Publisher’s Letter
Where have we been for the last year and a half,? Renewing! Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2 NIV
Our 10th Anniversary Souvenir Booklet printed in November 2022 was our last issue. I was so excited about the milestone and made plans for our next season, which I called, “A Season of Abundance.” Instead, we entered a “Job Season” where we encountered delays, dilemmas, and denials. Delays with content, dilemmas in ministry, and denials with funding. It seems as if we were hit with every possible unturn, bumps, no’s, and disappointments known to man. To include sickness, and death. Just like Job, I questioned God. “Lord, what is it? What am I doing wrong?” I just couldn’t understand the storm. Though not immediately God did respond. “I need to get you ready” At that moment I realized that I was doing so much for others I was neglecting my work. I was then reminded of a quote by Tyler Perry… “focus on one thing” I decided to focus on me.
The renewing started with getting “me” ready. I started with my health I successfully lost 103 lbs.! I reevaluated the services I was doing for others and formed a plan to make me better at them so that I may better service my family, the ministry, and the community. As highlighted on page three. I also restructured and realigned plans created for Good News back in 2022.
Although not completely out of the storm. I am thankful and fortunate for going through it. Going through these things has allowed me to gather great resources, make positive connections, and release overdue disconnections. Like Job, I will remain faithful no matter life’s circumstances. As we continue to spread the Good News you will witness the work and have an opportunity to share in it more to come.
God’s blessings,

Father’s Day - Sunday, June 16, 2024
Father’s Day, the third Sunday in June is a national holiday to honor fathers. Credit is given to Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington, whose father, a Civil War veteran, raised her and her five siblings after their mother died in childbirth. She is said to have had the idea in 1909 while listening to a sermon on Mother’s Day, which was becoming established as a holiday at the time. Local religious leaders supported the idea, and the first Father’s Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910, the month of the birthday of Dodd’s father. In 1924 U.S. Pres. Calvin Coolidge supported the observance, and in 1966 Pres. Lyndon B. Johnson issued a proclamation that recognized the day. It became a national holiday in 1972 when Pres. Richard Nixon signed legislation designating the third Sunday of June as Father’s Day.

Juneteenth - Wednesday, June 19, 2024
On June 19, 1865, nearly two years after President Abraham Lincoln emancipated enslaved Africans in America, Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas with news of freedom. More than 250,000 African Americans embraced freedom by executive decree in what became known as Juneteenth or Freedom Day.
"The people of Texas are informed that in accordance with a Proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free. This involves an absolute equality of rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves, and the connection heretofore existing between them becomes that between employer and hired laborer." Gordon Granger, Union General, June 19, 1865
In 2021, Juneteenth was established as a federal holiday, opening it to symbolic and global interpretation and providing a better understanding of the evolution of our nation and its people. Juneteenth celebrations then, like now, recognize the ongoing fight for human rights and equality and are commemorated through family cookouts, faith services, musical performances and storytelling. Today, Juneteenth celebrates African American resilience and achievement while aiding in the preservation of those historical narratives that promoted racial and personal advancement since Freedom Day.
U.S. President Joe Biden signs the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into law in the East Room of the White House on June 17, 2021 in Washington, DC. The Juneteenth holiday marks the end of slavery in the United States and the Juneteenth National Independence Day will become the 12th legal federal holiday the first new one since Martin Luther King Jr. Day was signed into law in 1983.
