MOCK EXAM RESULTS 2024

At the beginning of December, our Year 11 participated in their Mock GCSE Results Day, offering them a valuable glimpse into the significance of the real event they’ll experience in August. This occasion encourages pupils to reflect on their progress and plan their next steps as they prepare for their upcoming exams in May

To support them on this journey, we will soon introduce a variety of effective revision strategies, techniques, and principles designed to guide and empower them through this important phase To celebrate their hard work, pupils were treated to hot drinks and donuts during lunch a well-deserved reward

BRAVING THE CHILL:

YEAR 11 CONQUER SCOTMAN’S FLASH WITH KAYAKING ADVENTURE AND TEAM SPIRIT!

Our Year 11 pupils embraced the chill of the great outdoors for an adventurous day of kayaking in November. With the stunning backdrop of Scotman’s Flash nature reserve, pupils took on the challenge to showcase their skills, knowledge, and understanding as part of the outdoor adventure module of their OCR Sports Studies Despite the icy waters, their determination and teamwork, both on and off the water, were exceptional, with all pupils demonstrating 'The Golborne Way ' A massive thank you to the incredible team at Be Well Outdoors for their expert guidance and warm hospitality, making this an unforgettable experience!

Mrs Stott proudly presented the Headteacher's Award to pupils who demonstrated outstanding improvement in their Attitude to Learning (ATL) and maintained excellent attendance These awards reflect the values of 'The Golborne Way ' Congratulations to all our top achievers keep up the fantastic work!

WORLD OF WORK DAY

In November we hosted our combined World of Work Day and annual Careers & Apprenticeship Evening. This inspiring event offered our pupils the chance to connect with representatives from a diverse range of businesses, local colleges, further education institutions, and training providers. It was a fantastic opportunity for pupils to gather valuable information to help shape their next steps after leaving Golborne High School.

This year’s Anti-Bullying Week theme was 'Choose Respect,' and our Year 7 pupils rose to the challenge by writing inspiring poems on this important topic The best entry from each class was selected, and from these, an overall winner was chosen We are thrilled to announce that the winner of the Year 7 Anti-Bullying Poem Competition for 2024 is Louie F with his heartfelt poem titled 'Respect is Free' Congratulations, Louie well done!

GOLBORNE’S RISING STAR SHINES IN ENGLAND U15 TRIUMPH!

A huge congratulations to Tia-Elise in Year 10 for earning her first cap playing for the England Women’s Under-15 team! Tia and her team showcased incredible talent, winning all three of their international fixtures against Iceland, Switzerland, and Norway Tia made her mark in style, scoring her first goal for England against Iceland This is an extraordinary achievement, and we can’t wait to see her continue to shine for her country in the future Well done, Tia we’re so proud of you!

OSCAR RACES TO NATIONAL CROSS COUNTRY GLORY!

Congratulations to Oscar in Year 8 for his incredible achievement in the U13 boys' category at the Greater Manchester Cross Country Championships, hosted by Leigh Harriers. Oscar secured an impressive 4th place and has successfully qualified to represent Greater Manchester at the National Inter-County Cross Country Championships in Nottingham next year.

Having only taken up cross country running this year, Oscar has shown remarkable progress. Since competing in his first race in October, he has excelled in the Lancashire Red Rose League, a series of four races, where he finished 2nd overall and claimed victory in the final race, beating more experienced athletes. With every race, Oscar continues to close the gap on his competition, and his outstanding performances have helped the Leigh U13 boys' team secure 3rd place overall

A huge congratulations to Connor for raising over £260 in November for 'Shelter,' bringing his total fundraising efforts to over an incredible £2,000! This is an outstanding achievement for a cause close to his heart one he has passionately supported since the age of six His dedication will make a meaningful difference for children and families facing homelessness this Christmas A truly worthy cause to support well done, Connor!

The Golborne Way Awards marked a momentous celebration of achievement at Golborne High School in December as we proudly celebrated our pupils who have exceeded expectations by embodying The Golborne Way

The Arts Theatre served as the backdrop for staff and parents to honour pupils who had shown exemplary behavior, embraced the Golborne Way principles, and exceeded expectations in various aspects of school life

In a festive atmosphere, awards were presented to pupils for achievements in After School Activities, Excellence, Honesty, Outstanding Behavior, Engagement in Lessons, Politeness, Questioning, Reading, Resilience, Tolerance, and Wearing the Uniform with Pride.

The event was well-attended and featured wonderful performances, including music, readings, and vocals from pupils Harley, Pak and Layla. A highlight was a captivating musical piece from our upcoming school production of Footloose, performed by the talents of Maya, Jeannie, and Hannah Headteacher Mrs. Stott also had the honour of presenting a special recognition award to our exceptional Chair and Vice Chair of Governors, Mrs Byrne and Mrs Naylor, in appreciation of their long-standing service to the school and community.

Sweet Success in a Baking Masterclass!

In December Miss Clegg's Year 10 Food Technology class embarked on a culinary adventure, diving into the art of baking with flair and creativity. Using fresh ingredients, they crafted vibrant, mouthwatering desserts that could easily grace the menu of a high-end restaurant. From planning and baking to decorating and presenting, the pupils poured their hearts into every detail, turning their ideas into stunning masterpieces Well done year 10!

Unwrapping Adventures with Arthur: The Seeing Stone!

In the final week of term, Mr. Graham surprised some of our Year 7 pupils with a special Christmas gift: the award-winning book Arthur: The Seeing Stone by renowned author Kevin Crossley-Holland We hope these lucky students enjoy an exciting journey through the world of knights and medieval life over the holidays. Merry Christmas from everyone at Golborne High School to our fantastic Year 7s!

Mr. Falconer and Mrs. Hayes surprised the 100th, 250th, 500th, and 750th pupils to walk through the school's main gates with something extra special a shiny golden ticket! These lucky winners were able to trade their tickets for awesome rewards at school, including a mouthwatering Christmas dinner

GEORGE KICKS INTO HIGH GEAR:!

ACHIEVING BLACK BELT GLORY IN TANG SOO DO!

George has been training in the Korean martial art of Tang Soo Do for three years, steadily progressing through his belt gradings with determination and focus. After completing an intense six-hour assessment that included sparring, selfdefense, and a written Korean test, followed by a demanding three-hour exam featuring forms, sparring, self-defense, and another written Korean exam, George's hard work and dedication have paid off. He has proudly achieved Dan status (black belt) a remarkable milestone in his martial arts journey Congratulations, George!

Christmas Dinner

During the final week leading up to Christmas, the canteen delighted everyone with a spectacular traditional Christmas dinner Students enjoyed a feast of turkey with stuffing, roast potatoes, Brussels sprouts, seasonal vegetables, and the star of the show pigs in blankets with rich gravy followed by an array of mouthwatering festive desserts

The celebrations continued the next day with our Christmas Market at the pod Pupils and staff indulged in an irresistible menu featuring Bratwurst, pulled pork barm, panini sausage rolls with pigs in blankets, and the crowd favourite, the Yorkshire pudding wrap Simply delicious!
