How Do You Spell Father?

After Miscarriage

Sarah Williams “Children are indeed a heritage from the LORD, and the fruit of the womb is His reward.”- (Psalm 127:3) But how do you reconcile this declaration to a painful experience like losing a child through miscarriage, childbirth, or at any other time?

Indeed, it is without a doubt, one of the most painful experiences a parent will ever endure. Words will never explain the depth of despair a mother goes through trying to understand the shift that occurs when all hope and expectations suddenly drops off.

During or after a miscarriage, many of us question God, wondering why something this bad should happen to us. Sometimes after the trials, we get to see they were a blessing in disguise which we may never have a full understanding of. “For we know in part…” – 1 Corinthians 13:9.

My experience of miscarriage taught me many lessons; a few I will share with you. The first is that God is good, and He is faithful! He reveals Himself to us through His Word and through the comfort we receive from the Holy Spirit. Even as we grieve from a miscarriage, we can find comfort in God’s promise that He is with us.

I also learned that my hope comes from my confidence in God’s sovereignty, His character, and His promises. Those who hope in Him lack no good thing. Whether we find ourselves battling a miscarriage, or we are trying to encourage a friend in grief, we must understand that:

Our God is a Giver

We see this most clearly at the Cross. “He who did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all, how will He not also with Him graciously give us all things?” (Romans 8:32).

Though God may not always give in the way we hope or expect, He has promised that only goodness and mercy will follow His children all their days.

(Psalm 23:6). The Lord has promised those who trust in Him, never to leave nor forsake them. (Hebrews 13:5). He is always present and sees the heartache that no one else can see, and is able to heal, comfort, strengthen, and give again in His own perfect timing and way.

Nobody can thwart God’s plan

While it might not seem comprehensible in the midst of grief, you should latch onto the truth that He loves you and has a plan.

Grief is a part of the healing process, and through this process, I encourage you to focus your sorrow on God’s

Grief is a part of the healing process, and through this process, I encourage you to focus your sorrow on God’s Word.

Word. “I know that You can do everything and that no purpose of Yours can be withheld from You.” (Job 42:2) There is nothing that can be done to stop God’s plan!

My words of encouragement to anyone who has suffered a miscarriage or any kind of loss is that no matter what you are facing right now, always remember that God is in COMPLETE control and is ultimately in charge.

In the Kingdom of God, nothing is wasted. The Book of Romans 8:28, says: “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose”, which means God works all things for His own glory, which is inexplicably tied to your good. He uses experiences to teach us to trust Him, and to give us the ability to comfort others.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 says, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”

We can gain comfort from the fact that God can use negative situations for our benefit. Though we might suffer, we are suffering for a PURPOSE.

Remember, we are not immune to suffering. Life can change in an instant. Suffering a miscarriage as a believer should remind us that as followers of Jesus things may not always go well every time. It may feel like we are passing through fire which is definitely an uncomfortable and painful experience. But we have been assured that we will not be burned. “When you pass through fire, you will not be burned; the hard trials that come will not hurt you.”-Isaiah 43:2b (GNT) God will not leave nor forsake us. He will always make a way for us to be able to bear the pain.

In conclusion, God is faithful, and we can have the full assurance that whatever trial we are facing now, “This too shall pass.” gw
