Strolling downtown Punda through Windstraat, you will find one of Curaçao’s hidden gems; POPCULTR is known for its delicious and refreshing handmade popsicles with 100% fresh fruit.
What inspired you to start this business?
It all started from an idea I had when I was studying overseas and trying out new cuisines; Mexican cuisines to be exact. ”Paletas” is the Mexican version of our local “Palu Friu”... except that “paletas” are made from real ingredients and fresh fruits and I immediately thought that it would be amazing to introduce them in Curaçao.
POPCULTR is a cool name. Can you tell us more about your business name?
Thank you!!! POPCULTR was simply born of the idea that we should live our lives to the fullest... creating an impact in the world, one person at a time... Everything that we do in life inspires someone, good or bad... I just choose to inspire others the best way I can (through POPs) and hopefully, create a culture (hence CULTR).
What are the flavors of the popsicles, and why did you choose those specifically?
We have so many, I’ll just mention a few. Cookies N Cream, Kiwi-Strawberry, Raspberry Lime, Passion Fruit, Strawberry - Mango, Blueberry Cheesecake. I just wanted to have flavors that were refreshing; flavors that you wouldn’t think of finding in a popsicle.
What made POPCULTR popular in Curaçao?
I don’t know; I would like to think that it is because we strive for fresh and high quality ingredients on a regular basis and provide a great customer service and customer experience. But you should ask our customers why they enjoy their time at POPCULTR.
What other products does POPCULTR make besides popsicles?
We also make Fresh Lemonades with REAL LEMONS, yeah the yellow ones; we are tweaking our smoothies recipes to add those as well and there is more to come.
Why did you choose downtown Punda as your store location?
I kept hearing that Punda is boring. I’ll be honest, nothing will change unless you make a change towards it. So if you see something that you don’t like, stop nagging about it. So I just chose to “be the change that you want to see”.
What is the key to success as an entrepreneur on a small island like Curaçao?
Stop copying everyone’s business! Find something that’s missing or lacking on the island and create your own and just make it better and provide an even better product. More importantly, always have the mindset of “How would I want
to be treated as a customer”. Plan your day, be efficient with your time. Entrepreneurship is not for the weak, it’s very mental as well. There will be great days and bad days. It is okay to look back sometimes to see how far you’ve come and grown, and be grateful, but keep pushing forward to all the visions and plans that you’ve set for yourself and the business for the future.
What advice would you give someone who wants to start a business?
Write everything down, create a vision board. I remember one of my teachers said this and it stuck to me forever: “The greatest ideas are buried in the cemetery”. So many ideas are not fulfilled because we are either too afraid to start or don’t know how to start. I believe that writing down your ideas will stir up something in you and will build your passion for your ideas and vision. You are going to make mistakes, like every millionaire and billionaire or any successful entrepreneur did before you. So stop doubting yourself and just make the leap... DO IT! The hardest part, truly, is to START! Once you have passed that stage, there is NO STOPPING YOU!
Tell us EXCLUSIVELY, what are POPCULTR’s plans?
The plan is to continue expanding and bringing happiness to everyone through our products, one day at a time.
Proud Entrepreneur

