in a world that has become more and more difficult with crises. And cookbooks are one of the ways to be happy. Cookbooks are to dream, to feel good, to travel," Cointreau said.

In the sprawling exhibition halls hosting the world's biggest book fair until Sunday, the Gourmet Gallery is dedicated exclusively to cooking, with recipe books on display from all over the world.

A stand from Gaza sits alongside one from Israel, there are books ranging from Russian specialities and Indonesian dishes to the secrets of celebrated French cuisine maestro Alain Ducasse.

Cookbooks are a runaway success in almost every corner of the world, including Iran.

"Five years ago, our market was not like that, but now, cookbooks are more popular in Iran," said chef Samira Janatdoust, presenting her own books despite Tehran's boycott of the fair sparked by an appearance from British-Indian writer Salman Rushdie, author of "The Satanic Verses".

In such a crowded global market, it is often difficult to stand out.

Sofia Piqueras, an artist from Barcelona, offers eye-catching one-off editions with handmade covers decorated with aromatic herbs and spices.

"There are definitely trends emerging all over the world," said Pixie Shields, international rights director at Marabout (Hachette Livre), one of the big players in the sector. Particularly en vogue at the moment are books on healthy eating, on vegetarian and vegan cooking and recipes for kale dishes or green smoothies.

People tend to go for brightly presented books, full of photos, which they can show off in their kitchen and leaf through occasionally, said Shields.

For most people, cookbooks are like glossy fashion magazines."Statistically, people cook between one and three recipes from a book," she said.

Among the other trends, Cointreau points to manuals on increasingly specific themes, such as cupcakes, reqional cuisine, but also cookbooks for children and self-published books.

Cointreau said the annual market for cookbooks is estimated at around six billion dollars and is growing at between three and five percent, with television programmes the prime growth driver.

The market is also still very much for printed rather than electronic books, he said.

But growth can vary from country to country. In France, for example, the market appears to be running out of steam, at least for now.

According to the specialist magazine Livres Hebdo, around 1,760 new cookbooks or new editions appeared in 2014, which represented a stagnation compared with previous year, after the segment had notched up consistent growth between 2006 and 2012.

In Germany, books on food and drink make up around 28% of sales of what are generally classified as guide or instruction books. But that proportion has also remained unchanged for the past two years, after growing consistently in the preceding years. – AFP, October 18, 2015.

19 octobre 2015 En décembre dernier, Juergen Boos – directeur de la Foire du livre de Francfort – et Edouard Cointreau – vice-président de la World Cookbook Fair – signaient un accord déterminant pour l’avenir de l’édition culinaire. Leur objectif était de réunir les principaux acteurs du secteur à la Foire de Francfort dès 2015.

Après le Chine, l’Allemagne. Après les Cookbook Awards de Yantaï en juin, le Salon de Francfort mettait donc à l’honneur en octobre les livres de cuisine et de vins.

“Il y a vingt ans, les livres gourmands étaient cachés et juste pour les spécialistes”, mais maintenant “les

gens ont besoin de réconfort dans un monde traversé de crises et les livres de cuisine sont une manière d’être contents, de rêver, de voyager“, explique Edouard Cointreau, spécialiste du secteur et président des Gourmand World Cookbook Awards qui fêtent leur vingtième anniversaire.

Cette année à Francfort, plus grand rendez-vous mondial de l’édition qui s’est terminé dimanche, un espace agrandi, baptisé Gourmet Gallery, était réservé exclusivement à la cuisine. C’est la première fois qu’une surface aussi grande était consacrée à l’édition gastronomique et œnologique. On a pu découvrir des recueils culinaires du monde entier, qu’il s’agisse des spécialités russes, des recettes indonésiennes et d’Amérique latine, de beaux livres français, ou encore d’ouvrages sur la cuisine de Gaza, à côté de manuels gastronomiques d’Israël.

Essentiellement stimulé par la télévision et les sites internet, le marché du livre de cuisine, toujours très focalisé sur le papier et comptant peu de versions électroniques, progresse de 3% à 5% par an. Il est estimé à quelque six milliards de dollars.

En France selon le magazine spécialisé Livres Hebdo, avec 1.760 nouveaux livres ou nouvelles éditions en 2014, la production d’ouvrages consacrés à la cuisine a stagné, alors qu’entre 2006 et 2012, chaque année voyait plus de livres arriver sur le marché.

En Allemagne, les livres de cuisine représentent les plus grosses ventes des livres dits “de conseil”. Leur part dans le chiffre d’affaires de ce segment a aussi stagné depuis deux ans, à 28%, alors qu’elle n’avait cessé de progresser les années précédentes.

En Chine la sauce commence à prendre d’autant plus que de nombreux livres gourmands notamment français sont maintenant imprimés là-bas.

Du coup, en 2016 c’est encore à Yantaï sur les bords de la mer de Chine que se dérouleront au printemps, comme l’an dernier, les Gourmand World Cookbook Awards.

Entre desserts gourmands, légumes alléchants et chefs tout sourire, la Foire du livre de Francfort met en avant les ouvrages de cuisine, une valeur sûre de l'édition, qui gagne les pays du monde entier.

"Il y a vingt ans, les livres de cuisine étaient cachés et juste pour les spécialistes", mais maintenant "les gens ont besoin de réconfort dans un monde traversé de crises et les livres de cuisine sont une manière d'être contents, de rêver, de voyager", explique Edouard Cointreau, spécialiste du secteur et président des Gourmand World Cookbook Awards.

Cette année à Francfort, plus grand rendez-vous mondial de l'édition qui se termine dimanche, un espace agrandi, baptisé Gourmet Gallery, est réservé exclusivement à la cuisine : s'y côtoient des recueils culinaires du monde entier, qu'il s'agisse des spécialités russes, des recettes indonésiennes, des secrets du chef Alain Ducasse, ou encore d'ouvrages sur la cuisine de Gaza, à côté de manuels gastronomiques d'Israël.

Engouement en Iran L'engouement pour les livres de recettes se retrouve maintenant dans presque tous les pays. En Iran notamment. "Il y a cinq ans, ce n'était pas comme ça, mais maintenant, c'est devenu populaire d'avoir des livres de cuisine", explique la chef Samira Janatdoust. Elle est venue présenter ses livres, malgré la décision de Téhéran

de boycotter cette année le salon de Francfort, en raison de la venue de l'écrivain britannique Salman Rushdie, visé en 1989 par une fatwa pour son roman "Les versets sataniques".

Difficile du coup de se démarquer dans un marché encombré. L'artiste de Barcelone Sofia Piqueras propose elle de faire des pièces uniques, qu'elle décore individuellement avec des napperons faits à la main, des couleurs réalisées au moyen d'épices ou des herbes aromatiques.

"Il y a définitivement des tendances qui deviennent évidentes partout dans le monde", indique Pixie Shields, directrice des cessions de droits internationaux de Marabout (Hachette Livre), un des poids lourds du secteur.

Les livres de cuisine saine, végétarienne, végétalienne, etc. ont ainsi le vent dans les voiles. Marabout compte parmi ses livres plébiscités celui sur les smoothies verts, ou encore celui de recettes autour du chou frisé.

Les gens recherchent aussi des beaux livres à exposer dans leur cuisine et à feuilleter occasionnellement et ils en achètent de nouveau au fur et à mesure que leur esthétique évolue, explique Mme Shields, comparant cela "à un beau magazine de mode". Mais "statistiquement, vous cuisinez deux ou trois recettes du livre", reconnaît-elle.

Parmi les autres tendances, Edouard Cointreau relève celle des ouvrages thématiques, de plus en plus spécifiques (tel type de pâtisserie, de cuisson et de spécialités régionales), les livres pour initier les enfants à la cuisine, mais aussi les livres autoédités.

Mais "statistiquement, vous cuisinez deux ou trois recettes du livre", reconnaît-elle.

Parmi les autres tendances, Edouard Cointreau relève celle des ouvrages à thématique de plus en plus spécifiques (tel type de pâtisserie, de cuisson et de spécialités régionales), les livres pour initier les enfants à la cuisine, mais aussi les livres auto-édités.

"Los libros de cocina ayudan a sentirse a gusto en casa", argumentó Cointreau, fundador de una feria internacional de edición culinaria en París. Un valor que consideró clave "en un mundo cada vez más complejo".

"Las recetas de un libro de cocina deben ser ligeras, baratas y rápidas", añadió en la "Galería Gourmet" de la Feria del Libro de Fráncfort, que este año volvió a crecer hasta acoger unos mil títulos procedentes de más de 30 países.

Cointreau tiene su explicación para el éxito del sector: "La gente quiere tener algo de lo que enorgullecerse".

Por eso se da una suerte de competencia que impulsa las cocinas nacionales, regionales o hasta locales. Desde pueblos pequeños hasta una "nueva estrella" del firmamento culinario como Perú.

Además, los libros de cocina cubren espectros cada vez más amplios del ramo. A ingredientes tradicionales como la carne se suman nuevas especialidades como los embutidos.

Para Cointreau, los libros de cocina son un regalo muy popular que no siempre se usa. De media, los propietarios no pasan de una o dos recetas favoritas que cocinan de cada libro.

Según un estudio estadounidense, el 80 por ciento de los dueños de libros de cocina leen en la cama. "La gente no suele cocinar ahí nada", concluyó el experto.

La fiebre de los libros de cocina se extiende por el mundo

Fráncfort, la principal cita mundial del libro que termina el domingo, le reserva este año un espacio más grande, bautizado Gourmet Gallery. En él se pueden encontrar recopilaciones culinarias del mundo entero, tanto rusas como indonesias, o los secretos

del chef Alain Ducasse. También la cocina de Gaza, al lado de los manuales gastronómicos de Israel.

Entusiasmo en Irán El frenesí por los libros de recetas se ha extendido a casi todos los países, entre ellos Irán. “Hace cinco años no era así, pero ahora se ha hecho popular tener libros de cocina”, explica la chef Samira Janatdust.

Esta chef acudió a presentar sus libros pese a la decisión de Teherán de boicotear este año el salón de Fráncfort debido a la presencia del escritor británico Salman Rushdie, blanco en 1989 de una fetua por su novela “Los versículos satánicos”.

Conseguir destacar en este revoltijo es todo un desafío. La barcelonesa Sofía Piqueras propone hacer piezas únicas, que decora con tapetes hechos a mano y colores realizados con especias o hierbas aromáticas.

Hay tendencias que se generalizan. Los libros de cocina sana y vegetariana tienen el viento en popa. La editorial Marabout cuenta con uno de zumos verdes y otro sobre la col verde rizada que gozan de gran acogida.

La gente también quiere libros bonitos para exhibir en sus cocinas u hojear de vez en cuando, a los que van añadiendo otros a medida que evoluciona su estética, explica Pixie Shields, una responsable de Marabout, uno de los pesos pesados del sector.

“Es como una revista de moda bonita” pero “estadísticamente cocinan dos o tres recetas del libro”, reconoce.

Entre las otras tendencias, Edouard Cointreau destaca las obras temáticas, cada vez más específicas (como las de pastelería, cocción y especialidades regionales, los libros de iniciación para los niños o los autoeditados).

El mercado de los libros de cocina avanza gracias al estímulo de la televisión y las páginas web. Se centra en la versión papel, con pocas páginas digitales, y progresa entre 3% y 5% por año, según el especialista, que lo cifra en unos 6.000 millones de dólares.

Pero hay altibajos en función de los países. En Francia, por ejemplo, se ha estancado en los últimos años, al igual que en Alemania, aunque aquí sigue representando las mayores ventas dentro de los llamados libros de ayuda.

¿Por qué ahora hay tantos libros de cocina?

El fenómeno fue explicado por el experto Edouard Cointreau en la Feria del Libro de Frankfurt.

“Twenty years ago, cookbooks were hidden; cookbooks were not respected,” Gourmand World Cookbook Awards president Edouard Cointreau said. “You had to be [a] specialist and if you were specialized, you never went very far in a big publishing house.”

However, nowadays “people need comfort in a world that has become more and more difficult with crises. And cookbooks are one of the ways to be happy,” he said.

“Cookbooks are to dream, to feel good, to travel,” he said.

In the sprawling exhibition halls hosting the world’s biggest book fair until today, the Gourmet Gallery is dedicated exclusively to cooking, with recipe books on display from all over the world. A stand from Gaza sits alongside one from Israel; there are books ranging from Russian specialities and Indonesian dishes to the secrets of celebrated French cuisine maestro Alain Ducasse.

Cookbooks are a runaway success in almost every corner of the world, including Iran.

“Five years ago, our market was not like that, but now, cookbooks are more popular in Iran,” chef Samira Janatdoust said, presenting her own books despite Tehran’s boycott of the fair, sparked by an appearance from British-Indian writer Salman Rushdie, author of The Satanic Verses.

In such a crowded global market, it is often difficult to stand out. Sofia Piqueras, an artist from Barcelona, offers eye-catching one-off editions with handmade covers decorated with aromatic herbs and spices.

“There are definitely trends emerging all over the world,” said Pixie Shields, international rights director at Marabout (Hachette Livre), one of the big players in the sector.

Particularly en vogue at the moment are books on healthy eating, on vegetarian and vegan cooking, and recipes for kale dishes or green smoothies.

People tend to go for brightly presented books, full of photographs, which they can show off in their kitchen and leaf through occasionally, Shields said.

For most people, cookbooks are like glossy fashion magazines.

“Statistically, people cook between one and three recipes from a book,” she said.

Among the other trends, Cointreau points to manuals on increasingly specific themes, such as cupcakes, reqional cuisine, but also cookbooks for children and self-published books.

