Georgina cleaning service employees charged with theft, possession Two Georgina residents working for a local cleaning service have been charged with theft and possession of a narcotic.

York Regional Police confirm two women working for You Have It Maid residential cleaning services have each been charged with theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and possession of a narcotic, after an investigation lodged in December.

Police were contacted Dec. 11 regarding a theft of prescription medication, alleged to have been committed by people hired to clean the complainant’s house in Keswick.

Following cleanings, the complainant noticed prescription pills were missing.

Investigators feel there may be more victims out there and urge anyone who may have used this cleaning service and noticed items missing to come forward.

After nearly three decades as a familyrun business, a Keswick funeral home has changed hands.

While the M.W. Becker Funeral Home no longer has the family that established it at its helm, the business will very much remain a “family-focused” operation under new ownership.

Marvin and Vyrl Becker made the bittersweet decision to retire from the funeral home profession last year, mainly due to health reasons that made it impossible for Marvin to continue his work as a funeral director.

“It was time,” said the 62-year-old Marvin, who not only looks forward to entering a new phase of life with great anticipation, but also looks back with great fondness and offers thanks to many family, friends and a community that helped shape a rewarding career.

“We have seen many changes during the past 29 years,” said Becker, who purchased The Queensway South property just south of Glenwoods Avenue in 1985, moved into the house in 1986 and opened for business in January 1987.

“The one thing that has not changed is the great connection, love and support from the families here in Georgina, leaving us with lasting memories and lifetime friendships that will continue to grow,” he added.

Becker said it has been a privilege and honour to have had the opportunity to serve the families of Georgina during their time of need.

First and foremost, he thanked his daughters — Jilian and Kaitlyn — for allowing that to happen through their continued love and support.

“We know it wasn’t always easy growing up in a funeral home,” Becker acknowledged with not only great humour, but also thoughtful consideration and warmth.

Kaitlyn actually took up the family business in 2009 and stepped it up a notch, according to Becker, who credited his daughter with new ideas, hard work and dedication that made it possible for the business to evolve in response to the changing needs and desires of the community.

“Kaitlyn developed a love for the funeral home and families at a very young age by being curious and always wanting to know who was in the home.”

Becker doesn’t elaborate, but said the families of Pollard and Ed Baiden will know how both men played a significant part in the early business years and will never be forgotten.

“We’d also like to thank Lloyd’s wife, Pat, for always being there for us and welcoming us as a family to their home.”

Still, after almost 30 years, Becker acknowledged the funeral business is a round-the-clock commitment — one that he and his wife gladly embraced, but won’t miss moving forward.

It can be a challenging job — always oncall, attending to a grieving family at any point in the day and dealing with pain and sadness regularly.

Becker and his wife, however, have no regrets looking back.

The ClearWater Farm project in Willow Beach is close to reaching its first major milestone of $225,000 in funding since inking its lease with the town six months ago, according to an update of the project tabled at council Wednesday.

And with the Ontario Water Centre just $25,000 shy of its initial fundraising milestone, with $200,000 either raised or committed as of Dec. 31, 2015, it may be safe to assume the farm extension property, which includes the main house and its front property, will be included in the terms of the lease starting April 1.

That’s because $225,000 must be either raised or committed by the end of March to have the farmhouse included in the lease, the town’s economic development department confirmed.

The Ontario Water Centre signed a lease with the town in August for a 3.6-hectare portion of the indirect lakefront property formerly known as the Reed Farm/Sedore property at 481 Lake Dr. E. It brought to fruition at least one element of a lengthy public debate over the future vision for the property since the town purchased it in two separate real estate transactions between 2012 and 2013 for $3.2 million.

The first order of business in August was planting “pilot” half-acre lots with produce

being used for marketing purposes and sold to Cori’s Café.

Since August, the OWC has focused primarily on staging the property so it could be presented advantageously to potential partners, funders and suppliers, according to the OWC’s semi-annual report covering August to December of last year.

Numerous design workshops, tours and consultations have been conducted in addition to branding research and planning with Fingerprint Marketing.

Numerous funding applications have been prepared, including those through the Greenbelt Fund and Rural Economic Development Fund.

Some shopping tips hard to swallow

A

mid news of the plummeting value of the loonie and the skyrocketing price of groceries, I’ve been reading articles about how to save at the supermarket.

