HEALTH SERVICES COMMUNITY SERVICES DE SANTÉ COMMUNAUTAIRE

The City of Kingston offers a wide range of community health services that are suitable for medical needs ranging from non-life threatening to long-term care. There are also facilities available should emergency services be needed. Kingston General Hospital, an acute-care teaching hospital that is affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at Queen’s University, offers a 24-hour emergency care department. An Urgent Care Centre that focuses on non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses, can be found at Hotel Dieu Hospital and operates daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Most services are covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP). Wait times can vary at these hospitals depending on the severity of the injury or illness. Both departments have triage nurses on staff who assess the urgency of each patient’s condition upon arrival. Le temps d’attente à ces hôpitaux varie en fonction de la gravité de la blessure ou de la maladie. Du personnel infirmier responsable du triage évalue l’urgence de la condition de chaque personne à son arrivée et s’assure que les cas plus urgents sont gérés en premier. Telehealth Ontario (24-hour, free and confidential access to a Registered Nurse through telephone service) • Location: Speak to a Registered Nurse and seek advice over the phone • Phone: 1-866-797-0000 • Services: Non-life-threatening and non-acute illnesses and injuries For non-emergency illnesses and injuries that cannot wait to be seen by a family doctor, Kingston also offers five walk-in/urgent-care clinics with after-hours services. For mental health and addiction issues, Addiction and Mental Health Services, Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington offers community-based services including a 24-hour crisis line: 613-544-4229. • There are 1.2 doctors per 1,000 residents in Kingston. • New residents seeking a family doctor are advised to use Health Care Connect (https://hcc3.hcc.moh.gov.on.ca) – a service provided by the Province of Ontario. The program refers people without a regular family health care provider to doctors and nurse practitioners who are accepting new patients in the community. A valid OHIP card is required. • Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington Public Health offers regularly scheduled public health programs and services including: Child & Babytalk drop-ins, Breastfeeding Clinics, Community Dental Hygiene Clinics (for children up to 17 years of age), Immunization Clinics and Sexual Health Clinics. Pour les problèmes liés à la santé mentale et aux dépendances, les Services de santé mentale et de toxicomanie, à Kingston, à Frontenac et à Lennox & Addington offrent des services communautaires, notamment une ligne d’écoute téléphonique 24 heures sur 24, 7 jours sur 7 (613-544-4229), un centre de ressources pour les familles, des services d’aiguillage et des groupes de soutien sans inscription préalable. www. amhs-kfla.ca
