Memorial arrangements have been made for Danny Wheeler, the longest-serving member of Georgina and York Region councils, who died Nov. 1 at the age of 69.

Visitations will be held in the Egypt Hall at 6756 Smith Blvd., Pefferlaw on Nov. 10 from 1 to 5 p.m. and Nov. 11 from 6 to 9 p.m.

A memorial service will be held in the Great Hall of York Region’s headquarters on Nov. 12 at 1 p.m.

A day after Georgina council honoured Wheeler in its council chambers Nov. 2, regional councillors remembered him at a committee meeting.

Councillors from across York remembered Wheeler’s integrity, kind personality and sense of humour.

munity, as they benefitted from his years of dedicated service,” Georgina Mayor Margaret Quirk said, pointing out he served for 11 consecutive terms on Georgina council, dating back to 1982.

“Danny was here when (Georgina) was still a township, so it could be said that first there was Danny Wheeler and then there was the Town of Georgina.”

Wheeler will be remembered for his commitment to environmental concerns, as he served on the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority, said Aurora Mayor Geoff Dawe, who chairs the authority.

Wheeler’s family requests donations in his memory be made to the Southlake Regional Health Centre Foundation - ICU Department, the Town of Georgina - Accessibility Fund or a charity of your choice.

"There is no question that child poverty is a growing challenge in York Region," said Newmarket Regional Councillor John Taylor.

"Certainly, we know that addressing child poverty means addressing family poverty."

The Human Services Planning Board is looking at addressing family poverty by tackling issues such as the need to provide more affordable housing and more rental housing and addressing precarious employment and under-employment.

"Ensuring families find stable employment is the first step to lifting children out of poverty," said Taylor, who is chair of York Region's Community and Health Services Committee and co-chair of the Human Services Planning Board.

There are provincewide initiatives to ensure children don't go hungry, receive dental care and access to recreational and educational programs, but politicians and advocates say eliminating childhood poverty comes down to ensuring parents have an adequate income.

"A family having sufficient income is one of the ways we can reduce child poverty," explains Peterborough MPP Jeff Leal.

He says the Ontario Child Benefit is the cornerstone of Ontario's poverty reduction strategy for children. In 2015, the provincial government increased the maximum child benefit to $1,336 per child under the age of 18.

The MPP says the province also has approximately 4,000 different programs offering nutritious breakfast, lunches and snacks.

"The ability to succeed in school means you have to start the day with a great breakfast and many folks think that is the most important meal of the day," he explains, noting an estimated 800,000 children take advantage of the programs.

Healthy Smiles, a provincially-funded program, services approximately 460,000 children with free preventive, routine, and emergency dental services for children and youths 17 and under from low-income households.

At the federal level, the Liberal government replaced current Canada Child Tax Benefit, National Child Benefit and Universal Child Care Benefit with one child benefit that will put more money in wallets of low-

tion platform was promising $20 billion over 10 years for social infrastructure.

"These investments will prioritize affordable housing," she explains. "It will also provide supports to municipalities to maintain rent-geared-to-income subsidy."

She adds bringing back the long form census would allow a more accurate measure poverty across Canada. "Knowledge is power," she says.

Municipalities, too, do what they can to help feed low-income families and subsidize recreational and educational programs.

"You want kids to be healthy and have opportunities to make friends and socialize," said Diane

Therrien, city councillor and facilitator of Community Education and Engagement for the Peterborough Poverty Reduction Network, adding, "But everything is little pieces to the bigger puzzle." Therrien says these programs are helpful but are not solutions.

"It remains a fact if their parents are living in poverty - they (children) are going to be living in poverty," she said, noting an estimated 20 per cent of children in Peterborough are living in poverty.

"The idea that when you are walking by a playground and there are 100 kids there, quite a few of them are living in poverty is scary."

"This is an initiative that will lift 100,000 children out of poverty and will benefit nine out of 10 Canadian families," Peterborough MP Maryam Monsef says.

"It is going to be tied to income so that it provides the greatest support to those that need the help the most."

Monsef says poverty is not just about dollars and having food on the table, but also having a dignified roof over your head.

Georgina Cares marks 20-year milestone Live auction Nov. 27

Well, 20 years later, we have raised thousands of dollars and helped hundreds of kids by subsidizing the cost of everything from sporting activities, summer camps, medical devices and orthodontic work to assisting families who have suffered cata-

ROb GROssi It was 20 years ago when I phoned the late John Slykhuis (the former editor of this newspaper) and asked him if he would help me start a new kids charity in Georgina. His answer was simple. “Sure Rob, I’ll help anyway I can”.

