Welcome to Mooloolah
Mooloolah community groups at welcome dinner

Lion Louise Petherick with Bernie Verwayen from the Men's Shed Committee
Guest speakers from three local community groups will be at the Welcome to Mooloolah Valley and District Dinner, hosted by the Mooloolah Valley Lions Club, for residents who have moved to the area in the past couple of years.
Representatives from Mooloolah Valley Community Centre (MVCA), the Rural Fire Brigade and the Mooloolah Valley Men’s Shed will talk about the work they do in the community.
One of the speakers, MVCA secretary Anita Verwayen, spoke on behalf of the management committee and volunteers on the work that the community centre does in and for the community.
“We are self-funded and do not receive any funding from state or federal governments. We do receive a community partnership grant from the Sunshine Coast Council each year to cover rates, phone/internet and insurance.
“All monies raised come from our fantastic Mooloolah Op Shop and from philanthropic grants. This keeps the community centre’s doors open and enables us to offer services and programs to the community at little or no charge, such as monthly community barbeques and the annual Christmas party. We also support events at the Mooloolah Public Hall and Morris House at Landsborough’s welfare programs,” Anita said.
Bernie Verwayen, a member of the Men’s Shed committee and committee member of the MVCA, will also be a guest speaker at the dinner.
Bernie recently met with Lion Louise Petherick as a representative of the Men’s Shed and the MVCA.
The proposed Men’s Shed, which will be situated at the rear of the community centre, will be a great asset to the community.
Federal Member for Fisher Andrew Wallace has confirmed that $250,000 funding will be provided to build the shed.
To hear more about what these community groups and other groups do in the local area come to the welcome dinner and make new friends. Local groups will have displays and there will be a raffle and lucky door prizes. A bar will be available.
The event will be held on Wednesday, August 7 at the Mooloolah State School Hall at 6pm for 6.45pm. The dinner will be catered for by The Orangery Maleny with canapes on arrival, main and dessert.