Cointreau said the annual market for cookbooks is estimated at about US$6 billion and is growing at between 3 and 5 percent, with television programs the prime growth driver.

The market is also still very much for printed rather than electronic books, he said.

However, growth can vary from country to country. In France, for example, the market appears to be running out of steam, at least for now.

According to the specialist magazine Livres Hebdo, about 1,760 new cookbooks or new editions appeared last year, flat compared with the previous year, after the segment had notched up consistent growth between 2006 and 2012.

In Germany, books on food and drink make up about 28 percent of sales of what are generally classified as guide or instruction books. However, that proportion has also remained unchanged for the past two years, after growing consistently in the preceding years.

But growth can vary from country to country. In France, for example, the market appears to be running out of steam, at least for now.

According to the specialist magazine Livres Hebdo, around 1,760 new cookbooks or new editions appeared in 2014, which represented a stagnation compared with previous year, after the segment had notched up consistent growth between 2006 and 2012.

Für Kochbuchschaffende startete die Frankfurter Buchmesse auch in diesem Jahr wieder mit der Auszeichnung der besten Kochbücher des vergangenen Jahres durch die Gastronomische Akademie Deutschlands e.V. (GAD): 46 mal Silber und 16 Goldmedaillen wurden unter den 125 Einreichungen im Radisson Blue Hotel vergeben.

Zeit auch für eine kurze Analyse der »Warengruppe Essen und Trinken« im Buchhandel: die fetten Jahre mit stetigen Zugewinnen sind vorbei, gejammert wird dennoch auf hohem Niveau. Im einstelligen unteren Prozentbereich liegen die Einbußen der Branche gegenüber dem Vorjahr, die Bücher der Fernsehköche laufen nicht mehr gewohnt prächtig, Umsatzeinbußen auch auf dem Markt der Reduktionsdiäten. Gesundheit und Wohlsein sind dennoch nach wie vor die stärksten Verkäufer, die Flut der veganen und vegetarischen Bücher ist ungebrochen, dicht gefolgt von den populären Ernährungsratgebern und mehr oder weniger kulinarischen Heilsversprechungen mit immer absurderen Titeln wie »Paleo Smoothies«.

Megatrend Fermentation Erfolgreich sind auch Back- und Konditorei-Themen, ungebrochen stark das Segment der Fleisch- und Grillbücher. Dass man das Rad nicht komplett neu erfinden kann, ist in Folge auch eine stetig wiederkehrende Erkenntnis der Branche zur Buchmesse. Lichtblicke und Highlights gibt es im kleinen Nischenmarkt der Fine Dining- und Hochküchen-Bücher. Gold für Yannick Allènos Meisterwerk »Französische Küche« (Matthaes Verlag), Gold auch für Heiko Antoniewicz großartiges Buch zum Megatrend »Fermentation« (Edition Fackelträger). Verdientes Gold gab es zudem für das so schön gestaltete, wie innovative Werk »Moos, Fisch, Rinde, Blatt« aus der Edition Styria.

Gourmand World Cookbook Awards Große Namen, und unzählige Auszeichnungen in nicht weniger als 109 Einzelkategorien, gab es dann am Donnerstagabend bei der Verleihung der 20th Gourmand World Cookbook Awards im großen Saal des Congress Center Frankfurt. Edouard Cointreau, der geistige Vater dieses Preises, führte persönlich durch den (langen) Abend, an dem auch die besten Kochbücher der vergangenen zwanzig Jahre prämiert wurden, 35 Auszeichnungen gingen in den deutschsprachigen Raum. Die Preisvergaben beider Verleihungen hätte man sich ein wenig festlicher gewünscht, zumindest bei der GAD wurde, anlässlich des 50. Jubiläums des Wettbewerbs im kommenden Jahr, bereits laut über eine Gala mit informativen, lockeren Talks nachgedacht.

Kulinarisches Spitzentreffen Was kocht im Topf? Die Frankfurter Buchmesse profiliert sich auch als Leistungsschau für die internationale Kulinarikszene. Sie hat in diesem Jahr die Kochbuchmesse World Cookbook Fair integriert, die bislang in Paris beheimatet war. „Für uns schließt sich damit ein Kreis, denn mein Vater hat die World Cookbook Awards als wichtigste Auszeichnung für gastronomische Bücher 1995 in Frankfurt ins Leben gerufen“, erklärte Vizepräsident Edouard Cointreau Ende 2014 gegenüberbuchreport.

Anlässlich des Jubiläums der Auszeichnung für die besten Koch- und Getränkebücher der Welt haben die Veranstalter im Rahmen der Buchmesse die „Besten der Besten“ aus den vergangenen 20 Jahren geehrt.

Zu den Ausgezeichneten, die in Frankfurt auf die Bühne geholt wurden, gehörte auch buchreport. Das buchreport.spezial „Essen & Trinken“ gewann 2009 den Award als „weltbestes Buchhandelsmagazin“.

"Hace 20 años, los libros de cocina estaban escondidos y eran sólo para expertos", pero ahora "la gente necesita consuelo en un mundo lleno de crisis y los libros de cocina son una forma de estar alegre, de soñar, de viajar", explica el especialista del sector y presidente de los Gourmand World Cookbook Awards, Edouard Cointreau.

Fráncfort, la principal cita mundial del libro que termina hoy, le reserva este año a las publicaciones de cocina un espacio más grande, bautizado Gourmet Gallery. En él se pueden encontrar recopilaciones culinarias del mundo entero, tanto rusas como indonesias, o los secretos del chef francés Alain Ducasse. También la cocina de Gaza, al lado de los manuales gastronómicos de Israel.

Alrededor del globo El frenesí por los libros de recetas se ha extendido a casi todos los países, entre ellos Irán. "Hace cinco años no era así, pero ahora se ha hecho popular tener libros de cocina", explica la chef Samira Janatdust.

Esta cocinera acudió a presentar sus libros pese a la decisión de Teherán de boicotear este año el salón de Fráncfort debido a la presencia del escritor británico Salman Rushdie, blanco en 1989 de una polémica por su novela Los versículos satánicos.

Conseguir destacar entre el revoltijo es todo un desafío. La barcelonesa Sofía Piqueras propone hacer piezas únicas, que decora con tapetes hechos a mano y colores realizados con especias o hierbas aromáticas.

Además, tay tendencias que se generalizan. Los libros de cocina sana y vegetariana tienen el viento en popa. La editorial francesa Marabout cuenta con uno de zumos verdes y otro sobre el kale o "col verde rizada", un vegetal que ha gozado de gran popularidad en Estados Unidos.

La gente también quiere libros vistosos para exhibir en sus cocinas u hojear de vez en cuando, a los que van añadiendo otros a medida que evoluciona su estética, explica Pixie Shields, una responsable de Marabout, uno de los pesos pesados del sector. "Es como una revista de moda bonita", pero "estadísticamente cocinan dos o tres recetas del libro", reconoce.

Entre las otras tendencias, Cointreau destaca las obras temáticas, cada vez más específicas, como las de pastelería, cocción y especialidades regionales, los libros de iniciación para los niños o los autoeditados.

El mercado de los libros de cocina avanza gracias al estímulo de la televisión y las páginas web.

Se centra en la versión papel, con pocas páginas digitales, y progresa entre 3% y 5% por año, según el especialista, que cifra el negocio en unos US$ 6.000 millones.

Sin embargo, hay altibajos en función de los países, ya que Francia y Alemania, por ejemplo, se han estancado en los últimos años, priorizando la producción de obras pertenecientes al rubro de

libros de autoayuda.

Triunfo uruguayo Con el objetivo de conmemorar su 20º aniversario, los premios Gourmand Cookbook Awards reconocieron en Fráncfort a los mejores libros de cocina y vino de los últimos 20 años. En esta edición, la obra uruguayo Nuestras recetas de siempre (2012) se erigió como el tercero más destacado de América Latina, solo superado por La Tacopedia (2013) de México y El gran libro del postre peruano (2011) de Perú. Nuestras recetas de siempre, del chef Hugo Soca, había sido reconocido en los premios de 2012 como el mejor libro latinoamericano de ese año. Con imágenes del fotógrafo Diego Velazco, ilustraciones e incluso partituras musicales, el libro hace un recorrido por más de 120 platos claves para la tradición culinaria de Uruguay.

Weltweit wächst der Markt für Kochbücher. "Kochbücher helfen dabei, sich zu Hause glücklich zu fühlen", sagte der französische Experte Edouard Cointreau auf der Frankfurter Buchmesse. Dies sei in einer "immer schwierigeren Welt" wichtig.

TV-Shows mit Köchen als Entertainern und das Internet haben dem Markt einen großen Schub mit einem jährlichen Wachstum von drei bis fünf Prozent gegeben. "Leicht, billig und schnell" muss derzeit ein Kochbuch mit seinen Rezepten sein.

Beliebtes Geschenk Kochbücher werden gerne verschenkt - und selektiv benutzt. Die Menschen kochen im Schnitt nur ein oder zwei Gerichte aus ganz wenigen Büchern nach. Die Kochbücher

werden nach einer US-Studie zu 80 Prozent ausgerechnet im Bett gelesen. "Dort kochen die Leute normalerweise nicht", meinte der Experte trocken.

Wie gut sind die Rezepte?

Vor Rezepten im Internet warnte er: "Viele Rezepte funktionieren dort nicht." Die Buchmesse hat mit Hilfe von Cointreau, der in Paris eine Kochbuch-Messe gründete, ihre "Gourmet Gallery" stark ausgebaut. Rund 30 Länder sind dort mit mehr als 1.000 Titeln vertreten.

Wettbewerb der Länder Am kulinarischen Firmament sind übrigens ganz neue Länder wie etwa Peru erschienen, sagt Cointreau. Er sieht einen Wettbewerb der Nationen. "Die Menschen wollen auf etwas stolz sein können." Zugleich fächert sich der Markt auf: Es geht nicht mehr allein um Fleisch, sondern etwa auch um Würste. Geografisch gibt es Kochbücher inzwischen sogar über Dörfer, wie Cointreau berichtet.

De Franse organisatie Gourmand International die elk jaar de prestigieuze Gourmand Awards organiseert - prijzen voor de beste kookboeken op de internationale markt - heeft op de Duitse Frankfurter Messe een speciale award uitgereikt. Naar aanleiding van hun 20ste verjaardag werd het

beste kookboek van alle winnaars van afgelopen edities in de bloemen gezet. De onderscheiding in de categorie 'best series' ging naar de volledige reeks kookboeken die Pascale Naessens sinds 2010 publiceert onder de titels Mijn Pure Keuken 1 en 2, Puur Genieten 1 en 2 en Puur Eten 1 en 2.

Naessens, die al twee keer goud haalde - in 2013 in Parijs en in 2014 in Peking - mocht deze ultieme bekroning in ontvangst nemen uit de handen van de voorzitter van de organisatie Edouard Cointreau.

De foodie, voormalig model en tv-presentatrice bracht in 2010 haar eerste kookboek uit. 'Mijn Pure Keuken 1' brak - net als alle opvolgers - meteen potten.

Haar meeste recente titel kwam vorige maand uit: ook 'Puur Eten 2' haalde in geen tijd de nummer een in de toptien van de algemene boekenverkoop in Vlaanderen.

Met haar boeken brengt Naessens een ode aan de gezonde keuken en toont ze dat je met eenvoudige ingrediënten bijzonder creatief kan zijn. Ook internationaal worden haar boeken gesmaakt, met vertalingen in Duits, Frans, Engels en Chinees. Nu wordt de volledige bundel ook nog eens onthaald als beste kookboekenreeks van de afgelopen 20 jaar. De prijs werd uitgereikt op de grootste boekenbeurs ter wereld Jamie Oliver won in de categorie 'Best of the best Cookbook' met 'The Naked Chef'. Buku-buku yang mengulas soal kuliner, masak-memasak, ataupun resep dapur, mendapat tempat khusus dalam dunia penerbitan sebagaimana tampak di pameran buku terbesar dunia yang digelar di Jerman itu.

Dengan menempati ruang berukuran lapang di pameran, area yang diberi nama Gourmet Gallery, didedikasikan secara eksklusif untuk buku-buku tentang kuliner atau masak-memasak. Di sana buku-buku masak dari seluruh dunia dipamerkan ke publik. Ada buku-buku yang khusus membahas kuliner Rusia, ada pula buku soal masakan Prancis, juga buku tentang masakan khas Indonesia, yakni negara yang menjadi tamu kehormatan dalam Frankfurt Book Fair 2015 yang ditutup hari ini.

Bersamaan dengan meningkatnya aksi kekerasan Palestina-Israel di Timur Tengah, di Gourmet Gallery itu stan buku dari Gaza, Palestina, malah bersisian dengan stan Israel.

Demam buku masak pun melanda dunia penerbitan Iran. "Lima tahun lalu, pasar kami tidak seperti itu, tetapi sekarang buku masak amat populer di Iran," kata juru masak asal Iran, Samira Janatdoust, yang memamerkan karya pribadinya meskipun negaranya memboikot ajang itu karena memberi ruang bagi buku The Satanic Verses karya penulis Inggris kelahiran India yang kontroversial, Salman Rushdie.

Buku-buku kuliner dan masak-memasak memang populer. Bagi kebanyakan orang, buku memasak itu seperti majalah fesyen dengan gambar-gambar mengilap.

Tema-temanya pun semakin spesifik sebut saja cupcakes, masakan khas regional, bahkan buku memasak untuk anak-anak.

"Dua puluh tahun lalu, buku-buku masak dipajang tersembunyi, tidak dihormati.