Sadly, they all seem to include the same tips I’ve heard before and have a hard time following.

Other than the tried and true method of just staying home and, whenever you get hungry, having a glass of water, there are not many ways to avoid buying food.

However, if you know of one, let me know, as in our household we can spend as much as $200 a week on groceries, which puts us in the $10,000 a year range, which kind of makes me lose my appetite whenever I do the math.

As with most of life’s necessities, like breathing, there is not much that can be done here except grin and bear it and keep shopping, with these tips.

1. “Eat before your shop.” Better yet, eat while you shop! I’ve seen this several times and wonder if the people who are snacking and grazing their way to the checkout pay for all they have consumed.

You almost think they just push the cart around for a while, eat a bit of this, a bit of that — they always look like a connoisseur, sampling the goods to ensure they are up to their very high standards — and then leave the cart near the front and walk out. Perhaps there needs to be a weigh-in of this type of customer.

“Sir, we’ve been watching you, and by our estimation you’ve eaten two pounds of four varieties of grapes and a pound of peanuts from the bulk section. Please sit on this produce scale and we’ll tally it up.”

2. “Skip the bottled water.” Your point being? That bottled water is tap water, just tap water from a town other than your town? So, why pay for it while also creating plastic waste? OK, fine. But! Bottled water allows us to entertain a certain conspiracy theory, in our own very small way, about government incompetence and/or hidden health hazards created by Big Water. OK, fine.

3. “Price match; use coupons.”

Good idea. However, I think there should be special aisle for people

Not that we don’t love these people, and respect and even envy them. It’s just some of us have this thing about using coupons or doing the price matching thing.

Call it pride. Call it foolishness. Call it impatience. Call it what you will.

We just aren’t doing it. Seems we’d rather lose everything and live in a shoebox at the side of the road than go to the cash and hold up the competitor’s flyer and say, “See! See! See this deal on pomegranate juice at your competitor’s? What’s wrong with you people!”

4. “Look down, since stores place the most expensive items at eye level.” I have a hard time believing this is true, however if things keep going the way they are going and you see a tall guy crawling through the store on his knees some time in the not-to-distant future, that will be me.

5. “Avoid checkout temptations.” As in the opportunity to buy any three gossip magazines for just $10, all featuring a Kardashian on the cover! I’d rather go home and stare at the ceiling.

6. “Shop with a plan.” Despite the shopping apps to make our lives easier, provide us with lists and reminders and point us toward deals, the majority of people I see are still wandering aisle by aisle armed with a list scribbled on the back of an envelope. This is how it should be!

We mosey in there, grab a cart and start browsing around, using the same route we used last week.

I mean, have a plan, a route?

Where’s the fun in that? We are adventurers, explorers, hunters and gatherers, searching for our prey, seeking out our hidden gems.

Too much planning takes the sport out of it.

I do believe in freedom of the press and totally understand that you do have the right to edit letters, especially any derogatory parts if you choose.

However, you do not have the right to publish words that I did not write.

The second last paragraph, starting with, “As a result, once the loan is repaid …”, was not written by me.

While the newspaper may “think” that was what I was implying (which it was not), you had no right to publish words attributing them to me.

In addition, as part of your Editor’s Note, you stated, “The $220,000 figure, which was provided by the town, includes the cost of repairing the gal-

lery’s roof this fall”.

For further clarification, the town did not “give” this amount to the GAC as part of any grant, they used it to protect a town asset where the roof had leaked for at least the last four years and which was due to be replaced back in 2007.

Do we have to pay for space to get a positive message out and are you ever going to ask the GAC for comment?

Do you care about the 65-plus local artists we support who have their wares on sale at the GAC or the many classes and juried shows we run for the public?

UPDATE – WHAT’S HAPPENING AT THE ROC Over the past couple of days, significant snowmaking has taken place at The ROC. As of Wednesday, January 13, The ROC will have two tube lanes and the toboggan hill open. The ROC is also going to have an alpine area open to allow lessons to take place using the lift. We are working hard to build the park and are hoping to have some terrain park available when The ROC opens at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 15.

Please note, the rink did suffer fairly significant damage during the rainfall this past weekend, but we have begun to rebuild it and hope to have it open to the public in a couple of days. Snowmaking also continues at the ROC for the next couple of days. Stay tuned for more updates regarding the Terrain Park.

