2021 STUDENT LEADERS Let us introduce ourselves
At GMAS, leadership is viewed as a way of serving others in the community. Our student leaders require a high degree of individual responsibility in upholding the ideals and expectations of the school, while guiding and mentoring younger students. We are very pleased to introduce to you our Student Leaders for 2021. Congratulations to each of you and we look forward to seeing you grow into your leadership roles! Stay tuned for our next edition when we introduce the rest of our Middle and Junior School Leaders and find out what they have been up to.

Harrison Bowden
Hello, my name is Harrison Bowden and I am the GMAS Head Boy for 2021. Part of my role is to represent students and their interests in the way the school is run, and help make positive changes where we can. I am part of the Service Portfolio this year and am excited to have the opportunity to help GMAS become more involved in the wider community. I want all students to know they are welcome to approach us with their ideas. I’m looking forward to working with our leadership group this year, and am grateful for the opportunity I’ve been given to build on the positive learning environment we have at GMAS.
SENIOR SCHOOL HEAD GIRL
Hi, my name is Emily Hodder and I have been given the opportunity to be the Head girl at GMAS for 2021. I am also privileged to be a part of the Service Portfolio alongside Kira Wood and Harry Bowden. As a portfolio we hope to increase communications between schools regarding service, creating a platform that students in the community can be a part of to help share awareness of services applicable in our city. Service is a great way to contribute to the community, meet new people and increase your personal experience of the world. I look forward to not only improving service in our school and community but having an impact on all the other portfolios my peers have initiated.

JUNIOR SCHOOL HEAD BOY
Hi, my name is Zane Lucev and I have been lucky enough to be given the privilege of being the 2021 Junior School Head Boy. My strengths are simple – they are really all of my great friends! We are very fortunate this year to have an extraordinary Leadership and Year 6 group, that ALL have fantastic attitudes, and who will lead this school to many team and individual successes during the school year, as well as into the future. I am a strong believer that the schools four values can be measured in all our successes and failures in a balanced manner. Our successes can lead us to valuable attitudes and exciting challenges, and our failures are a scope for improvement, which will build resilience and perseverance. Both of these things are needed to become a better person or a better school. I hope to be a great example in relation to these values, a friend to all GMAS school companions, and the wider GMAS community. Our year is going to be a great one, with every day being worthwhile.

I am very grateful to be a part of the GMAS community. I am always willing to listen to any of your ideas or answer any questions so please don’t be shy, come and say hello.

Student Representative Council
Josh Weed
Hi, my name is Josh Weed, and I am very excited to be a part of the senior school leadership team representing the Sustainability Portfolio alongside the role of SRC president. In my role as SRC president I hope I can make some positive changes to our learning community by utilising the ideas that students wish to implement into the school environment. Alongside Macklin O’Reilly as part of the sustainability portfolio I also wish to reduce the overall impact our school has on the environment while also spreading awareness about this issue which will affect all of the students and staff at GMAS throughout their lives.
A warm hello, I am Taya Johnson, Flinders Captain for the leadership team of 2021. I am an enthusiastic Student Council Representative and am a member of the School Spirit and Wellness Portfolio alongside Molly Kiernan. Given this opportunity, I hope to raise awareness and bring a positive light to the GMAS community, both inside and outside our school walls. I aim to encourage students to recognise the powerful potential that they hold, in spreading kindness and fostering our school’s spirit.

Molly Kiernan
Hello, my name is Molly Kiernan and I’m a part of the Student Representative Council and a member of the School Spirit and Wellness Portfolio along with Taya Johnson. This year my goal is to spread awareness on the importance of mental health and also spread kindness and positivity around our community. Overall, my aim, as a leader, is to be an approachable person student’s can come up to and talk to me if they’re struggling or having a hard time. I’m looking forward to an exciting year and an optimistic rest of 2021.
Hi, my name is Macklin O’Reilly and I am the 2021 Bunker House Captain. I also join Joshua Weed as a part of the Sustainability Portfolio. My goals for this portfolio are to increase environmental awareness in the school community and promote a lifestyle which positively affects the physical world that we live in. I wish to inspire all members of the school to live a life that not only reduces damage to our earth but actually has a positive impact on the world we live in.
Isabella Rogers Macklin O’Reilly
Hello, my name is Isabella Rogers, and I am a part of the Student Representative Council for 2021. I am thrilled to be a part of this wonderful leadership team in creating opportunities and positive changes for our GMAS community and our future. This year I am member of the Arts Portfolio and I represent the year 10 cohort. I work alongside Mark Schaap to create as many opportunities as possible for the artists of our school to shine either on stage, in the exhibit or in the cinema. Art is a valued matter to me since it allows our students to self-express, expand their creativity and dwell into the world of beauty. I wish everyone a happy and safe 2021.
Hello, My name is Mark Schaap and I am a member of the 2021 Student Representative Council. I am also a member of the Arts Portfolio. Arts at GMAS has been a huge part of my personal development turning me into the confident person I am today. My goal for this year is to get as many people involved in the arts in some way and allow them to gain both the personal and social benefits that the accepting and loving arts community provides.

Kira Wood
Hi, my name is Kira Wood and I am the Geographe House Captain for 2020. This year I endeavour, along with the leadership team, to bring about positive change to our school and create a pleasant and safe working environment for both staff and students. Together with Harry Bowden and Emily Hodder as a part of the Service Portfolio, we are looking forward to uniting GMAS and presenting more opportunities for service, in order to give back to our wider community. As best said by Gandhi, ‘the best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.’
