A word from the Security Manager (CONT.)

The Residential Estate has a policy or estate rules which needs to be enforced. This is achieved through the anonymous Tipp- offs received by the on- site control room and the responding of patrollers. Patrollers also come across behaviour not in adherence to the estate rules in the performance of their duties and it is security’s responsibility to then handle the matter intelligently and discretionally through contraventions. Should the resident deems it unfair he/she may appeal to the Dispute Management Committee who will decide whether to process the contravention notice. We as security

South Africans should prepare for a third wave of COVID-19 infections (Viki Mohamad/Unsplash)

Communicable Diseases Alliance webinar hosted on Thursday.

Since the first case recorded in March 2020, South Africa has experienced two waves of COVID-19 infections, the second deadlier than the first. Now experts are warning Slowing transmission through behaviour change Jassat warned that South Africa had to slow the rate of infection to avoid overwhelming a third, even deadlier wave could be approaching. hospitals. “The lessons ahead of the third wave is that it is likely to come, it is likely to be bigger than the first two waves, if the evidence from other countries is anything to “The important thing is that we need to slow down transmission so that we do not go by,” said Dr Waasila Jassat, a public health specialist at the National Institute for have a rapid increase in cases, because that is when the hospitals do not cope. Third Wave of COVID-19... (CONT.)

A resurgence in transmission is driven by behaviour change and is likely to particularly affect communities that have relatively low levels of transmission to date. “Areas that experienced large epidemics during the first and second waves may be less affected by a third wave driven by behaviour change,” Jassat said. “What we saw in South Africa was that most districts and provinces were affected more significantly in wave two that they were in wave one. So, the were higher level of cases, admissions and death in wave two,”. Too early for vaccine to have effect So far, South Africa has vaccinated 283,629 people, all of which have been with the Johnson and Johnson vaccine. While the vaccine rollout has begun among health workers, Jassat believes the COVID-19 vaccines is highly unlikely to have any substantial effect on the infection rate before the fourth quarter of 2021.

“Vaccine administration is currently taking place only via J&J phase 3b clinical trial, primarily to health care workers. Confirmed timelines for acquisition and rollout of COVID-19 vaccinations in South Africa have not been released and it is unlikely that COVID-19 vaccines will have a substantial indirect effect before the fourth quarter of 2021,” said Jassat.— Health-e News. When making use of the common areas, social distancing must be practiced. Let’s work together in curbing this virus and keeping our residents safe. 9 April 2021 | Ndivhuwo Mukwevho

Working from home during COVID-19: WORKING FROM HOME IS AN EMPLOYER’S WAY OF KEEPING ITS EMPLOYEES WHO HAVE THE CAPACITY TO DO SO, SAFE DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. BUT WORKING FROM HOME DOES NOT COME WITHOUT ITS CHALLENGES.

Employees have more distractions working from home, noise disturbance is one of the biggest challenges. Employees find it hard to focus working from home, distractions such as social media, children, pets, garden services can change their focus. Employees with children might look at setting up a workstation in a separate room or guest room where they can have privacy and quiet time, taking your pet for an early morning walk so that they are less energetic and distracting during the day, and finding out the schedules of the garden services can assist when scheduling online meetings. The trend towards flexible work arrangements is not slowing down, in fact its gaining momentum with the continual lockdowns imposed to curb the COVID-19 virus. It is extremely important to establish a heathy routine and set out strong boundaries between work life and home life.
