much longer for brands to commit to exhibiting, but I’m delighted to be able to confirm that most of the brands we were speaking to at the back end of 2024 are now firmly placed on the floorplan.

“To be able to deliver a record-breaking FIT Show with the backdrop the whole industry is facing is a real indicator of the strength and resilience of the sector.

"The businesses that are investing in marketing now and supporting their customers by having a presence at their only trade show, are the ones who will reap the benefits over the coming months.

YES, IT’S AN EVER-CHANGING WORLD

The Times They Are a-Changin' sang Bob Dylan back in 1964. I was about to leave school and start my career as an Agricultural Auctioneer selling livestock in the markets of Somerset. Happy days, full of expectation and adventure and Dylan was a sing-a-long companion from the car radio as the weekends saw us surfing the breaks around the West Country, cooking up Vesta boil-in-the-bag curries on a primus stove in the Mini after four hours or so in the water. How we didn’t drown or, indeed, set fire to the car I’ll never know! Innocent times. Times when the constabulary would rap you over the knuckles and say “don’t be so daft, lads” as we were stopped while passing slabs of bread and jam between two Minis on the M4 driving down to the Mumbles in South Wales. How things have changed.

Why, you may well ask, is the old boy rambling on about times past? I was thinking of everything that is going on now: the conflicts around the world, the political upheaval in almost every country, the vast difference between the haves and the have nots and how these things effect our daily lives – and Dylan’s words popped into my head. Some 60 years ago it was the start of protest songs against the unfairness in the world, wars, even climate change and he wrote “come senators, congressmen, please heed the call”. And nobody did, and still don’t to this day. Jeepers! I’m getting quite depressed! Much of this depression was ignited by hearing that Dutemann has closed its doors and we feel for Martin James and his staff much as we do for those at Dempsey Dyer when they shut down recently. When companies such as these are closing the doors you just know times are tough. I was thinking about this as I was talking with VastPR’s Paul Godwin and he was telling me how statistics are showing that saving – stuffing your cash into ISAs, stocks and shares or simply in wads under the mattress, is having a serious effect on retail sales. Uncertainty breeds this sort of behaviour as confidence is diluted to the point that we look ahead and wonder how we’ll make it through to our three score years and ten, and hopefully a bit more, not knowing whether we’ll have to look for £000s per month to keep us in a care home in our old age. This directly impacts the likes of home improvement. Many projects require substantial outlays of cash so it’s not just a case of a few quid being released from your wallet. Is there an easy answer to this conundrum? Probably not. However, as we see some businesses closing down we see others taking the opportunity to widen their base of activities ready for the roundabout to come round to the other side so they can take advantage of the following boom. I say ‘boom’ and you may be sceptical about that

term but I’m a firm believer in everything being cyclical, from the changing climate to economic conditions. How long before the good times roll? That’s another question but companies such as Eurocell with their acquisition of Alunet, including Comp Door, JDUK and UK Doors (Midlands) see an opportunity to further their 5 year aim to become a £500 million revenue company. Similarly, Assa Abloy with their Yale and Union brands and sales of close to €12.3 billion, has acquired Senior Architectural Systems. We also see significant investment in our sector such as Padiham Glass, part of the Emplas empire, investing in a new fully automatic Forel line, Mi Glass getting ready for the arrival of a new production line plus many more examples of companies investing for the future. So it’s not all doom and gloom by any means but it does require our government to encourage everyone rather than put them in fits of depression.

I’m an avid reader of Danny Williams’ Cold Calling column: it’s irreverent, challenging and close to the knuckle but -hey! – he talks a lot of sense. Having just mentioned ‘doom and gloom’ and ‘depression’ Danny’s column has lifted my spirits, making me wish we could ensconce Danny in No 10. It would, no doubt, be an interesting premiership and make Boris’ time at the helm look like a gentle and sensible ride – but oh what fun! Much of what Danny has suggested, with tongue in cheek I’m sure, I would happily sign up to! That could of course have much to do with my great age and the fact that I shan’t have to live with the consequences for very long!

The FIT Show looms ever closer and the constant updates from Nickie West and her team promise a great show with something for all. Companies are still signing up for exhibition space and I look forward to the emails and to seeing who has joined the party. Whether it’s a sign of the times, I don’t know, or perhaps there are ever more chancers around but pretty much every day I receive emails from unknown companies offering attendee lists for FIT 2025, and not just the odd one but multiple organisations on a daily basis. Interestingly, none of the emails look very professional and there are some really dubious email addresses - I think I’ll give them a miss!

GARDEN ROOMS & PATIOS

YOUR DOORS, YOUR WAY

Quickslide’s innovative QuickGlide slide and fold door system opens up new horizons for both homeowners and installers, explains Managing Director Ben Weber.

Spring has officially sprung, and thoughts turn once again to the enduring appeal of indoor-outdoor living. Bi-fold sales have soared in recent years as an optimum way to achieve this, proving popular with homeowners who have the space to fold them back and let the outside in. Patio sliders, however, continue to quietly hold their own too, as a practical and flexible space-saving solution suited to the inclement British weather.

And then Quick-Glide stormed the market. Launched last year by Quickslide, QuickGlide is a slide and fold door system that proved instantly popular with installers and homeowners alike. Designed as a hybrid between traditional bi-fold and sliding patio doors, it combines the benefits of both, offering unparalleled flexibility, aesthetic appeal and practical functionality.

“Modern homeowners want more than just a door – they want a seamless connection between home and garden, unrestricted views and ultimate flexibility,” says Quickslide’s Managing Director Ben Weber. “Our Quick-Glide slide and fold system

delivers exactly that, making conventional bi-fold and sliding doors look out-dated by comparison.”

The inspiration for Quick-Glide came from recognising the limitations of conventional door systems, explains Ben: “Bi-fold doors offer those incredible wide openings, but require a large concertina swing arc that can be impractical in tighter spaces or smaller homes. Sliding patio doors, on the other hand, suit any size space, but have that restricted opening width – although being able to just partially open them is also practical and appealing for much more of the year.

“Quick-Glide was developed as a solution to offer the best of both with no compromises, as each panel operates independently to allow for various configurations – whether that’s a fully-stacked opening, partially open for ventilation or a closed set-up that maximises light and views.”

A FOCUS ON DESIGN

Quick-Glide’s aesthetic appeal is one of its strongest selling points. Engineered with ultra-slim sightlines, the system allows for maximum connection to outdoor space and light. Unlike traditional door systems it features no visible hardware aside from the main handle, ensuring a clean, contemporary finish. Crafted from aluminium, the frame is durable and designed to perform in all weathers, and is available in black, white or anthracite grey, all with the option of a white interior.

“Proven to perform,” says Ben. “Quick-Glide has undergone extensive weather, security, and cycle testing – demonstrating its ability to perform well in real-life conditions. It’s the ideal solution for homeowners looking for both style and substance.”

THE TRADE VIEW

Quick-Glide offers significant advantages for trade customers too. Its innovative design provides a compelling selling point that differentiates it from conventional doors in the market. Quickslide has invested heavily in marketing and sales tools that reflect this, and which support its trade partners to generate more sales. Resources such as in-depth product training and the bespoke Quick-Glide On-Screen configurator allow installers to showcase the system effectively, helping customers visualise their ideal door setup.

The Quick-Glide On-Screen marketing tool also comes complete with a lead generation and CRM system upgrade, to streamline the sales process and improve customer engagement. And Quick-Glide even excels during the installation process too, with its innovative ‘tap in’ bead design that simplifies the fitting process, saving precious time.

“We launched Quick-Glide after significant market testing and investments in R&D, taking crucial steps overlooked by similar products rushed to market,” says Ben. “We worked closely with our systems partner Invisifold and our trade partners to refine

the design and ensure it meets the needs of both installers and homeowners and adds a truly exceptional and attractive addition to our installers’ portfolios.

“As a result, Quick-Glide has already been embraced by over 50 of our trade partners since it launched. Our partners have appreciated the strong support we provide, while homeowners have responded enthusiastically to Quick-Glide’s combination of style, functionality and ease of use.

“Quickslide caters to the enduring appeal of opening living spaces up and creating seamless transitions between inside and out. With its sleek design, superior performance and installer-friendly features we believe Quick-Glide is positioned to become the go-to choice for trade professionals and homeowners alike.

“More people are looking for innovative alternatives to the choice between traditional patio sliders or bi-fold doors. And now with Quick-Glide they’ve got it.” www.quickslide.co.uk

SPRING FORWARD WITH COLOUR: THE ELYSIAM COLOUR CAST COLLECTION

HELPING THE TRADE MEET THE DEMAND FOR PREMIUM COLOURED WINDOWS

As demand for coloured PVC-U and aluminium windows continues to rise, Armstrong Industries, itself established in 1996, is celebrating ten years of successful custom colour coatings with Elysiam Colour Cast.

Since its launch in 2015, Elysiam Colour Cast has become an industry-leading solution for fabricators and installers looking to provide bespoke, high-performance colour coatings. Designed as a durable and cost-effective alternative to traditional foiled finishes. Elysiam Colour Cast allows businesses to offer custom colour options for windows, doors, trims, and even hardware, creating high-margin sales opportunities while meeting growing consumer demand.

With Spring approaching, now is the perfect time for window installers and fabricators to explore how coloured window coatings can transform their product range. Homeowners are increasingly looking for ways to personalise their properties, and colour has become a crucial selling point in modern fenestration.

10 YEARS OF INNOVATION IN WINDOW COATINGS

Marking a decade of success, Elysiam Colour Cast has become a trusted name in window coatings, offering a 10-year warranty and long-term performance benefits. Its advanced formulation incorporates low-carbon pigments, significantly reducing UV retention to ensure colour longevity and stability. The range is available in an extensive selection of colours, including RAL, Pantone, Dulux, NCS, Renolit, and Farrow & Ball. It can be applied to PVC-U, aluminium, and window hardware, allowing fabricators and installers to offer fully customised solutions that go beyond standard foil finishes.

John Armstrong, Managing Director of Armstrong Industries, explains how market trends are shifting; “In the retail window industry, coloured finishes now account for over 50% of the market. While PVC-U foils have attempted to meet this demand, they limit true customisation. The Elysiam Colour Cast Collection allows window companies to offer a truly tailored colour

service – meeting consumer demand while adding value and increasing revenue.”

HIGH-PERFORMANCE COATING TECHNOLOGY FOR TRADE APPLICATIONS

Elysiam Colour Cast is a polyurethane acrylic coating that chemically bonds to the substrate, providing superior adhesion and long-term durability. Unlike traditional foil films, which can be prone to tear damage on site, Elysiam Colour Cast offers exceptional resistance to scratches.

John Armstrong adds; “We've scratch tested both foiled and painted profiles and the Elysiam outperforms the foil every time" Elysiam is also UV stable having been tested in accelerated laboratory conditions ensuring vibrant colour retention in all conditions, maintaining a flawless finish over time.”

COLOUR ACCURACY

Armstrong Industries offers a seamless production process. Elysiam is applied to

the companies own fabricated Kommerling windows and aluminium products or customers own windows and trims can be collected and delivered. Using Its in-house Colour Match software and CNC precision mixing machinery provides consistent and accurate results every time. Armstrong adds; “There are at least four different 7016 colours in the window industry meaning accurate colour matching is vital to guarantee exact colour match before full application. Colour swatch matching samples can also be provided upon request.”

TRADE SUPPORT AND SPRING PROMOTIONS

To help trade counters and installers showcase the impact of colour coatings to potential customers, Armstrong Industries provides comprehensive marketing support, including colour samples of PVC-U corners or hand window samples, Elysiam Colour Cast brochures, and point-of-sale display stands for trade counters and showrooms. To celebrate the arrival of Spring and Elysiam's ten year anniversary, Armstrong Industries is offering 100 free colour corner samples while stocks last.

For trade professionals, coloured window coatings provide a powerful way to stand out in a competitive market. By incorporating the Elysiam Colour Cast Collection into their offering, window companies can deliver a fully customisable, premium solution that enhances both range and importantly value added sales.

In 1985 REHAU pioneered the first commercially viable uPVC sash window, in response to a request from The Peabody Trust, a long-standing not-for-profit housing association with a large stock of Victorian housing in London. The cost and difficulty of maintaining original sash windows led the Trust to speak to REHAU about developing a low-maintenance, high performance heritage-based replacement.

r t s a n d

REHAU turned to Roseview to help overcome the fabrication and installation issues that come with a new product. Within three years of that initial project Roseview had pivoted to become the UK’s first dedicated uPVC sash window manufacturer.