xX Cover Story
B’Jay is a popular local urban artist who rose to prominence in a short period of time. He is a quiet young man who enjoys what he does. His first album, ‘BECOMING,’ contains his major hit “Balaclava” with 1M views on YouTube. He has worked with many local urban artists, including the late Boechi, Rich Kalashh, Broederliefde, Jeon, Tito Rasz, Jaido, Devi Dev, Broskii, and many others. B’Jay is the only local urban artist who once opened a show by Burna Boy in Curaçao.
When it comes to your childhood, who is Bjorne Bregita actually?
My childhood was, to be quite honest, simple. My mother raised me, and I witnessed many problems at home. My father did not raise me. Coming from that kind of life, you see and learn so much because you’ll have to go out and learn things on your own. My father was there, but he wasn’t living with us, so I can’t say he wasn’t there for me because if I needed anything, he was always there to help. However, having a father who lives with you is different from having a father who is only there when you need him. My mother was the one who shaped me into the person I am today. She had to do everything, like picking me up from school, while working two jobs so we could eat. As a result of those experiences, I learned that you shouldn’t rely on anyone; you can pursue your goals on your own. Growing up, my mother was always my role model because nothing was impossible for her; she could do anything.
When was the moment that you realized that music was your biggest passion?
I come from a musical family, so I believe it’s in my blood. As I grew older, I told my father that I wanted to start singing and take part in the Youth Tumba festival. But at that moment he didn’t think it was the right time. I then performed at the 2016 Youth Tumba Festival with the song “Awe ta ko’i mucha tin,” and again in 2018 with the song “Molina di energia”. Everything started from there. I recall my current manager approaching me with the proposal to start something new for Curaçao as if it were yesterday. The plan was to form a music group called ‘DXBT’ made up of teenagers. The group consisted of me, Denzel Gregg, Terren Bernardus and Xechell Jacobs. The group’s name was formed using the first letter of each member’s first name. Although I had been approached to go solo several times, I remained loyal to the project and the other members of ‘DXBT‘.
When was B’Jay the artist born and who was his inspiration?
My biggest sources of inspiration were myself and my manager, who always believed in me. I had no idea what I wanted to do with rap after ‘DXBT’ broke up. “Will the public accept me?” I wondered. I began exploring and writing songs while in DXBT. I remember writing the song “Yora So” like it was yesterday. When it was released, it became a hit, and I began to feel accepted as an artist. When I had to go solo after the group broke up, my manager told me that I needed to release an album to show the world who B’Jay is as a solo artist. My doubts about my acceptance as a solo artist vanished the moment I released my first album.

This album took a long time to complete; I began in 2018 and finished in 2021. I wanted to give up several times during the process; I was sleep deprived, spent most of my time in the studio, and did not attend school. Writing an album is a difficult task because many factors must be considered. You must remember that you are not the only one who must like the songs; you must also consider the people you are singing to, such as the single woman, the guy with a little more street style, or the person you want to inspire. Writing an album requires a wide range of emotions and feelings. I ended up writing 30 songs in total, and my team chose the 15 best to be included in the album. After that, my journey as B’Jay began. I used to believe that I would be a basic rapper in Curaçao, but after the release of my album, I became much bigger than I had anticipated. I started getting a lot of local and international bookings. It was at that point that I realized I had to take B’Jay seriously as an artist.
Do you think that a rapper/ artist using vulgar language in songs, have bad influence on his fans?
There are various ways to use vulgar language, either for your own benefit or to offend someone. I condemn the use of vulgar language in songs to offend people. Even though using vulgar language is not ideal, it can sometimes be a more effective way of expressing yourself. You have the freedom to express yourself as an artist. With or without the profanity. Artists do not write songs to offend their sympathizing fans. We write songs about real life and how we feel as artists.
I don’t believe that using vulgar language makes an artist a bad influence. There is an artist who uses this in his art to
express himself, and many people look up to him. I write and rap songs about what’s real, not what they want to hear. This, I believe, inspires others who are in a similar situation. In the artistic world, we don’t make things appear to be something they aren’t; we are direct and say things as they are. We have the ability to express our feelings, positive or negative, by singing and help get out the message where it needs to go in order to effect change.
What is the difference between “B’Jay” the artist and Bjorne Bregita in private?
I believe we are similar but distinct. As an artist, you live your life for the sake of the public, and I will not deny that. I have to put on a shield every time I leave my house, so I don’t have as much freedom to be myself as I do in private. People are interested in everything you do as an artist, especially if your popularity is growing. In private and personal settings, I prefer to be addressed by my actual name, Bjorne. ‘B’Jay’ feels more formal to me, both professionally and as an artist. This is visible on B’Jay’s social media pages; I only promote my work. My friends always say that they wish people knew who I really am because I enjoy telling jokes. Behind the scenes, Bjorne is a humble young man who is intelligent, straightforward, and one-of-a-kind.
At what moment did you feel the calling to do humanitarian work? Do you do it from the heart or just for commercial purposes?
I grew up with this, but I couldn’t do it before because I didn’t have the financial means. I’ve always said that I’d do this when I’m older. I’ve always wanted to help those in need. This stems from my upbringing and family.
We always tried to help people with what we had. I currently have the means to do so, so I don’t hesitate to help those in need. I even do this with my friends; when we go out, I never let them pay. I am aware that I can be taken advantage of, but I do so from the bottom of my heart.
Do you consider yourself a positive influence?
It depends on how you look at it, but I’ll speak for myself about the positive and negative influence I believe I can have. The negative can be my image, which includes my clothing and tattoos. However, the positive influence is the manner in which I present my words. People always take out parts of my interviews that they can use as motivation for others, and I also make sure there is some motivation in the lyrics of my songs. So you can see my positive influence because my lyrics are relevant to the youth. But, as I previously stated, there can be a negative influence, even if in my opinion, it is not entirely negative because it represents what I stand for and what I enjoy. I didn’t make my image to be a part of B’Jay; it’s just who I am and what I like as a person. But, once again, it is up to each individual to be themselves.
Recently, on social media, you received quite some criticism. For instance, they criticized the fact that you took off your shirt during a performance in a jump-in for kids, how did you deal with this?
Bro, that was a very depressing day in my life. This was so ironic, as I had been anticipating such a day because things were going too well for me as an artist. It was too good to be true. Everybody was crazy about me, shared my things and liked me. So I expected a day to come when something negative would take place. The

