CITY OF GAITHERSBURG SUMMER CAMP GUIDE

Registration Begins

City Resident - Wednesday, February 12

Open Registration - Wednesday, February 19

About Our Camps / Sobre nuestros campamentos

Age Appropriate Camps

Each camp is designed for a particular age group and programs are broken down by age, not by grade. Participation in elementary and middle school camps is based on age as of September 1, 2025. Camps are comprised of units based on the number of campers in each age group. Each unit is supervised by a Senior Counselor, who is at least a high school graduate, and a G-Works Intern, who has completed at least tenth grade. All camp sites have a Team Leader and one or two Assistant Team Leaders. These positions are normally filled by teachers and college students.

Meal Program

Campers should bring a lunch and beverage daily. Please limit nut products due to allergies. Breakfast and/or lunches will be provided by Montgomery County Food and Nutrition Services at select camp sites when eligible.

Field Trips

Camp registration covers the cost of all field trips. No additional fees are required. Transportation for all field trips will be provided by the City of Gaithersburg or private school buses and/or vans. The field trip schedule for the 2025 season is not confirmed at this time. Trip schedule will be finalized in late spring.

Air Conditioning

The City requests air conditioning at all sites where available. However, most of the gymnasiums in use by our programs do not have air conditioning.

Extreme Heat Plan Guidelines

Programs will limit outdoor activity and may provide alternative activities when code red and high temperature alerts are issued. Activities will still be held outdoors for short periods of time.

Emergency Cancellations

Visit montgomeryschoolsMD.org for information regarding delays and closures of MCPS facilities. Please check the City’s website at gaithersburgMD.gov for emergency program cancellations in City facilities.

Inclusion Program

Children ages 5–14 with disabilities may be eligible to participate in our Summer Camp programs. An inclusion companion may be assigned to work one-on-one with your child to enhance his/her/ their experience. The objective of this program is to mainstream the child into the overall camp setting. The emphasis is not to give special or unusual attention to children, which tends to set individuals apart, but rather to create an atmosphere of friendship and acceptance. In order to prepare for the potential needs of all of our participants, registration and requests for companions must be made no later than May 20, 2025, by contacting SummerCamps@gaithersburgMD.gov

Financial Assistance

City of Gaithersburg residents may apply for financial assistance for eligible summer programs. See page 17.