After a few more phone calls to some people who I knew would be eager to volunteer their time, a meeting was arranged at the home of Bob and Becky Golden. We all discussed the need and I presented my ideas for this new charity.

We all agreed it would be called “Georgina Cares” and our motto would be “Helping Kids be Kids.”

You see, I had been the Mayor for just over a year and it became evident that there were kids in Georgina who, through no fault of their own, couldn’t afford to participate with

strophic events and illnesses. It’s the way our community says we really care.

It was through the dedication and effort of the many individuals who have sat as members of the Board of Directors that has allowed us to be successful, as well as the great business people who, time and time again, amaze us with their generosity.

Much of the work we do happens behind the scenes, however, it’s all hands on deck when it comes to our annual TV auction.

Poverty is here

his is where it starts: sometime this month - or maybe next - a mid-size company in the GTA is pushed to outsource a department to stay viable.

A person loses a job.

At first, he finds freelance work, then temporary manual labour gigs. Then, nothing.

A single parent, he looks at starting his own business, but that would require an infusion of cash. Or retraining, but that, too, would cost money, and leave the household without an income for an extended period of time.

The first things to go are the luxuries - TV packages, smartphones, music lessons. The SUV is traded in for a used compact car. Next come some harder choices - running the washing machine less often to save on hydro and water, fewer trips to the grocery store supplemented with items from the local food bank.

One day - and then the next - both kids go to school without breakfast. These are the faces of child poverty in our communities.

In a Metroland special investigative series, reporters from community papers across southern Ontario examine the issue of child poverty, which may at first blush not be visible in affluent areas such as York Region.

‘Make no mistake: child poverty is family poverty, and it is a cycle we need to break.’

They present research that says more than 370,000 Ontario children (or 13.8 per cent) lived in a low-income household in 2013, only slightly better than the national average of 14.3 per cent. They also found that more than 800,000 students take part in more than 4,000 school meal programs across the province. Included in the articles are interviews with educators, food bank workers and politicians. The series has been running in our Thursday print editions.

Food banks and breakfast programs are busy. And we have no idea how many don’t seek out assistance because of the stigma attached to poverty.

Certainly, initiatives such as the recent changes to the Child Tax Benefit program will help address the problem. As well, accurate, detailed information garnered through the recently restored long-form Census will aid in creating a focused poverty plan. But it could be years before such strategies bear fruit.

Other avenues that need to be explored include economic development initiatives that focus on maintaining - and creating - local jobs, investments in training and seeking out ways to help Ontario Works clients secure meaningful employment without worrying about clawbacks to benefits. Most of all, students need to learn life skills and strategies that will help put them on a path to a successful future.

Make no mistake: child poverty is family poverty, and it is a cycle we need to break.

We all have a part to play. Let’s get to it.

• LETTERS • Continue to report on impaired driving Re: From the Newsroom: Impaired driving: Are we doing enough?, Oct. 3.

As a survivor of a car crash caused by an impaired driver, I feel compelled to respond to the article posted on yorkregion.com on Oct. 3, 2016 where you questioned the need to identify and publish the names of drivers charged with impaired driving. It is my opinion that the news media should be fully engaged in reporting all incidences of impaired driving including the names of the accused.

Over the last few years, there has been a growing sentiment that drinking and driving is becoming less socially acceptable.

Helping to drive this

change has been government regulations tightening up the laws backed up by effective law enforcement. The media have been an important part of this process by publishing stories, thereby keeping the message in the public’s mind. Your paper’s decision to continue to publish stories on impaired driving adds to the momentum in shifting the paradigm of social acceptance of impaired driving.

A similar change in societal attitudes towards impaired driving parallels the change in societal attitudes 20 years ago toward smoking. At that time, smoking without restrictions as to where and when you could light up was the norm. Remember the ashtrays located in airplane arm rests?

tance of impaired driving is in a rapid decline as it was a decade ago with the social acceptance of smoking.

Clearly, there is work yet to be done to help harden our societies disapproval towards this negative behaviour as evidenced by the continuance of impaired driving statistics. The media should be encouraged to continue to report on this societal menace and thereby hasten the social rejection of this behaviour.