only thing I didn’t know was when it would happen. Let me explain to you what happened. The moment I arrived, there was another artist performing, and this artist was singing quite some vulgar words. I immediately asked the promoter what was permitted during the show, taking into account that it was a party for kids. I am known for that when I get paid to do a job, I go up the stage and do this accordingly. I don’t do half the job. I performed for 30 minutes where I had the crowd going crazy and I performed the whole show with my shirt on. In the closing song ‘Balaclava’, I took my shirt off because I was feeling very hot. But the fact is that now I am known for taking my shirt off when I am performing the song ‘Balaclava’. People took the last few minutes of my performance and put it on social media. My mom was upset about what had happened, because she always warned me for this. I wanted to clarify the situation, but I was advised against speaking up about it. What upset me the most about this situation was the number
of friends I lost and that they judged me without knowing what actually happened.
Do you ever find yourself with fans who want you in a sexual manner? If so, how do you deal with this?
As an artist, you will meet many different types of fans, so of course this is also something that I have experienced. But I am very professional and I know what is or isn’t allowed. And I always give respect to receive it back. I have encountered many different weird propositions that you can’t imagine. For example, people who want to touch my intimate body parts, want to go home with me. But as a responsible and respectful person you have to be firm in your shoes and stay true to your principles. This doesn’t happen to me only as an artist, everybody can go through that. But you should always remember your norms and values no matter what situation you are facing.
Do you feel valued as a local artist?
Yes, of course. Being on the cover of GOSA Magazine, you can’t imagine how valued and honored I feel. The love and care that I receive from my fans is unbelievable. I’m not someone who gets excited easily; I am humble and appreciate every little thing that someone does for me. That is why, after a recent performance at Burna Boy’s concert, as the only local artist who opened the show, I got very emotional. That was one of the happiest but most challenging moments in my life, because then I felt that I had achieved a lot in my career and life.
Is it your goal to go international as an artist? Where do you see yourself in a couple of years?
I would want to go international, but always with my base in Curaçao. However, I don’t want to focus only on a life as an artist but also on investing. My dream is to become a successful person in life. Moreover, what I am working on is not only to be a good artist but also to be a role model for others.

is a Curaçao-born upcoming artist who currently resides in the Netherlands. His father taught him to play the piano when he was five years old, and he has had a lifelong love of music. So much so that he began teaching himself to play the guitar, bass guitar, and even sing.
Kevv.’s love for music began at a young age, but it wasn’t until he moved to the Netherlands that he began pursuing his dreams of becoming an artist/producer. YouTube taught him everything he knows about production, recording, mixing, and mastering. He is utilizing the platform as his personal classroom. Kevv.’s songs are always clean because he wants everyone, regardless of age, to be able to enjoy them.
From the kids dancing on the playground to the elderly couple listening to them on the radio, there is something for everyone. This is also why his songs reflect on both the good and bad aspects of life. This is done so that everyone can relate to the music and feel as if they have lived it before.
Kevv. currently runs his own production company, “DiKuraçon Productions,” through which he works with a variety of clients. He is overjoyed that he chose to pursue his greatest passion and hopes to inspire others to do the same.

