A word from the

General Manager August is the month when winter bites hardest, but also the month when we start having longer days and when we start planning for the return to more normal circumstances. The replacement of the electric fence in Trumpeter`s Loop, on both sides from the Buffalo Creek circle to Gate 1, is completed. The new electric fences in Antelope street are planned for this month. Please treat these fences as live at all times during construction, as testing is being done intermittently. Please ensure that all your residents, employees and visitors are duly informed. It is also the responsibility of the member/resident to ensure that all vegetation is at least 1,5 metre away from this fence. Looting did not directly influence us, but the insecurity as well as the very weak and belated reaction from our SAPS and SANDF in the trouble spots, had all residents worried. Locally we had very good response from the Garsfontein SAPS as well as the Boschkop SAPS assisting during some joint operations. All the security firms serving this area did a couple of major “visible policing”

operations with the SAPS in attendance. This will continue as and when required. There were several very welcome supportive gestures from our residents, which were highly appreciated! • In this Covid-19 edition we look at a wide range of topics, but perhaps the mental issues around being in a state of lockdown (not lockup) deserves some special thought. We have had many incidents of residents aggravating their neighbours or acting totally out of character. In difficult times, always strive to be kind. • Our special thoughts to those of us who suffered the loss of a family member, friend, colleague or someone special during these times. The Board of Directors will be meeting in August and the date of the next AGM will be considered. Enjoy August, stay safe and take care!

You could also have been interrupted by loud music, noisy vehicles, motorbikes and barking dogs etc but the advantage of living in a gated community has it perks – The Rules & Regulations of the Estate can be obtained from our website: www.the-wilds. co.za. Please read these and be informed. Global Waste does most of the Estate’s refuse removal and will only empty bins branded with their logo. They will not remove additional waste, unless it is recyclable items placed in their clear plastic bags. If you require clear plastic bags for your recyclable items, please contact Global Waste on 072 667 1019. Cardboard boxes must be flattened. If you require additional domestic or garden bins, please contact Charmaine Strange on the HOA Office number 012 940 8285. Please note: Only owners may order refuse bins. The monthly cost is added to the owner’s Mid-City or Body Corproate account.

COVID-19 Looking at the past and the New Normal: The COVID-19 pandemic in South Africa is part of the ongoing pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). On 5 March 2020, then Minister of Health Zweli Mkhize confirmed the spread of the virus to South Africa, with the first known patient being a male citizen who tested positive upon his

return from Italy. The first death to have occurred from the disease was reported on 27 March 2020. On 15 March 2020, the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, declared a national state of disaster, and announced measures such as immediate travel restrictions and the closure of schools from 18 March. On 17 March, the National Coronavirus Command Council was established, “to lead the nation’s plan to contain the spread and mitigate the negative impact of the coronavirus”. On 23 March, a national lockdown was announced, starting on 27 March 2020. On 21 April, a 500 billion rand stimulus was announced in response to the pandemic. Ramaphosa announced that from 1 May 2020, a gradual and phased easing of the lockdown restrictions would begin, lowering the national alert level to 4. From 1 June, the national restrictions were lowered to level 3 The restrictions were lowered to alert level 2 on 17 August 2020. From 21 September 2020, restrictions were lowered to alert level 1.

In December 2020, the country experienced a second wave of COVID-19 infections. The lockdown was tightened from an adjusted level 1 to an adjusted level 3 starting on 29 December 2020. The lockdown was lowered from an adjusted level 3 to an adjusted level 1 starting on 1 March 2021. On 17 February 2021, the national COVID-19 vaccination program was officially rolled out. On 8 May 2021, local cases of variants of concern Delta (first detected in India, which has a higher transmissibility and reduced neutralisation than South Africa’s dominant variant, Beta) and Alpha (first detected in the UK, which has a higher transmissibility and is more lethal than South Africa’s dominant variant, Beta) were reported. On 31 May 2021 the country was moved from adjusted level 1 to an adjusted alert level 2, due to a third wave of infections. On 15 June 2021 the country was moved to alert level 3. On 28 June 2021, the country was moved to adjusted level 4, with the Delta variant fast becoming the dominant strain in the country. On 14 July 2021, the rollout for educators officially ended with more than 500 000 people being vaccinated. However, any educators who could not make it to a vaccination site during the official program still qualify to be vaccinated.

On 3 July 2021, SAHPRA approved China’s Sinovac CoronaVac Vaccine for local use via emergency use authorisation on the condition that Sinovac provides further information on risk and efficacy. On 5 July 2021, The Department of Health announced that the government would now reimburse private sites for the vaccinations of all uninsured people. Allowing any person qualified for a vaccine to be allocated to the most appropriate site, regardless of if it is private or public.

COMMITTEES

News from the various committees are as follows: Clubhouse: Chaired by Mr Gilbert Muller The clubhouse committee is preparing for the re-opening of the clubhouse facilities and some very positive changes are on the way. With that will come improved security as well as stricter controls being exercised, in order to allow everyone there the opportunity to enjoy our clubhouse to the full. Several initiatives are being planned for launch at the clubhouse. In the future facilities such as a coffee shop, a library and others will be considered, whilst clubs such as a book-, chess-, bridge/canasta-, wine- and others will be hosted there. We are awaiting applications for some of these.