Seseorang harus spesialis betul untuk urusan masak-memasak kala itu. Jika tidak, ya Anda tidak bisa diterima sebuah penerbit besar," kata Edouard Cointreau, Presiden Gourmand World Cookbook Awards, yakni lembaga yang memberi penghargaan bagi buku-buku kuliner, wine, juga koki di seluruh dunia. Kini pasar tahunan dunia untuk buku masakan, dijelaskan Cointreau, cukup besar, yaitu sekitar US$6 miliar (Rp80 triliun) dan tumbuh 3%-5%. Program televisi ikut menumbuhkan pasar tersebut meskipun buku-buku masak yang dicetak masih mendominasi daripada karya elektronik.

Menurut Cointreau, dengan kondisi dunia sekarang ini yang sedang sulit dihantam krisis, orang-orang membutuhkan kenyamanan. Nah, buku masak, kata dia, ibarat penawar bagi kesulitan hidup sekaligus media untuk mewujudkan kebahagiaan.

"Buku masak membuat kita bermimpi, merasa nyaman, dan membawa kita berkelana," ujar Cointreau.

No, niso ga pričarali kar tako, iz zraka; svetovni sejem kuharskih knjig je tja, kjer se je začel in kamor pravzaprav sodi, v Frankfurt, na največji knjižni sejem na svetu, pripeljal sin ustanovitelja mednarodne nagrade za najboljše kuharske knjige Édouard Cointreau, sin prav tako Édouarda Cointreauja, tistega iz znamenite družine, za katero vemo, da zna od leta 1870 dalje narediti več kot opojno pomarančasto žganico, cointreau. Diario El Comercio premiado por libro sobre Gastón Acurio 500 años de fusión obtuvo el premio del mejor libro de cocina de los últimos 20 años en el mundo

En el marco de la Feria del libro en Frankfurt (Frankfurter Buchmesse), Alemania, tuvo lugar la celebración del vigésimo aniversario de los Gourmand World Cookbook Awards, premio que, cada año, elige los mejores libros de cocina y de vino en el mundo. Durante la ceremonia por sus dos décadas, se reconoció a los mejores libros entre los ganadores de todos los años anteriores. Entre ellos, el libro sobre Gastón Acurio, editado por Diario El Comercio, fue el más destacado.

Los Premios Gourmand concedieron el premio "Lo mejor de lo mejor" ("The best of the best"), en la categoría de "Mejor libro de cocina" al libro "500 años de fusión. La historia, los ingredientes y las nuevas propuestas de la cocina peruana". Este libro fue elegido en 2009 como "Mejor libro del año" (Best Cookbook of the Year) y, en esta oportunidad, vuelve a ser reconocido, siendo nombrado el ganador entre los ganadores.

El libro, editado por el área de Publicaciones del Diario El Comercio,contiene una minuciosa revisión de la tradición de las cocinas regionales de nuestro país y las influencias internacionales, así como de los variados insumos de la gastronomía peruana y recetas exclusivas de Gastón Acurio.

Edouard Cointreau, presidente y fundador de los Premios Gourmand, anunció este premio el pasado jueves 15 de octubre, el mismo que fue recibido por Hirka Roca-Rey, editora de la publicación.

EL DATO "500 años de fusión" obtuvo también el Prix Littéraire Gastronomique, otorgado en 2009 por La Academia Internacional de Gastronomía, con sede en España.

El certamen “Best of the Best”, organizado por el XX aniversario de Gourmand World Cookbook Awards (1995-­‐2015) en la Feria Internacional del Libro de Frankfurt, premió a la USMP, y a los mejores libros del mundo entre 1995 y 2015.

El Decano de la Facultad de Ciencias de la Comunicación, Turismo y Psicología de la USMP, doctor Johan Leuridan Huys, premiado por Gourmand como mejor editor de libros de

gastronomía en el año 2005, asistió a la ceremonia “Best of the Best”, premiación especial entre los ganadores de los primeros 20 años del Gourmand, y recibió la más alta distinción que reconoce a la USMP como la editorial de libros de gastronomía más importante del mundo en los últimos veinte años.

La premiación tuvo lugar en Frankfurt, durante la Feria Internacional del Libro, donde Gourmand World Cookbook Awards, fundado en 1995 por Edouard Cointreau, celebró su XX aniversario en una ceremonia en el Teatro Harmonie. También fueron distinguidos los mejores libros de gastronomía de los últimos 20 años, con la categoría “Best of the Best”.

Así mismo, el libro La flor morada de los Andes, de Sara Beatriz Guardia, ganó el premio como Mejor Libro del Mundo 1995-­‐2015 en la categoría “Single subject”. Premiación que se suma a cuatro premios recibidos con anterioridad en distintas categorías por este libro. Al recibir la distinción, Sara Beatriz Guardia agradeció al rector de la USMP, ingeniero José Antonio Chang Escobedo, presente en la premiación, y al decano Johan Leuridan Huys, por el permanente esfuerzo y dedicación en la publicación de casi cien libros de cocina, muchos premiados por Gourmand World Cookbook Awards.

Reconocimientos de alcance mundial que indudablemente significan un gran logro para el Perú y consolidan una vez más el liderazgo editorial de la USMP en la publicación de libros de gastronomía.

Los libros de cocina de Castellón asaltan Yantai (China) y Frankfurt (Alemania)

Cocina Casera de Castellón, de Irene Barberà, en la Feria del libro de Frankfurt junto con nuestra compañera Sofía Piqueras y sus libros de la colección “Mis amigos los fogones”.

Sofía Piqueras ha sido galardonada con su libro “Sabors amb memòria” como el mejor libro del mundo en la categoría Best Design Cookbook por los prestigiosos Gourmand World Cookbook Awards, que se celebraron recientemente en la ciudad china de Yantai.

Laura Gosalbo, directora del espacio gastronómico de Barcelona, Gastronomía Activa, presentó su último libro “Love at first taste, a guide to enjoyimg extra virgin olive oil”. Este libro es ya un referente como guía para la apreciación y cata del aceite de oliva virgen extra y va a ser traducido al alemán, italiano, y español. “...lo presentamos en lengua inglesa en su primera edición, debido a la necesidad en el sector de una guía de estas características, ya que el aceite de Oliva es un producto cada vez más utilizado en las cocinas del mundo, y España, es el máximo productor...” comenta Laura. Love at first taste cuenta con ilustraciones del alicantino Alexis Aldeguer y el diseño de Ilaria Mauro, que a su vez presentaban su versión inglesa de su cómic gastronómico Gourmand Gohan.

Hay que señalar que Sofía, Alexis, Ilaria y Laura conforman el equipo del nuevo proyecto editorial “WE COOK YOUR BOOK” para la edición personalizada de libros.

Laura Gosalbo además fué galardonada como “BEST OF THE BEST en el 20 Aniversario de los Gourmand International Cookbook Awards” como mejor libro del mundo en la categoría de Cocina con frutas, con su libro “Bojos per la Cirera”, publicado en catalán en 2005 y traducido ya al inglés, alemán y castellano. La entrega de diplomas tuvo lugar el pasado día 15 en el Auditorio del Palacio de Congresos de la Frankfurt Messe.

La chef y artista Sofía Piqueras no dejó de sorprender a los visitantes de la feria pintando los libros con especias e ingredientes de la cocina como indicaban las recetas: pimentón, canela, zumo de espinacas, mate...

La Târgul de carte de la Frankfurt a fost rezervat un spațiu special culegerilor de rețete din lumea întreagă, în contextul în care astfel de cărți, precum și emisiuni TV, câștigă tot mai mult teren. "Acum 20 de ani, cărțile de rețete nu erau răspândite, fiind consultate doar de specialiști", însă acum "oamenii au nevoie de o mângâiere întro lume plină de crize. Cărțile de bucătărie sunt un mod de a fi bucuros, a visa și a călători", spune Edouard Cointreau, specialist în domeniu și președinte al Gourmand World Cookbook Awards, citat vineri de AFP.

La cel mai mare târg de carte, care se închide duminică în orașul german Frankfurt, a fost alocat un spaţțiu mai mare, numit Gourmet Gallery, consacrat exclusiv bucătăriei. Aici se

găsesc culegeri de reţțete culinare din toată lumea — mâncare indoneziană, rusească, secrete ale lui Alain Ducasse sau preparate din Gaza, alături de manuale de gătit din Israel.

Există interes faţță de scrierile gastronomice peste tot în lume. Samira Janatdoust, chef din Iran, a venit la târg să își prezinte cărţțile, în pofida deciziei Teheranului de a boicota în acest an Salonul de la Frankfurt ca urmare a invitării scriitorului britanic Salman Rushdie, vizat în 1989 de o fatwa pentru romanul său "Versetele satanice".

Artista Sofia Piqueras din Barcelona pregătește produse unice, decorate fiecare cu șerveţțele lucrate manual, în culori realizate cu ajutorul condimentelor sau al ierburilor aromatice.

Există la salon cărţți de bucate sănătoase, vegetariene, vegan etc. Se caută la târg și cărţți frumoase, care își pot găsi locul în bucătărie, la vedere, și care pot fi răsfoite din când în când, chiar dacă deţținătorii gătesc doar trei-patru reţțete din ele.

O altă tendinţță este și cea a lucrărilor tematice, tot mai specifice (un anumit tip de patiserie, de pregătire și specialităţți regionale), de la cărţți pentru iniţțierea copiilor în gătit la audiobook-uri.

Piaţța cărţților de bucate, stimulată semnificativ de televiziune și site-uri internet, focalizată pe suportul de hârtie și având puţține versiuni electronice, avansează cu 3-5% pe an, potrivit lui Cointreau. Ea este evaluată la circa 6 miliarde de dolari.

7 Big Stories from the 2015 Frankfurt Book Fair The international Frankfurt Book Fair came to a close on Sunday, ending a week-long gathering of authors, agents, and publishing leaders who shared optimism for the future of the book industry. Whether publishing professionals expressed their excitement for global publishing initiatives, discussed the promise of data-driven strategies, or noted the challenges of ebook pricing, many of the conversations at Frankfurt focused on the biggest trends shaping the industry. Claudia Roden discusses "Gaza Kitchen" with its authors at Frankfurt

Just World Books was delighted to exhibit The Gaza Kitchen at the Gourmet Gallery of the 2015 Frankfurt Book Fair last week. Two very exciting things happened there: The book was named

by Gourmand International as the best book on Arab cuisine in the 20-year history of their cookbook publishing awards system. And our friends at Gourmand International organized a fascinating public discussion about The Gaza Kitchen between world-renowned cultural anthropologist and cookbook author Claudia Roden and the book's co-authors, Laila ElHaddad and Maggie Schmitt.

Roden said that ever since receiving an advance copy of the book's manuscript in 2012, she had been “very taken� by the project, and she offered generous praise for the efforts of El-Haddad and Schmitt to illuminate the little-known culture and cuisine of Palestine.

People think that “Gaza is the last place that there is going to be a gastronomic study, a cookbook” Roden said as she introduced her conversation with El-Haddad and Schmitt. But, she said, from the very beginning she was intrigued by the concept, explaining that: “It’s a very important book, not only because of the recipes (but the recipes are to me totally interesting)…. [But] I was mainly terribly grateful for the book for giving me an insight into what was going on in Gaza…

"The nice thing that I found was that it is heard through voices, of men and women, especially women, about how they struggle-- but also, with all the difficulties…the way they deal with them.”

Roden said she felt “very close to” the people featured in the cookbook, and felt they had “resilience and dignity” in spite of their harsh situation.

El-Haddad told the gathering that The Gaza Kitchen project was an opportunity to “use food as a lens” through which she and Schmitt examined “the intersection of food and politics, how food can help us identify and codify our heritage especially as Palestinians, since so much of that history has either been lost, destroyed, or completely disappeared, or devalued.”

She said she hoped to present this knowledge, collected from home cooks in the Gaza Strip, to both Palestinians and others around the world as “a sort of window into Gaza, and a stepping stone into understanding Palestine more broadly.”

Schmitt added that the cookbook gave them a way “to communicate that would reach more people than a strictly political or ethnographic account.”

Roden discussed how her own history as a Jewish émigré from Cairo whose family had earlier hailed from Aleppo sparked her interest in writing cookbooks on Middle Eastern and Arab cuisine. She said that, like the authors of The Gaza Kitchen, she had a tough time taking the special dishes intuitively created and passed down for generations and translating them into written recipes for her books.

At first, Roden said, she was brushed aside for her attempts to document cultural heritage through the world of cooking, but soon her work won over skeptics.

Schmitt noted that she was surprised at how easily Gazan Palestinians accepted their project, compared to people in the United States and Europe. “We were a little bit nervous…because we felt we were asking a lot, asking to go into their homes, most private and intimate spaces, and tell us their family recipes.... We were shocked and delighted that everyone caught on to the spirit of the book immediately.”

She recalled that when she and El-Haddad did their research for the book in Gaza in 2010, the Gaza-Palestinian women competed to provide their special family recipes of local dishes for inclusion in the book, and appreciated being given the space to tell their personal stories outside of the typical political narrative about the war-torn area.

The well-attended conversation continued for almost an hour, delving into the subject of cultural appropriation, and exploring how food can bring people together but should not be used as a means of erasing the complex roots and heritage of the dishes.

Big stars, cookbooks and dominoes lined up for Frankfurt Book Fair Â

Author Salman Rushdie will be the keynote speaker at the upcoming Frankfurt International Book Fair (October 14-18), which will feature a larger and more international culinary section than ever before this year in addition to its usual roster of hot fiction and non-fiction titles and deals.

