ATHENA Honors Professional Excellence, Community Service

Glenwood’s ‘mother of dance,’ Maurine Taufer was honored as the 2019 ATHENA recipient. Instrumental in bringing the first children’s dance program to Colorado Mountain College in the early 1980s and co-founder of Dancers Dancing in 1993, Maurine has impacted hundreds of youth and multiple generations in the community. Her enthusiasm and love for dance and the arts are instilled in her students. Upon the closure of the Art Center, she collaborated with Colorado Mountain College to ensure dance programming would continue in the community.

What's the Story behind it? 100th ANNIVERSARY OF THE GLENWOOD SPRINGS CHAMBER

Since 1994, the Glenwood Springs Chamber Resort Association has participated in the prestigious ATHENA International program, which was developed to support and honor women leaders and those who inspire them to reach their full potential. In 2008, the GSCRA honored the first ATHENA Young Professional. Inspired by the goddess of Greek mythology known for her strength, courage, wisdom and enlightenment– these qualities are embodied in the ATHENA Leadership Model. The award is unique in both scope—local, national and international—and the ATHENA mission upon which it is based. The ATHENA Leadership & ATHENA YP Awards are presented to women or men who are honored for professional excellence, community service, and for actively assisting women in their attainment of professional excellence and leadership skills. glenwoodchamber.com