Fully supported by REHAU throughout, today Roseview is recognised as manufacturer of the UK’s most authentic uPVC sash windows, based on REHAU’s world class profiles.

Roseview and REHAU recently celebrated the anniversary with a two-day event in Olney and London. Senior Management from both companies got together for a tour of Roseview’s facility, meetings in Olney and London and a social event. The celebrations will continue when Roseview visits REHAU’s extrusion facility in Blaenau Ffestiniog later this year.

Talking of their long-standing partnership, Roseview managing director Richard Burrells said: “REHAU has

been a key part of Roseview’s success over the last 40 years. We’re widely regarded as the leading uPVC sash window manufacturer, thanks in no small part to REHAU’s continued support. We’re particularly well known for product innovation; it’s difficult to imagine how that could have happened without our close relationship with REHAU.”

Commenting on the anniversary, REHAU’s UK and Ireland Chief Executive Martin Hitchin said: “We have cemented what is a long-standing and successful partnership between REHAU and Roseview. Roseview are constantly pushing us with ideas to improve and develop the Heritage sash window line. It’s great to see a fabricator like Roseview embracing the relationship with their systems house, helping us both lead the sash window market in partnership.

“The five pillars of Trust, Reliability, Innovation, Efficiency and Sustainability have enabled our partnership to go from strength to strength and we look forward to continuing our partnership for many years to come.”

GARNALEX REVEALS PLANS FOR THE FUTURE AS PLANNING PERMISSION GRANTED

Garnalex, currently based in Nether Heage, Derbyshire, has secured planning permission for a purpose-built development near junction 27 of the M1. The facility will enable the company to prioritise sustainable growth, increase jobs, and improve transport links.

As well as moving all current employees, the project will create new jobs and long-term employment opportunities for the area. Work is due to commence in the spring and will take between 18 months to two years to complete.

The development has been split into two phases. The first phase will see a new manufacturing site being built to cater for the existing Sheerline business, enabling the company to continue its everyday operations without disruption to service.

Phase two of the development allows for future expansion of the site, helping to keep jobs in the Ashfield district long-term. The fact that this additional expansion was applied for at the same time as phase one reflects the company’s ambitious yet sustainable growth plans.

Aside from ensuring the building is as green and sustainable as possible, it will be built with a façade that blends in with its natural surroundings, and there will be wildlife corridors and tree planting to mitigate the impact of the development.

As well as environmental considerations, care is also being taken to support the road network around the site to ensure easy access to the M1 while keeping lorries out of residential areas. A sustainable cycleway/footway will be built alongside the development as part of phase two.

After successfully launching two fenestration businesses in Derbyshire, Roger Hartshorn founded Garnalex in 2018 as a solution to the UK’s reliance on imported aluminium. In 2024, it was recognised as the ninth fastest growing company on the Oresa Growth Index.

Sheerline, Garnalex’s aluminium window and door systems house, was launched in 2020. It has gained industry-wide recognition by challenging what is expected from an aluminium company, achieving awards for both its products and people.

All this success has come in a relatively short time despite challenging external circumstances including the Covid pandemic and subsequent cost of living crisis. This not only shows the company has got the formula right, but that there is an appetite for UK aluminium.

Roger Hartshorn, Garnalex’s CEO, said: “We’re thrilled to bring this development to Ashfield. Garnalex is ambitious and we have plans to expand further and create hundreds more jobs in the coming years.”

To find out more about Sheerline, visit the website www.sheerline.com or contact the team directly on 01332 978 000.

FROM OFFICES TO HOUSING: CAVENHAM COURT’S WINDOW AND DOOR JOURNEY

Situated near Heathrow Airport on the 10-acre Hyde Park Hayes campus, Cavenham Court boasts 113 apartments in its seven-storey structure. Yet it was not first designed with homes in mind, having previously been used as an office block.

Converting the building from commercial to residential use posed unique challenges that would affect all elements of its fabric, including windows and doors. This was the situation facing Midpoint Windows (Midpoint), a Birminghambased installer. When the company wished to submit a tender bid for the Cavenham Court project, it needed to ensure it could supply frames and glass that would meet exacting performance standards.

Given the building’s proximity to Heathrow airport, acoustics were of particular importance, with a strict 41dBRw acoustic rating expected on all windows and doors, which also needed to achieve a minimum wind loading of 801 pascals Finally, as part of the architect’s design, many of the apartments at Cavenham Court required Juliet balconies.

TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE AND EXPERTISE

Faced with these requirements, Midpoint sought out the technical expertise of its long-term partner and supplier, REHAU. The polymer solutions manufacturer was engaged to recommend best possible window and door solutions for the project and work closely with its associated fabricators to provide Midpoint with high-performing products, as Stuart Hill, Managing Director at Midpoint Windows, explains.

“The key for us on this project was that we could provide a whole package,” he says.

“While it was crucial that we provided windows and doors that met wind and weather performance ratings including coupled elements, the balcony requirements added another level of complexity.

“REHAU’s assistance was key to our success at the tendering stage, and to the completion of this project. We’ve worked with the company for years and have a good working relationship, and their support was invaluable in multiple areas, including initial calculations around acoustics and wind loads for detailed specification plans. We all worked hard to guarantee our bid was as strong as it could possibly be, right down to REHAU working closely with glass suppliers to ensure the appropriate performance levels were achieved with their frames.”

SWITCHING TO SKYFORCE

Though the architect had originally specified steel bar balconies as part of the building’s original design, the practical benefits of REHAU’s SKYFORCE’s Juliet balcony solution led to a change in plans. Specifically, as SKYFORCE was developed to fit discreetly into modern facades such as those found at Cavenham Court, its concealed attachment system meant it did not have to be fitted to face brickwork or render detail.

By contrast, installing steel bar balconies would require drilling into the building exterior to fit handrails, increasing the risk of water ingress and unsightly discoloration over time. As SKYFORCE could alleviate this risk without additional works while also adhering to current Building Regulations, switching over to this solution was a logical move.

“SKYFORCE was the ideal product for this particular project and demonstrated REHAU’s credentials as a whole system provider,” says Steve Tonkiss, Head of Sales South at REHAU Windows. “Not only could

we assist with windows and doors on this specific building, we could also provide added benefits through a Juliet balcony that could be integrated within these REHAU systems.

“Alongside reducing fitting time for Midpoint, REHAU’s status as a whole system provider meant they could procure windows, doors and balcony products from a single source. Consequently, they did not need to go out to another contractor to provide a traditional steelbarred Juliet balcony, further simplifying the project processes, as well as reducing the lead time for completion. Midpoint could instead easily offer a solution that complies with current building regulations, complements contemporary architecture, and provides Cavenham Court residents with unobstructed views.”

COMPLETING THE PROJECT

REHAU supplied 96 SKYFORCE balconies and 600 TOTAL70 windows and doors in total over the eight weeks Midpoint were on-site at the Cavenham Court project. As all TOTAL70 frames are independently tested to achieve the highest BSI ratings for wind, water and air, Midpoint could also enjoy peace-of-mind that all apartment occupants would benefit from the frames’ A+ Window Energy Rating (WER) – the highest possible – which would help reduce the cost of heating. Similarly, its noise reduction qualities meant TOTAL70 was well-suited to block out noise from nearby Heathrow airport, while its PAS24 security accreditation provided added reassurance. Alongside supplying balconies, windows and doors, REHAU helped optimise delivery processes and on-site installation processes in line with Midpoint’s requirements. This included providing jigs for its fabricator network so holes could be drilled into door frames and the base bracket installed ahead of their arrival onsite, where the installers would fit the glass,

external plates and other finishing details. As a result, fitting time could be reduced to 15 minutes per balcony without a drop in installation quality.

FLEXIBLE SUPPLY CHAINS

Additionally, REHAU’s adaptability was a major benefit for Midpoint, with the company able to utilise its expertise and established, continent-wide, supply chain to procure ancillary components for larger door frames specified in the architect’s original designs. This included supplying larger transoms and couplers alongside additional steel reinforcement for these specific systems, while also providing practical proof of the performance levels of these larger profiles.

“We hugely appreciated the flexibility REHAU brought to these works,” Stuart concludes. “Knowing we could rely on their support network for technical advice and outstanding premium quality products, was key to winning this particular project. Beyond this, we were very impressed with REHAU’s ability to provide non-standard items you wouldn’t normally see stocked at short notice.

“This may have been an issue with other suppliers, but the REHAU team were able to take it in their stride. It’s this level of support that makes them stand out and has been the backbone of our relationship with the company.

“REHAU’s combination of excellent customer service and leading premium products has been instrumental at Cavenham Court and other commercial projects we’ve undertaken with their assistance. Their technical team are quick to respond and provide solutions whatever the issue might be, and that’s something we’ve always appreciated.”

LEADS 2 TRADE BECOMES FENSA’S APPROVED LEAD GENERATION PARTNER

Leads 2 Trade, the UK's leading provider of double-qualified sales leads to the home improvement industry, has announced a strategic partnership with FENSA to deliver exclusive benefits for installers.

FENSA Approved Installers will receive a 10% discount on both premium and hot key leads from Leads 2 Trade, subject to postcode availability, with flexible account options designed to suit businesses of all sizes.

As part of the link-up, Leads 2 Trade's installer members will benefit from a reduction on their FENSA application fee.

Andy Royle, Director and co-founder of Leads 2 Trade, commented: “FENSA approached us last autumn to discuss a potential collaboration and we are delighted to partner with them and become FENSA’s approved third-party lead generation partner.

“It’s fantastic for our installers to be able to get a reduction on their FENSA application fee and we are looking forward to helping FENSA Approved installers secure a regular stream of double qualified sales leads.

“There's plenty of work out there but installers have to work a little harder for it now, particularly in the current climate. Our lead generation models provide them with the best chance of securing work; we can provide them with doublequalified leads how, and when, they want them.”

Leads 2 Trade receives hundreds of applications yearly from installers eager to join their lead network, but many don’t have the right self-certification scheme in place, and Andy added: “We can confidently refer them to FENSA as one of the leading providers of this essential service, ensuring consumers using our free quotes service have the peace of mind that all members we put forward have appropriate certification in place through the largest competent person scheme in the industry.

“Our partnership with FENSA reinforces our commitment to maintaining the highest professional standards across our installer network.”

Premium leads from Leads 2 Trade include fixed appointments and their 'no pitch, no fee' guarantee, ensuring installers only pay for the leads they sit and pitch. For businesses seeking immediate contact, their hot key leads can be connected directly to sales teams in real-time.

Indeed, it was this lead quality that attracted FENSA to Leads 2 Trade. Despite already having a lead generation system available for members, the company wanted to do more explained Lis Clarke, FENSA's Operations Director.

“FENSA provides our Approved Installers with a suite of free industry leading benefits that wouldn't otherwise be

available on the high street,” said Lis, “and when we asked our members what they'd want from a third-party lead generation company, they said leads that are qualified against set criteria and come with a fixed and firm appointment where the homeowner is ready to go and they have the comfort of a no pitch no fee guarantee.

“That's why Leads 2 Trade are a natural fit for FENSA and joining our benefits roster; they have built an exceptional reputation for the last 19 years for delivering results-driven leads that convert, and we are delighted to be able to offer our members exclusive access to double-qualified leads that will make a difference to them.

“This strategic partnership demonstrates our ongoing commitment to providing our members with business growth opportunities and the tools needed to succeed in today's competitive market.”

SHEERLINE WINS BEST TECHNICAL INNOVATION AT GGP INSTALLER AWARDS FOR THE THIRD TIME

Sheerline’s Prestige Reverse Butt Joint has been named Best Technical Innovation at the GGP Installer Awards. This is the third time in five years the company has been recognised with this prestigious accolade, highlighting the central role that innovation plays within the business.

When the announcement was made, the judges said it was great to see aluminium products using a reverse butt joint. The team at Sheerline couldn’t agree with this more as although this jointing method is commonly used within PVCu, it is relatively unheard of within aluminium.

This is despite the benefits it offers to installers, like streamlining installation as it eliminates the need for external glazing, reverse adaptors, and dummy sashes. This not only saves time, but money too.

It has been developed for use with the Prestige window system and is an evolution of Sheerline’s patented corner cleat. Using a unique T cleat enables fabricators to manufacture reverse butt jointed windows using the Prestige Z transom, which isn’t possible with legacy aluminium systems.