It worked for the social smoking problem, let’s make it work for the impaired driving problem.

Examples cited in letter on gender unrealistic Re: Letter to the editor: Gender evolution lacks equality, respect, Oct. 16.

Mirek’s supposed practical example of a 55-yearold man entering a female change room claiming female gender identity is hardly realistic and offers nothing positive to this debate.

The suggested reaction by the manager is ludicrous as is the whole scenario given which is unlikely to occur, if ever.

Mirek has a lot say about freedom, bigotry, fairness, phobias and rights, but spreading such a ridiculous scenario makes one question Mirek’s mindset and motives.

Shades of Hope advances to Aviva Challenge finals Heidi RiedneR hriedner@yrmg.com

You could say Shades of Hope wildlife refuge centre in Pefferlaw is holding on by a wing and a prayer.

It was the only one of three Georgina-based projects to make the finals of the Aviva Community Fund Challenge, awarding up to 100,000 for community projects.

Winning projects will be announced Dec. 6.

Shades of Hope’s birds of prey rehabilitation flying pen advanced to the final round of voting in its category Monday.

“You win some, you lose some,” was Annabel Slaight’s philosophical response to ClearWater Farm’s barn raising project not making it to the finals

in its category, despite more than 3,000 people parlaying their votes in support of the project.

“That race was a real squeaker for us in an extremely competitive community development category,” Slaight said.

“While we thought we had the votes necessary to make it into the finals, we just didn’t come up with quite enough. But when 3,000 people in the community and their friends step forward to help , you can’t even say the word lose.

It’s truly win in the bigger sense of the word.”

Slaight added the Farm will continue its quest to get the 112-year-old barn rebuilt as a discovery centre for kids.

During the next three weeks, ClearWater offi-

cials will be working with young people to gather their ideas and present their results at the Georgina Arts Centre & Gallery Nov. 26.

There was a win on another front, however, after the Ontario Water Centre received an Ontario Trillium Foundation Grow grant to help develop programming at the ClearWater Farm to help young people grow into community leaders by connecting the land, food and water.

It will mirror the work being done at Toronto’s Evergreen Brickworks, Slaight said, adding a grant from the RBC Foundation will kick-start the Farm’s young agri-prenuers program.

“So, we are still on the move,” she said.

mental and physical health services directly to high schools, youth shelters and community centres, so youth with hindered or limited access have the means to receive health care.

Services include mental health assessment, suicide intervention, counselling, sexual health and addiction education, basic primary care and health screening.

CMHA found that 40 per cent of appointments required mental health counselling.

"What we're learning is that young people are very self-aware that they need mental health support," Shields said. "Our groundbreaking clinic is providing life-saving support for youth in our catchment area. We'd like to see similar initiatives in other communities."

MOBYSS is staffed with a nurse practitioner, a mental health counsellor and a peer support specialist, who together provide

"holistic and barrier-free" medical, sexual and mental health care seven days a week.

The idea came out of feedback from focus groups organized by CMHA. Shields says the feedback they received made it clear that there was a need for such a service in the region.

"We talked to them (youth) and we heard over and over that youth couldn't access services," Shields said. "We knew they said it's too hard to get around York Region, so we put it together by listening to those who needed the service."

At $150 per visit, MOBYSS is funded by a variety of sources which includes the provincial government, corporations, individual and family donations and fundraising initiatives.

"We're always looking for sustainable funding to expand services," Shields said. "We know there is a need because of lineups at high schools."

Coats4Cold warms hearts, bodies HeIdI RIedNeR hriedner@yrmg.com The cold weather is coming but a local initiative hopes to warm bodies, as well as hearts.

Coats4Cold handed out an assortment of winter clothing to children and families in need during a two-day event at The Link Nov. 5 and 6.

The non-profit organization created by child and youth care apprenticeship students from Centennial College, in conjunction with The Children’s Breakfasts Club, aims to assist the one in every 10 Canadian children in families

struggling to keep warm during what can be brutally cold winters.

Georgina resident and Centennial student Sandy Stanford spearheaded the local drive.

“This endeavour has been so much work, but has become a labour of love,” she said, hopeful the program will warm bodies like it has her heart due to the overwhelming support.

A wide assortment of new and gently used coats, hats, scarves, mittens and other items were available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both days.