Rushdie, whose latest novel, "Two Years Eight Months and Twenty-Eight Nights", released last month, will speak about freedom of expression in the fair's keynote address, kicking off a programme that will feature a number of famous authors, thanks in part a new partnership with the BBC that will see the

broadcaster interview Isabel Allende, Ken Follett and German writer Charlotte Roche.

Also new in 2015, the fair is partnering with the World Cookbook Fair to more than double the number of exhibitors at its annual Gourmet Gallery.

Around 1,000 titles will be displayed by 80 exhibitors from 30 countries, with well-known participating chefs to include Marlena Spieler of the US, Chef Wan of Malaysia and the UK's Martin Walker, whose Bruno cookbook is named for the main character in his French-set mystery series and will launch in English at the fair.

Meanwhile, Asia's role as a literary hotspot will be highlighted at this year's fair, which is spotlighting Indonesia as 2015 guest of honour. The country, which has seen sustained economic growth over the past ten years, has a developing domestic book market and, as 40%-50% of its published titles are translations – mainly English, Arabic, Chinese, Korean and Japanese – is the largest buyer of rights in Southeast Asia.

Among the more unusual plans for the 2015 fair, a team led by Patrick Sinner, who holds several records for building domino chains, will attempt a domino chain of 10,000 Guinness World Records books, attempting to break a record of 9,862 books that was recently set in Japan. The Frankfurt Book Fair actually consists of many book fairs. It is at once the world’s largest children’s book fair, the world’s largest educational book fair, and above all the world’s largest cookbook fair. A few highlights of the fair will include: Guest of honour – Indonesia Indonesia is the guest of honour country at this year’s Frankfurt book Fair. The international exhibition "Books on Indonesia" is organised by the Frankfurt Book Fair with the intention of reflecting and presenting the "outside view" of Indonesia from authors and publishers. While, Island of Spice exhibition will feature aroma, texture and a firework of colours presented through the spices of Indonesia.

One may be lucky enough to even have a taste of some in the café where delicacies are served. Island of Images will showcase Indonesian comics, graphic novels and animations while Island of Illumination will present various traditional scripts used in the Indonesian archipelago from ancient times. Through it visitors will travel to the early 7th century and onwards to this modern age. There are many more such activities planned during the show.

Besides, every year, the Frankfurt Book Fair is hosting the "Competition for Young Designers" that is looking for the most creative welcome posters for the Guest of Honour. The exhibition 'Welcome Indonesia Selamat Datang: Posters of Young Designers’ presents the ten winning posters that welcome the Guest of Honour 2015 - Indonesia.

29th International Rights Directors Meeting The 29th International Rights Directors Meeting (RDM), which is sponsored by Copyright Clearance Center (CCC), will take place from 2.00 - 5.00 pm on Tuesday October 13 in Room Dimension (Hall 4.2), the day before the official start of the Book Fair. Speakers from France and South East Asia will make up the programme, sharing insights into and expert knowledge about the rights market in the countries they are working in. Michael Healy, CCC’s executive director, International Relations will be the guest speaker at the International Rights Directors Meeting and will address the status of copyright in South East Asia. Chairing the session about France – an established and important player in the global rights market and Frankfurt’s Guest of Honour in 2017- will be Anne-Solange Noble, rights director at Editions Gallimard.

Presenting an in depth view on the current publishing landscape of the country will be Rebecca Byers, rights director at Editions Plon-Perrin. And providing top tips on how to successfully contact French acquisition editors will be Anne Michel, director of foreign fiction at Albin Michel.

South East Asia is a publishing territory of the future, with a young population eager for education and knowledge. At the RDM this year, publishing professionals from Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam will provide an overview of the most important publishing markets in South East Asia, the challenges and opportunities available right now, and the most exciting subject areas relevant for the rights trade. Speakers attending include Pimolporn Yutisri, managing director at the Tuttle-Mori Agency (Thailand), Linda Tan Lingard, managing partner at the Yusof Gajah Lingard Literary Agency (Malaysia), and Dr Nguyen Manh Hung, owner and CEO of the Thai Ha Books Publishing House (Vietnam).

Wrapping up the programme will be Adam Silverman, senior director of digital business development at HarperCollins Publishers US, who will be giving an update on digital rights. After the conclusion of the meeting, there will be an opportunity for networking at a reception, hosted by Klopotek, for both attendees and speakers.

The Markets: Global Publishing Summit How can foreign publishers operate successfully in China? What opportunities does the Indonesian book market offer? What role do national institutions play in the Mexican publishing industry? How is the Turkish children’s book market evolving? As part of the one-day conference, to be held a day before the fair officially opens, industry experts from these regions will provide exclusive insights into their respective markets and valuable firsthand knowledge. “With THE MARKETS, we’re helping our clients tap into business potential, recognise prospective areas for business and make personal contacts”, says Juergen Boos, director of the Frankfurt Book Fair. For each book market, one segment will be examined in detail: China – International partnerships and joint ventures; Germany – Academic publishing and specialist information; Indonesia – Trade publishers; Mexico – Trade publishers; South Korea – Education and children’s books; Turkey – The total market; and USA – Digital publishing and innovation.

Placing the individual markets in a global context, they will reveal what makes each of these markets unique and where the opportunities for business and growth lie.

B is for business Ken Follett knows where to make deals. On October 15, the bestselling British author will be a guest of the Business Club at the Frankfurt Book Fair to talk about the video game adaptation of his bestseller The Pillars of the Earth. Published in 1989, the historical novel is one of the top-selling books in the world, with 25 million copies sold. After being turned successfully into a film, television series, audiobook and board game, The Pillars of the Earth is now being adapted for the first time into an official video game by the Hamburg developer Daedalic Entertainment, a company of the Bastei Lübbe AG group. Together with Felix Rudloff of Bastei Lübbe and Carsten Fichtelmann of Daedalic, Follett will discuss this collaboration.

In addition to Ken Follett, over 150 experts from 13 countries will talk about trends and developments in international publishing at the Business Club. “Our guests are key players in the most important markets and sectors. They aren’t just presenting the latest trends in the international media industry – often they themselves also started these trends”, says Holger Volland, VP business development of the Frankfurt Book Fair.

With countless interactive formats, the programme planners are responding to the information needs of Business Club customers. The daily Business Breakfast “Where’s the business?” sessions will serve up hot industry topics to kick-start the day. Among other things, these events will look at functioning business models in the international textbook market, the growing market for comics and graphic novels, as well as innovative content strategies in the children’s book sector.

Cross - media, crowd funding, communities: Mixing pitches with direct exchanges, the event series Hug the Alien will bring together creative minds from the media industry. As part of the event “Hardcore Book Fan Hugging”, digital publisher Michael Bhaskar (Canelo) and Naomi Bacon (digital communications manager, Pan Mamillan), together with moderator Porter Anderson, will discuss requirements for and the future of fanbased business models. According to Michael Bashkar, “The publishing industry relies on fans, but we don’t understand them. We don’t understand which future products and content might work with fans. We need this knowledge.” Another key topic is the use of big data and algorithmic economic models in the book industry.

Failure as an opportunity to understand – that’s the concept behind the event “Uncensored”. Under the direction of publishing expert Sabine Schubert (Kirchner + Robrecht), transmedia producer Jerome Goerke and Mareike Hermes (head of business development, Carlsen Verlag, Hamburg) will discuss pitfalls and

winning formulas in implementing cross-media strategies. Under Mareike Hermes’s leadership, Carlsen was the first large book publisher to use crowdfunding as a marketing approach for its unusual comic book project “Graphic/atessen”.

The brilliant minds of tomorrow: On the Saturday of the fair, the industry’s young talent will take over the reins in the Business Club. Katja Splichal (head of online publishing and learning management systems, Verlag Eugen Ulmer will talk about opportunities and challenges in the book market of the future. On Young Professionals Day, in a workshop, Sandra Wegner (junior customer manager, PIPER Verlag) and Anja Paquin (digital media consultant, Bommersheim Consulting) will offer professional tips for starting a career in the sector. Through brief speed dating sessions, eight publishers – Schöffling & Co, Offenbach-Post Media Group, Verlag Eugen Ulmer, GABAL Verlag, Edel Publishing Group, Vogel Events, beam AG and S Fischer Verlage – will introduce themselves to interested newcomers on the stage of the Business Club.

Focus on Asia: From Indonesia, this year’s guest of honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair, comes the publisher Rafli L. Sato, whose publishing house BAB Publishing Indonesia/BAB Books specialises in high-quality publications about the island nation’s art and culture. His aim is to reveal the potential of the Indonesian book market:,“Our government now invests 20 per cent of the national budget in education. Readership is growing as a result. I see big opportunities in the children’s book and comics sector, for example.” The Englishlanguage market in Asia is the professional field of Jayapriya Vasudeva, who founded India’s first full-service literary agency in 1997. Today, she represents authors from India, Singapore, Australia, the Philippines, China and Japan. Hariza Mohd Yusof, Head of Publishing at Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), will provide information about the academic publishing sector in Malaysia, with a focus on public universities and national research institutes.

Buchmesse Frankfurt zieht Fazit: "Politischste, aber auch jüngste Buchmesse seit Langem / Besucherplus von zwei Prozent / Kurzbilanzen LitAg, Business Club, neues Messekonzept" Bis Emde des Tages erwartet die Messe insgesamt rund 275.000 Besucher (Fachbesuchertage: 140.474).

Das entspricht einem Besucher-Plus von rund 2 Prozent im Vergleich zum Vorjahr. „Die neuen Nachbarschaften, die durch die Umstrukturierung entstanden sind, stärken das Wir-Gefühl. Sie öffnen aber auch die Augen für neue Geschäftsfelder“, so der Eindruck von Buchmesse-Direktor Juergen Boos.

Er sagt: „Es zeigt sich deutlich, dass das internationale Lizenzgeschäft jeder einzelnen Community noch weiter ausbaufähig ist.“ Insgesamt sei die Branche euphorisch: „2015 war die erfolgreichste, geschäftigste Messe seit Jahren! Das haben mir Aussteller aus allen Marktregionen in persönlichen Gesprächen immer wieder bestätigt.“ „Die angespannte weltpolitische Lage hat sich direkt und unüberhörbar auf das Geschehen im Literaturbetrieb niedergeschlagen“, sagte Juergen Boos heute zum Abschluss der Frankfurter Buchmesse 2015. So zum Beispiel bei Zeruya Shalevs unerwartet persönlicher Schilderung ihres Alltags in Israel beim „Brigitte Live“-Talk. Oder beim Aufeinandertreffen iranischer Verleger mit Friedenspreisträger Navid Kermani im Weltempfang. Heinrich Riethmüller, Vorsteher des Börsenvereins des Deutschen Buchhandels: „Die Buchbranche hat klar Position für die Meinungs- und Publikationsfreiheit bezogen, die als Menschenrecht unverhandelbar ist, und damit weltweit ein Zeichen gesetzt.“ Zur Dynamik hätten auch die Events und Aussteller-Flächen für neue Communities beigetrageb: Food-, Handmade- oder Buchblogger hatten eigene Veranstaltungen und sind sowohl als Kreative wie auch als Konsumenten eine Bereicherung fürs Publishing.

Allein beim LovelyBooks Leser- und Bloggertreffen erschienen rund 300 Teilnehmer im neuen Orbanism Space in der Halle 4.1. Der Orbanism Space wurde von Leander Wattig und Christiane Frohmann in Partnerschaft mit der Frankfurter Buchmesse organisiert. Dieser neue Raum hat sich schnell als der MesseTreffpunkt für die digitale Content-Industrie und ihre Netzwerke etabliert. Stimulierend und selbstbewusst besetzen die jungen Digitalen Podien und Standflächen auch in allen weiteren Hallen der Messe. „Die Buchbranche hat ihre Kontakte zu Start-ups und neuen Marktteilnehmern intensiviert, um gemeinsam innovative Geschäftsmodelle für den Markt zu entwickeln“, begrüßte Riethmüller diesen deutlichen Trend aus Sicht der Buchbranche.

Neue, thematisch sortierte Nachbarschaften beflügeln das Geschäft: „Im Bereich der Gourmet Gallery wird besonders deutlich, wie gut sich Communities auf der Messe abbilden lassen und welche neuen Geschäftsmöglichkeiten sich daraus ergeben. Zum Beispiel fand zwischen der Gourmet Gallery, in der wir zahlreiche neue Aussteller begrüßen konnten, und der Kalendergalerie ein extrem reger Austausch statt“, berichtete Juergen Boos.

Das neue Messekonzept wurde auch von den Agenten und Scouts im LitAg in der Halle 6 begrüßt. Es bedeutete eine neue örtliche Nähe zu den englischsprachigen Verlagen. Laut Organisatoren waren Agenten vor allem an skandinavischer Literatur interessiert. Insgesamt waren hier 620 Agenten aus 32 Ländern vertreten.

Der Business Club der Frankfurter Buchmesse hat sich erneut als zentraler Anlaufpunkt für die kreativen Vordenker und ökonomischen Key-Player des internationalen Inhalte- und Mediengeschäfts erwiesen.

Insgesamt nutzen 3.200 Gäste aus 48 Ländern die Fach- und Service-Angebote der Business-Plattform. In der Club-Bilanz stehen auch 1.200 Terminvereinbarungen zwischen den Teilnehmern während der Fachtage.

Rempah dan Kuliner Indonesia Jadi 'Tamu Kehormatan' di Frankfurt Book Fair

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Lebih dari 62 jenis rempah asli Indonesia akan dipamerkan di ajang Frankfurt Book Fair 2015 di Jerman pada 13 hingga 18 Oktober mendatang. Tidak sekadar dipamerkan, rempah-rempah tersebut juga akan diolah dan disajikan menjadi makanan khas Indonesia pada pengunjung serta masyarakat yang hadir.