The Prestige Reverse Butt Joint joins two of Sheerline’s other well-respected products that have also achieved the title of Best Technical Innovation. In 2020, the company took home the award for its Classic Window system and in 2022, for its S1 Roof Lantern. Roger Hartshorn, Sheerline CEO, commented: “The fact we’ve won this award three times for three very

“The addition of Moonlight Anthracite to our NatureClad range means we can now offer one of the most comprehensive colour collections of contemporary, wood effect PVC cladding on the market, from neutral browns to modern greys. This allows homeowners to protect their properties in the most stylish way possible,” explains Lewis Litchfield, Product Marketing Manager at Swish Building Products.

“As well as style, NatureClad also offers substance. It’s lengthy 15-year guarantee demonstrates the confidence we have in our product, as well as providing customers with the peace of mind that they have bought cladding which is built to last,” concludes Lewis.

different products is a testament to our commitment to developing innovative, technically advanced products that not only push the boundaries of what is possible, but also put our customers first by providing them with tangible benefits.”

Martin Hepburn, Sheerline’s Area Sales Manager – South West, collected the award on behalf of the team and said: “There was a fantastic atmosphere at the ceremony, and I’m delighted to have collected the award on behalf of Sheerline. Huge thanks to the GGP team for putting on a great event.”

KESTREL ALUMINIUM SYSTEMS REACHES NEW HEIGHTS WITH 50CW CURTAIN WALL LAUNCH

Kestrel Aluminium Systems is proud to announce the launch of its new 50CW curtain wall system. Designed for all building types from ground floor to high rise projects, this system marks Kestrel’s expansion into the wider curtain wall market, offering a highperformance and cost-effective solution for aluminium fabricators across the UK. Engineered to deliver outstanding performance, the 50CW system has been rigorously tested in accordance with BS EN 13830. This ensures exceptional resistance to wind, water, and air infiltration, while providing high thermal properties as low as Uf 0.88 W/m2K.

The transom-to-transom façade design significantly reduces material waste, as

fabricators can use the same profile for both mullions and transoms. A single, universal glazing rebate gasket, used on both mullion and transom, simplifies stock management and installation.

Innovation of the gasket design provides any number of drainage levels for maximum design freedom and maintains the overlap drainage principle at all joints. Combined with the flex injection assembly process, consistent and reliable sealing of these connections is ensured. This reduces fabrication time and optimises performance in demanding commercial applications.

Designed to integrate seamlessly with Kestrel’s existing product range, the new curtain wall system complements the company’s 75mm

window and ground floor treatments, as well as its commercial door systems. This provides a visually consistent and practical solution for complete façade projects.

“We are delighted to introduce the 50CW, our latest, advanced curtain wall system,” said Crispin Jedrzejewski, Head of Technical & Design at Kestrel Aluminium Systems. “Our approach focuses on delivering performancedriven, easy-to-fabricate solutions that meet the evolving needs of the UK construction market. The 50CW offers fabricators a robust, efficient, and high-quality system that delivers flexibility and longevity.”

With its combination of exceptional performance, easy fabrication, and seamless compatibility with other Kestrel products,

The business is now talking to both existing and potential Certified Installers about how it can support them in becoming TrustMark Registered and making the most of the benefits it offers, from access to funding schemes and business support to customers’ leads through its platforms.

MAKING SURE YOUR ROOF LIGHT INSTALLATION DOESN’T FALL THROUGH

Rooflights are a popular way to improve the quality of a space by increasing levels of natural light. However, not all rooflights provide the same levels of safety for occupants due to the glass they use, or their design. Here Tony Isaac, Sales Director from Brett Martin discusses the difference between laminated and toughened glass and how the design of a rooflight can impact safety for installers and building occupants alike.

Understandably, in recent years rooflights have risen in popularity given they have such a significant impact on helping to make a space feel more inviting; flooding rooms with natural light and helping to achieve well documented health benefits, such as improving concentration and enhancing your mood. However, it is crucial to make an informed decision when selecting a rooflight and to understand the various safety implications when installing them.

THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF GLASS

Different types of glass offer a wide range of solutions in terms of function, performance and aesthetic. The most popular options for rooflights are laminated and toughened glass as they both have characteristics that make them suitable for different applications. However, it is important to be clear on the differences.

Toughened glass – also known as tempered glass – is created by heating a piece of float glass to over 600°C, before rapidly cooling it to alter its initial structure. As a result, this makes it tougher than standard glass. Although highly resistant to impact, it can still break if tools are dropped onto it or if there is damage to the edges during delivery or installation, which could cause the pane to shatter and rain glass into the kitchen or living space below.

Laminated glass is often the preferred solution, as it comprises two layers of float glass with a polymer layer bonded between them. This means that if the glass breaks, the polymer will form a spider-web pattern to hold the pieces in place, rather than allowing the glass to fall onto people below.

In fact, British Standards state that the inner pane of a rooflight should always be constructed from laminated glass, if the rooflight is placed more than five metres above floor level. The Rooflight Association also recommends that the best solution combines a toughened outer and a laminated inner pane, unless a stringent risk assessment has been undertaken.

TO FRAME OR NOT TO FRAME

A new trend, designed to cut the cost of rooflights has led to the availability of units without an aluminium frame. Although these low cost frameless rooflights offer a sleek aesthetic, the lack of frame means they are only secured to the roof with silicone sealant. This can lead to potential safety issues, as over time the silicone can degrade leading to water ingress and leaks or in the

worst-case scenario – total failure of the rooflight if exposed to sustained and severe weather.

The Rooflight Association has in fact reported incidents where frameless rooflights have failed, causing rooflights to fall into the space below. This can happen if the inner panes are not supported properly and hang from the outer pane by a failed non-structural seal.

In contrast, rooflights with an aluminium frame, such as Brett Martin Flat Glass rooflights, provide enhanced protection and durability. These rooflights are designed with a drip edge and an integral water management system that ensures, in the unlikely event the seal around the perimeter of the glass panel should fail, any rainwater will be guided out onto the roof surface and not into the building.

The aluminium frame also provides a belt and braces approach to safety. Brett Martin Flat Glass rooflights, for example, feature glass with laminated inner panes bonded into the aluminium frame, meaning that there is no risk of damage to the inner pane from the upstand surface, and if the glass is broken for any other reason, it will be held within the frame.

In addition, Brett Martin Flat Glass rooflights are non-fragile to CWCT TN67 for class 1 or 2 roofs (depending on size), and this means for anyone accessing the roof, should they fall onto the rooflight itself – they will not fall through it.

SAFETY FIRST

Whilst rooflights continue to grow in popularity due to their aesthetic appeal and ability to bring the benefits of natural light into a building, it is absolutely essential that installers consider the safety considerations surrounding them. By selecting the right type of glass and a robust, well-designed frame from a trusted manufacturer that can offer technical guidance – you can then rest assured that your rooflight installation will have the highest levels of safety and perform as intended for the long-term.

FOREL UK & IRELAND ARE PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THEIR PARTICIPATION IN FIT SHOW 2025

Forel’s commitment to automation through innovation has never been stronger as is its commitment to showcase at every opportunity worldwide.

At FIT Show 2025 Forel UK & Ireland will exhibit for the first time showing the very latest advancements in machine technology producing the highest quality products in the most efficient way possible that deliver our customers a significant competitive edge.

Forel, recently awarded for machine innovation at the G Awards for its work on “Skinny triple” sealed units and is recognition that the company’s goal to add relevance and value to the markets and customers it serves.

As legislative changes emerge the need for new or improved products to achieve the requirement become ever present and Forel has developed its range accordingly.

Brian McDonald CEO Forel UK & Ireland commented “The FIT Show represents the largest trade show for the UK window, door and glass industry, and it delivers us an opportunity to present our vision of what is needed to facilitate change” Although Forel’s direct presence within the UK & Irish territory has been relatively short it has been present in both markets for nearly 50 years. The experience, knowledge and expertise of the UK & Ireland team is equally strong, complimented by direct support from Forel headquarters in Treviso Italy. Brian remarked “Having a direct presence within the UK that is available and responsive to

Visitors will have the unique opportunity to see FOREL’s cuttingedge machine technology in action on the big screen as part of their stand, including their awardwinning ‘Skinny triple’ sealed units.

customer need is crucial, as is the ability to service those needs with direct sales, technical, and spare part support”.

Forel has a renowned reputation for exhibiting on a global scale and testament to that is the fact that Forel machines are installed in over 70 countries globally. Amongst recent events, Forel has expanded its manufacturing headquarters to 60,000 square meters making it one of the biggest independently owned machinery businesses in this sector.

Brian added: “The FOREL philosophy when it comes to exhibitions and marketing has always been to exhibits when possible, ensuring our customers can experience our technologies firsthand as well as supporting exhibitions around the world to ensure these events are supported as they bring the only one to one experience that many people have with the manufacturers.

“Visiting the FIT Show in 2025 is something that I hope all within our industry will do, especially when you consider the pace of change, what’s new and what’s possible for the future. On our stand we will be delighted to meet representatives from all aspects of the supply chain, that might directly need our machinery solutions or benefit from our technologies further downstream, to both share and discuss how together we can feasibly introduce positive change and improvements to our market.

Forel is a machinery manufacturer based in Treviso Italy and is widely recognised for

technical innovation, high performance and extended reliability. Founded by Fortunato Vianello in 1976 in humble surroundings, the company grew exponentially in terms of size, products, and service reputation. Today the manufacturing site has over 60,000 square meters of floor space and employs well over 300 people worldwide.       Nickie West, FIT Show 2025 Event Director, expressed her enthusiasm about FOREL joining the lineup: “We’re thrilled to welcome FOREL UK & Ireland to FIT Show 2025. Their commitment to automation and innovation aligns perfectly with our vision for the event. Visitors will have the unique opportunity to see FOREL’s cutting-edge machine technology in action on the big screen as part of their stand, including their award-winning ‘Skinny triple’ sealed units. With FOREL’s expanded 60,000 square meter manufacturing headquarters and their presence in over 70 countries, their participation underscores FIT Show’s status as the UK’s premier event for the window, door, and glass industry. We’re excited for attendees to experience FOREL’s latest advancements and discuss how these innovations can drive positive change in our rapidly evolving industry.”

HÖRMANN UK –MARKET LEADING DOORS FOR ALL QUICKSLIDE RAMPS UP TRADE PARTNER

Quickslide is already ahead of its competitors when it comes to market leading marketing support. However, in readiness for FIT Show 2025, the company has further added to its initiatives to create a comprehensive Trade Partner Support package designed to specifically help businesses thrive in a competitive and challenging market. This additional support, which has required taking on additional team members to its own internal marketing department, covers all aspects of marketing and is made available to all trade partners.

The enhanced support brings together the company’s full range of marketing tools, from the more tangible showroom and product demonstration products such as the recently launched wheeled sample case, to more intangible bespoke social media ad campaigns for highly targeted lead generation initiatives.

“This is absolutely next level support for our trade partners, which will give them the edge when competing against other companies in their areas,” said Quickslide’s sales director Tom Swallow. “Many of them do not have access to some of the more sophisticated tools that we can offer – they are, after all, brilliant window fitters, but probably not so brilliant digital marketeers. We can help them bridge that gap by supporting with personalised collateral that showcases their skills and success in installing beautiful windows and doors.

“Ultimately every trade partner has different ideas, different skill sets, different goals, and a one size fits all approach to offering

marketing support dilutes the overall results we know they are capable of achieving,” continued Tom. “Our aim is to ensure they have every opportunity to make consistent sales, by making the sales process itself as foolproof as possible. From product training to website configurators and lead generation tools, every opportunity has been explored and a solution found.”

While there’s no minimum entry level for accessing this marketing support, it’s the installers who become trade partners and brand ambassadors – working closely with Quickslide in a spirit of loyalty, and mutual success – that benefit the most. It’s these partnerships that foster two-way communication, allowing Quickslide to adapt its support to fit each individual company’s personality, helping them thrive in a competitive market.

The growth and development of Quickslide’s inhouse marketing team has enabled it to invest in a number of essential marketing tools which it can use to enhance campaigns for trade partners – tools which might otherwise be too expensive for smaller individual window companies.

“It’s fair to say that we have developed a good instinct for setting our trade partners on the road to success,” concluded Tom Swallow. “They do have to demonstrate a commitment and energy to collaborate proactively with us – but we find that the combined effort keeps everybody engaged and on our toes. It’s a win-win all round!”

CONNECT WITH SELECTA SYSTEMS!

