An historic hit for 80 years in Glass House Ninety people from across the generations came together on Saturday, July 13 to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the building that is now home to the Glass House Mountains Neighbourhood Centre. This historic milestone event gave the quaint building a new lease of life. The hall was filled with people reconnecting and sharing stories of their times in the building. Uncle Alan Parsons opened with a welcome to country and Neighbourhood Centre president Carolyn Roberts gave an historic account of the building over the past 80 years. Cr Rick Baberowski gave Lisa Malcom, a speech of support, Natasha Odgers and calling buildings such Uncle Alan Parsons as this as “an anchor of communities”.

All sang happy birthday to the building when a big cake, generously donated by CJ’s Bakery, was cut and shared to mark the occasion. Original member of the Neighbourhood Centre, Joan Young, did the honours of cutting the Joan Young cutting anniversary cake. cake A highlight of the event was the newly formed choir of the Neighbourhood Centre, who filled the width of the building with men and women singing their hearts out. The choir wore blue ribbons to honour the original choir who sang in the building. Photos, memorabilia and a memoir book were on display for guests to get a glimpse of the past occasions held in the building. Many people reunited over Devonshire tea and scones and stayed on for the lunch stalls.

The anniversary booklet featuring photo memories of the past 80 years is available for $20 at the Glass House Mountains Neighbourhood Centre, 1 Ryan Street.