Hal ini merupakan bentuk diplomasi budaya seiring ditetapkannya Indonesia sebagai "Tamu Kehormatan" di ajang tersebut.

Dalam penyajiannya, Indonesia akan mengirimkan tim kuliner yang terdiri dari sekitar 25 tokoh kuliner dan juru masak ternama. Diantaranya William Wongso, Vindex Tengker, Sisca Soewitomo, Bara Pattiradjawane, Bondan Winarno, Ragil Wibowo, Astrid Enricka Dhita, Budi Lee, Petty Elliot, Santhi Serad dan lainnya.

Bondan Winarno, salah satu anggota tim kuliner Indonesia mengatakan, usia Frankfut Book Fair yang telah menginjak usia 400 tahun menunjukkan buku menjadi sangat penting bagi orang-orang barat.

"Karena buku tentang kuliner saat ini sedang hangat dan diminati masyarakat eropa, kenapa kita kita tidak kedepankankan aneka buku kuliner yang kita miliki," ujar Bondan Winarno

dalam jumpa pers, Senin (5/10) siang kemarin di Jakarta.

Namun sesuai sifatnya, makanan dapat lebih dinikmati jika dapat dilihat langsung, dicium aromanya dan dicicip rasanya.

"Nah mumpung kita diberi panggung luas, kita manfaatkan sebaik-baiknya. Jadi kita tampilkan buku serta makanan-makanan," ujar Bondan.

Dalam misi budaya kali ini tim kuliner Indonesia mengedepankan tema "Spice it Up!" dan akan menampilkan sajian dalam beberapa tema. Seperti Gourmet Gallery dimana akan dihadirkan masakan Sumatera hingga Maluku oleh para chef seperti Bara Pattiradjawane, Bondan Winarno dan Janet DeeNeefe.

Messeimpressionen, Tag 5 und 6 Das war sie: die Frankfurter Buchmesse 2015

Eigentlich sind es zwei Buchmessen. Von Mittwoch bis Freitag dominiert das Fachpublikum – am Wochenende dann ein ganz anderes Bild. Alles wird bunter, jünger lauter, hektischer. Väter, die ihren im Gewusel verlorengegangenen Kids hinterherrennen; verkleidete Teenager, die aussehen wie einem Horror-­‐Manga entsprungen; vor Energie sprühende Möchtegern-­‐Autoren, die in strengem Ton den «rororo-­‐Cheflektor» zu sprechen verlangen – vermutlich soll der Buchvertrag gleich hier und heute unterzeichnet werden. Diese zweite Buchmesse macht uns Verlagsleuten genauso viel Spaß wie die erste – vorausgesetzt, wir sind am Messewochenende kräftemäßig nicht schon völlig am Ende. Aber es sind ja nur noch ein paar Stunden ...

Hot and spicy! Indonesien kocht Über 60 indonesische AutorInnen wurden nach Frankfurt eingeladen. Sie repräsentieren die ganze literarische Bandbreite: Lyrik und Romane, Kinderbücher und Comics, Kochbücher und Reisereportagen. Unterstützt als Botschafter indonesischer Kultur werden sie von Starkoch William Wong und fünfzehn weiteren Köchen, die unter demMotto «Spice it up» den Buchmessen-­‐Besuchern Köstliches aus ihrer Heimat anbieten. Willkommen in der Gourmet Gallery auf dem Messegelände und an den original Street Food-­‐Garküchen aus Indonesien!

Mit Sterneköchen zwischen Büchern kochen von Jenny Jäger Was hat eine Gourmet Gallery auf der Frankfurter Buchmesse zu suchen? Dort stehen eigentlich Bücher im Vordergrund und nicht das Essen, Kochen und Backen. Trotzdem befindet sich zwischen Ständen von Verlagen und Pappeterie ein großes Kochstudio. In ihm eine komplette Küche samt Herd, Kühlschrank und Arbeitsflächen, davor einige besetzte Stühle, wie bei einem fachlichen Vortrag. Vor den Augen des Publikums, kochen Starköche und verteilen Autogramme– selbstverständlich in ihre mitgebrachten Kochbücher. Und das ist die Verbindung zwischen Gourmet Gallery und Buchmesse: Das Kochbuch.

Am Samstag, 17. Oktober, bekochten Horst Lichter, Kolja Kleeberg und Steffen Henssler und ein italienischer Koch das Publikum. Nach ihren Kochauftritten signierten die Fernsehköche auch ihre neuen Bücher.

Die Buchmesse als Ort, an dem sich Verlage präsentieren, Werbung für ihre Produkte machen und Aufmerksamkeit erregen – das ist bei Fernsehköchen nicht anders.

In der Gourmet Gallery passiert das Werben nur mit viel Geschmack: Kolja Kleeberg kocht gemeinsam mit dem Publikum eine gelbe Kürbissauce mit Mandeln mit angebratenem Fleisch in Salbei – und ließ sie probieren. Während gebraten und gekocht wurde konnte das Publikum dem Starkoch Fragen stellen.

Als Kolja Kleeeberg zum Beispiel gefragt wurde, wie man die

perfekten Bratkartoffeln macht, lachte er und erzählte, dass ihn schon mal ein Zollbeamter am Flughafen das gleiche gefragt habe. Der Beamte habe Kleeberg so lange durchsucht, bis der Koch ihm die ganze Zubereitung verraten hatte. Auch zu anderen Gerichten gab er einige Tipps. Kleeberg erzählte auch, was er von den momentanen Essens-Trends wie zum Beispiel dem Vegetarismus und dem Veganismus halte: In seinem Restaurant gäbe es zwar vegane und vegetarische Gerichte, aber er selber verzichte nicht auf Fleisch.

Essen und Bücher – das liegt gar nicht so weit auseinander. Und wie in den anderen Teilen der Messe, präsentiert auch dieser die Autoren seiner Werke – Fernsehköche und Starköche.

Indonesien zeigt sich auf der Buchmesse kulturell, kulinarisch und politisch. Kochen ist auch in diesem Jahr einer der Megatrends. Besonders gefragt sind Krimis und Reiseführer, die Geschichte und Reisen mit Essen verbinden.

Indonesien isst scharf. Zum Beispiel Ikan Kuah Kuning, eine gelbe Fischsuppe mit viel Chili, die ein indonesischer Koch in der Show-Küche der Gourmet Gallery zubereitet. Mit großen Schoten, erklärt er dem Publikum auf Deutsch, gibt man sich in Indonesien gar nicht erst ab. „Das ist Spielzeug.“ Lieber nimmt er die kleinen roten, die am schärfsten sind. „Spice it up“, „verleihe dem Essen Würze“ heißt eine Initiative indonesischer Köchinnen und Köche, die auf ihren Heimatinseln bekannt sind, teils im Fernsehen kochen und Bücher veröffentlicht haben. Sie sollen dem Publikum auf der Buchmesse die indonesische Küche näherbringen. Das lässt sich auch optisch gut aufbereiten, mit schönen Schalen voller Chilischoten, Safran oder Anis.

Rushdie kämpft gegen Zensur

„Ein Angriff auf die menschliche Natur“ Eine flammenden Rede für die Meinungsfreiheit hielt der Schriftsteller Salman Rushdie zum Auftakt der Frankfurter Buchmesse. Das Recht auf freie Rede dürfe nicht durch religiöse Intoleranz beschnitten werden. Und auch nicht durch Political Correctness.

Noch nie galten für die Eröffnungs-Pressekonferenz so strenge Sicherheitsauflagen. Das liegt vor allem daran, dass es bisher noch nie einen so wichtigen Gastredner gab wie Salman Rushdie, den britischindischen Autor, der 1989 mit einer Fatwa belegt worden war und jahrelang im Untergrund leben musste. Er weiß, wovon er redet, wenn er zur Meinungsfreiheit aufruft, die insbesondere durch religiöse Intoleranz bedroht sei. „Ohne Meinungsfreiheit gibt es keine anderen Rechte“, betonte er in seiner Rede. „Die Begrenzung der Meinungsfreiheit ist nicht nur Zensur, sie ist ein Angriff auf die menschliche Natur.“ Menschen seien Sprachwesen und existierten, indem sie sich ihre Geschichten erzählten.

So wie die Schriftsteller und Aufklärer im 18. Jahrhundert die Meinungsfreiheit im Kampf gegen die Kirchen errungen hätten, so müssten Schriftsteller, Verleger und Bürger heute die Meinungsfreiheit wieder gegen religiöse Eiferer behaupten.

Meinungsfreiheit ist nicht kulturspezifisch

Auch im Westen gebe es viele Angriffe gegen die Meinungsfreiheit, sagte Rushdie. Einer der Angriffe gehe von dem Streben nach „Political Correctness“ aus. In den Vereinigten Staaten werde darüber diskutiert, ob auf Buchumschlägen die Leser darauf aufmerksam gemacht werden sollten, dass der Inhalt sie beunruhigen könne. Daneben gebe es „eine merkwürdige Allianz zwischen Teilen der europäischen Linken und radikalen Denkern des Islams“. Wenn eine Ideologie sich als Religion bezeichne, werde im Westen die Feindschaft gegen Frauen, Juden und andere unter den Teppich gekehrt. Der größte Angriff gegen die Meinungsfreiheit gehe von der Behauptung westlicher Denker aus, dieses Recht sei kulturell spezifisch und gelte nur in bestimmten Ländern. Rushdie behauptete vehement: „Die Meinungsfreiheit ist universell!“ Literatur und Kunst nehmen die Welt nach den Worten von Rushdie nicht als etwas Gegebenes hin, sondern hinterfragen die Familie, die Politik und die Religion. Deshalb seien die Literatur und die Kunst gefährlich für diejenigen, die die Geschichte kontrollieren wollten. Deshalb verfolgten Diktatoren Schriftsteller. Die Autoren hätten dies selten überlebt, aber ihre Kunst habe die Diktaturen überlebt, so die von Ovid das Römische Reich, die von Ossip Mandelstam den Stalinismus, die von Federico García Lorca den spanischen Faschismus. „Die Literatur ist ein Gemälde der Wirklichkeit“, sagte Rushdie. Er rief dazu auf, die Schriftsteller und ihr Werk zu verteidigen.

Literatur muss stören

Als bekannt wurde, dass Rushdie auf der Pressekonferenz reden sollte, sagte der Iran seine Teilnahme an der Buchmesse ab. Jürgen Boos, Direktor der Buchmesse, betonte, er sei nicht froh über den Boykott. „Denn damit geht einher, dass wir eine weitere Gelegenheit verpassen, uns mit den iranischen Kollegen auszutauschen“, sagte er. „Es gibt den einen zentralen Aspekt der menschlichen Zivilisation, der für mich nicht verhandelbar ist. Das ist die Freiheit des Wortes, die freie Meinungsäußerung. Über alles andere soll man nicht nur, man muss darüber reden.“ Das Beste, was die Branche, was die Literatur in der momentanen Situation tun könne, sei, zu stören, so wie auch Rushdie mit seiner Literatur störe.

Auch die Buchmesse übt sich im Aufbau von Stolpersteinen und dem Abschied von liebgewonnenen Abläufen. Die englischsprachige Welt liegt nicht mehr in zweistelligen Hallen am Ende der Welt, sondern näher am Kern. „Wir wollen mit der Nase darauf stoßen, dass es viele neue Gesprächs- und Geschäftspartner zu entdecken gibt, neue Ideen, Technologien, Chancen“, so Boos. In Halle 3.1 geht es beim „Weltempfang“ international und politisch zu, und auch die GourmetGallery ist keine rein deutschsprachige Veranstaltung mehr.

Die 67. Frankfurter Buchmesse wird am Dienstagabend offiziell eröffnet.

Auf dem weltgrößten Branchentreff werden bis zum 18. Oktober mehr als 7000 Aussteller aus rund 100 Ländern erwartet. Gastland ist Indonesien.

Potenzial im Lizenzgeschäft Wachstum am Main: DieFrankfurter Buchmesse hat in diesem Jahr bei den Besuchern zugelegt. Der Messechef zieht eine euphorische Bilanz: „2015 war die erfolgreichste, geschäftigste Messe seit Jahren. Insgesamt wurden 275.791 Besucher gezählt (Fachbesuchertage: 140.474). Die Messe hat damit im Vergleich zum Vorjahr um 2,3% zugelegt. Auch das Medieninteresse ist gewachsen: Die Zahl der akkreditierten Journalisten und Blogger stieg von 9300 (2014) auf rund 9900 in diesem Jahr.

Die Gourmet Gallery wächst international Mit dem Zusammenschluss der Frankfurter Buchmesse mit der World Cookbook Fair wird die Gourmet Gallery noch größer und internationaler. Im ersten Jahr der Kooperation ist das Ziel schon erreicht: Bisher nehmen

über 80 Aussteller aus mehr als 33 Ländern im 1.000 qm großen Genussareal teil und 50 Veranstaltungen sind schon geplant. Kulinarische Inspiration gibt es unter anderem bei den 30 Master Classes. Unter anderem haben sich diese Starköche angekündigt: Steffen Henssler, Horst Lichter, Tim Raue, Martin Walker, Kolja Kleeberg, Chakall (Argentinien), Chef Wan (Malaysia), Vefa Alexiadou (Griechenland), Martin Walker (UK) und Marlena Spieler (USA). Die Gourmet Gallery ist wieder in Halle 3.1. untergebracht, in der Nähe der Touristikund Kochbuch-Verlage.