The Town of Georgina is reminding pedestrians and cyclists to increase their visibility and for motorists to be more alert to conditions around them. Shorter daylight hours and reduced driver visibility are significant safety issues.

The Town of Georgina has received the following application pursuant to the Planning Act. Town Council will be considering this application at a future public meeting, the date and time of which will be published in the Georgina Advocate and on the Town of Georgina website.

Residents honour veterans at parade, cenotaph services HEIdI RIEdNER hriedner@yrmg.com We wear the blood-red poppy in November, close to our hearts, to remember.

Remembrance should be done faithfully, however, at all times throughout the year.

That was the message from Padre Max Bulmer at the Sutton cenotaph during one of three Remembrance Day services held in Georgina Sunday, Nov. 6.

Bulmer recounted numerous sites and moments he shall personally never forget during his address.

That includes the images from memorial sites at Dachau and Bergen-Belsen concentration camps.

“I will never forget those sites. They say, to this day, birds never fly over Bergen-Belsen.”

Bulmer also remembered being honoured to be among those with the president of the Royal Canadian Legion when he presented the first poppy to the Governor General of Canada, as well as con-

ducting Canadian services at a Dutch cemetery in Holland accompanied by a contingent of Canadian teenagers more than a decade ago.

“All those teenagers had tears in their eyes because Nov. 11 meant a lot to them. It means a lot now.”

The lives lost, the personal sacrifice and those continuing to fight were among the many remembered in thought, prayer and the laying of wreaths Sunday in Keswick, Sutton and Pefferlaw.

That included “two important pieces of our hearts” for Aaliyah Platt of Sutton.

The images of “Mom and Poppa White” in frames flanked the sixyear-old as she knelt in the damp grass, remembering her grandparents during the somber and well-attended ceremony in Sutton.

Her mom, Charity, felt blessed that her daughter and son, Cai, wanted to not only remember their own, but also show their respect to past, present and future members of the Canadian Armed

The playing of The Last Post and Amazing Grace were emotional backdrops to the act of remembrance.

So were the words of Bulmer.

“When we remember warfare and truth, it is not just heroism and victory, but also the brutality, terror and the dreadful waste of life,” he said.

But it is also the selfless acts, the moments of astounding courage and the personal sacrifice in the face of strident evil and the failure of humanity, he added.

“They have passed their torch to us and we must carry it forward ... the longing for justice and the hunger for peace ... a better life for all people. Remembrance is for all times throughout the year and not just one day in November shivering around a cenotaph in a chilly wind. Nevertheless, today is a reminder and a day of re-commitment. We shall remember them.”

Renowned publishing pioneer Annabel Slaight can now add watershed hero to her long list of accolades after receiving the top honour at the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA) Awards last week.

"Sometimes, I can cause a bit of a stir," Slaight said

after being presented the George R. Richardson Conservation Award of Honour Nov. 3 in Newmarket.

That is a bit of an understatement.

So, too, is merely saying the OWL magazine cofounder - who helped children develop a love for the environment and science through what became a multi-media entity - is committed to helping save Lake

Simcoe and its watershed.

Indeed, Slaight was recognized for her "tireless and life-long dedication to the environment," Aurora mayor and LSRCA chairperson Geoffrey Dawe said.

The Lake Simcoe Conservation Authority presented its George R. Richardson Conservation Award to Georgina resident Annabel Slaight at its awards event, Thursday. A longtime champion of the environment, Slaight's accomplishments include founding the Rescue Lake Simcoe Coalition, a collaboration of 13 community organizations from around Lake Simcoe whose objective is to actively improve the quality of water in Lake Simcoe. A former member of the federal Lake Simcoe Clean Up Fund PROPEL Committee and ministerial appointee to the Lake Simcoe Coordinating Committee, as well as founding vice chair of the Alliance for a Better Georgina, Slaight has been putting projects and people together for decades and always creating a stir - right from rounding up some ladies and shooting them in strategically placed positions, as well as in the buff, for a fundraising calendar for the lake.

ReWilding projects, the SPLASH Festival, the book Do Fish Fart and the ClearWater Farm initiative in Willow Beach followed.

Honoured by the award, Slaight added it is really for all citizens of Lake Simcoe and credited the many peo-

ple working, volunteering and adding their efforts to the cause.

She thanked the kids who were involved in the creation of the OWL empire and recent Do Fish Fart book for the "great things that can happen when you listen to kids".