Finances: Chaired by Mr Alex Philippou The financial statements as well as the budget has been signed off and will be presented to owners at the AGM. Security: Chaired by Genl (ret) Ben Groenewald Major technological improvements are being implemented on 1 August. These are mostly concerned with record keeping of events and protecting us from any threats. In this planning a lot of inputs were given by experts in the various fields, including several of our own residents. The looting and related vandalism raised several alarms and the security environment reacted very positively.

Lots of interactions led to a structured reaction mechanism being put in place, with all parties thereto ready to protect and secure. Pieter Schoeman, Bidvest Protea Coin Contract Manager, was also a patient with Covid-19 and is still in the healing process. Best wishes! Rules & Fines: Chaired by Mrs Aletta Marais It is with shock that we received news of the untimely death of the chairman of the Rules and Fines committee, Mr Willie Griesel. Our sincerest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues. Aesthetics: Chaired by Mr Christo Myburgh Exquisite gardens: We are not yet there but are moving in the right direction with our Communal Gardens along Trumpeters-Loop & the Clubhouse grounds. Significant changes are being made in preparation of Spring. Our Servest Garden team is doing very well, and we applaud them for their achievements so far. We are making the Municipal Park more accessible, and soon this area will have picnic tables & benches for you to enjoy, reading a book or just spending time with family and friends, feeding the birds, or just relaxing. A

designated smoking area is placed at the security building, therefore smoking at the Clubhouse is restricted. Gardens in the inner Sub-Estates: Sectional Title Complex Entrances, Full Title Home front gardens and pavements & Empty stands: The Aesthetics Committee reminds the residents of the letter that was sent via Mid-City on 22nd February 2021 marked: Garden Keeping. Rule B: Streetscape point 1: “Every owner is obliged to maintain, trim and keep clean and tidy, and manicure the area between the road kerb and the boundary of his property. The HOA may oblige the owner or tenant to improve the appearance of this area, when deemed necessary, and at the cost of the owner”. Rule C: Environmental Management point 9: “Vacant stands must be kept clean to the satisfaction of the Association. Owners are responsible to remove rubble dumped on their erven, even if dumped by others. Failing which the Association shall remove the rubble, at the cost of the owner”.

Aesthetic Plan – Division: Owners are reminded to read the new SPLUMA Legislation and to have their approved Tshwane building plans and Occupancy Certificates in order. The property must match the approved Tshwane building plan, with the relevant Occupancy Certificate – this includes Sectional Title Units and Full Title Homes. Approved Tshwane building plans and occupancy certificates can be obtained from the Council. On a weekly basis, the Aesthetics Committee Members come across properties that do not match the Approved Tshwane building plans, due to amendments that were made, or other changes that are seen, and when the owner wants to sell, the plans do not match the property. Please note: the HOA cannot be held liable for any oversight, costs, or delays. The new owner of the property takes full responsibility of the property when the property is purchased, therefore he must ensure at his own cost that the property purchased matches the plan, with a relevant Occupancy Certificate. NB: before placing your property on the market – ensure that the Estate Agent you use, is registered with the HOA office. Amendments: I refer to my article found on our website: www. the-wilds.co.za, in the E-Trumpeter Magazine dated January

2021 pg. 6 & 7 that states the guidelines, if amendments were made, or any other deviations. Please note when connecting to the website: do not enter your Username or Password - the headings above will show: E-Trumpeter. Solar panel installations: Full Title Homes: The HOA requires the following: hand drawings on an approved Tshwane Roof Plan, indicating the size of each panel, the number of panels & the total coverage. Neighbour and HOA approval are required. After installation, a COC must be submitted to the HOA office. Sectional Title Units: The HOA requires a resolution taken at an AGM, with a COC after installation. Please note a solar geyser, or any form of water tank may not be installed on top of the roof. If so, the geyser or tank must be screened, so that it is aesthetically pleasing, and not visible from the road. Gas Certificates: If gas was installed the HOA requires a Gas Certificate. Frequently asked questions: 1. I have enclosed my stoep. Do I need approval? Answer: Yes, approval is required from the HOA, Tshwane and a

New Occupancy Certificate. The HOA will also require a resolution for Sectional Title units. 2. I have a pool, but do not see the pool on my approved Tshwane Plans. Do I need to submit amended plans? Answer: Yes, approval is required from: Neighbours, the HOA and Tshwane. 3. Carports? Answer: As per HOA rules -all carports are currently illegal structures. Gardening: Chaired by Mr Rupert Oberholster Hard work has been the motto for the past month and it can be seen in our gardens. Even during the very dormant winter period, a lot of changes have been brought about, with a distinct impression created that our gardens will blossom in spring like never before. In the coming month a lot of attention will be given to the pathways and related aspects of the “hard garden” part of the renewal project.

WHAT YOU NEED: • • • • • • • • •

RECIPE OF THE MONTH:

1 kg beef fillet 1 onion 4 garlic cloves 1/2 tsp black pepper 1 tbsp tomato paste 1 tomato — grated fresh thyme store-bought puff pastry egg — beaten

METHOD: 1. 2. 3. 4.

Cut fillet into small sizeable pieces. Fry until golden brown. Add onion and garlic and black pepper. Add tomato paste, tomato and thyme. Add water and simmer on low heat for 30 minutes. Remember fillet is softer than other cuts, so you might need to adjust cooking time accordingly. 5. Once pie filling has cooled down, roll some puff pastry. Generously fill an oven proof dish with the fillet filling. Cover it will puff pastry. Brush with egg wash and making a small opening on the top. 6. Bake at 160 degrees Celsius for 20 minutes or until puff pastry is golden brown.
