THE GOLBORNE WAY STARTS HERE FROM MUD TO GLORY

YEAR 7 SMASH THEIR SUMMER CHALLENGE!

Celebrating our pupils' achievements is one of our greatest joys! In September, Mrs. Stott was thrilled to recognise the incredible efforts of our Year 7 pupils who put in the hard work over the summer to complete their transition booklets to an exceptional level. This dedication truly embodies the Golborne Standard and reflects the spirit of The Golborne Way. We’re confident that this is just the beginning of many more accomplishments to come this year. Congratulations, Class of 2030 keep shining!

Our amazing Year 11 put their Bear Grylls skills to the test during their Duke of Edinburgh expedition weekend in September! The group set off from Roddlesworth, hiking 15 km to Bibby’s Farm, where they camped overnight, before completing another 11 km on Sunday to finish their challenge The weather threw everything at them heavy rain, thunder, and even lightning but they powered through with smiles, teamwork, and plenty of laughter The supportive, upbeat atmosphere kept morale high, making even the toughest moments fun!

All pupils did themselves and the school proud, earning glowing feedback from both the independent assessor and the public. Every pupil showed determination, resilience, and true Golborne Way spirit!

A huge congratulations to Charlotte & Holly for their fantastic performances in this summer’s NADOS production of Shrek the Musical. The show opened on Wednesday, 27th August, and delighted audiences across five performances in just four nights.

Both Charlotte and Holly dedicated their summer to rehearsals working hard while having plenty of fun along the way They took on a variety of roles throughout the show, but their standout performances came as the highly entertaining Tweedledee and Tweedledum.

Scarlett “Katalina Rose” is climbing the ropes to wrestling stardom!

Year 8 pupil, Scarlett has already made waves at Top Rope Wrestling Academy, training relentlessly since April and earning her spot in the elite Vipers division She made an impressive debut in Hull and is now gearing up for her next big challenge at the Pendle Hippodrome in Colne this October.

With her sights set on the international stage, Scarlett is determined to follow in the legendary footsteps of Golborne High School alumni, The British Bulldogs, and make her mark on the world of wrestling with the WWE.

Year 9 Geography pupils visited the Etihad Stadium, home to Manchester City Football Club. During a VIP tour, pupils explored the stadium grounds and exclusive behind-the-scenes areas, including the changing rooms and press conference suites Pupils also visited New Islington Marina The marina has been the focus of serious regeneration work in the area over recent years, introducing stylish residential and leisure areas that are in harmony with the surrounding community

The visit provided valuable insight into how urban redevelopment has transformed Manchester into one of the UK’s leading examples of post-industrial regeneration Once renowned for its textile mills and industrial heritage, Manchester has reinvented itself through ambitious regeneration projects that blend modern architecture, green spaces, and community-focused design. A key part of this transformation is the redevelopment of the Etihad Campus Originally constructed for the 2002 Commonwealth Games, the stadium and its surrounding area have since evolved into a vibrant hub for sport, leisure, and innovation Ongoing developments such as new entertainment venues, hotels, and public spaces reflect Manchester’s broader vision of using sport and culture to drive economic growth, urban renewal, and community engagement.

Meet the Story Keepers

Golborne High School is delighted to introduce our first team of student librarians, who have been proudly serving in their roles since September after successfully applying for this prestigious position.

Working alongside Mrs. Knott, they help with the daily running of the library — from checking books in and out and recommending great reads to classmates, to cataloguing our impressive collection of over 1,600 titles. In addition, they have played a key part in planning school events such as our Open Evening and the upcoming Book Fair in November.

We are incredibly proud of their commitment, enthusiasm, and the positive atmosphere they create each lunchtime — fostering a love of reading and ensuring the library remains a calm, welcoming space for everyone to enjoy.

Stepping into History

Golborne Pupils Experience the First World War

Golborne High was honoured to welcome historian Dr. Bill Smith, who brought history to life with the moving story of Edward Cain, a local hero who answered the call to serve in 1914. Students, who are currently studying the First World War in the enquiry 'Were the lions led by donkey's' were transported back in time as they learned about the tough conditions Edward and his fellow soldiers faced on the front lines, leading up to his disappearance at Beaumont-Hamel on July 1st, 1916, during the Battle of the Somme. Students also enjoyed a hands-on experience with genuine battlefield artifacts, even trying on original First World War uniforms—bringing history vividly to life. The workshop is a powerful reminder of the courage and sacrifice of those who came before us and offered a deeper, more meaningful understanding of the First World War and its legacy.