Zahlreiche Cooking Veranstaltungen auf der Messe Genussvolle Kochdemos finden auch außerhalb der Gourmet Gallery statt: Eine Übersicht über alle mittlerweile mehr als 50 - Cooking Veranstaltungen gibt es auf der Website der Frankfurter Buchmesse: So kochen z.B. Schüler am 16. Otkober 2015, von 9.00 bis 17.00 Uhr, in Halle 4.2 A86 gemeinsam mit indonesischen Küchenchefs: Im Zentrum stehen die Gewürze des diesjährigen Gastlandes, serviert wird im Klassenzimmer der Zukunft.

Fráncfort abre con Indonesia como invitada y con una pujante Latinoamérica La feria de Francfort, la más grande del mundo en el sector, abrió hoy sus puertas con Indonesia como invitado de honor y con Latinoamérica como presencia pujante.

Sobre el gran escaparate del sector editorial pesan los temas habituales en los últimos años, como el reto de la digitalización, mientras llama la atención la buena evolución del mercado del libro en Latinoamérica.

"Latinoamérica sigue siendo uno de los mercados editoriales más atractivos", apuntó en un artículo publicado en la revista diaria de la muestra la responsable de Europa del Sur y Latinoamérica, Marifé Boix.

Además de las exposiciones colectivas de los países más importantes de la región en el mercado del libro y de los "stands" de los grandes grupos, este año han venido por invitación especial pequeños editores independientes como El Cuervo, de Bolivia, Tablas-Alarcos, de Cuba, o Índole Editores, de El Salvador.

Indonesia ha llevado a Fráncfort una presentación polifacética en la que muestra tanto su literatura -sobre todo su lírica, que se nutre de una rica tradición oral- como otros aspectos de su cultura como la danza o la culinaria.

De hecho, lo primero que encuentra el visitante al entrar al pabellón indonesio es una mesa llena de libros de cocina y, no lejos de ahí, una colección de hierbas y especies utilizadas en la cocina local.

De pronto suena una música y en un escenario, en el que también habrá lecturas o debates, se desarrolla un espectáculo de danza ante el cual muchos de los asistentes dejan de lado los libros que estaban mirando -que van desde cuentos para niños a historias del cine indonesio- para concentrarse en el baile.

Curiosamente, los libros de cocina, según la responsable de una sección de la feria dedicada al tema, Katja Böhne, han resistido el embate de la digitalización.

"No se puede revisar una receta en internet cuando uno está cocinando y tienen las manos untadas de grasa", explicó Böhne a Efe.

La "Gourmet Gallery", la sección de la feria dedicada a libros de cocina, es una de las que más ha crecido este año.

En todo caso, los panoramas apocalípticos que se pintaban hace algunos años -en los que el libro digital iba a terminar siendo la muerte del libro impreso- parecen ser cosa del pasado.

En EEUU la cuota de mercado del libro digital se ha estancado en los últimos años en torno al 20 por ciento. En Alemania, el mercado más grande de Europa, está en torno al 5 por ciento.

Sin embargo, hay libreros en Alemania, como la directora de la cadena de librerías Hugendubel, Nina Hugendubel, que esperan que el libro digital llegue a tener una cuota de mercado del 15 por ciento en Europa.

En los últimos dos años, sin embargo, la facturación de las librerías tradicionales ha crecido más que la facturación del libro electrónico e incluso que las compras de libros impresos por internet.

Todos esos datos tienen su parte negativa y es que el número de lectores en Europa, independientemente del formato que utilicen para leer, crece más lentamente que el número de autores que aprovechan las posibilidades que se han abierto de publicar sin necesariamente tener el respaldo de una editorial.

En general, este año la facturación del sector ha tendido a la baja lo que, sin embargo, según el presidente de la Asociación de Libreros Alemanes, Heinriche Riethmüller, no debe ser motivo de preocupación.

"Con frecuencia la facturación la disparan títulos de éxito extraordinario como la serie de Harry Potter o 'Cincuenta sombras de Grey', Este año no hemos tenido ese tipo de títulos", dijo Riethmüller.

Algo distinto este año es sin duda la crisis de los refugiados. Por una parte, la crisis es tema de algunos de los múltiples debates que se realizarán en la feria hasta el domingo. Por otro lado, la dirección de la feria ha organizado varias acciones para acercar a los refugiados al mundo del libro.

Frankfurter Buchmesse 2015 trekt meer bezoekers dan vorig jaar De organisatie Frankfurter Buchmesse kijkt tevreden terug op de beurs. Zo werden er 2,3 procent meer bezoekers dan vorig jaar ontvangen en is de organisatie blij met de nieuwe indeling van de beursvloer.

Er kwamen dit jaar 275.791 bezoekers naar de Frankfurter Buchmesse, 2,3 procent meer bezoekers dan in 2014. Dat meldt de organisatie in een persbericht. Daarvan waren er 140.474 vakbezoekers. Ook waren dit jaar meer journalisten aanwezig op de beurs: van 9.300 in 2014 naar 9.900 dit jaar. Er waren ruim 7.000 standhouders uit meer dan honderd landen.

Buchmesse-directeur Juergen Boos kijkt in het persbericht met positief gevoel terug op de afgelopen beurs. ‘De nieuwe wijken die zijn ontstaan door de beursvloer opnieuw in te delen, hebben nog meer voor een gevoel van samenhorigheid gezorgd. Tegelijkertijd staan steeds meer mensen open voor nieuwe gebieden in het bedrijfsleven.’ Het was volgens Boos de ‘drukste en meest succesvolle beurs in jaren’.

De nieuwe indeling van de beurs betekende een kleiner oppervlak dan voorgaande jaren maar ook plek voor nieuwe initiatieven. Zo was er dit jaar ruimte voor bijvoorbeeld boekenbloggers om evenementen te organiseren, maar ook voor de mensen die zich met eten en do-it-yourself-trends bezig houden. Zo kwamen er bijvoorbeeld driehonderd bezoekers af op de nieuw Orbanism Space in hal 4.1 om een LovelyBooks-meeting van de gelijknamige blog bij te wonen. Orbanism Space werd tijdens de beurs vooral gebruikt als ontmoetingsplaats voor de digitale industrie.

Boos is tevreden met de nieuwe en thematisch georganiseerde wijken binnen de beurs. ‘De nieuwe Gourmet Gallery bijvoorbeeld, die bewijst hoe effectief communities zichzelf kunnen definiëren op de beurs. Daarnaast laat het zien dat het nieuwe zakelijke activiteiten het oplevert.’

Daarnaast heeft Business Club op de beurs zich ‘opnieuw bewezen als ontmoetingsplaats voor creatieve pionieren en sleutelfiguren in de internationale mediabedrijven, volgens de organisatie

op de Business Club. Er waren 3.200 gasten uit 48 landen en er waren meer dan 150 sprekers uit dertien landen.

De organisatie van de beurs was blij met het publiek van afgelopen weekend, dat zij zich niet hadden laten afschrikken door het koude weer. Het was druk bij de Star Wars Poetry Slam en auteurs als Jenny Erpenbeck trokken veel bezoekers. Zoveel bezoekers dat de ruimte tijdelijk werd afgesloten.

Premiere: Zum ersten Mal war ich jetzt auf der Frankfurter Buchmesse. Zum einen, um mir als Bloggerin anzusehen, was es bald an interessanten Kochbüchern zu kaufen gibt, zum anderen, um als Ein-Frau-Selbstverlag mit Onlinedruckereien, Buchvermarktern und Buchgrossisten zu sprechen. Beides fand ich höchst interessant!

Das beginnt schon mit den spektakulären Messehallen (siehe oben Halle drei mit der „Gourmet Gallery“) und den ebenso beeindruckenden Menschenmengen, die sich durch die Gänge schieben.

Darunter waren auch viele junge Leute in, ähem, seltsamen Verkleidungen – sogenannte Cosplayer und Manga-Fans, die Fantasy- und Comicfiguren verkörpern. Die haben im Rahmen der Buchmesse sogar ihre eigene Convention und Meisterschaft – wieder was dazu gelernt als Landei.

Für mich persönlich interessanter waren da allerdings Lesungen wie die von Dominique Horwitz (Foto unten links) und erst recht Kochevents mit Bloggerkolleginnen wie Barbara von Ein Topf Heimat und Claudia (Dinner um acht). Dass Barbara mit ihrer Nasi-Variation das kulinarische Blogevent des Buchmesse-Partnerlandes Indonesien gewonnen hat, finde ich hochverdient – sie ist eine wirklich großartige Kennerin der Landesküche.

Von Indonesien quer über den Pazifik in die USA: Natürlich habe ich bei den Kochbuchverlagen auch einige neue Titel für kulinarische USA-Fans entdeckt, die ich hoffentlich von den Verlagen noch als Rezensionsexemplare bekomme, damit ich sie euch vorstellen kann. Darunter United States of Cakes (Christian-Verlag), Amerika – das Kochbuch (Dorling-Kindersley), Junk Food – aber richtig (Edel) und Texas BBQ von Hädecke. Ich freue mich schon darauf, das alles zu lesen und Rezepte testzukochen!

EVENTS, VERANSTALTUNGEN

Mein Besuch auf der Frankfurter Buchmesse 2015 Ihr habt es vielleicht schon mitbekommen (bei Instagram oder auf meiner Facebook-Seite): ich durfte die Frankfurter Buchmesse noch vor den beiden öffentlichen Tagen am Wochenende besuchen. Wer das auch einmal möchte und Blogger oder Journalist ist: Einfach auf der Seite der Buchmesse akkreditieren lassen (okay, jetzt erst wieder nächstes Jahr...).

Für mich hieß es also am Freitagmorgen um 6.30 Uhr ab ins Auto mit mit Mann und Kind nach Frankfurt (die sich dort anderweitig vergnügt haben). Brrrrr, war das dunkel und kalt. Auf der Messe war ich mit Tobi (dem Kuchenbäcker) verabredet.

Gemeinsam haben wir uns ins Getümmel gestürzt. Als Tobi früher weg musste, habe ich mich mit anderen Bloggern getroffen oder bin alleine über die riesige Messe gebummelt. Langweilig war mir definitiv nicht!

Mein Schwerpunkt lag auf den Hallen 3.0 und 3.1 - denn da gab es überwiegend die Koch- und Backbücher. Die Halle 4 habe ich auch kurz besucht.

Obwohl nicht so viel los war wie vermutlich am öffentlichen Wochenende, war ich erst mal wie erschlagen von den vielen Ständen! So viel gab es zu entdecken - teilweise wusste ich nicht, wo ich zuerst hinschauen sollte. Einfach Wahnsinn!

Aber in erster Linie zog es mich zu der Veranstaltung, weil ich endlich einmal die liebe Sugarprincess Yushka kennenlernen wollte. Und dank Facebook wusste ich, dass sie dort sein würde. Sonst ist es auf der riesigen Messe echt schwer, jemanden rein zufällig zu treffen ohne Treffpunkt.

Eine Einladung zur Buchpräsentation von Aurélie hatte ich auch vom Verlag erhalten. Ach, ist das eine herzliche und liebe Person!!

In der Gourmet Gallery gab es immer wieder Vorführungen, die man kostenlos besuchen konnte.

Dort wurde gekocht, gebacken oder aus Büchern vorgelesen.

Eigentlich wollte ich bis zum bitteren Ende um 18.30 Uhr auf der Messe bleiben. Aber um 17.00 Uhr war ich fix und fertig.

Alles in allem war es aber ein sehr schöner Tag - im nächsten Jahr bin ich definitiv wieder dabei!!!

E pricepută, nu glumă! Zilele trecute, Laura Cosoi (33 de ani) a fost prezentă în Germania, unde şi-a demonstrat din nou talentul culinar.

Actriţa le-a făcut nemţilor o demonstraţie gastronomică la Târgul de Carte de la Frankfurt, cel mai mare din lume, şi nu s-a întors de acolo cu mâna goală, ci cu un trofeu important. „La categoria Television Europe, dintre toate cărţile înscrise în ultimii 20 de ani, volumul meu, «Rămâi la Masă?» (apărut la editura “Curtea Veche”), a ocupat în preferinţele juriului locul al doilea!

Jest nam niezmiernie miło poinformować, że wydana przez Hanami książka Magdaleny Tomaszewskiej-­‐Bolałek pt. "Japońskie słodycze" zdobyła trzecie miejsce i została uznana za jedną z trzech najważniejszych publikacji o kuchni japońskiej wydanych na świecie w latach 1994-­‐2014.

Tym samym stała się najważniejszą publikacją o kuchni japońskiej wydaną poza Japonią (pierwsze dwa miejsca należą do książek japońskich).

Frankfurt (ANTARA News) - Visitors to the Frankfurt Book Fair are greeted by images of aromatic spices, mouth-watering desserts and beaming chefs as cookbooks, once a niche segment, take the publishing world by storm.

"Twenty years ago, cookbooks were hidden, cookbooks were not respected," said Edouard Cointreau, president of the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards.

"You had to be specialist and if you were specialised, you never went very far in a big publishing house."

But nowadays "people need comfort in a world that has become more and more difficult with crises. And cookbooks are one of the ways to be happy.

Cookbooks are to dream, to feel good, to travel," Cointreau said.

In the sprawling exhibition halls hosting the worlds biggest book fair until Sunday, the Gourmet Gallery is dedicated exclusively to cooking, with recipe books on display from all over the world, AFP reported.

French cuisine maestro Alain Ducasse.

Cookbooks are a runaway success in almost every corner of the world, including Iran.

"Five years ago, our market was not like that, but now, cookbooks are more popular in Iran," said chef Samira Janatdoust, presenting her own books despite Tehrans boycott of the fair sparked by an appearance from BritishIndian writer Salman Rushdie, author of "The Satanic Verses".

In such a crowded global market, it is often difficult to stand out.