PVCu window and door systems company Selecta Systems are inviting fabricators and installers to Connect at FIT Show 2025. Sales Director Andy Green and Marketing Manager Mark Walker, give you an insight into what to expect from the Birmingham based systems company and why you should Connect with Selecta at FIT Show 2025.

Andy says, “As part of our product research and development programme, we have been working closely with a number of customers. What has arisen out of these conversations and development meetings are two new products, one being a completely new addition to the ADVANCE 70 System and the other an enhancement of an existing product.”

“Without giving away too much information, the two new products will fit seamlessly into our existing ADVANCE 70 suite of profiles. Both products take advantage of our business philosophy of being fabricator and fitter friendly, whilst meeting the demands of the current and future market. Low stock holding capabilities, the use of existing hardware and simple installation continue to be key benefits. The new products will allow customers to grow their portfolio, providing them with a greater opportunity to open new doors within the market.”

“Selecta will be exhibiting the two new products at FIT Show alongside our existing range of window and door products. We’re welcoming visitors to the show to Connect with Selecta, where we’ll not only have our window and door solutions on display, but

we’ll be demonstrating that there is so much more that Selecta can and do offer to our customers.”

Andy also highlights, “We see the FIT Show as the perfect platform to interact with window and door fabrication businesses who may feel a bit apprehensive about changing systems companies. We totally understand the hesitancy, but we see this as the ideal opportunity for ourselves to talk about our smooth, seamless and quick changeover process. Our knowledge, experience and large tooling stock enables us to act and convert or set-up customers quickly. More importantly we can do this with very little disruption to the fabricators business. It also helps that you are dealing with the decision makers during the whole changeover and set-up process, thus removing any potential delays to the arrangement.”

Selecta will also be demoing their latest additions and developments to their Connect customer support portal. In particular the Window & Door Designer will be featured with a significant new upgrade. Selecta are confident that it will be a real game changer and systems company first as Mark explains.

“Connect provides fabricators and installers with a host of technical spec, information,

guidance and downloads, with an excellent asset full resource and news centre. At the very heart of Connect sits our marketing and sales support tools, which have been designed to help businesses generate more sales leads and win new business.”

“Identified as Branded Mode, our Window & Door Designer with Home Visualiser has already taken lead generation and sales to the next level. It is fully loaded with all of Selecta’s window and door solutions, styles and configurations, and as the name suggests can be branded in-line with your business.”

“Customers can explore a wide range of window and door styles, choose from a variety of colour options to suit, upload property photos to visualise how they would look and request a survey and quote based on their design. Branded Mode is a fully immersive user experience, whether done in their own home, in your showroom or by your representative at the customers property.”

“FIT Show 2025 will see the launch of a host of the first set of new features and modules within Connect and the designer. The added features are aimed at connecting fabricators, installers and their customers

together with additional quoting, pricing and fabrication modules being integrated within the Window & Door Designer. Selecta are leading the way with this innovative software solution, something that is currently not offered by any other systems company.”

“This groundbreaking and integrated system will provide fabricators and installers with the ultimate lead generation and sales management tool, with a future module integrating with the fabrication process. Fully loaded with the Selecta dataset, our Window & Door Designer will link the initial lead, to sales management and pricing all the way through to workshop fabrication”, says Mark.

Andy concludes, “The current and new product innovations combined with our comprehensive marketing and sales support package are key to building a trustworthy, effective and long-standing partnership. It also demonstrates our commitment to our customers and the industry as a whole, with Selecta being the only PVCu systems company to exhibit at every FIT Show. That’s why we are confident that fabricators and installers will experience the benefits from connecting with Selecta on stand W50 at FIT Show 2025!”

ASK THE EXPERT SLIDING DOOR

Quickslide’s new sliding-folding door system is putting an end to the old bi-folds versus patio doors debate. Managing Director Ben Weber reveals everything you need to know.

MORE THAN A DOOR: A QUICK GUIDE TO QUICK-GLIDE

Quickslide has long been at the forefront of innovation in windows and doors. What inspired the launch of the Quick-Glide slide and fold door system?

At Quickslide we always strive to create products that genuinely add value to both homeowners and our trade partners. We saw a gap in the market between traditional bi-fold and sliding patio doors. Bi-folds are great for fully opening up a space, but they need a large concertina swing arc, which isn’t always practical. On the other hand, sliding patio doors work in smaller spaces but limit the maximum possible width of the opening. Quick-Glide was designed as a hybrid solution that brings the best of both worlds – giving homeowners flexibility while offering a sleek, modern design.

Aesthetic appeal is a big factor in choosing doors. What makes Quick-Glide stand out in this regard?

Quick-Glide is designed with ultra-slim 122mm sightlines, which is a major draw for homeowners wanting to maximise natural light and create a seamless transition between their indoor and outdoor spaces. Unlike traditional doors, it has no visible hardware apart from the main handle, giving it a completely clean, modern finish. The aluminium frame is not only slim but also strong, making it a stylish and durable choice for contemporary living spaces.

How does Quick-Glide improve upon conventional door systems?

One of the main advantages of Quick-Glide is its flexibility. Each panel operates independently, meaning homeowners can open just one section for ventilation or fully stack them for an unobstructed view. Unlike bi-folds, which require space to swing, our Quick-Glide panels slide and fold oneby-one without taking up extra room. Additionally, every Quick-Glide door set comes with a traffic door, which isn’t always the case with bi-folds. It’s the ideal solution for those who want the look and function of a high-end sliding or bifold door but with added convenience.

How does Quick-Glide perform in terms of durability and suitability for the British climate?

Quick-Glide has been designed with the British climate in mind. The doors have undergone testing to ensure they meet the stringent standards for weather and security performance. Additionally, it has undergone cycle testing to simulate long-term use, providing confidence in its durability and performance under typical conditions.

What makes Quick-Glide an attractive addition for trade customers?

For trade customers, Quick-Glide is an innovative product that will help them stand out in a competitive market. We’ve invested heavily in marketing and sales tools to support our trade partners, including in-depth product training and our Quick-Glide On-Screen configurator, which helps customers visualise their ideal door set-up. Plus, installation is easier than ever thanks to the ‘tap-in’ bead design, making the fitting process quicker and more efficient.

Quick-Glide has been on the market for a year now. How has the response been?

The response has been fantastic. More than 50 trade partners have already added it to their product range, and the demand continues to grow. Homeowners love the combination of style and practicality, and our trade customers appreciate the support we provide in terms of marketing and installation. We’re always listening to feedback and continually looking at ways to make our product range and marketing support even better too.

Looking ahead, how do you see Quick-Glide evolving in the market?

We see Quick-Glide becoming a staple choice for those looking for an alternative to bi-folds and patio doors. As more people embrace open-plan living and seamless indooroutdoor transitions, the demand for innovative solutions

like this will only increase. We’re continuing to expand our support to help trade customers capitalise on this growing trend.

Finally, what’s your message to trade customers considering adding Quick-Glide to their range?

If you’re looking for a door system that offers significant sales potential, is visually stunning and packed with practical features for both the installer and homeowner, Quick-Glide is the perfect addition to your offering. It provides a unique selling point that sets you apart from competitors, and with Quickslide’s comprehensive marketing and training support, you’ll have everything you need to drive sales and grow your business. Now is the perfect time to get on board with Quick-Glide.

ACHIEVING COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE WITH CARBON ACCOUNTING

Carbon accounting is at the heart of regulatory compliance and evolving customer reporting expectations, serving as a critical tool for businesses to demonstrate transparency and commitment to sustainability.

With stricter environmental regulations and increasing demand for verifiable green credentials, companies that fail to track and report their carbon footprint accurately risk falling behind.

According to the 2024 UK Net Zero Business Census Report, 46% of respondents had been asked for carbon footprint data in customer or tender applications, 37% of these being SMEs who fall outside regulatory requirements like SECR and CSRD. In other words, being environmentally responsible is no longer a ‘nice-to-have’—it’s becoming essential for winning work, for companies of all sizes.

THE BOTTOM LINE

The bottom line is that carbon reporting and net-zero strategies are no

longer optional—they are shaping the future of every industry. Rather than seeing it as just another box ticking exercise, window and door fabricators can use carbon accounting to strengthen their business, cut costs, and win more work. The key is to act now and turn sustainability from a challenge into an opportunity.

By adopting robust carbon accounting practices, businesses can stay ahead of regulations, enhance their market credibility, and secure a competitive edge in an increasingly ecoconscious landscape.

LONG-TERM EXPECTATIONS OF CARBON ACCOUNTING

Embracing carbon accounting practices comes with plenty of perks:

• Leadership in compliance and sustainability

Carbon accounting helps ensure regulatory compliance while exceeding value chain expectations through transparent reporting, science-based targets, and sustainability strategies that build trust and drive collaboration.

• Informed and efficient decision-making

Meaningful carbon accounting helps to leverage actionable insights to drive strategic decisions that reduce

consultancy specialising in making carbon accounting accessible and affordable for companies of any size.

emissions, optimise resources, and achieve both sustainability and cost-saving goals effectively.

• Credible green claims

Carbon accounting helps businesses stay compliant with green claims regulations by backing their sustainability efforts with robust and verified data. This data can be presented during pre-qualification and tender stages to meet sustainability compliance requirements, enhancing credibility and improving overall chances of success.

EXPERT HELP IS AT HAND

A significant advancement in sustainability within the fenestration industry comes through the expertise of Oakdene Hollins, a boutique environmental

Oakdene Hollins is led by Simon Scholes, a veteran in plastic recycling with experience of leading British Plastics Federation and VEKA Recycling.

“There’re so many expectations and very little support when it comes to putting the right measures in place, which means that many businesses have no idea where to start,” explains Scholes. “While local business advisory organisations can outline regulations and generic solutions, these rarely accommodate the specific needs of the fenestration industry. Our expertise allows us to address these unique challenges effectively.”

Drawing on years of industry experience, Scholes and his team provide a structured approach for window fabricators looking to integrate carbon accounting practices seamlessly.

“We’ve already navigated these challenges across multiple sectors and understand exactly what’s

required for companies to meet their regulatory and market expectations,” he continues. “Rather than reinventing the wheel, we tailor our knowledge to each business’s specific setup, ensuring they move confidently towards becoming a trusted, sustainable partner.”

“The business advantages of carbon accounting will soon outweigh the initial effort required for implementation,” adds Scholes. “This is not a one-time fix but an ongoing process that will become integral to business operations. Over time, companies will see tangible benefits.”

“Carbon accounting does not have to be expensive or restrictive, but quite

the opposite,” concludes Scholes. “It should be viewed as efficiency engineering, with the added benefit of a positive impact on business competitivity and the environment.”

PLANNING AHEAD

Carbon accounting is becoming increasingly important as sustainability continues to influence market expectations. Implementing carbon reduction strategies strengthens business resilience.

Preparing tenders requires significant effort, and competitiveness is key to ensuring your bid stands out. Carbon reporting and net-zero strategies are increasingly being expected by customers.

Embracing carbon accounting ensures compliance, enhances brand reputation, and contributes to a more sustainable future for the built environment. With industry experts like Oakdene Hollins providing tailored solutions, window and door fabricators have the support they need to navigate the evolving sustainability landscape. www.oakdenehollins.com/ lpcarbonaccounting

CONNECT, COMMUNICATE, CONVERT

According to Rhonda Ridge of Ab Initio, if installation businesses aren’t giving just attention to the customer journey, they will be losing sales to those who are. And connectivity is the secret to success.

In simple terms the customer journey includes all interactions a customer has with a business from researching the item, to placing the order, to receiving the products. The closer you can be to customers at every step of this journey, the better your business will perform. Social media is playing a bigger part in the business world in 2025 because it offers

companies a way to get closer to customers and personalise their communications. According to Sprout Social, WhatsApp remains the highest-reaching messaging service in the UK, reaching 87% of UK online adults in May 2024, so it makes sense for businesses to incorporate the app in their customer interactions. However, it’s not as simple as messaging customers from the app – the service needs to be integrated into the business properly, ideally within a comprehensive CRM.

From its inception 30 years ago, AdminBase has put customer service at the forefront of its all-encompassing installer management system. The entire system was designed to eliminate time consuming processes and allow installation businesses to operate more efficiently to boost productivity and improve customer service. For example, we launched an award-winning Customer Portal so that homeowners can log in to their account 24/7 to check how their order

and installation is progressing. This saves customer service teams time answering calls and allows homeowners to feel more in control. Now, increasingly, consumers are expecting to be able to communicate with businesses via WhatsApp instead of picking up the phone, so we have been working hard to integrate the service into AdminBase to make sure our users have everything they need.