The Georgina Arts Centre and Gallery (GAC) is thrilled to announce a one-time only performance by two of the world’s most famous flutists — Luisa Sello and Susan Hoeppner — on Sunday, Feb. 7 at 2 p.m.

Sello is a world renowned virtuoso who records for Stradivarius Records and has performed at Carnegie Hall and across the world.

Hoeppner, whose performances span four continents, is one of Canada’s foremost flutists and is the only Canadian to be appointed a “Haynes Artist”.

“This gift of such accomplished artists

performing in Georgina was made possible through the friendship between Steeve and Ewa Chwojko,” GAC chairperson Barbara Rogers said.

“We are thrilled to have these world-class artists at the centre. Luisa Sello’s gift to Ewa (GAC’s curator) and her husband composer Steeve was to perform with her good friend Susan Hoeppner here in their hometown at the centre,” Rogers added.

Seating is limited and tickets are $25 each and $15 for students.

In a year often dominated by escalating labour conflict on the education front, David Polegato, David Clegg and Elena Di Nardo emerged as public voices of the conflict in York Region.

Fortunately, the labour strife came to an end in the fall when the province reached deals with unions representing teachers and education workers but not before tensions had intensified.

David Polegato is Grade 8 student at Fairwood Public School in Keswick.

In sharing his frustration about the escalating work-to-rule campaign launched in the spring and the withdrawal of extra-curricular activities, he expressed the feelings likely felt by thousands of students, and parents, across the region.

The school year didn’t get off to the start David wanted.

Field trips were cancelled.

Things went further downhill when word came voluntary extra-curricular activities would be suspended.

For David, that meant an end to his volleyball team and the prospect of no further sports teams or grad trip unless a settlement was reached.

“It’s really annoying because that’s the one escape from school we kind of have, the one good thing, and now it’s gone. Everything

has already been stripped down, so we really don’t have any other reason to go to school than we are forced to anymore,” he said in October.

“The school day is pretty much get there, do your work, that’s about it, nothing else.”

Meanwhile, while Premier Kathleen Wynne and Education Minister Liz Sandals expressed the province’s concerns with labour difficulties that dragged on for months, Clegg and Di Nardo stepped up to the plate as the voices for local educators during the disruptions.

Clegg is York Region president of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario while Di Nardo is the president of Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 2331 representing education workers such as educational assistants, custodians, secretaries, library technicians, early childhood educators and others.

Both were particularly upset when Wynne threatened to dock the pay of elementary teachers and education workers by Nov. 1 unless they reached settlements, as other unions had achieved by that point.

Fortunately, cooler heads prevailed and,

by November, elementary teachers and education workers had joined other unions in accepting deals without resorting to fullblown strikes.

Workers were thrilled to settle, Di Nardo said.

Scars healing at foundation

After a turbulent summer fraught with volunteer and staff resignations, relentless rumours and the glare of public scrutiny, Southlake Regional Health Centre Foundation is “repairing and rebuilding” relationships, hospital president and CEO Dr. Dave Williams said.

Southlake Foundation president and CEO Neila Poscente and Williams reflected on the challenges spawned by the abrupt mass resignation of a majority of the foundation’s board of directors June 30.

The exodus, according to former foundation board member Jim Alexander, was in protest to a directive from the hospital board to replace Poscente.

The duo also discussed remedial responses to negative perceptions caused by staff departures, including that of former foundation philanthropy and engagement vice-president Dora Boylen-Pabst and foundation print communications and media co-ordinator Jenn Rae. In the midst of the upheaval, foundation Black Tie Gala co-chairpersons Felicia Salomon and Susan Chant also handed in their resignations.

It was a highly pressured chapter for

Southlake, Williams said. “It was stressful for the community, hospital staff and foundation staff,” he said.

While no formal reason has been offered for the rift between the foundation and hospital boards, Williams contends part of the problem was differing perceptions.

“Things happen in large organizations,” he said. “Sometimes we stumble. We came to understand that there was a breakdown in communications that led to a breakdown of relationships.”

The drama swirling around the hospital was worrisome, admitted Poscente, whose foundation is the hospital’s fundraising wing.

“No doubt that what happened had an impact on our community and the community’s trust in the organization,” she said.