‘Nos Historia’
Seú is a music genre and dance style originated in Curaçao and Bonaire. Seú is played all year long but more frequently during the Lent season and Easter. The annual harvest festival parade is called Seú, which takes place on Easter Monday. A colorful parade with people dressed in traditional costumes, celebrating through the streets of Curaçao, from Santa Maria to Otrobanda. Simadan, equivalent to Seú in Curaçao, is held in Bonaire. The “tambú” (drum), “chapi/agan” (metal agricultural implement), and “kachu/karkó” (cow horn/ shell) are the most common instruments used to play Seú.
Seú originated in slavery time during harvesting. During the 18th and 19th centuries, the purpose of the Seú celebration was to thank the gods for the harvest of Sorghum, a type of corn. While dancing and singing, the slaves brought the harvest of the sorghum to the storage rooms. After that, the festivities took place in the yard of the manor, where the owner of the slaves (the “shon”) was able to see them. It started with innocent work songs and ended with Tambú songs, of which the latter were considered pagan by the Catholic Church and the colonial ruler.
After slavery, the creativity of the Afro-Curaçaoan population was limited, because Tambú songs were prohibited. Later, after the arrival of the Shell oil refinery in 1915, Seú slowly started to lose its initial function. The Seú celebration was brought back to life in the 1940s and 1950s.
The Seú ritual can be divided into 3 phases. The first phase entailed the harvesting of sorghum. In this stage, the corn was first cut by men in the morning and then put in baskets by women. The harvest was transported from the field to the storerooms during the second phase, all while being accompanied by singing and music. The work was finished after the third stage, and everyone gathered to sing and dance to the drumbeat. Even though the population is no longer primarily focused on harvesting, we still hold the Seú tradition parade. Musically and aesthetically, it has taken on a more contemporary tone.
On April 10, 2023, we held our “marcha di Seú”, or harvest parade. A vibrant parade that exudes happiness and GOSA-dera through traditional and creative costumes, seú music, and dance.

Spend the day in Christoffel National Park Hiking
The Christoffel National Park is one of the most popular parks on the island, featuring activities for people of all ages. Begin an exciting and enjoyable day at the Christoffel National Park by climbing the 372-meter-high Christoffel Mountain. The Christoffel National Park opens at 6 a.m. every day. After paying at the park’s register office, you can drive to the bottom of the mountain to start climbing. The last climb of the day is at 10 a.m., because of the high temperatures after this hour. The best time to climb the mountain is between 6 and 9 a.m.
This challenging mountain hike allows you to witness nature’s awakening in the early morning. As you reach the top, you will be rewarded with a breathtaking panorama of the island. It is highly advised to bring appropriate walking shoes, water, and snacks. It will take at least two to three hours to climb and descend the mountain, but once at the top, you will not want to rush down, so it may take longer. There are a few rest stops along the way.
Savonet Museum
When getting off the mountain, you head straight to the Christoffel National Park and the Savonet Museum. The Savonet Museum provides visitors with insider information and a glimpse into the lives of the area’s former occupants starting from the arrival of the first Arowak Indians on the island about 4000 years ago up to the present history. The Savonet Museum also gives information about the native plants and animals found in the Christoffel Park and the neighboring surroundings.
The museum is open during the park’s operating hours.

