Wooden Puzzle Modelling*
Girls will have the experience of designing, colouring and constructing their very own wooden model of choice, all of which are either solar or spring powered. Choose a Curiosity Lunar Rover, the Spirit Desert Explorer or the Hexapod Moon Buggy! The sessions will teach the girls the importance of a methodical approach, the need for care as well as allowing a great deal of creative input into the design colour scheme! Once finished, the girls will collaboratively audit the various models in terms of their ability to perform certain functions, including tacking rough ground, climbing slopes, as well as travelling in a straight line and an eventual winner will be found! There may even be time to construct a highly complex marble towards the end of term?

Robotics*
Girls will receive a weekly challenge to solve, which will involve them building individual 'robots' from Lego. These will be tested against others and the differences discussed. These points can form the basics of design improvements in the weeks that follow. Each robot kit contains around 200 individual parts, including a drive motor to move each robot, a solar panel as a power source, as well as sufficient parts to build robots which work on land and sea. There will be extensive opportunity for collaboration and teamwork in these sessions and we hope that girls will become adept at problem solving, as well as improving logical thinking and self-confidence.