Special acknowledgement for "what got ya here when you win a prize for a life's work" was reserved for Brian Slaight, whom Slaight called "a steady source of wisdom, love and support for me", as well as Wanda Big Canoe.

"I remember her out there -she might have been 80 --in the buff on a sand spit off Georgina Island for hours holding little feathers in the air until the light at sunset was just perfect for the September picture in the calendar. Wanda, without saying much, always demonstrated to me

the power of living life to the fullest, and how great it is to feel you are part of nature -not a person trying to master it."

That philosophy gave rise to the Ladies of the Lake bywords "you can't fix a lake, but you can help people stop hurting it so that it can start healing itself," Slaight said.

If hope floats for the health of Lake Simcoe, it is in large part to Slaight, who has not only anchored but also buoyed numerous watershed initiatives for decades.

Slaight has also received the Order of Ontario, Canadian Film and Television's Lifetime Achievement Award, the Royal Canadian Institute's Sir Sanford Fleming Award for promoting science education, and the Ontario Lieutenant Governor's Environmental Heritage Award.

A new $45-million Civic Centre has been added to upcoming budget talks after consultants tabled their recommendations regarding the town’s administrative and political seat of government last week at council.

Just how that fits into the town’s long-term financial plan and garnering public input regarding the potential move are two key factors to be further explored, according to council members, who were presented with five options that ranged from renovating the current site to constructing a new building.

Demolishing the current Civic Centre and constructing a new one in conjunction with the Multi-Use Recreational Complex (MURC) slated for the south end of Keswick was the preferred option from Pivotal Projects Inc. after a three-month feasibility and site suitability study summa-

rized in an 80-page report.

Consultants estimated construction of a new building twinned with the MURC (initially pegged at $30 million as a standalone project) would cost between $20 million and $25 million to build with a total cost of $45 million factoring in operational and borrowing costs over a 30-year window.

In addition, between $1 million and $1.4 million will have to be spent on the current building to address immediate issues over the next three to five years, which is the time needed to implement a long-term solution.

“The analysis has shown that although the existing building can be upgraded, modernized and improved, the inherent inefficiencies in floorplate shape and structure will yield a sub-optimal solution for a modern, contemporary and flexible office environment,” according to the report, which further states the preferred option out of the five - all ranging

between $44 million and $52 million over a 30-year window - is the best value for the money.

More specifically, and notwithstanding the current building’s historical and iconic significance, the current building is “deficient” in a number of ways, according to the report.

While currently “grandfathered” from a code compliance perspective, the building does not meet current building code in

conceded council needs to “think of the future.

“We may be up against a wall here and we may have no choice,” she said, especially considering the town may have a new and more efficient building for relatively the same cost at the end of the day as making the current site fit the town’s needs .

Mayor Margaret Quirk agreed.

“We have some tough decisions to make,” she said, adding extensive public consultation would be sought so residents would fully understand the complexity of the issue and not think “it’s just because we think we have to have a new pretty building.

“We have some real deficiencies here,” Quirk said, adding the report’s recommendations will be incorporated into the town’s longterm financial plan and upcoming budget discussions so council can make the best decision “where to go from here.”

Georgina Business School sets students up for success A relaxed atmosphere, small class sizes and plenty of one-on-one instruction are some of the many benefits offered to students at the Georgina Business School in Keswick.

Now in its sixth year of operation, certified trainers offer instruction in office administration and bookkeeping — everything from Excel and QuickBooks to Word to the basic fundamentals of computers and the internet.

“We teach the basic skills and knowledge that allow our students to go into any office environment and do the job with confidence and competency,” explains Terri Hershoran, who takes care of the bookkeeping courses, while Kyla Hershoran handles instruction on the business administration side.

The main mandate of the school, however, is to empower students with transferable skills that they can keep for their entire lives.

“We want our students to improve their ability to work in a professional environment and improve their earning potential,” says Terri. “We can’t guarantee our students get a job, but we feel confident in saying we definitely provide them with the knowledge and the tools that offer the best chance of get-

ting a job.”

That sentiment is backed by a track record that has 90 per cent of the school’s students getting a job, with the remaining 10 per cent using their skills to run home-based businesses.

That track record also includes ringing endorsements from former students, who credit the hands-on approach, collaborative teaching style and personal attention at the school for their career success.