Enjoy nature & history tour
After your tour through the museum learning about the population and history, it’s time to experience the lovely surroundings of the Christoffel National Park itself. The Christoffel National Park is a must-see for anyone who enjoys nature and the great outdoors. It is the largest and most diverse nature area protected on the Leeward Dutch islands, providing you with a unique perspective on our complex natural environment.
The park is filled with native birds and vegetation, including species that are rarely seen elsewhere on the island. The wealth of wild orchids, the local barn owl, and if you’re lucky, the Curaçao white-tailed deer are all examples of what the Christoffel National Park has to offer.
Indian Cave
A next stop worthwhile is the Indian Cave, also found in the Christoffel National Park. However, due to the immensity of the park, you must go by automobile to reach it. The park protects the Indian Cave in order to preserve the original native murals in the cave.
Figures carved in caves are estimated to be 500 to 2,000 years old; the figures are regarded as abstract figures with religious meanings. White, black, and terra cotta are used to draw the figures.
It’s a stunning cave, with fantastic rock formations and textures. Nature creates marvels.
Picnic
After having climbed the mountain and enjoyed the scenery and history of the Christoffel National Park, it’s time for a picnic. There are picnic tables available in the park, or you can enjoy a picnic anywhere on the grounds.
Bring your own favorite picnic items such as sandwiches, salads, cake, soda, and wine, or you can buy food and drinks at the park’s restaurant. You are advised to use sustainable products rather than plastic items. Also, please remember to clean up when finished and leave the park clean and tidy.

1. Last time I did something special for my island… With every local or international performance, I try to project my pride into my “dushi” Curaçao. Something small but very significant to me was showing off our flag in the last video clip I made in the Dominican Republic.
2. Last thing I regret doing…
There was a time in my life that I was gambling, which I regret, primarily because I gambled money that I had worked so hard for through my passion, singing. It was undoubtedly not the best decision, and I now see things and life differently.
3. Last great advice I got…
To believe in yourself. Every encouragement is needed as a human being, and getting this advice I sincerely appreciate as a person and an artist alike.
4. Last best gift I received…
I am a dog person and got one as a gift. It was a pleasant surprise and gift.
5. Last person I said “I love you” to… My mom, she is the most important person in my life, and I will always be grateful for everything she has done for me. I will not get tired of expressing my love for her.
6. Last time I faced my fears... I was faced with my greatest fear when I dived into the dark blue ocean. I had this fear for years and got the courage to overcome it.
7. Last moment of bliss...
As said above, my mom is my everything, and having the resources to help her finish her house, was my most blissful moment.

You will have the opportunity to express some of your more extreme and controversial views to your love interest. As you are not usually well known for doing anything more original than trying out the latest filler for baked potatoes - this could be potentially exciting. If you have any pretensions to being unconventional - by all means, go for it! You have nothing to lose and your partner (current or prospective) will be eternally grateful.
SCORPIO
October 23 - November 21
With activity in the most social area of your chart, you’re primed and ready to make the networking scene. You’re a friendly sort anyway, and you collect acquaintances like nobody else. Think about how to combine your garrulous nature with new business opportunities. Connecting with friends overseas can create new moneymaking opportunities. You can do what you do in other places, as it turns out.
SAGITTARIUS
November 22 - December 21
A scattered energy flow begins to ease now. This is an excellent time for careful work that polishes your skills. There could be a stressful confrontation that challenges your ability to work with others. Still, this is a positive time to network to improve your position. Be as open and charming as possible. Meetings with co-workers away from work can build morale. This period is good for reorganizing or reviewing what you’ve accomplished.
CAPRICORN
December 22 - January 19
The most effective measure of a healthy diet is how well you sleep. The quality of rest you enjoy has to do with how finely tuned your body is. What you eat affects your ability to exercise and relax. Take the time to notice how your body digests what you eat. Red meat is difficult to digest - leafy greens are easy to digest. Get familiar with the spectrum and start treating your body the way you would a finely tuned instrument.
AQUARIUS
January 20 - February 18
You may wish to maintain a detached outlook on an affair in which you have become deeply involved recently. The present astral configuration insures that you get some distance between you and the person who is affecting you. This is vital right now, as you really need time to assess your emotional status, and decide if this whole issue is a positive or a negative in your life.
PISCES
February 19 - March 20
August 23 - September 22
Life looks a lot easier now, so you’ll be able to unwind no matter what stress you’ve been under. Let go of tension by exercising. Release any lingering resistance to feeling your best. Doing this will increase your energy level dramatically. If you’re feeling restless, alleviate this with massage and herbal baths.
You’re safe when it comes to money now. People in close relationships with you are looking out for you and may be able to suggest some pretty good investments. Of course, due diligence is required on your part. But the Universe indicates that what you learn now is crucial for forward movement in your finances. Leave no stone unturned in your search for security. Source: horoscope.com
