In August, after five years of dedication, hard work, and steadfast support, the Class of 2024 returned to Golborne High School to receive their GCSE results, marking a significant milestone in their academic journey
We are immensely proud of our pupils and it was our absolute pleasure to celebrate with them when the results were distributed The teamwork between staff, pupils and parents has led to the success that we celebrated with our pupils
In August, we had a fantastic few days hosting our Summer School for our future Year 7 students! It was a pleasure to meet each of the pupils who attended, as they got a head start experiencing life at Golborne and preparing for their new journey beginning in September
What a fantastic start for year 7! The Class of 2029 truly shone in their fresh uniforms, and we were delighted to meet the newest members of our Golborne Family We hope that everyone had an enjoyable first day of learning and forging new friendships, and we eagerly anticipate an even more enriching experience throughout the year.
Celebrating our pupils' achievements is one of our greatest joys! In September, Mrs. Stott was thrilled to recognise the incredible efforts of our Year 7 pupils who put in the hard work over the summer to complete their transition booklets to an exceptional level. This dedication truly embodies the Golborne Standard and reflects the spirit of The Golborne Way. We’re confident that this is just the beginning of many more accomplishments to come this year.
In September, we welcomed over 300 excited Year 6 pupils for an unforgettable Primary Progression Day! The day was filled with fun, adventure, and immersive hands-on learning, as pupils explored a wide range of classroom and outdoor activities From axe throwing and den building to solving tricky puzzles and conquering the climbing wall, pupils had an incredible time
In October, we hosted our annual Open Evening, and we were thrilled to welcome so many new faces to our school! Visitors were greeted by our wonderful senior prefects and treated to the full “Golborne Family” experience. The evening kicked off with an inspiring talk from our headteacher, Mrs. Stott, before guests explored the school and jumped into exciting activities in each department, a chance to explore, have fun, and ask questions, and for our younger visitors to take part in the 'Golborne Challenge'' and compete for a prize! This was a fantastic evening that gave everyone a real taste of the Golborne Way.
Miss Clegg's Year 10 Food Technology class embraced the art of Italian bread-making by crafting their own Focaccia. This traditional flatbread, known for its soft, airy texture and golden crust, provided the perfect canvas for pupils to explore both their culinary skills and creativity. Using a combination of fresh, flavourful ingredients such as garlic, olives, peppers, herbs, tomatoes, and olive oil, the class designed vibrant, artistic loaves Each pupil put their own unique style into their creations, resulting in a colourful and aromatic masterpiece that showcased both the beauty and versatility of this classic Italian dish
Huge congratulations to Markus, Ice, Izzy, Ginnie, and Isabelle for rocking the most afterschool activities between September and October! They've scored themselves family tickets to the amazing Halloween Lakeside Light Trail – spooky fun awaits!
October saw our Year 7 pupils participate in the annual Golborne High School Inter-Tutor Day, engaging in a dynamic range of competitions set to test both mind and body Pupils collaborated in house teams to showcase their athletic skills in sporting events and tackled complex challenges in maths and science before putting their deductive reasoning to the test in the ever-popular Murder Mystery challenge!
Year 8 pupils had the incredible opportunity to spend a night at the Catalyst Science Discovery Centre and Museum in Widnes for a one-of-a-kind "Night at the Museum" experience. The evening kicked off with a hands-on "Plastic Fantastic" workshop, where students got creative making keyrings out of a unique polymer. With the weather on their side, the fun continued outdoors as the pupils enjoyed PE games led by Mr. Peacock, followed by a delicious "chippy supper" thanks to Mrs. Oliver.
Inside the interactive gallery, pupils dove into the world of science, exploring magnetism and chemical reactions, and even took a turn presenting the weather using a green screen! As the night drew to a close, the students had the amazing experience of falling asleep surrounded by fascinating exhibits.
The adventure wrapped up the next morning with the exciting "Light Fantastic" show in the auditorium, where year 8 discovered how different wavelengths of light behave using special goggles to create hundreds of rainbows. The pupils were an absolute credit to our school and made us really proud!
Congratulations to Year 9 pupil Grace and the Wigan St. Patrick's team with their recent 14-10 victory over Hull KR in the cup final! This win caps off an undefeated season, securing an impressive treble with triumphs in the Rhinos Challenge, league, and cup. An outstanding achievement well done to all!
Brew and biscuits all around! Year 11 marked the end of their mock exams with well-deserved hot drinks and chocolate biscuits - a cozy reward for all their hard work and dedication over the past few weeks. Congratulations, Year 11!
On the 11th November, the whole school fell silent for 2 minutes in remembrance of our fallen soldiers Thank you to Mrs Hayes for playing an incredibly moving performance of 'The Last Post' which captured the respect throughout the school.
On Sunday two of our School Senior Prefects (Layla and Sophie) participated in the Golborne Remembrance Day Parade The parade started outside Golborne Court and walked to the Cenotaph on the edge of Legh Street Park The pupils laid a wreath marking the occasion and participated in the two minutes silence
'A huge well done to Isla, Alfie, Layla, Maddie, Abigail, and Theo, who each volunteered their time to step in front of the camera and deliver powerful recitations of war poetry in remembrance You can view all their recordings on our social media channels!

In November, Year 10 and 11 GCSE Art pupils embarked on a transformative weekend retreat at the Conway Centres in Anglesey, Wales The retreat provided an immersive environment for creative exploration centered on the theme "Mapping," allowing pupils to work with dedication and focus to complete their projects. They committed themselves, from early mornings to late evenings, to creating stunning 3D and mixed media pieces that will add depth and creativity to their GCSE Art portfolios. The retreat concluded with a memorable evening around an outdoor fire, where students shared songs, toasted marshmallows, and celebrated their hard work before returning home on Sunday.