LEADING THE CHARGE

We are the first CRM system in the industry to integrate the app and it’s going to be a game changer for installation businesses. Just like the SMS messaging facility we have offered for several years, using WhatsApp in AdminBase centralises all messages sent and received via the messaging service. This gives companies and consumers alike all the convenience of using the app, with none of the issues of messages sitting on an individual device until they

can be passed on, if they are shared at all. With full connectivity, customer service personnel have access to the most up to date information on a customer or project at any one time, allowing them to respond to calls efficiently, and offer a more personal service. While WhatsApp has always been prohibitively expensive – potentially costing thousands for clients to absorb it into their system – Ab Initio has managed to streamline the process and integrate it as part of our overall offering. AdminBase users can now create a WhatsApp business account for free and have WhatsApp on display throughout the CRM system. Integrating the app so seamlessly into AdminBase gives users access to all messages sent and received. This also means home improvement businesses don’t have to rely as heavily on e-mails, which can get lost in spam or go unread.

COST EFFECTIVE CONVERSIONS

We know that full integration with other existing software providers is essential to allow installation businesses to maximise their sales and marketing initiatives and achieve cost effective conversion rates. That is why we have developed the WhatsApp integration, and it is also why we have recently struck a deal with Tommy Trinder, whereby its quote documents can attach automatically to AdminBase leads. By bringing in expertise in other areas of the sales and marketing function, we can ensure that our client base has the sharpest and most accurately positioned tool on the market, helping them to get ahead of the competition.

Forward thinking home improvement businesses need to embrace connectivity to be able to stay ahead of increasing consumer demands for personalisation and deliver an enhanced customer experience. The entire customer journey needs to be smooth and easy for all involved and utilising an all-encompassing CRM like AdminBase, that has been designed with installation businesses in mind, is the only way to achieve this.

SLIDING DOORS MOMENT –ALUMINIUM SLIDERS

“VIRTUALLY NECK AND NECK WITH BIFOLDS”

Latest figures released by Tommy Trinder suggest that aluminium sliders are drawing level with bifolds for market share; £56million of aluminium sliders have been quoted by installers via the Tommy Trinder app over the last 12 months, compared to £59million of bifolds.

“We know that demand for stylish aluminium sliding doors has soared in recent years, but this latest activity data from Tommy suggests we are reaching a tipping point where demand for patios may once again outstrip bifolds,” says Tommy Trinder’s founder and CEO, Chris Brunsdon.

Whilst volumes of aluminium sliders have been trending upwards, the picture for aluminium as a whole is less clear, however. Crunching the data from over 300,000 quotes that were prepared by installers in 2024, Tommy Trinder have identified that

“More and more installers have adopted aluminium into their range – a year ago 78% of installers sold aluminium, that now sits at 87%. As aluminium has become more mainstream, competition has increased and the like for like price on many items has come down.”

the latter half of the year saw a cooling off in the values of aluminium quoted, says Chris: “More and more installers have adopted aluminium into their range – a year ago 78% of installers sold aluminium, that now sits at 87%. As aluminium has become more mainstream, competition has increased and the like for like price on many items has come down.”

“And PVCu is fighting back too, of course. Premium features such as flush sashes, foils, astragal bars, Radlington cills, period handles and dummy pegstays have made a dent and we are seeing these being quoted in ever increasing volumes on Tommy.”

Commenting on the scope and accuracy of the data, says Chris: “630 window firms are using Tommy for their quoting, ranging from one-man bands to national firms and from the highlands to the channel islands, so it’s a solid representation of the market. However, it’s likely that our typical subscriber’s product mix is somewhat skewed towards the top end. Upselling occurs naturally when it’s quick and easy to show off premium features, so it stands to reason that Tommy Trinder users will sell more of these high-ticket products like aluminium sliding doors.”

ROSEVIEW EXPANDS DIGITAL OFFERING

Respected sash window manufacturer Roseview Windows has expanded its online quoting capabilities, launching Business Micros’ TOUCH Portal to its customers.

TOUCH Portal is an innovative new system from leading fenestration software house Business Micros. The portal allows Roseview’s customers to build quotes and orders online, using always up-to-date pricing and product specification information supplied directly by Roseview. This allows installers to build fast, accurate quotes without having to send them to Roseview first.

Roseview is well-known for innovation and already offers live-priced online quoting to subscribers of the Tommy Trinder Framepoint system. In four years, that has translated into 40,000 sash windows quoted through the system, with a value of more than £32.5 million.

Commenting on Roseview’s expanded online options, director Mike Bygrave said: “We always focus on helping our customers and giving them a competitive edge,

five years ago we knew we wanted to be involved. That has proved to be a great success, with more than £30 million of windows quoted since we started, and an impressive conversion rate for our customers.

“So, when we heard that Business Micros was developing Touch Portal, we signed up.” Mike continues. “We’ve already seen how successful online quoting can be, and Business Micros are the biggest name in fenestration industry software – all our back-end systems already come from them.

“We’ve worked closely with BM over the last year to build a sash window specific Touch Portal for Roseview’s customers. It keeps us at the forefront of online technology in the window industry. But, more importantly, it allows us to offer more options and flexibility to our customers, based on their needs. In turn, that allows them to maintain

ASK THE EXPERT PREMIUM WINDOWS

The South-Tyrolean family business is among the biggest window suppliers in Europe. The company recently opened its Finstral Studio Borehamwood in north London and is is making its debut at the FIT Show in Birmingham this year, launching its appeal to resellers in the UK. We asked Andreas Simmer, Head of Finstral UK, about his plans and ambitions.

PREMIUM WINDOW MAKER FINSTRAL ENTERS THE UK MARKET

Mr. Simmer, Finstral is another supplier of continental windows that has decided to come to the UK. Can you tell us why and what your company has to offer the UK market?

I would say it was about time. On one hand UK has a strong premium segment for high-quality building goods, which makes it an attractive market for Finstral. And on the other, anyone who is familiar with continental window suppliers knows that Finstral undoubtedly offers one of the most sophisticated window systems in Europe. Since I started talking to UK dealers and architects about our products, the feedback I keep getting is that this wide range of possibilities in terms of functionality and aesthetics has not been seen before. So this is the pitch.

What makes the Finstral product range so special? What are the brands unique selling propositions?

Windows are often still seen as a commodity. But in reality, they are an investment for decades. It is therefore worth opting for a better and more beautiful product.

Finstral really masters this offer, thanks to its consistently modular product range, its uncompromising material, construction and installation quality and its sense of aesthetics. After all, the strongest sales factor is ultimately beauty. And with Finstral, beautiful windows are really good business.

Finstral is making its debut at the FIT Show in Birmingham this year.

What can visitors expect from your presence at the event, and what are you hoping to achieve?

We’re really excited to be part of the FIT Show this year—it’s the perfect platform for us to introduce Finstral to the UK market and connect with professionals who are looking for something different in the world of windows and doors.

Stand S70 will showcase the full scope of what we offer: premium-quality products, a modular system that allows for real design flexibility, and a level of craftsmanship that sets us apart. More than anything, we’re here to start conversations. We want to meet dealers, resellers, and industry experts who are looking for innovative, high-margin solutions that can truly differentiate their business. Finstral will showcase its latest innovations, including high-performance glazing solutions and customisable window systems. These products are engineered to enhance energy efficiency, security, and

aesthetic appeal, catering to the diverse needs of the UK market. We encourage everyone to stop by, experience the Finstral difference for themselves, and explore the opportunities of working with us.

What can visitors of the Finstral Studio Borehamwood expect to see?

Our first British Finstral Studio doesn’t aim for end customers, but mainly for dealers or other professionals who want to inform themselves about the Finstral product range and our premium sales strategy. We explain all the functional and aesthetic options of Finstral elements from the outside, i.e. the façade side; the center, i.e. the core of the window; the inside, i.e. the living side; and all around, i.e. the service around the window. The best option is to visit finstral.com/borehamwood or make an appointment with us directly in the Studio.

Are there specific goals you have set yourself for the UK? How many retailers do you want to attract, how much turnover are you aiming for?

Our long-term goal is to establish ourselves here in the UK. That will take time, but we have it. After all, we are serious about building truly sustainable partnerships. We are already attracting a lot of interest in the window industry. Many dealers are looking for proven, high-margin products with a high potential for differentiation from the competition. And this is exactly where we can be an attractive option with our consistent premium range. Thanks for the interview.

SMART VISOFOLD 1000 UPGRADE DELIVERS MAJOR PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENTS

Firmly established as the UK’s most popular aluminium bi-fold door, Smart’s Visofold 1000 system delivers a wide range of benefits for fabricators, installers and end users.

As part of a major upgrade to the Visofold 1000 Slim bi-fold door, Smart has introduced a number of enhancements, including two new profile options, significantly improved U-values, and new hardware and accessories, as well as making the system easier and quicker to fabricate and install.

While retaining the same overall dimensions and slim sight lines that are a feature of the Visofold 1000 design, two new rebated outer frames and a new integrated cill have been introduced, which complement the existing low threshold option. A Heritage sash and additional transom options are also now available to complement Smart’s established range of Heritage window and door systems.

The new outer frame profiles incorporate a wider 30mm polyamide thermal break, which when fitted with a double glazed unit with a centre pane of 1.2 (used with foam insulation), achieves a U-Value of 1.4 and an A energy rating.

Approved to PAS 24:2022 (subject to final product specification), the upgrade also includes optional 70mm and 82mm hooded trickle vent sections, as well as a new track

insert which is again designed to improve thermal efficiency.

As well as improvements to the frames and performance, Visofold 1000’s hardware and accessories range also features a number of significant enhancements, including PAS 24 approval for the door’s standard roller, the addition of a new, heavy duty shoot bolt handle, enhancements to the gearboxes.

The Visofold 1000 outer frame, sash and bead profiles all feature Smart’s co-extruded gaskets, including the company’s innovative Quick Glaze Bead which makes fabrication and installation fast, straightforward, and efficient. Three optional adjustment features are also available, enabling the rollers, jamb and glazing all to be adjusted in situ, and fine tuning to be carried out quickly and efficiently.

Commenting on the upgrade, Smart’s Managing Director, Dean Thomas, said: “Visofold 1000 is already a very wellestablished and extremely popular system, and this comprehensive package of enhancements will provide our customers with even better performance, not just in terms of aesthetics and thermal efficiency, but also in the system’s operation and versatility.

“By making the door easier and quicker to fabricate and install, and paying attention to every aspect of the door, from new profiles and cill options to heavy duty handles, we have taken one of our most successful doors and made it even better.”

WHITELINE MEETS DEMAND FOR HERITAGE-INSPIRED DESIGNS WITH SHEERLINE

Since Whiteline Manufacturing Ltd launched Sheerline’s Classic Heritage Door last October, the fabricator has seen a significant increase in demand for heritage-inspired designs, particularly from those who want a steel-look aesthetic combined with truly modern performance.

It was specifically selected to complement Whiteline’s aluminium offering as the company already produces the popular Classic range and felt the Heritage door was the perfect extension to complete this suite of products.

Aside from the ultra-slim aluminium profiles designed to emulate the steel-look aesthetic, Sheerline’s Classic Heritage Door was selected for its versatility. Particularly as it suits both interior and exterior use, making it popular with homeowners and architects alike.

Thanks to Sheerline’s zero-threshold option, it can be installed as an internal door. This makes it the perfect solution for those families who want to embrace open plan living, with an uninterrupted flow of natural light through the home.

Heritage-style products are growing in popularity, and part of the appeal of the Classic Heritage Door is its authentic styling thanks to a periodinspired lockbox design. This timeless

look makes it ideal for projects ranging from contemporary to character, and everything between.

No stranger to Sheerline’s products, Whiteline were one of the first fabricators to start selling the innovative aluminium range. The partnership has gone from strength to strength, resulting in a collaboration to develop a unique feature for this product, which will be launched in late Q1.

Louise Evans, Group Commercial Director, said: “Whiteline and Sheerline have had a solid relationship for many years and share many common traits, like innovation and service, which make them the perfect partnership.”

Tony Basile, Sheerline’s National Sales Director, commented: “When we at Sheerline say our fabricators are our partners – we mean it. We’ve been working with Whiteline since the beginning, and our relationship is built on mutual respect and understanding. Our values very much align, which is why this partnership has flourished over the years.”