In damage control mode, she and Williams have been meeting with major supporters to reassure them the organization is “moving forward.”

Emmerson points to Region’s successes in 2015

“I think the first year went very well. I think we’ve all adjusted to a new chair because Bill (Fisch, who retired as regional chair in 2014 after serving in the role for 17 years) was here for a long time,” he said.

“I think council is really working well together and I’m hoping they say the same, which (is what I’m hearing) from them.”

Emmerson pointed to several achievements by the region in 2015, including moving for the first time to a four-year budget forecast that set out a financial and policy blueprint for the entire term of council.

The four-year forecast includes tax increases of 2.97 per cent for 2015 and 2.85 per cent for 2016, now approved, and projected tax hikes of 2.69 per cent in 2017 and 2.35 per cent in 2018.

“We set a four-year budget, which is a big undertaking to make sure we know the numbers, so we can continue with the programs we want to do and the infrastructure,” Emmerson said.

Council launched three task forces on transportation, seniors and broadband in

2015 to address top priorities facing the region, he said.

With residents identifying traffic congestion as their top concern, the region is investing more in roads than ever before, Emmerson said.

The region is spending $721 million on roads from 2015 to 2018.

Meanwhile, the region continues to invest in public transit, Emmerson said.

Sam Rippey was a legend among firefighters

The town halls in Newmarket and Aurora as well as the Central York Fire Services stations are honouring the 83-year-old retired Newmarket fire chief who passed away yesterday at Southlake Regional Health Centre.

Many firefighters looked up to the man who has been described as a firm, but reasonable man to work for and, like many, former CYFS fire Chief John Molyneaux saw him as a role model.

“He was one of a kind and a legend among the firefighters,” he said. “I was fortunate enough to have him as a mentor. He gave me some wonderful opportunities and helped me to become who I became.”

He first met Rippey when he joined the department in 1975 and found there were high expectations of firefighters, but they were fair. He describes Rippey as a man who had a way with words and the talent to balance the needs of taxpayers and firefighters alike.

But not only was he a boss, but also a friend who was a kind and generous man, Molyneaux continued. He was a family man, a father of four and had many friends who

Rippey in 1972 and feels there are three words that sum up the local legend. “I have three ‘F’ words to describe the (former) chief, firm, fair and fun to work with,” he said.

“It was an honour to be associated with him for those years.”

“Sam had a long history with fire services, serving as the first full-time firefighter hired in Newmarket in 1971,” CYFS fire Chief Ian Laing said. “He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his many friends at CYFS and our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.”

Rippey began as a volunteer firefighter with the Newmarket Fire Department in June 1964. He initiated Newmarket firefighters joining the International Association of Firefighters and became president of Local 2511 in 1976.

He was promoted to Newmarket Fire Chief in 1978 and was the driving force behind the creation of the dispatch system for the Aurora, East Gwillimbury and Georgina fire departments.

Rippey served from 1964 to 1993 and was the first fire chief of a full-time force in Newmarket.

Last fall, CYFS paid tribute to him at the annual open house where he participated in the celebrations.

Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in memory of Rippey.

Entered eternal life on Monday, January 4, 2016 at the age of 88 and joined her husband, George, of 52 years. She was predeceased by her parents Camille and Constance Turpin, her brother Jean -Phillipe, her first husband Michael Cashin and her second husband Dr. George Gillen. She leaves behind her brother Gerald (Marilyn) and her children Martin (Rina), Michael (Gillian), Mark (Joyce), Leslie (Michael), Lauren (Shawna) and Lara (Mark). She was the proud grandmother of 13; Christopher, Alyssa, Brittany, Joshua, Shawna, Michelle, David, Alec, Matthew, Lise, Torin, Alana and Gillen. She was also delighted to be the great grandmother of Nathan, Andrew and Daniel. Hazel personified elegance. She will be remembered by family and friends as a graceful hostess with a sharp wit and a ready smile. Hazel dedicated much of her life to raising her six children and managing her husband’s medical practice until his death in 2008. Both she and George spent many years as active choir members at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Oshawa. When she wasn’t hitting high Cs in the choir loft, Hazel might just as easily be found waltzing effortlessly across the dance floor, playing bridge or disappointing herself on the golf green. With all her poise and charm, however, Hazel was just as happy romping through a farmer’s field filled with cows and horses or climbing through her rock garden pulling weeds.

