Father, you are necessary and you are valuable

For many years the negative attention to fathers in our culture has been a fact. "Tantu bal bo t’ei òf laga di t’ei", "I myself am a mother and a father.” It's what you often hear women saying during Father's day. On the other hand, we hear fathers say: “We are NOT celebrated, nothing is done for us.” As a woman, I want to change the narrative in a positive way of what is said on both sides. A woman cannot be a mother and a father! The man who becomes a father should know the importance of his role and celebrate himself! Everyone should stay in their role!

As a social worker and Neuro Linguistic programming master coach working with children, I have come to see how much influence a father’s role has in the life of his children. Especially when fathers don’t have an active role in the child's life. For decades, it has been thought and believed that the role of a father is simply to provide financial support for the family. More and more studies show that a father who has an active role in the life of his children is less likely to get involved in criminal activities, be depressed and have behavioral problems.

What does it mean to be an involved parent, in this context especially an involved father?

A father who understands that:

Before birth he has to prepare mentally and emotionally for the arriving of the child Spending quality time is the best gift for your child (talking and asking questions to get to know them better, playing educational and creative games, helping to solve problems, doing activities and showing affection to both daughters and sons. Finances are a means to live an easier life but this is not the only thing a father can offer.

The benefits of an involved parent, especially in this case of a father, to a child are: high selfesteem, sense of security; healthier relationships with other people The father can also be a role model.

A father should understand that he has a lot of value to add in his child's life but he should be able to see it himself. Big things and big dreams can only be made true by combining creative people’s skills, passion, and dreams with good leadership. Together we are strong and can make a colorful impact.