“We aren’t surprised to hear the Classic Heritage Door has been popular – it offers everything homeowners want; it’s stylish, secure, on trend, and versatile,” he added.

VENTILATION SOLUTIONS FOR HERITAGE GLAZING

Installers and fabricators replacing windows or doors in listed buildings or conservation areas can often face three major challenges based around regulations and homeowners’ demands.

Firstly, the choice of material and compliance with local authority regulations (such as Article 4 Directives) around conservation. Secondly, ensuring homeowner satisfaction is becoming an increasing challenge, especially if a homeowner wants a particular type or style or window aesthetic. The third challenge is choosing the right ventilation solution to ensure compliance with Building Regulations (Approved Document F –means of ventilation).

The homeowner’s choice (preferred or enforced) of material for windows and doors in conservation areas and/or listed buildings is usually timber. The styles and designs can be contentious with local authorities (building control and conservation officers) who endeavour to make the windows and doors as appropriate to the building and as environmentally friendly as possible.

When Building Regulations, Approved Document F changed in June 2022, it became compulsory for companies replacing existing windows and doors, to meet the property’s ventilation requirements to a new standard.

With mechanical ventilation being expensive, inconvenient and time consuming to install, the most practical

and affordable way to compliance for both installers and homeowners is to install trickle vents to the window and door profiles or frames.

Compounding the challenges of compliance, many local authorities even insist that the identical type of timber is

used when installing replacements. Add to this, is the homeowner’s discernment and preferences for a perfect finish and it is easy to see why getting the right ventilation solution is now vital for any installation of replacement windows or doors in heritage buildings.

Glazpart (the glazing components and hardware manufacturer) has one of the best trickle ventilation solutions with its awardwinning Link Vent range.

The Link Vent range comes in sizes 5000, 4000 and 2500 EQA - plus a recently launched modular vents that achieves 2000 EQA allows installers greater flexibility and also improves watertightness. All are designed to fully comply with Building Regulations (Approved Document F).

With a clever design, simple and userfriendly control - the Link Vent’s innovative closure plate can easily be positioned to reduce draughts by directing air away from occupants.

The Link Vent also has rounded ends of the vent to allow for installation on timber windows and it is available in either screw or clip in fixing types - the design eliminates the need for end caps whilst the clip fix design (Pawl’s) allows for a fast, easy vent installation.

Easy fitting and functionality are essentials but it is the huge choice of colours and decorative finishes that sets Glazpart’s Link Vent range apart from the competition.

For over ten years, Glazpart has consistently invested in state-of-the-art machinery

and tooling to provide a vast spectrum of colours and finishes for the Link Vent range including Premium Woodgrain Link Vents which are ideal for timber products. When it comes to heritage properties, many fabricators and installers are using the Link Vent Premium ranges because they blend in perfectly with the look not only of the building but often the surrounding environment. The Link Vent Premium finishes are also available in handy packs of 10, which means companies only have to buy what they need rather than tie cash up in high stock levels.

The Glazpart Link Vent colours are also extremely stable and durable with the vents holding their colour through constant exposure to extreme and constant elements of weather, without noticeable fading.

Dean Bradley, Glazpart Sales Director explains: “For timber windows and doors especially in heritage buildings, Glazpart can match most colour finishes. As homeowners become more particular regarding the aesthetic of their windows and doors, fabricators and installers should be offering the widest possible range of colours and finishes for traditional timber windows and doors. Our Link Vent range and its range of finishes exceeds homeowners’ expectations.”

UAP AMONGST THE FIRST TO CERTIFY 3* EURO CYLINDERS FOR NEW SECURITY STANDARD

Greater Manchesterbased UAP Ltd, a leading manufacturer of door and window hardware, is setting the benchmark for security compliance, becoming one of the first in the industry to achieve BSI KITEMARK TS0071:2024 certification for its 3* euro cylinders.

With the latest PAS24:2022+A1:2024 security test standard introducing tougher attack methods including advanced freezing and gluing tests, UAP’s solutions are already tested, certified, and ready to go to market. The updated test ensures locks can withstand extreme tampering, protecting against increasingly sophisticated break-in techniques. While much of the industry is still adjusting to the new requirements, UAP has already delivered a fully compliant solution, giving fabricators and installers a clear, stress-free path to meeting the new standard. With industry-first certification and a commitment to proactive

security innovation, UAP continues to lead the way—giving fabricators and installers a competitive edge with ready-to-go compliance solutions.

David Jennings, CEO at UAP Ltd, said: “We’ve been anticipating these changes for some time, which is why we’re not just meeting the new standard—we’re exceeding it. Our 3* euro cylinders have already achieved BSI KITEMARK TS007-1:2024 certification, making compliance easy for fabricators and installers. No rushed decisions, no unnecessary costs, just fully tested, third-party approved solutions that keep our customers ahead of the curve.”

TOTAL HARDWARE LAUNCHES NEW APEX STAINLESS STEEL SHOOTBOLT

Total Hardware has just launched the latest product in its premium Apex range: the Apex Stainless Steel Shootbolt.

The shootbolt, which has the option to incorporate Yale SensCheck™, is manufactured to deliver superior security for PVC-U profiles, providing next-level protection for windows.

Paul Atkinson, Director at Total Hardware, said: “The innovative Apex Stainless Steel Shootbolt is a state-of-art locking solution that elevates window security. It’s the next generation in window locking technology, combining advanced materials with cutting-edge design to offer unparalleled protection and peace of mind for homeowners.”

The intelligent design features a onepiece zinc centre keep, combined corner mushroom and shootbolt keep, significantly improving product performance. It also comes with a corner drive option which means it can be used as a wraparound mechanism for high or heavy duty top hung sashes, giving additional locking points on the

side of the sashes and improving the compression of the window.

The shootbolt is suitable for use on Standard, French, Flush and French Flush casement windows. For enhanced security, the shootbolt is laminated. It’s manufactured from high-grade stainless steel, which enhances strength and extends product life, something that is reflected in the 10-year guarantee. Available in options to suit sash sizes from 250mm to 1620mm, the shootbolt meets PAS24:2022 security requirements and is Secured by Design and IoT (Internet of Things) accredited.

The Apex Stainless Steel Shootbolt is part of Total Hardware’s exclusive Apex range, which offers modern, stylish hardware design without compromise. Elsewhere in the range, customers will find the new Apex QuadLock, Apex Door Handle and the Apex Window Handles.

As well as the Apex range of hardware, Total Hardware is also home to industry favourites, Quantum, Superior 25 and Duration ranges, which are designed for fabricators looking to differentiate their offer.

NEW NON-CROP WINDOW SHOOTBOLT FROM VBH

Hardware expert VBH has further expanded its range of locking systems for outward opening casement windows with the introduction of the greenteQ Invicta NonCrop shootbolt.

The product joins the original Invicta shootbolt in a greenteQ casement lock line up that now includes eight options.

As the name suggests, Invicta Non-Crop allows the fabricator to simply drop the shootbolt extensions into place within the window sash without having to measure/mark and cut them to length.

A strong steel cover plate then secures the extensions into place, ensuring a solid connection to the gearbox.

The launch of the Apex Stainless Steel Shootbolt demonstrates Total Hardware’s clear understanding of the requirements of the market, and its ability to consistently meet those needs. It’s just one of the reasons its loyal customer base continues to expand.

The Apex Stainless Steel Shootbolt is available from stock now.

https://www.totalhardwareltd.co.uk

VBH Marketing Manager Gary Gleeson says, “The non-crop method massively speeds up the fitting time against standard shootbolts, is less messy, and means that the fabricator has no steel offcuts to dispose of.”

The system consists of a gearbox, in a choice of industry standard 20 or 22mm backsets, and a series of extensions to cover sash sizes up to 1560mm.

VBH advise that Invicta is suitable for windows where a high security locking system is required and is compatible with the most popular PVCu and aluminium window systems.

Once fitted, security is provided by adjustable mushroom cams on the gearbox and extensions, and steel shootbolts that have two settings to allow penetration of the profile if desired.

greenteQ Invicta Non-Crop is approved for use on Q-secure installations. Q-secure is VBH’s homeowner security guarantee scheme, which promises to pay

the homeowner up to £9000 in compensation if a break in is successfully achieved due to hardware failure.

Gary adds “Invicta Non-Crop sits alongside the original variant, giving fabricators a choice of a standard crop or non-crop fitting procedures. Of course, both options provide high levels of security performance and are exceptionally smooth to operate by the consumer.”

To find out more about the Invicta options, visit www.vbhgb.com, email sales@vbhgb.com or call 01634 263263.

Elegance in every detail

TS007 2-Star Security Door Handle

The ultimate solution for Premium Stainless Steel door & window hardware. Unbeatable quality, cutting-edge design, & long-lasting durability.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT HARDWARE FOR SEASIDE LOCATIONS

For builders, architects, and property owners working on coastal homes and businesses, selecting the right door and window hardware is key.

Harsh seaside conditions – high winds, salty air and airborne deposits – can accelerate corrosion and reduce the lifespan of hardware, leading to costly replacements and frustrated customers.

Fortunately, there are products specifically designed for marine environments. Coastal Group’s polished stainless steel hardware range has been engineered to withstand the toughest seaside conditions.

THE IMPORTANCE OF 316 STAINLESS STEEL

“Not all metals are created equal when it comes to resisting corrosion in tough environments,” explains Loren Jenner, Coastal Group’s Managing Director. “We developed our range of BLU hardware specifically for the tough conditions found in areas near the coast. The material and the finish are all tested to make sure they’re up to the challenge.”

316 marine-grade stainless steel offers superior protection against saltwater exposure, making it the ideal material for external door and window hardware in seaside properties.

WHY 316 STAINLESS STEEL?

• Superior Corrosion Resistance – The addition of molybdenum to 316 grade steel enhances its ability to withstand saltwater corrosion and pitting, ensuring long-term performance.

• Enhanced Durability – Known for its strength, 316 stainless steel prevents hardware from becoming rusted or damaged, even in extreme coastal weather.

• Low Maintenance – Unlike other materials, 316 stainless steel requires minimal upkeep while delivering high performance, reducing the need for frequent repairs and replacements.

GETTING THE FINISH RIGHT

Selecting the correct finish is just as important as choosing the right material, especially in seaside environments where exposure to salt and moisture can rapidly accelerate corrosion.

“Polished stainless steel is the ultimate choice for coastal environments,” explains Philip Walklett, Engineering Manager at Coastal Group. “Its smooth, polished surface provides the best resistance to salt, moisture, and corrosion, giving it the edge on other finishes.”

Polished hardware outperforms other finishes in tests. It helps reduce surface crevices where salt and grime can accumulate, making maintenance easier and preserving the sleek, modern look.

For homeowners and builders looking to protect their investment, polished stainless steel hardware offers reliability, longevity, and an elegant finish – even in the toughest coastal conditions.

CARING FOR 316 STAINLESS STEEL HARDWARE

Even though 316 stainless steel is highly resistant to corrosion, proper maintenance can further extend its lifespan.

Loren Jenner, Managing Director of Coastal Group, highlights the importance of choosing the right hardware: “When homeowners and builders invest in a highquality door, they expect it to stand the test of time – but the wrong hardware can let them down. Cheap, low-quality handles and fittings don’t just ruin the look with rust streaks; they can also compromise functionality, leading to stiff handles and sticky locks. In harsh coastal environments, the right hardware isn’t just about looking good; it’s essential for durability, performance, and long-term value.”

To maintain the integrity and appearance of stainless steel hardware in coastal areas, Coastal Group recommends the following care tips:

• Regular Cleaning – Wash hardware regularly with fresh water and a mild detergent to remove salt deposits and grime. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth to prevent water spots

• Avoid Harsh Chemicals – Refrain from using abrasive cleaners, steel wool, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the protective surface and reduce corrosion resistance.

• Routine Inspections – Periodically check hardware for signs of wear or damage. Address any issues promptly to prevent further deterioration.

• Lubrication – Apply a light coat of marine-grade lubricant to moving parts such as hinges, locks, and handles to ensure smooth operation and additional protection against corrosion.

PROTECTING PROPERTY VALUE WITH THE RIGHT HARDWARE

Research suggests that coastal properties can command a premium of up to 30% on the housing market, but environmental damage caused by salt, wind, and moisture can significantly reduce their worth. Rusting metal, corroded locks, and failing hardware not only impact the visual appeal of a property but also its security and value.

By choosing high-performance polished stainless steel hardware specifically designed for coastal environments - and following simple maintenance steps - homeowners and builders can maximise performance, minimise costly repairs, and protect the long-term value of their properties.