In the end, it was her enduring faith that saw her through the many challenges that marked her path in life, from the loss of her first and second husbands to the physical and mental toll brought on by Parkinson’s disease. The Gillen Family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all those who gave of their skills, time and love to ensure that Hazel could face each day with lady-like grace. In particular, we would like to thank Village Home and Private Care in Durham Region for their years of loving attention, The Court at Pringle Creek in Whitby, and the wonderful staff at both Bon Air Long Term Residence in Cannington, and Graceful Care Services in Georgina. A Mass celebrating her life will be held at ST. GREGORY THE GREAT CATHOLIC CHURCH, 194 Simcoe St. N., Oshawa, Ontario on Saturday, March the 12th at 11:30 am.

Interment will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, 355 Taunton Rd. E., Whitby. A reception will be held afterward at The Court at Pringle Creek, 3975 Anderson Rd., Whitby. For those wishing to send prayers and condolences to the family please visit www.thornefuneralhome.ca.

SMART, MARY CATHERINE (McNally) January 15, 1937 - January 12, 2016 After a 10 year battle with dementia, Mary passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Ross Memorial Hospice in Lindsay, Ontario.

Loving wife of Larry Smart for 58 years. Larry cared for Mary throughout her journey, spending the last two years at their beautiful lakefront home near Bobcaygeon. Beloved Mother to Terry Wilson (Bill), Kelly Drummond (Andrew), Larry Smart (Kristy). Predeceased by daughter Lori Mary Alcorn (Jan 6 2014).

Mary was born in Waterford, Ireland and lovingly raised by her grandmother Catherine McNally. After living in London, England during the second world war they emigrated to North America in 1952.

Mary worked for many years for Bell Canada, then married and settled in Aurora, Ont. While raising their children, Mary also worked part time for the family business. Mary loved gardening , dancing and sewing.

Pete was a TRUE North American … Spending many years in the U.S. as well as Canada. He loved our East and West Canadian Coasts ... and ended up settling down somewhere roughly in the middle - in Ontario - closer to family and friends.

Passed away peacefully at Mackenzie Regional Health Centre in Richmond Hill, on Wednesday, January 6th, 2016 at 73 years of age.

“Live as if no one is watching” was his philosophy. He didn’t believe in regret.

When Pete did something - he did it right. Whether that be his career as a respected, skilled industrial painter - or lighting up the dark Mount Albert sky all year long with his Christmas lights. For Pete, no fire was too big ... no Christmas tree was too bright.

He loved to WORK hard and PARTY hard. He never seemed to stop for a minute. Even to sleep - “You can sleep when you’re dead” he would say. He loved MUSIC and he loved it LOUD. Forever blasting his albums on his stereo.

Pete was a Storyteller. He LOVED to reminisce, and share past adventures.

His need for speed always put him in the fast lane. He enjoyed driving whether it be just around the corner - or a solo trip cross country.

Pete was an EXTREMIST - even when it came to his hobbies. Planting garden after garden, excavating his pond, installing water features - he loved his property and it showed.

His uniform? A Confederate hat, jeans, cowboy boots, and a black trench coat OR - his housecoat.

Pete was also a true Gentleman. Thoughtful, loyal, generous and sentimental ...

He thought the world of his parents, Kay and Gar Rylott. Later in their lives, at a time when they needed him the most, Pete’s devotion was admirable to say the least.

He used to say that he was “settling the score” for the sleepless nights he caused them as a rebellious teenager, and beyond ...

Pete never did care much for Ontario winters. In retirement, he enjoyed Myrtle Beach - being warmed by the sun, the sound of the ocean, sunsets on the water, and just simply watching LIFE walk by ...

For some, Peter Rylott came and went. stayed.

And for the lucky few of us ... he

Pete died peacefully with his best friend Kimberley Tower by his side. He was 60 years old.

Loving husband of Carol Power for nearly 43 years and beloved father of Tammy Janes (Power).

Barry fought a long battle, but passed surrounded by loved ones.

He was a hard-working man with many of his years spent in the computer main frame industry, but with a varied past including miner, factory worker, dance instructor, cab driver and finally in retirement crossing guard near Denne Public School for 11 years. Over his life, his true loves were his family and baseball (mainly the Blue Jays!).