Sofia Piqueras, an artist from Barcelona, offers eye-catching one-off editions with handmade covers decorated with aromatic herbs and spices.

"There are definitely trends emerging all over the world," said Pixie Shields, international rights director at Marabout (Hachette Livre), one of the big players in the sector.

Particularly en vogue at the moment are books on healthy eating, on vegetarian and vegan cooking and recipes for kale dishes or green smoothies.

People tend to go for brightly presented books, full of photos, which they can show off in their kitchen and leaf through occasionally, said Shields.

For most people, cookbooks are like glossy fashion magazines.

"Statistically, people cook between one and three recipes from a book," she said.

Cointreau said, "The annual market for cookbooks is estimated at around $6 billion and is growing at between 3-5%, with television programs the prime growth driver. The market is also still very much for printed rather than electronic books. But growth can vary from country to country. In France, for example, the market appears to be running out of steam, at least for now."

Specialist magazine Livres Hebdo said, "Around 1,760 new cookbooks or new editions appeared in 2014, which represented a stagnation compared with previous year, after the segment had notched up consistent growth between 2006 and 2012. In Germany, books on food and drink make up around 28% of sales of what are generally classified as guide or instruction books. But that proportion has also remained unchanged for the past two years, after growing consistently in the preceding years."

The Gourmet Gallery at the Frankfurt Book Fair is home to cookbook exhibits, cooking demonstrations, and–most fun of all–samples and taste tests. Though when left to my own devices I focus on novels while I am at the fair, on Friday I met up with Christie, the food blogger behind A Sausage Has Two, who convinced me to check out more of the Fair’s food events.

The Gourmet Gallery isn’t the only area where cookbooks, food, and chefs are displaying their many talents–many of the country-hosted stands feature edible demonstrations as well.

The first event we attended was a demonstration by Dato’ Chef Ismail Ahmad, who showed us how to make a spicy Malaysian salad with shrimp and bean sprouts.

It. Was. Delicious.

Afterwards, I ran off to another book event, while Christie remained with Chef Ismail for a lunch‌but the event I had planned to attend wasn’t happening, or was happening somewhere else, and instead ended up catching the end of a readying by German fantasy author Kai Meyer:

While the Lesezelt where it took place was impressive, I am not a big fan of readings, and soon the siren call of the Gourmet Gallery had me sitting in another cooking demonstration with a cookbook author.

After taste-testing a wonderful chicken curry, spices were passed around for the audience to smell while Janet DeNeefe told us about their uses and her life as an Australian-Bali transplant.

But my favorite event of all was a cooking demonstration by Bondan Winarno and an assistant, author of 100 Best Street Food of Indonesia. Onstage they created three dishes: a green crepe with a sweet coconut filling, a spicy tuna fry, and a raw tuna salad–each more delectable than the last. While I may not be able to find all of the ingredients they used, I

can’t wait to try to re-create some of the things I tried that day. One taste was most certainly not enough.

I was so glad that I had taken a second to move my Book Fair focus off of books and onto food. If you attend the Frankfurt Book Fair, I highly recommend you do the same, if only for one event. Thing is, once you start tasting the things the visiting chefs have whipped up, you’ll never want to leave.

This wasn't a carnival, but came close to it in spirit - especially when Obelix and Asterix greeted visitors in person. Fictional characters huddled together were engaged in intense conversations. Captain James Hook, the legendary 18th century navigator, Disney's Anastasia and Lady Loki from Marvel Comics squatted on the floor, while the wilder and more ferocious animal-like creatures - half of whom seemed to have landed from some alien planet - walked around stealthily sporting placards which read - "free hugs".

The Sahitya Akademi - in the eye of a storm in India as writers return awards protesting against what they see as a growing climate of intolerance back home in India - would have been happy with the hugs. An impressive stall invited people to browse through books at the Frankfurt Book Fair at the Festalle fair grounds.

Spread over 96,000 square metres, the Frankfurter Buchmesse, the most political and yet most youthful event held every year in Frankfurt, wound up on October 18. The five-day fair, into its 67th year, was a blockbuster, intellectual event.

Not without reason. Hailed as the international publishing industry's largest trade fair in the world, it did some serious business this year. A total of 7,200 exhibitors from 104 countries, 9,900 journalists, 1,400 accredited bloggers, an average footfall of 2,75,791 general visitors on the weekend and 1,40,474 on the first three trade-visitor days accounted for its grand success.

India, which has been taking part in the fair for the past 43 years, was among the participants. It has twice been a guest of honour - in 1986 and 2005.

"The National Book Trust (NBT), India, under the ministry of human resource development, is mandated to promote Indian publishing abroad," said Kanchan Wanchoo Sharma, assistant director, NBT. For the past few years, NBT and Sahitya Akademi have been showcasing their collections together in a single stall that sees a good number of visitors, mostly curious about Indian regional literature, yoga, ayurveda and spiritualism.

This year there were about 70 Indian publishers and booksellers of which 25 related to children's literature - a very successful genre at the book fair - while the rest covered digital media, niche publishers and regional publishers. Karadi Tales, Niyogi Books, Ananda Publishers Private Limited, Mapin Publishing, were all well represented.

"Publishers of some standing wouldn't want to miss this fair despite the fact that participation is expensive as the daily average expense amounts to nearly Rs 1 lakh," said S.K. Khurana, editor-publisher of All About Book Publishing, a bi-monthly magazine on the book publishing industry of India.

There was another reason Indian participants were a trifle excited. Frankfurter Buchmesse serves as a prelude to the World Book Fair which is to be held in New Delhi's Pragati Maidan in January 2016. "It is the largest international book fair in the Afro-Asian region which will see the participation of 1,200 publishers and booksellers across an area of 40,000 square metres. China will be the guest of honour," said Sharma with pride. "So we also use this platform to advertise our book fair in India."

Indonesia, which was the guest of honour this year at Frankfurt, had a large representation in all spheres under the theme "Words, images, myths, movements and Indonesia: 17,000 islands of imagination".

The largest international trading hub for content worldwide, Frankfurt Book Fair is the most significant business-to-business network in its field, hosting interactions among all involved: the players in the international rights trade; providers of technology and content; traditional publishers and start-ups. At the same time, it also connects everyone who has anything to do with content, literature and storytelling, Katja Bรถhne, in charge of marketing and communications at the fair, pointed out.

"We call it the book fair but over the years it has transformed into a content fair," Bรถhne said.

"Anyone who produces, processes, distributes or markets content is part of this fair."

Frankfurter Buchmesse is one place where the serious and comic, political and social, flow into one another. If Salman Rushdie set the tone at the outset in his inimitable style by delivering the inaugural lecture on freedom of speech and expression, Juergen Boos, director of the book fair, brought it to a close with his observation, "There is no superior idea and no superior culture. Rather, it is our task to engender respect, one for the other."

But the recurrent theme of the fair was understandably Border Lines with the migrant crisis looming large in the European mind. "The world is in turmoil," Heinrich Riethmüller, head of the German Publishers and Booksellers Association, said in his opening speech. "What we see today in Europe - as expressed most clearly in the form of hundreds of thousands of refugees - is the battle between the religions, the imbalance between rich and poor, between those persecuted and those who are safe, those who are imprisoned and those who are free... They come to Europe in search of freedom, peace and the right to live a dignified life."

The world, he added, was in need of tolerance. "In this realm, books make a central contribution. Literature opens the door to language, knowledge and culture. Literature makes understanding possible - between people, nations and natures."

The venues and exhibition areas for new communities added to the overall dynamic.

Bloggers on books, food and do-it-yourself trends and self-publishing authors held their own events, enhancing the world of publishing both as creators and consumers.

And, of course, it wasn't just about books either. Strategically located back massage corners, wine hangouts, park-like settings for tired souls and the new international Gourmet Gallery lent variety, as did stalls handing out wool that could be knitted by visitors into caps or scarves meant to be given away to the refugees.

As the curtain came down on the last day, social and business culture, comic and the serious went hand in hand. The Guest Scroll, an art object specially created for the Frankfurt Book Fair, was handed over to Flanders & the Netherlands, guest of honour 2016. Next year, the grounds will have another story to tell.

Gaza Feast: Palestinian celebrity chef comes to Frome

Laila el-Haddad is the co-author of The Gaza Kitchen: A Palestinian Culinary Journey, which the world-renowned Yotam Ottolenghi calls “a great book”. Laila is on her way to the Frankfurt Book Fair to promote her latest book, Gaza Unsilenced.

The images we associate with Gaza are of misery and desolation. Massive destruction caused by Israeli blitzkriegs, people struggling to live amid the ruins, world leaders still reluctant to hold Israel to account or to help Gaza rebuild. Much less is said about Gaza’s cultural heritage, deep-rooted and sustaining, that underpins its peoples’ resistance. And at the heart of it all is food. Palestinians speak of cuisine with reverence, even urgency.

Das Buchmessefieber ist abgeklungen. Die Nachwirkungen verdaut. Eine Woche habe ich gebraucht, um das alles Revue passieren zu lassen. Es ist jedesmal als spränge ich in eine Brandung, lasse mich zwei Tage lang durchschütteln und krieche dann wieder zurück an den Strand des Ist-Zustandes. Aber ich will sie festhalten, all diese wunderbaren Begegnungen mit den tollen Menschen dort.

Backstage, die After hours, das wilde Kochen in leeren Hallen, das Kochen in der Showküche – all das hat diese Buchmesse für mich unvergesslich gemacht.

Köche und Kochen aus aller Welt Fernsehköche, Starköche, Küchenchefs und Blogger – in der Gourmet Gallery gaben sie sich alle die Töpfe in die Hand. Indonesien ist stark vertreten doch auch Mittel- und Südamerika macht sich stark. Bekannte und weniger bekannte Gesichter.

Showkochen „Streetfood & Sambal“ Einen Tag vor der großen Show checkte ich die Lage. Wurde alles richtig eingekauft, gab es Beschaffungsprobleme, die kurzfristig gelöst werden mussten? Die gab es in der Tat. Nicht, dass nicht alles perfekt für Barbaras Nasi „Lesefutter“ richtig eingekauft wurde, es war nur plötzlich verschwunden. Einer der vielen Köche aus Indonesien hatte es wohl irrtümlich als seine Zutaten identifiziert und schon waren sie weg. Kein Problem, meinte Martin, mein allerliebster Showküchen-Koordinator, das kriegen wir alles bis morgen besorgt. Ich bin die Ruhe selbst.

Ein Taxi brachte am nächsten Morgen die Bestellung und alles war wieder gut. Die Garnelenpaste war da, die Chilis und so weiter. Doch kurz nach Mittag war alles schon wieder verschwunden. Wieder wurde es irrtümlich von den anderen Köchen eingepackt. Wer es war – es herrschte Schweigen. Keiner hatte es bemerkt. Es war keine böser Wille – das Zeug war einfach weg. Spätestens zu diesem Zeitpunkt beschließe ich, dass sollten die Waren ein drittes Mal beschafft werden, ich mich mit Sicherheit darauf setzen werde. Oder ich binde sie mir um. Ich erzähle Barbara, der Siegerin meines Blog Events, am besten erst einmal nichts davon.

Und dann waren sie plötzlich wieder beschafft. Schweißperlen und Erleichterung.

Die Show kann beginnen. Souverän hat Barbara alles im Griff. Wir müssen die Zeit straffen, wir haben nur eine dreiviertel Stunde. Vertraute Gesichter im Publikum. Wie wunderbar. Ein Martini auf euch, all ihr, die ihr gekommen seid uns anzufeuern und mit uns zu feiern. Danke dir Barbara, es war großartig mit dir zu kochen.

After Hours Cooking Fun und seltsame Zutaten Die Hallen sind geschlossen. José aus Honduras und Roland aus Südtirol wollen jetzt loslegen. Endlich. Kochen. Freestyle. Geben sollte es ein „Lomo Saltado“ – geworden ist es ein Nudelgelage, das uns glücklich machte, Quinoa Puffer, mit allerfeinstem Avocado-Mango Salat und frisch geröstete Kakaobohnen mit Feigen.

Das alles zwischen Büchern. Mitten auf der Messe. Zur Nacht, wo ansonsten nur die Standwachen die Hallen bevölkern. An mehr oder minder passenden Getränken bestand kein Mangel. Yeah! Und wieder einmal wurde bewiesen – keine Sprache der Welt bringt mehr Menschen zusammen als das gemeinsame Kochen.

fremdländischen Entdeckungen. Auch wenn ein Großteil der Bücher noch immer dem veganen Ernährungstrend huldigt und die Craft-Bier-Wurst- und Fleisch Fraktion tapfer dagegen hält, so habe ich dennoch so einige Bücher entdeckt, die mein Herz eroberten.

View point: Frankfurt Book Fair: Indonesian authors on fire!

What comes to people’s mind when they hear the name “Indonesia”?

In the past it was Islamic extremist terrorism, currently it’s Indonesia’s gigantic forest fires that are contributing to global warming, featuring 94,192 fires in 2015 and costing US$1.4 billion in damage so far.

But in mid-October, in Frankfurt at least, the forest fires were temporarily forgotten, and the figures presented from Indonesia were cause for celebration, not commiseration. It starts with the number 17,000 — islands of imagination that is, the title of Indonesia as guest of honor (GOH) at the Frankfurt Book Fair (FBF), which ran from Oct. 14 to 18.

More than 70 writers, presented in 500 events, covering a vast range of topics: poetry, short stories, novels, science fiction, history, politics, traditional and contemporary arts, children’s books, comics and cookbooks.