HOW MARKETING CAN BE A GAME CHANGER FOR YOUR INSTALLER BUSINESS

Glazerite UK Group’s Michelle Wright shares how the power of marketing can switch up success for installers.

Recent statistics from home insurance company Aviva reveal that almost seven million homeowners in the UK are planning to renovate their properties in the next two years, with an average expected spend of £14,000. One of the key drivers for renovations is to make homes more energy efficient, likely down to the cost of energy and increasingly eco-conscious consumers. The best place to achieve that is to replace windows and doors, which means a lot of potential business for installers.

With these statistics in mind, there is no better time for installers to ramp up local awareness of their business by leveraging the power of marketing. To attract the attention of potential customers in a crowded market, you need to be where your customers are - online. A dynamic user- and mobile-friendly website, active social media channels and the free Google Business Profile tool are the best places to start.

‘WINDOW INSTALLER NEAR ME’

Searches containing the phrase ‘near me’ have rocketed in recent years and one way to leverage this is to use Google Business Profile. It will improve your visibility in

Google search results and Google maps so your customers can find you with a few clicks of a mouse.

Next stop is a website, which will act as a virtual shop window for your customers, giving them an insight into your products, your brand values and your work. As a fabricator, we are more than just the sum of our comprehensive product portfolio. We’re here to help you leverage the power of marketing and achieve new business with a support package we’ve calculated is worth more than £5000 to those installers who make use of it.

Whether you have an existing website, or you’re looking to create one, we’ll work with

you to understand your business aims and your target audience. We will then conduct a digital audit of your online presence, including any existing social media channels, and develop a marketing plan to help you maximise opportunities and attract new customers.

A PARTNERSHIP APPROACH

It’s a partnership approach that is reaping rewards for our customers who make use of our white label website offering. This is essentially a template we can brand and populate with your credentials and is the ideal platform to showcase your installer business, backed up with search engine optimised content and features like video and flip technology brochures.

Social media can feel daunting, particularly which platforms to choose, the work required to create content, and the 24/7 nature of customer contact. We can help you navigate it with our social media toolkit, an easy-to-use guide that outlines

how you can get the best from social media and maintain an engaging presence to keep your business top-of-mind. What’s more, we can also give you access to useful existing content to elevate your social channels and your website, with images, graphics and videos hosted on our asset management system, GlazeriteVISTA. If you’re keen to create your own social media content, we can help you make the most of scheduling software like Hootsuite or Meta Business Suite and design tools like Canva to create eye-catching visuals.

From branded marketing materials to digital support and showroom solutions, we’re here to help you make the most of every opportunity. Want to know more and see our support in action? We’re at FIT Show, which takes place at the NEC Birmingham from 29th April – 1st May 2025. Come and see us at Stand F79 to learn more about our marketing support packages.

FORCE 8 REDEFINES COMPOSITE DOORS WITH THE LAUNCH OF THE COLOSSUS

Force 8 has once again pushed the boundaries of composite door design with the introduction of the Colossus a towering 2.4-metre door that quite literally stands head and shoulders above standard options. Designed to bridge the common gap between a standard door and a larger arched frame, the Colossus eliminates the need for unsightly fillers, offering a seamless, full-height solution.

Traditional composite doors often fall short literally when it comes to reaching the peak of an arched frame. Installers typically resort to using fillers above the door to complete the arch (as the blue example door pictured), which can compromise both aesthetics and functionality. The Colossus, with its additional 400mm in height, resolves this issue effortlessly, with extended locks and four hinges providing a more cohesive and visually appealing finish.

While the full 2.4-metre height showcases the door’s impressive capabilities, it’s not always a necessity. Force 8 understands the need for flexibility in design and installation, which is why the Colossus is also available without an arch. This gives installers greater versatility and more options when quoting for projects, particularly when it’s a larger entrance.

This latest innovation highlights Force 8’s unrivalled expertise in crafting seamless arched frames without welds, paired with perfectly matching arched composite doors, an offering unique in the UK market. Enhancing this precision, Force 8’s in-house paint facility allows both the frame and the door to be painted simultaneously, ensuring a flawless colour match and a cohesive finish.

“To our knowledge, no other UK manufacturer offers the complete package

an arched frame and matching composite door, manufactured and finished together,” comments Lisa Mottershead operations director at Force 8. “In most cases, installers are forced to source the frame and door separately, which not only increases the margin for error but also makes colour matching a challenge.”

The Colossus isn’t just a larger door; it’s a revolutionary innovation for installers and homeowners seeking a bold, cohesive entrance solution without compromise. With Force 8’s commitment to quality, precision, and innovation, the Colossus is set to become a standout choice for the larger entrances in the composite door market.

INNOVATIVE SLIMLINE INTERNAL FIRE DOOR LAUNCHED BY SCHÜCO JANSEN

Steel systems specialist, Schüco Jansen, has introduced a new internal fire door with the slimmest sightlines available on the UK market for an internal fire rated system. The Jansen Art’15 Fire NR E-EW fire protection door system is designed for safety with no compromise on style. The new system is an evolution of the popular non-insulated Jansen Art’15 steel door and partition wall system and, like the original, features an extremely slimline, attractive profile. The latest Jansen Art’15 system also brings an impressive level of fire resistance. Tested to British and European standards (BS EN 1634-1: 2014), the system achieves fire integrity and radiation

resistance classes E/EW30 to E/EW120, as well as smoke protection class Sa.

The extensive testing of the Jansen Art’15 Fire NR E-EW includes all standard single and double-leaf door configurations, with optional sidelights and toplights included. The system provides fire protection from both sides and can accommodate both equal and unequal double leaf doors.

The integrity of the door, in terms of its fire resistance, has been assessed for periods from 30 to 120 minutes for both single and double* leaf doorsets. The doorset is suited to a wide range of applications and has been tested in all standard building structures and components, as per EN 1363-1.

The Jansen Art’15 Fire NR E-EW offers impressive design flexibility. The system accommodates a wide variety of glazing bar configurations, as well as the option of infill panels rather than glazing in the sidelights. Designers can choose from a large selection of glass that has been assessed for use within the system, including Pyroguard and any Certifire approved glass, approved for use in non-insulated steel doorsets for periods of up to 120 minutes integrity.

The system offers the choice to forgo a lock, improving ease of use, as well as optional integrated door closers. A range of slimline door hinges - in both steel and stainless steel - provides an elevated look and allows

individual design requirements to be achieved. For further information email  mkinfobox@schueco.com, call 01908 282 111, or visit: www.schueco.com/uk/ specifiers/magazine/art15-fire

*Double leaf opening towards the fire only –opening away from the fire is assessed to 90 minutes integrity.

APEER DOORS APPOINTS

UK DISTRIBUTOR

Apeer Doors, the Ballymena based door manufacturer, and Blinds in Glass Group (BIGG), the fast-growing specialist for integral blinds, have signed an agreement to facilitate the distribution of Apeer’s wide range of high performing composite doors to window companies across England and Wales through BIGG’s Coventry based head office.

BIGG managing director, Ian Woolley, had long been conscious of the need for a more flexible and versatile range of entrance doors that could provide added value to his customers while responding to the increasing demands for more colours, better thermal efficiencies and overall improved quality of looks and performance.

“The Apeer door range impressed me at every level,” said Ian Woolley. “The company manufactures doors to the same values as BIGG – that of providing a quality service with a responsiveness that places the customer experience at the forefront. Working from this premise helps the supply chain to operate so much more efficiently.

For a competitive price, our customers will be able to sell a beautiful door that is superior in terms of U-values, range of colours, skin and hardware options. Add to this the fact that Apeer has significantly overdelivered in terms of marketing support, brochures and swatches, we believe we can establish a lucrative profit opportunity for our customer base.”

Apeer managing director, Asa McGillian added: “BIGG is just the sort of business

that we know both understands and appreciates the Apeer brand, and sees the synchronicity with its own brand. Ian has built a good, solid business which values the customer experience, and he recognises that the Apeer door range enables him to fulfil those expectations. With an established network of window companies, we are looking forward to growing sales across the UK”.

Ian Woolley established BIGG during the height of covid in 2020, and has grown it into a solid £1.6m turnover business focusing primarily on integral blinds and composite doors. The company has created a solid operational framework for growth, and sees this distribution agreements as a primary focus for growth, continuing high levels of service with minimal investment.

“Our delivery vans are often the most prolific source of communicating what we can offer,” continued Ian Woolley. “As our drivers criss-cross the UK, our customers have a natural curiosity about what else we are delivering, and the interest in Apeer doors is taking root. I believe that this is the start of a long and fruitful relationship with Asa and his team at Apeer.”

WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS LIKE ABOUT BRITDOR

DoorCo’s Commercial Director, Ben Aspinall, talks to Glass News about the impact BRiTDOR has made for DoorCo customers.

BRiTDOR was launched to the market, last year, as a key product in DoorCo’s ONE Supplier redefined offering. A solid timber core door, finished with CoolSkin technology that matches the wider DoorCo product range and size options to fit any frame on the market, BRiTDOR completes the product line-up to enable us to supply every type of composite door in the UK market. Since its launch, we’ve seen a significant shift in customers’ buying behaviour. A number of leading fabricators have moved over to single source supply from DoorCo, and more are adopting additional products from the ONE complete product portfolio.

Jody Vincent, Sales Director, Emplas testifies: “Over the years, DoorCo’s broadened product offerings have enabled Emplas to provide a more extensive range of composite door options to our installer base. In October last year, we launched the BRiTDOR Collection to add to the ORiGINAL and GRiPCORE collections. The addition of BRiTDOR is designed to support installers in maximising opportunities in the composite door midmarket and has been well received to date.”

POPULAR CHARACTERISTICS

Right from the start, BRiTDOR was a hit with our customers, and since the addition of the 44mm width option to the previously released 48mm size, sales have risen steeply. But how are customers finding it? From their feedback, these are the highlights:

• Seamlessly matching: Out of the 17-shade colour palette, BRiTDOR is available in three stains, Rosewood, Irish Oak and Golden Oak. Our customers regularly tell us how perfectly these choices in particular, match the windows they are installing. In fact, the whole colour range has been designed to seamlessly match U-PVC window and door profiles, thanks to the CoolSkin Technology outer layer of BRiTDOR.

A thermoplastic outer layer with heat-reflective properties, CoolSkin Technology has laminate foils that are a perfect replication of the foils used on PVCu window profiles. We’ve also specially designed our skins to have a woodgrain finish to mimic the signature DoorCo GRP skins, so it fits perfectly with what our customers’ customers are used to buying and uniformed with the ONE product portfolio.

• A hardwood core: The perception of the hardwood solid core of BRiTDOR is attracting customers, far and wide. Although experts know that the thermal efficiency of a foam core door is superior, and the rigidity of a hybrid door like GRiPCORE, is unrivalled, there is a perception of reliability and comfort around wood that emanates trust. Afterall, it’s a material that we’ve using to build houses and furnish for centuries! The solid core of BRiTDOR provides exceptional strength and durability and it also acts as an insulating material, offering thermal efficiency.

• New designs: As with any new collection, new designs have been innovated for BRiTDOR, and our customers love them. Enzo is one that’s really standing out. One of our designer styles, Enzo is ultra-modern with its

pre-engraved edge to edge detailing and smooth Links style skin that perfectly matches aluminium windows. The other new designs that are rising in popularity are the Glenman and St Mark.

• Comprehensive styling: The wide range of styles, colours, and finishes makes the BRiTDOR offering appealing to many that are looking for a stylish but not overly expensive front door for their homes.

• It doesn’t come with a frame: Unlike some of our solid core counterparts, BRiTDOR easily integrates into your existing product portfolio so you have complete control over your manufacturing and can harness your own buying power to offer BRiTDOR at a price point that suits your customers. The seamless colour matching is also a huge benefit here, too, in incorporating BRiTDOR to your range.

• Made in the UK: In the current market, anything British made is desirable. Whether it’s for sustainability reasons around supporting the local economy and reduced environmental impact, ethical or patriotic ideals, or simply for business purposes that we have greater control over quality, stock, supply, and with potential new international trade tariffs, cost, BRiTDOR’s British Manufactured badge is a real crowd-pleaser.

BRITISH MANUFACTURING

Making the decision to develop and manufacture BRiTDOR in the UK represents a real step change for DoorCo. Although we still enjoy productive relationships with our overseas partners and have good control over the process,

investing in Doncaster as the home of BRiTDOR has opened up huge opportunities for the future of DoorCo Manufacturing.