A unique learning program with hands-on instruction in groups with no more than five students for the most part lets you practice as you learn with plenty of time for one-on-one guidance.

“Offering post-course support to our former students is a key element of what we do,” adds Terri.

Before that, however, students don’t “pass” until they“get it”, she adds.

“We’re not about taking exams, or people’s money, for seeing if they can just rhyme off stuff from memory,” says Terri, adding following instructions doesn’t work if students don’t understand, learn and have the ability to work with the various software programs.

“Just following instructions in a textbook won’t work. Clicking the keys and

moving the mouse won’t help them if they don’t understand why, when and how to do something.”

Going back to school can be an expensive and daunting experience, but the Georgina Business School could be the best investment you make in your future.

Region’s most dangerous intersections revealed

The five most dangerous intersections in York Region are, for the most part, directly related to volume of traffic, according to Brian Titherington, the region’s director of road and traffic operations.

Statistics show between 90 to 95 per cent of all North American crashes are due to driver error.

Hwy. 7 and Weston Road, Vaughan, is the busiest intersection in the region by volume, has shops on every side, two entranceways to Hwy. 400 and multiple double left-hand turns.

Major Mackenzie Drive and Hwy. 400 offramp, Vaughan, is currently under construction that is expected to improve safety. However the danger remains. The improvements include "cleaning up the grid", according to Titherington, turning it into a more "urban street".

Weston and Rutherford roads, Vaughan, is always plagued by plenty of volume, especially during rush hour traffic.

Hwy. 7 and Keele Street, Vaughan, is well-trodden route for industrial-sized trucks and has two left turns on each entry into the intersection. However, Titherington notes a new nearby Rapidway is under construction. The good news is that in Markham, where the rapid way was recently completed, Titherington said, crashes were down 25 per cent.

Yonge Street and Green Lane, Newmarket is indicative of a rural road morphing into a suburban road very quickly, possibly explaining some of the danger surrounding the intersection. Titherington said the road not only escalates in speed from 60 km/h to 80 km/h near the intersection but also gives motorists plenty more to look at, with a largely barren road turning into one involving shops, plazas and drivers turning into and out of parking lots. Traffic at this site might soon be relieved by the connection of Bathurst St. to Hwy. 11.

Red-light cameras, currently only positioned at Number 1 and 5, have heralded a huge decrease in the number of t-bone crashes at the region’s intersections: At Green Lane and Yonge Street, collisions fell from 14 in 2013 to four in 2014. At Hwy. 7 and Weston Road, they dropped from 15 to nine. In all, Titherington said there has been an almost 50 per cent drop in collisions at all 20 intersections, falling from 71 collisions to 37.

WHAT KIND OF A FRIEND ARE YOU? What kind of a friend are you? We read in the book of Proverbs (17:17): “A friend is always loyal, and a brother is born to help in time of need”. We also read in Proverbs (18:1): “Unfriendly people care only about themselves; they defy sound judgement”.

There is a vast difference between knowing someone well and being a true friend. The greatest evidence of friendship is loyalty. The apostle Paul wrote (1 Corinthians 13:7): “Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful and endures through every circumstance”.

Too many people are fair-weather friends. They stick around when the friendship helps them and leave when they are not getting anything out of the relationship.

But, what a friend we have in Jesus! He encourages us to (Matthew 11:28): “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Let me teach you, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls”. Can we find a friend so faithful?

MCCOWAN, Lee Walter Tragically, as a result of a car accident at the age of 26. Always quick with a smile, Lee would charm the room whatever the situation.

His love of life, family and friends was contagious. Lee was proud to call Keswick home. Active in hockey and lacrosse, Lee would walk in to a dressing room on the first day, emerging to say he had a whole room of new best friends. A graduate of Keswick High, Lee progressed on to Fanshawe College.

After school, Lee worked in the horticultural field, later moving to Red Deer, Alberta where he worked in the oil and gas industry. Upon returning home to Keswick in September, Lee was most recently employed with Weller Tree Service.

Lee will be missed beyond belief. His larger than life spirit will forever live on in the hearts of his mother Cora, father Ian, and sister Erin, nana, aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of amazing, loyal friends.

Visitation will be held at the Keswick Presbyterian Church, 23449 Woodbine Avenue, Keswick on Sunday, November 13, 2016 from 4-7 p.m. Followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Salvation Army Sutton Youth Shelter would be appreciated.
