GORGE ARTISTS OPEN STUDIOS
OREGON: HOOD RIVER TO PARKDALE
Polly Wood
525 Highline Road, Hood River, OR
My transition from pastry chef to hand building ceramicist has been natural and full of creative adventure. I take my inspiration from the garden, botanical illustration, and a love of surface design. Hand carving my own stamps or working with glaze pencils and bright pigments allows me to play with texture, line, and color.

I feel lucky to be a member of a centuries old craft tradition creating useful and affordable art for the middle class. I’m a craftsman at heart striving to make aesthetically beautiful, comfortable and most importantly functional pots. What excites me? Color and texture. Beautiful forms. Handles that fit both the hand and the pot. Dynamic and resonantly luminous glazing. Kiln openings.
