WASHINGTON: BINGEN TO STEVENSON

Steve Kowats

962 Wind River Road, Carson, WA

Steve had passed through the beautiful small mountain community of Carson, WA, many times, on his way to adventures. There is only one four way stop in town, and on the southeast corner sits a building originally built as an auto dealership in 1930. Steve spent three years restoring this iconic place, which is now the home of Carson Art Garage — in it you’ll find Steve’s work and metalsmith shop, as well as the work of many local artists. It has become a dream in focus.

Dawn Nielson

549 NW Hot Springs Alameda Rd

Stevenson, WA

My art practice is nurtured by the aggregate surroundings of the forest that envelopes me. As an artist, I predominantly create encaustic wax paintings. Encaustic wax is a blend of beeswax and pine resin. Its transparency and pliability allow me to be both painter and sculptor. My education includes a BFA in General Fine Arts from Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, Oregon.

OREGON: HOOD RIVER TO PARKDALE

Nancy Houfek Brown

667 Parsons Road, Hood River, OR

I paint in oils, making large flat graphic shapes of multiple hues to depict images of the Gorge — the vineyards, the Columbia River, the mountains, the forests, the orchards — or of bouquets of flowers. I want the viewer to enter into the painting, to enjoy the colors and forms and the sense of whimsy.