Besides books, there were music and dance performances, art works, photographic exhibitions and film shows, spread out in the two main venues at the Indonesian Pavilion and the Indonesian National Stand, as well as at other venues in Frankfurt and other cities.

As Jürgen Boos, the director of the FBF said, “[…] never before has Indonesia shown so many diverse facets […] visitors to the book fair will take home a completely new impression of this exciting country, far removed from all the classic stereotypes.”

While it’s true that Indonesia has a centuries old story telling tradition, and a multifaceted literary culture, as Goenawan Mohamad, chairman of the GOH Organizing Committee pointed out, Indonesia’s book collection was “skinny” compared with other Asian countries such as China, India and Japan.

So was it to make up for this “skinniness” that Indonesian cuisine was featured very prominently at the FBF? Not just books on Indonesian cuisine, but dishes from around the archipelago.

In fact the culinary team was the “fattest” team, and apparently the biggest culinary team ever to be sent abroad by the Indonesian government. So with Indonesia as the guest of honor, the Frankfurt Book Fair this year also became the Frankfurt Food Fair.

If you’ve got it, flaunt it, right? Well, at least no one can deny that Indonesia has a wonderful culinary tradition.

It’s true that being guest of honor at the world largest biggest trade fair for books is an amazing platform for Indonesia, possibly a once in a lifetime opportunity (see “Indonesia: 17,000 islands of imagination”, by Ahmad Fuadi, The Jakarta Post Oct. 17).

The importance of the event for the Indonesian government can also be seen from the size of the budget allocated for the event: Rp 147 billion (US$10.97 million).

So obviously we prepared well in advance right?

Well no, in fact, I got the impression that it was all rather disorganized and chaotic, many last minute preparations.

Even the per diems for the writers came in only five days after we arrived in Frankfurt. Hello?

The final evaluation will come much later — both the general one to create a broader and deeper knowledge of Indonesia, as well as the specific aim of negotiating international published rights and licensing fees for translated works by Indonesian authors.

I was one of the lucky ones to be invited to Frankfurt. It could not have been an easy process to select a relative few authors out of the many Indonesia has. I imagine there were many who should have been part of the Indonesian delegation but were not selected, while there were others who were less deserving who were.

At least the age range was well represented: from 8-year-old Nadia to several authors in their 80s.

There were also the inevitable controversies about certain authors given a lot of exposure as a result of their “connections” with those having decision-making powers, but the protests subsided and the show went on.

In the end, one has to focus on the positive aspects of the event, of which there were many.

For me personally I was excited to have the possibility of meeting other Indonesian authors who I would otherwise never have met. I shared a room with Asma Nadia, a prolific jilbab-wearing 43year-old novelist and short-story writer, who set up Forum Lingkar Pena, founded to encourage and help young writers to develop their craft and publish their works.

I rode the U-Bahn (German underground train) and chatted with Tere Liye, the pen name of Dawis, a science-fiction fantasy writer (who still keeps his day job as an accountant). I exchanged many Whatsapp messages with Trinity, a productive travel writer. And of course I met many old friends some of whom I had not met in decades.

For me it was not just a reunion, but an opening up of my horizons to the Indonesian literary world. Now I realize how much homework I have to do upon my return to Indonesia.

I hope that the organizers of future international events will also do their homework. There is a tendency for outsiders, particularly Westerners, to focus on just a few writers that they already know. For example, for a long time it seemed that Pramoedya Ananta Toer was the only good writer Indonesia had.

The fact that he was a “prisoner of conscience” helped. There is a tendency for the West to focus on writers who are or were persecuted, or on women authors who focus on “taboo topics” like sex.

It has to do with certain stereotypes — albeit unconscious — that the West has about Indonesians —perhaps about Asians in general — as “The Other”.

Let’s hope that next time round, when you hear the words “Indonesian author”, many more names will come to mind who can serve to further debunk the stereotypes the world may have of the mysterious, curious, exciting nation that is Indonesia. __________________________

Obras de gastronomía del Perú y de Honduras, se exhiben en la Feria Internacional del libro de Frankfurt

El gobierno de Honduras y el Embajador del Perú, Guillermo Gonzales Arica inauguraron el stand Diplomacia Gastronómica con Cooperación, en la Feria Internacional del libro de Frankfurt.

El acto contó con la presencia de los Embajadores del Perú en Alemania, Hans Meier y de Honduras en dicho país, Ramón Custodio Espinoza.

El stand, instalado y abierto en la Galería Gourmet forma parte de la gran feria anual e internacional del libro en Frankfurt y difunde la Diplomacia Gastronómica con Cooperación, realizada por la misión diplomática peruana en Honduras.

El chef hondureño José Luis Escalante y la chef de la Embajada del Perú en Honduras Nathalie Torres participan también en Frankfurt del trabajo de difusión de la Diplomacia Gastronómica con Cooperación realizada por la misión diplomática peruana en Honduras y liderada por el Embajador Gonzales Arica.

Los libros que están en exhibición en el stand son: Perú Honduras, la Mesa nuestra, cocina fusión y diplomacia gastronómica, segunda edición bilingue, premiado por el Gourmand 2015 en el primer puesto

de la Categoría de Embajadas; Manual de Diplomacia Gastronómica, edición en inglés.

Dicho libro describe el programa de capacitación en gastronomía peruana brindado en Honduras por la Embajada del Perú.

Cocina fusión de Copan y de los Andes, se presenta por primera vez y une las gastronomías de la zona maya de Honduras y de la región andina del Perú; todos ellos de autoría del Embajador Gonzales Arica.

Los libros mencionados reflejan la metodología y el impacto económico de una estrategia de diplomacia gastronómica con cooperación ejecutada por la Embajada del Perú en Honduras desde diciembre del 2013, que ha permitido capacitar en las técnicas de cocina fusión peruana, a 1044 hondureños en 17 de los 18 departamentos de Honduras.

La Feria del libro de Frankfurt es considerada la más importante del mundo y este año se calcula que asistirán medio millón de personas.

Entre postres sabrosos, verduras apetitosas y chefs con sonrisas de oreja a oreja, la Feria del Libro de Francfort, Alemania, encumbró las obras de cocina, una apuesta segura que se extiende

ciertamente como la pólvora.

"Hace 20 años, los libros de cocina estaban escondidos y eran sólo para expertos”, pero ahora "la gente necesita consuelo en un mundo lleno de crisis y los libros de cocina son una forma de estar alegre, de soñar, de viajar”, explica Edouard Cointreau, especialista del sector y presidente de los Gourmand World Cookbook Awards.

Francfort, la principal cita mundial del libro, le reservó este año un espacio más grande, bautizado Gourmet Gallery. En él se pueden encontrar recopilaciones culinarias del mundo entero, tanto rusas como indonesias, o los secretos del chef Alain Ducasse. También la cocina de Gaza, al lado de los manuales gastronómicos de Israel.

Entusiasmo en Irán El frenesí por los libros de recetas se ha extendido a casi todos los países, entre ellos Irán. "Hace cinco años no era así, pero ahora se ha hecho popular tener libros de cocina”, explica la chef Samira Janatdust.

Esta chef acudió a presentar sus libros pese a la decisión de Teherán de boicotear este año el salón de Francfort debido a la presencia del escritor británico Salman Rushdie, blanco en 1989 de una fetua por su novela Los versos satánicos.

Conseguir destacar en este revoltijo es todo un desafío. La barcelonesa Sofía Piqueras propone hacer piezas únicas, que decora con tapetes hechos a mano y colores realizados con especias o hierbas aromáticas.

Hay tendencias que se generalizan. Los libros de cocina sana y vegetariana tienen el viento en popa. La editorial Marabout cuenta con uno de zumos verdes y otro sobre la col verde rizada que gozan de gran acogida.

La gente también quiere libros bonitos para exhibir en sus cocinas u hojear de vez en cuando, a los que van añadiendo otros a medida que evoluciona su estética, explica Pixie Shields, una responsable de Marabout, uno de los pesos pesados del sector.

"Es como una revista de moda bonita” pero "estadísticamente cocinan dos o tres recetas del libro”, reconoce Pixie Shields.

Entre las otras tendencias, Edouard Cointreau destaca las obras temáticas, cada vez más específicas (como las de pastelería, cocción y especialidades regionales, los libros de iniciación para los niños o los autoeditados). El mercado de los libros de cocina avanza gracias al estímulo de la televisión y las páginas web. Se centra en la versión papel, con pocas páginas digitales, y progresa entre 3% y 5% por año, de acuerdo con el especialista, que lo cifra en unos 6.000 millones de dólares.

Pero hay altibajos en función de los países. En Francia, por ejemplo, se estancó en los últimos años, al igual que en Alemania, aunque aquí sigue representando las mayores ventas dentro de los llamados libros de ayuda.

Am ales sa fac salata de sparanghel crud cu parmezan si muguri de pin, dar si ”sa rezolv”, impreuna cu cei din public, cubul Rubik, cat timp ciocanelele de pui erau la cuptor.

Ei bine, pentru cele doua retete (salata si cub) aveam nevoie de sparanghel crud si pepene rosu, ingrediente pe care insa nu le-am gasit nicaieri, in tot Frankfurt-ul! Si uite cum, alergand prin supermarket-uri, a trebuit sa gasesc o alta solutie pentru retetele mele. Am ajuns la targ si pentru ca organizatorii m-au vazut “plouata”, au incercat sa rezolve problema! Intre timp, am pregatit pentru editori o pasta de ton mixata cu mirodenii, le-am povestit despre pasiunea mea pentru gatit, despre calatoriile care ma inspira, despre lumea filmului, despre volumul “Ramai la masa?”, dar si despre premiul Gourmand “Best In The World”. Intre timp, am pus la cuptor ciocanele de pui cu bere neagra si stafide, am mai facut o gluma, i-am invitat pe cei din public sa ma ajute sa construiesc cubul Rubik (feta, kiwi si in loc de pepene rosu am folosit sfecla rosie) si, cand eram in plin proces al creatiei, a ajuns sub nasul meu sparanghelul crud! Vai, ce fericire m-a cuprins! Am reusit astfel sa le fac si salata cu sparanghel crud , care a fost “hit-ul” momentului si m-am amuzat teribil cu cei prezenti de intamplare! Dupe ce leam povestit despre retele mele si dupa ce i-am invitat sa viziteze Romania am degustat impreuna preparatele!

A iesit un eveniment foarte frumos si numarul mare al editorilor si jurnalistilor a impresionat organizatorii. Eu m-am simtit foarte bine si nu am suficiente cuvinte sa-i multumesc lui Cosmin ca este tot timpul alaturi de mine, ca ma sustine si ma ajuta atat de mult! A fost o experienta memorabila si ma bucur ca am avut sansa sa reprezint Romania! Sunt tare mandra ca sunt romanca!

– EN – I’m back to tell you all about the live cooking show I thought up for the presentation of my culinary diary “Will You Stay For Dinner?”.

I chose the theme “Red Carpet in My Kitchen” in order to make myself perfectly understood – I am not a real chef. I prepared a reel video illustrating some of the things I do, from a professional standpoint. I assembled film clips from the movies I starred in, making-of’s, videos and many other stuff. The video was presented on a screen, to the public.

Of all the participants at the fair, of all the authors, only a few have had the privilege of making a cooking demostration and I was one of them, due to the “Best in the World – Best Tv Chef Book Europe” Award presented to me by Gourmand. This demonstration was addressed directly to the publishers present there from all over the world, hunting for copyrights, the fair being a closed circuit during the first days and opened to the public only on Saturday and Sunday! I thought to prepare something light and sophisticated at the same time, so I decided to make a raw asparagus salad with Parmesan cheese and pine nuts, and to “solve”, along with the audience, the Rubik’s Cube, while the chicken drumsticks were in the oven.

However, in order to make the two recipes (the salad and the cube) I needed raw asparagus and watermelon, ingredients that we didn’t seem to be able to find anywhere in Frankfurt! Thus, while running from one supermarket to another I had to come up with another solution for my recipes. Upon arriving at the fair, the organizers saw me looking a bit disheartened and so offered to try and fix the problem! Meanwhile, I prepared a tuna paste mixed with spices for the editors and told them about my passion for cooking, the journeys that inspire me, the world of movies, and also about my book “Will You Stay For Dinner?” and the Gourmand “Best In The World” Award.

Meanwhile, I put the chicken drumsticks with black beer and raisins in the oven, cracked some jokes, invited those in the audience to help me build the Rubik’s Cube (feta, kiwi, and beetroot instead of watermelon) and, while I was in full creative process, the raw asparagus appeared right under my nose! Oh, wasn’t I happy! Thus, I managed to make the raw asparagus salad, which was the “hit” of the moment, while laughing with the

audience about the whole story! After I told them about my recipes and invited them to visit Romania, we tried the dishes together!

All in all, the event came out really well and the large numbers of editors and journalists in attendance impressed the organizers! I had a wonderful time and haven’t got enough words to thank Cosmin for always being by my side, supporting and helping me so much! It was a memorable experience and I am glad I had the chance to represent Romania! I am so proud to be Romanian!

By Alicia Maher On October 15th, at the Frankfurt Book Fair in Germany, my cookbook “Delicious El Salvador” won First Cookbook “Best In The World” in 20 years of Gourmand Awards! In the world of cookbooks, the Gourmand Awards, founded by Edouard Cointreau, are considered the highest international recognition for chefs, authors and publishers. This is a historical event for El Salvador, I am the first Salvadoran to bring “two gold medals” to El Salvador’s traditional homecooking, my first victory was last year in Beijing. I have always said that Salvadoran food is delicious, complex in flavors and aromas. Now the world is paying attention. I am proud to be the Culinary Ambassador for El Salvador. Long live Pupusas!
