WATERMELON AND FETA SALAD BRAAIBROODJIE Watermelon + cucumbers is one of the most refreshing combos of all time. Throw in some mint, red Valentine’s Day is around the corner. Have you planned onion, and feta and toss it all with a very simple vinaigrette (just olive oil + red wine vinegar), and you’ve something special for your loved ones? got yourself a mean summer salad. Serve it at your next braai.

RECIPE OF THE MONTH: WHAT YOU NEED: • • • • • • • • •
1/4 c. extra-virgin olive oil 2 tbsp. red wine vinegar 1/2 tsp. kosher salt 3 c. cubed seedless watermelon 1 c. medium cucumber, chopped 1 c. crumbled feta 1/2 c. red onion, thinly sliced 1/2 c. coarsely chopped mint Flaky sea salt, for garnish (optional)
METHOD: 1. In a small bowl, whisk together olive oil, red wine vinegar, and salt. 2. In a large serving bowl, combine watermelon, cucumber, feta, red onion, and mint. Pour over dressing, tossing to combine. 3. Garnish with more mint and flaky sea salt.

With spring in the air, you might want to spruce up your garden. Before you head to your local nursery, consider these handy pointers from Garden & Home: • Look for plants with healthy green leaves. • Choose plants with lots of unopened buds rather than those that are already flowering. • Avoid plants with yellow leaves and spindly growth. • Look for shrubs with a good shape and many branches. • Avoid plants with exposed roots or roots that are matted and growing out of the bag or container • Make sure there are no weeds growing in the container or bag.
