ACTOR, MUSICIAN, SINGER, FEATURED IN DOZENS OF FILMS AND TELEVISION DRAMAS, STEFANO FRESI IS EXPERIENCING A GOLDEN MOMENT IN HIS CAREER. AND NOW HE BRINGS THE QUARTETTO CETRA TO THE THEATRE.

«Portare in scena il Quartetto Cetra è un atto di amore profondo nei loro confronti. Mi hanno insegnato a giocare con la musica, con grande divertimento e rispetto», esordisce Stefano Fresi. Interprete di ruoli drammatici, comici e doppiatore, tra l’altro di Pumbaa nel live action de “Il re leone”, ma in pochi sanno che in realtà nasce come musicista, compositore e cantante. Classe 1974, l’artista romano, celebra la leggendaria formazione musicale della tv italiana - in tournée per i teatri fino ad aprile - con lo spettacolo «Cetra… Una volta reloaded», diretto da Augusto Fornari. Protagonista, insieme alla sorella Emanuela e a Toni Fornari, di un viaggio musicale tra swing e rock and roll. Sul palco il Trio vocale canta le canzoni, imita, recita e ripropone parodie memorabili, scatenandosi in un grande varietà di luci: da Baciami Piccina a Che Centrattacco, dai Ricordi della Sera all’immancabile Nella Vecchia Fattoria.

Proponete uno show di successo, già collaudato negli anni in una versione ampliata e rivista. Quali sono le novità?

«Il live è totalmente rinnovato e rimodernato. Ci sono nuovi arrangiamenti, costumi e smoking bellissimi. Saremo accompagnati anche dal sassofono di mia moglie Cristiana Polegri. In scaletta i brani che abbiamo fatto alla “maniera di”, ricalcando lo stile comicoparodistico dei Cetra con le loro memorabili parodie. Faremo anche l’Otello di Shakespeare con canzoni moderne. Ci divertiremo molto, sorretti dal loro spirito esplosivo».

Qual è l’eredità che il quartetto ha lasciato?

«Hanno rotto gli schemi per primi. Sapevano osare. Sono stati il punto d’incontro perfetto tra spettacolo, teatro e musica. E rappresentato un modello di amore e dedizione totale verso l’arte. Erano strumentisti di talento con un’approfondita conoscenza musicale che non si prendevano troppo sul serio. Avevano uno spirito burlone, appassionati di note e swing si divertivano a fare il verso alle canzoni».

Favete Linguis, è il nome del trio comico-musicale composto con Toni Fornari e sua sorella, Emanuela Fresi, fin dall’inizio della vostra carriera, vi siete ispirati al Quartetto Cetra. Come vi siete formati?

«Nasco come musicista, poi ho iniziato a recitare. A 16 anni ci siamo trasferiti a Marcellina, un paesino vicino Tivoli, che ha un coro polifonico meraviglioso con un repertorio sacro del 500 e canzoni popolari. Con mia sorella Emanuela ci iscriviamo per conoscere qualcuno e incontriamo Toni Fornari. Nasce così il Trio, e la passione per la melodia a più voci ci ha fatto scoprire, ormai 30 anni fa, i Cetra. Un vero colpo al cuore. Sin dai 17 anni ci siamo esibiti in locali e matrimoni».

Ha realizzato musiche anche per gli spettacoli di Gigi Proietti, quale ricordo conserva?

«Il mio primo lavoro come musicista di scena è stato con Proietti. Ho composto io le musiche di Romeo e Giulietta quando ha inaugurato il Globe Theatre. Gigi non dava mai lezioni. Bastava, semplicemente, osservarlo all’opera. Vederlo dirigere, muoversi sul palco, prendere decisioni e lavorare con gli attori era un’accademia di vita. Ho scritto musiche per una novantina di spettacoli, per tantissimi jingle e sigle per la Rai e per uno spot per Giuseppe Tornatore.»

Quanto è importante la musica nella sua vita?

«Ho iniziato a suonare il pianoforte a 5 anni. La musica è il sottofondo costante della mia vita, dalla mattina alla sera. Non ne potrei fare a meno, accompagna ogni momento bello o brutto. E’ pura emozione».

Si è fatto conoscere come attore grazie al ruolo di Secco in “Romanzo criminale”. Il grande successo arriva nella parte del chimico in “Smetto quando voglio” di Sydney Sibilia, che le valse la candidatura al David di Donatello come miglior attore non protagonista. Qual è ora il valore della risata attraverso la commedia?

«La commedia parla della vita, è drammaticamente reale. Deve farti sorridere sui mali del tuo tempo. Sui difetti, non sui pregi. Si può ridere di qualunque cosa, se fatto con gusto.».

Oggi si sente più vicino alla musica o alla recitazione?

«Sono multitasking, faccio più cose e fortunatamente mi piacciono tutte. Sono fortunato a fare quella che è la mia passione. E vivere di questa. E’ un privilegio che mi mette in uno stato di grandissima serenità. Anche se per l’ultimo film ho già perso 30 chili. Mi muovo con il personal trainer e mangio come Gandhi da sei mesi (ride!)».

