Love in Action

HIGHEST FUNDRAISING TEAM FOR 2021 On Saturday 27 March the Georgiana Molloy Anglican School Relay for Life Team attended this year’s Relay at the Busselton foreshore organised by GMAS teacher Jacinta Busher. 2021 was a shortened and modified event (due to COVID restrictions) but the team were feeling incredibly lucky and happy to be attending the event, given that last years was cancelled. The Team spent the day walking laps (representing the forward march of Cancer as well as Cancer Research) with the aweinspiring Drew West from Year 8 walking 74 laps for the team! The crew also sold pot plants, beach gear, homemade jams and chutneys, hand-knitted beanies, freshly baked muffins and anything else they could think of to add to the overall donations to the Cancer Council.

for the 2021 Relay for Life

GMAS parent, Mrs Joanna Stephenson, won the ‘Miss Relay’ 2021 competition “strutting her stuff up on the stage and racing throughout Busselton rattling her donation tin” Jacinta said. Jacinta mentioned that the Yellow Submarine ‘Box Car’ was a great photo opportunity for the kids but alas the wheels fell off (literally) when it was raced. ”Valiantly operated by four students and Mrs Forrest (who knobble the Wood N Leg’s Team with a bump worthy of a GWS player) it had to be carried in second last” Jacinta laughed. The crew was exhausted but then totally thrilled when it was announced that GMAS was the highest Fundraising Team for 2021! Presented with a framed certificate up on stage Jacinta said “it was wonderful to know that we had contributed to the best of our abilities under somewhat trialling circumstances”. A huge thank you to all the team members who walked and helped on the day: Drew and Chase West (and Family), Sandie McCombie, Alex Franklin, Ava Marchant, Lacey Heys, Joanna Stephenson, Mrs Forrest, Mrs Ness, Erinlea Forrest, Miss Stefanou, Miss Fink, Miss Uchanski, ex staff member Mrs Mewett and ex-student Ashlynn Forrest. A particular mention must go to Lacey Heys and Ava Marchant both in Year 7 who individually raised between them $584.00. Amazing effort girls, just amazing! If you would like to join the team, please contact Jacinta Busher via: jbr@gmas.wa.edu.au. Plans for next year’s fundraising events are already in motion and your help would be greatfully appreciated. P 3 0 W W W.GM A S .WA . E D U. AU