Doncaster is a facility that has enabled us to onshore some of our manufacturing to give us greater control and as importantly, to create a centre of manufacturing excellence and innovation where we can not only produce BRiTDOR in the growing volumes our customers are demanding but also explore R&D projects to further enhance our offering.

BRiTDOR is available now to all DoorCo customers as part of our ONE complete product portfolio. Working with DoorCo gives you access to all the composite doors available in the UK – foam, solid, hybrid cores, plus glazing cassettes, glass, colour, and a comprehensive prepping service – all from ONE supplier.

MACHINERY FOCUS

SHELFORCE EXPANDS PRODUCTION OUTPUT WITH MACHINERY FROM HAFFNER

Nationwide fabricator Shelforce has boosted its production capacity by adding three new machines from leading machinery specialist Haffner. This strategic investment enables the company to meet the surging demand for its products, particularly in local authority and commercial contracts, ensuring greater efficiency and productivity.

Following careful market research, Shelforce selected Haffner as its machinery partner.

Howard Trotter, Business Manager at Shelforce, said: “We evaluated multiple providers based on key factors such as machinery capabilities, service support and availability of parts. Haffner emerged as the clear leader, not only for the impressive capabilities of its machinery but also for its consultative approach, which proved invaluable in guiding us towards the best investment for our specific needs.”

The company has invested in cutting-edge automation with three advanced machines to enhance efficiency and manufacturing precision.

The SBA-4 Profile Machining Centre fully automates the cutting and machining of PVC-U

profiles, streamlining production with minimal manual intervention.

The SMR 5 Five Head Welding Machine ensures high-precision welding of corners, transoms and cruciforms, significantly improving consistency and speed. Meanwhile, the new FMC 120 CNC Machining Centre automates drilling and milling operations on aluminium profiles, optimising accuracy and productivity.

The addition of the SBA-4 has enabled Shelforce to boost window production by 800 frames per week, while the FMC 120 has increased fire door output by an additional 100 units per week. Howard Trotter highlights the broader impact: “Not only have we significantly increased production, but we've also enhanced overall factory efficiency and staff productivity. The SBA4’s automation of cutting and machining processes means we now require just one operator, streamlining workflow and optimising output.”

Birmingham-based Shelforce, established in 1839, is an award-winning manufacturer and installer of high-quality PVC-U and aluminium windows and doors. Specialising in local authority building projects and government tenders, Shelforce is renowned for its excellence in both product quality and

service. The company has received multiple accolades for its business practices, including the prestigious King’s Award for Enterprise in recognition of its commitment to promoting opportunity.

Haffner is the UK’s leading supplier of machinery to the fenestration industry, offering a comprehensive range of high-quality fabrication solutions. As the sole UK agent for Graf Synergy, renowned globally for its seamless welding technology, Haffner also provides an extensive selection of advanced machinery from Fom Industrie, a leader in precision-engineered aluminium solutions. In addition to its own Haffner machinery, the company has built its reputation on helping customers harness the full potential of automation, driving efficiency, precision and productivity across the industry.

Matt Thomas, Managing Director at Haffner, concluded: “We were delighted that Shelforce selected us as their machinery partner and even more pleased that they are already experiencing the benefits of machine automation. We look forward to supporting their continued growth and success.”

HOW JADE TOOK ITS OWN ADVICE

The cobbler’s children, so the saying goes, have no shoes. And after decades helping the rest of the industry thrive, it was time for Jade to step up its own operations – with a £4m investment, a new MD and a complete business restructure.

The idea that professionals often neglect themselves while helping others is one that might touch a nerve for Jade. Ubiquitous in the industry, Jade’s machine tools can be found in the production lines of most frame makers, with aluminium and PVC fabricators alike relying on them. But while Jade was busy helping other businesses run smoothly, its own operations risked being left behind.

For years, Jade operated as a highly specialised yet owner-dependent business. Fellow directors Sean Mackey and Adam Jones were deeply embedded in every project, with the entire company’s knowledge and decision-making concentrated in just two people.

“We play an essential role in keeping the milling centres and saws of the industry cutting, scraping and welding,” says Sean. “That’s millions of pounds worth of trade relying on solutions we provide when production challenges occur. It’s a huge privilege and a big responsibility.”

The realisation dawned that Adam and Sean had become so ingrained in the sector that, should anything happen, the impact on the industry could be significant. The turning point came a couple of years ago, on Sean’s 50th birthday: “I found myself

reflecting on what the next decade and more should look like, both for me and for the business. We had ambitions to grow, but we were so consumed by the day-to-day that we couldn’t see the wood for the trees. Continuing like that wasn’t going to work for me, but it also wasn’t the best way to run Jade or support our customers’ either.”

Recognising that their continued success depended on their ability to evolve for the long term, Jade embarked on a full-scale transformation. One to secure not only the

future of the business but also strengthen the entire sector they serve.

Understanding they couldn’t do it alone, Sean and Adam sought external expertise. Enter Gareth Davies, a business strategist with no prior experience in fenestration. His background lay in HR, outsourcing, and more recently managing civil service pensions - a far cry from the world of CNC saws and welding centres. But the view that distance gave him proved invaluable.

Gareth was appointed as managing director at the start of 2024, and with his help Jade has restructured its operations from the ground up, implementing a framework that will eventually allow the business to function independently of its founders.

At the heart of this transformation was the division of Jade into four distinct areas: JadeTooling, JadeMachines, JadeConsult and JadeBespoke, focused on customising engineering solutions for unique manufacturing challenges. This restructuring achieved two things: it allowed each division to operate more efficiently while simultaneously freeing Sean and Adam from the relentless dayto-day involvement in every aspect of the business.

“It was a tough transition,” admits Adam. “Letting go of areas where we had always been so hands-on wasn’t easy. But working as we had been was no longer viable, and the last thing we wanted to do was let our customers down. Sean and I needed to let

go of the day-to-day operations in order to allow us to work on the business itself.

“We’ll now both be focused outside of our factory in front of the industry, helping systems houses and fabricators identify and solve problems in manufacturing that are affecting the speed and quality of their production. What we won’t be doing is getting embroiled in the detail when it comes to pushing those solutions back through Jade, as the new structure means we don’t need to. Jade can now operate independently of Sean and I, which means more of our personal expertise can go where it’s most needed, to problem-solve and help our customers.”

As part of the restructure, Jade has poured £4m into modernising its operations, including a relocation and refit of its Coventry headquarters. The move into a new 30,000ft2 facility was only around the corner geographically but it proved a key milestone, not just in terms of space but in creating an environment that fostered innovation and efficiency. The investment wasn’t just about the company, says Sean, it was about ensuring Jade could continue supporting the industry at the highest level:

“There aren’t many players in this industry who haven’t, at some point, benefitted from Jade’s expertise. And now, with the changes we’ve made, we’re in an even stronger position to support our customers not just today but for years to come.”

DANNY WILLIAMS ‘COLD CALLING’

Each month our special correspondent Danny Williams* replies to a reader’s letter...

Having read your columns regularly it is pretty clear which way your politics point…do you think that Donald

Why do I feel like I am being set up here?

But actually, I cannot help but wonder about this, about how our beloved Britain might fare under the leadership of such a man. Would he ‘Put the Great back into Britain’ (there, his cap slogan sorted –PGBB!’) or would he bankrupt the place (OK make it more bankrupt)?

Recently I have been doing some research about the US economy that compared Trump’s previous administration’s economic policies and outcomes with those of Joe Biden. The upshot was that Trump made the rich even richer – the S&P 500 rose by 67% between 2017 and 2020 – but the National Debt increased by about $7.8 trillion, from $19.9 trillion to $27.7 trillion, though the period did include Covid. Although Trump would have it that Biden ruined the country, National Debt increased less under Biden (though still immense!) though Biden grew employment significantly more than the previous Trump government.

And yet Trump was hailed as the saviour when he took office for the current term, proof that if you shout the loudest then your version of the truth is the one most likely to be heard and listened to. He is undoubtedly very good at that and consumer confidence is higher now than under Sleepy Joe.

I always hoped that Boris would have PGBB if I am honest but it seems the greatest quality he shared with Trump was the ability to talk rubbish without any sort of forethought. Boris failed to provide any sort of substance to his waffle, though I do believe that he handled Covid as well as anybody could have, and better than most.

But back to your question TR….

I have despaired in recent years that we are losing our sense of pride in our nation, that patriotism has been hijacked and turned into a dirty word. Prime Minister Trump would restore that, without a doubt. He would emphasise British sovereignty, economic protectionism, whilst reducing reliance on the EU. And, just as he is doing in this term, he would confront and challenge the EU, going up against Europe with threats of tariffs and without a doubt, demand

greater contributions to defence expenditure. Just as he is currently in fact…and it is working.

He would go for tax cuts and deregulation, but REAL and not cloaked in the sort of BS that the current UK government is so shamefully doing. He would establish Britain as a tax haven to attract multinationals to establish their businesses here, though further increasing confrontation with our European neighbours. And the NHS would be stripped out, effectively ‘undone’ and with great swathes of it privatised. And whilst I do not want this great institution destroyed, Prime Minister Trump would not fear the outcry that prevents the radical overhaul that it so obviously needs.

I have referred to my personal disdain for the words ‘benefits’ and ‘entitled’ in combination and, to coin a pun, this would be his ‘Trump card’: bring an end to the unfiltered hand-outs to Britain’s slothful, habitual scroungers.

Immigration… Prime Minister Trump would re-introduce and enforce the Rwanda scheme, which was so successful when it appeared that it was actually being introduced by the last British government. And in the unlikely event that this in itself failed to stop the inflatable invasion, he would simply close the coastline adjacent to the English Channel (at least he wouldn’t have to rename it), and build a fifty mile-long floating fence that would simply block the way of the boats.

He would also threaten to annexe France of course, making it pointless in anyone making the perilous trip across the English Channel in the first place: ‘We will call it Britainie because those people always wanted to be British, that’s why they named it that way and it will be a great part of the Great Britain with lots of sun and skiing and wine, they have lots of wine…’

Prime Minister Trump would dismiss wokeism and speak out against or better still, simply dismiss those minorities whose voices are (ironically somewhat like his) heard because they shout the loudest, not that what they say is right or appropriate. He would encourage police to take a tougher stance on protests, particularly left-wing ones. Something with which I hold strong views, he would push a ‘Buy British’ policy, possibly introducing tariffs on imported goods to protect British industries, pressurising companies to manufacture in the UK instead of outsourcing

and importing. And whilst of necessity to make ends meet Starmer is cutting foreign aid programs, Trump would slash the largesse that is lining the pockets of sponging despots around the world, arguing that Britain should prioritize its own citizens.

Of course, drilling for oil would resume in the North Sea, and fracking would be encouraged, whilst electric vehicles would be discouraged with concessions given to the owners of cars powered by large V8 petrol engines.

For us in the window and door industry TR, I believe he would listen to a common-sense proposal that a tax would be imposed on properties which windows and garden doors are over 10 years old. In the meantime, new replacements would be zero VAT rated.

Further suggestions from friends and colleagues with whom I have had brief consultations on the question of what Blighty would look like under Prime Minister Trump, included a day off a week for all golfers to improve their handicap (handicaps would be audited by the inland revenue); and tax relief for tanning parlours.

Oh, and of course he would willingly open the FIT Show when it takes place at the NEC at the end of April: ‘This is the FIT Show, the greatest window and door show ever, I love this show, it is full of patriotic, heroic British people, who are doing a fine job, making the best windows in the whole world….’ (Perhaps FIT has a surprise for us!).

Having had this bit of fun TR, I have to say that I deplore the man’s behaviour when bullying and humiliating Ukrainian President Zelenskyy on live television early in March; there was no justification in doing this. As much of an arse was Boris, he would never have behaved in such a way, simply because he is British.

I have read Trump described as a ‘Jabba the Hutt of privilege’; he is a bully, he has no class and is entirely intuitive but in the way of a crocodile. Whilst he is a tyrant I – and many others in the UK - also believe that he is effective in dealing with many of the issues that face the US and indeed, internationally. If he is responsible for creating peace in Ukraine, is it not conceivable that he could be awarded a Nobel prize? What a thought…

This has been a fun project TR. But I cannot help but wonder if Prime Minister Trump would cut through so much of the BS that is holding our beloved country back. And put the Great back into Britain.

Trump would make a good British Prime Minister?