E’ in sala nel film corale I migliori giorni di Edoardo Leo e Massimiliano Bruno, ed è tornato in tv nei nuovi episodi dei Delitti del BarLume, e dopo?

«Ho appena partecipato al disco di mia moglie sul compositore Henry Mancini, autore di brani come “Moon River” e il tema della Pantera Rosa. A teatro racconterò la sua storia, tra vita, aneddoti e curiosità dei suoi brani, insieme a un ensemble di dieci musicisti, e Cristiana al sassofono».

Innamoratissimo di sua moglie con la quale divide casa e palco, ne parla come Romeo . E’ consapevole di essere uno degli uomini più apprezzati dalle donne?

«Ma ho detto “sì, lo voglio” a una e mi sono fregato per sempre!».

Interpreter of dramatic, comic and voice actor roles, among them Pumbaa in the live action version of “The Lion King”, but few know that he was actually born as a musician, composer and singer. Born in 1974, the Roman artist celebrates the legendary musical formation of Italian TV - on tour in theaters until April - with the show “Cetra... Una Volta Reloaded”, directed by Augusto Fornari. Protagonist, together with his sister Emanuela and Toni Fornari, of a musical journey between swing and rock and roll. On stage the vocal trio sings the songs, imitates, recites and re-proposes memorable parodies, unleashing themselves in a great variety of lights: from Baciami Piccina to Che Centrattacco, from Ricordi della Sera to the unmissable Nella Vecchia Fattoria.

A successful show already proven over the years but now in an expanded and revised version. What’s new?

«The live is totally renewed and modernized. There are new, beautiful arrangements, costumes and tuxedos. We are also accompanied by the saxophone played by my wife Cristiana Polegri. We made the lineup of songs in the “manner of”, tracing the comic-parody style of Cetra with memorable parodies. We also do Shakespeare’s Othello with modern songs. We have a lot of fun, supported by explosive spirit ».

What legacy has the quartet left?

“They broke the mold first. They knew how to dare. They were the perfect meeting point between entertainment, theater and music. They represented a model of love and total dedication to art. They were talented instrumentalists with an in-depth musical knowledge who didn’t take themselves too seriously. They had a playful spirit, were fans of notes and swing and enjoyed making the verse to the songs.

From the beginning of your career, you have been inspired by the Quartetto Cetra. How did you form Favete Linguis, the comic-musical trio composed with Toni Fornari and your sister, Emanuela Fresi?

«I was born as a musician, then I started acting. At the age of 16 we moved to Marcellina, a small village near Tivoli, which had a wonderful polyphonic choir with a sacred repertoire from the 1500s and popular songs. My sister Emanuela and I signed up to meet people and we met Toni Fornari. That is how the Trio was born, and the passion for multi-voiced melody allowed us to discover the Cetra of 30 years ago. It really captured our hearts. We started performing in clubs and weddings at the age of 17 ».

Yuo also created music for Gigi Proietti’s shows. What memories do you have?

«My first job as a stage musician was with Proietti. I composed the music for Romeo and Juliet when he opened the Globe Theater. Gigi never gave lessons. It was simply enough to observe him at work. Watching him direct, move around the stage, make decisions and work with the actors was an academy in itself. I wrote music for about ninety shows, for many jingles and theme songs for Rai and for a commercial for Giuseppe Tornatore.»

How important is music in your life?

«I started playing the piano when I was 5 years old. Music is the constant throughline in my life, from morning to night. I couldn’t live without it. It accompanies every good and bad moment. It’s pure emotion.”

You made yourself known as an actor thanks to the role of Secco in “Romanzo criminale”. Your great success came in the role of the chemist in “Smetto quando voglio” by Sydney Sibilia, which earned you a David di Donatello award nomination for best supporting actor. What is the value of laughter in comedy now?

«Comedy speaks of life. It is dramatically real. It must make you smile about the ills of your time. About flaws, not merits. You can laugh at anything, if done with gusto.».

Do you feel closer to music or acting today?

«I’m multitasking. I do multiple things and fortunately I like them all. I am lucky to do my passion. And live by it. It is a privilege that puts me in a state of great serenity. Although for the last film I lost 30 kilos. I trained with a personal trainer and I ate like Gandhi for six months (laughs!)».

You’re in theaters in the ensemble film I migliori giorni by Edoardo Leo and Massimiliano Bruno, and you’re back on TV in the new episodes of Delitti del BarLume. What’s next?

«I just finished working on my wife’s record dedicated to the composer Henry Mancini, author of songs like “Moon River” and the theme of the Pink Panther. At the theater I tell his story between life, anecdotes and curiosities of his pieces together with an ensemble of ten musicians, and with Cristiana on the saxophone».

In love with your wife with whom you shares your home and stage, you sound like Romeo. Are you aware that you are one of men most appreciated by women? “But, I said ‘yes, I do’ to the one and now I am screwed forever!” www.guardiacostierastore.stegip.it