Family and friends gathered at Roadhouse & Rose Funeral Home on January 8th from 7-9pm and January 9th from 10-11am. Funeral service was held at 11am, followed by interment at Highland Memorial Gardens in Toronto.

If desired, memorial donations in Barry’s honour may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

NOBLE, Beverley Peacefully, with her family at her side, at Sunrise of Aurora on January 7, 2016 in her 94th year. Beverley is survived by her nieces and nephews in the Nisbet family Carol, Janet (Richard), Colin (Elaine), Craig (Sharon), David (Shawn), Michael (Vicki), her many grand nieces, grand nephews, and her sister-in-law, Maxine Nisbet.

Predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph Noble, her brothers Keith Nisbet (sister-in-law Marion and sister-in-law Dorothy) and Douglas Nisbet, her niece Lorna Austin and husband Jack Austin.

Raised in Aurora, daughter of Beatrice Day and Colin “Pop” Nisbet, owners of the former Aurora Greenhouse and Aurora Highlands Golf Club, and later Westview Golf Club. Beverley was a life member of the Aurora Historical Society and a long-time volunteer with the Whitchurch-Stouffville Museum in Gormley. In their retirement years, Bev and Joe spent their summers at their home adjacent to Westview Golf Club and their winters in Tarpon Springs, Florida.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at Sunrise of Aurora for all their love and assistance. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Ontario Humane Society.

John was born on December 7, 1929, in Windygates, Fife, Scotland. He served in “The Black Watch” from 1948 -1953 and in the Korean War. During his career, he worked as a police constable in Scotland before immigrating to Canada with his family. Once in Canada, John worked as a policeman in Kitchener, moving through the ranks transferring eventually to Toronto. He retired from the police department, moving to security of Litton systems, and then he worked for the Town of East Gwillimbury. Special thanks to the staff at Southlake Village for their dedicated care.

At John’s request cremation has been arranged. A celebration of life will be held at the Roadhouse & Rose Funeral Home, 157 Main Street South, Newmarket on Friday, January 15, 2016 from 2-4 p.m. scattering of the ashes will be done at a later date, at the rose garden of the Queensville Cemetery. The family requests in lieu of flowers a donation to The Alzheimer’s Society.

It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Mark on Thursday, December 24, 2015 at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket at the age of 48. Beloved and deeply missed by his daughter Avery, mother Madaliene (late James), siblings Ken (Glenda), Diane (late Henry), Michael (Susan), Wendy, and former wife and dear friend Anita. He will also be missed by his extended family of nieces and nephews and his in-laws.

Mark was born in Halifax but raised in Markham. As a youth, he was very active in the Markham Minor Hockey Association. As an adult, he settled in the Aurora/Newmarket area and worked as a chef at St. Andrew’s Valley Golf Club for over 20 years. He focused on establishing his home, raising his daughter, and being a soccer dad.

He will be remembered for his enthusiasm for golf, reading and computer games, his unique sense of humour and hearty laugh, his readiness to lend a hand or offer advice, his appreciation of debate, his love for his family and reverence for his parents. Most notably, he will be remembered for his deep devotion and dedication to the light of his life - his daughter Avery.

His family will receive friends at the Dixon Garland Funeral Home, 166 Main Street North (Markham Road), Markham on Friday, January 22, 2016 from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. A service will be held at St. Patrick’s, 5633 Hwy 7, Markham on Saturday, January 23rd at 11 a.m. with a reception immediately following in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mark’s memory to the Hospital for Sick Children would be greatly appreciated.

PECKHOVER, Engberta Elisabeth (Vegter) Engberta Elisabeth (“Betty”) Peckhover passed away peacefully on December 25, 2015 at Mackenzie Health Long-Term Care Facility, Richmond Hill, Ontario in her 94th year.

Predeceased by her husband Colin and her sister Aafke (late Dries Hendriks). Dearly missed by her sons Doug (and Anne) and Ron (and Cathy), her grandchildren Elizabeth (and John-David Buchanan), Christine (and Sean Oosman), Stephen, Eric and Bryan, and her greatgrandchildren Malcolm and Beatrice Buchanan, and Mason Oosman.

Fondly remembered by many nephews and nieces in the Netherlands, as well as her long-time, dearest friend Corrie Deinas.
