Dear Garden Community,
It has been an exciting year, marked by continued growth and meaningful transformation across our campus. We are pleased to share our Annual Report, which provides a review of our organization’s activities during the 24-25 year. It serves as a reminder of what we have accomplished together, the moments we experienced as a community, and the successes our students achieved. This report is also an important way to thank the many supporters who helped make this progress possible
We entered last year with a strong sense of momentum and a continued commitment to strengthening both our programs and physical campus, supported by the investments made through the Centennial Fund for the Future. The optimism and energy that permeated Garden School during the 24-25 school year was truly uplifting.
2024 - 2025 was a year of joyful learning and lasting progress for our school We thank our faculty and staff for their remarkable dedication and continued care. We thank our trustees for their steadfast leadership. We thank our students and families for their trust and partnership. Finally, we thank our alumni for their ongoing engagement and pride. This community thrives because of the vital role every member plays.
Please enjoy our Annual Report and use it as a moment to reflect on the meaningful year we shared. At Garden, we remain deeply grateful for every member of our community who contributed to the 24-25 journey. Through the dedication of our community and a shared belief in our mission, our students continued to flourish throughout the year.
Very best,
Chris Herman

We continue to advance our long-term vision through the Centennial Fund for the Future, which drives strategic investment in our programs and campus. With Phase I now completed, this initiative has already made a visible impact on core learning spaces. As we move into Phase II, we are well-positioned to build on this momentum and further strengthen the student experience.
The 24-25 school year was guided by the theme of Service & Gratitude, encouraging students to reflect on their roles within the Garden community and beyond. Garden expanded student leadership opportunities, deepened advisory connections, and fostered a stronger culture of appreciation and responsibility. Through student-led organizations such as Student Council, Red Cross Club, Model UN, Key Club, and Diversity Club, service became an active expression of commitment to others. This focus on care and gratitude reaffirmed Garden as a community grounded in responsibility and connection.

The Class of 2025 concluded their time at Garden with bright futures ahead and many meaningful memories behind them. Throughout the year, students led performances, earned accolades, and participated in senior traditions that defined their final months on campus. Commencement took place in the Queens Botanical Garden’s Wedding Garden, where graduates celebrated with family and friends. With acceptances to selective colleges such as Princeton, NYU, Sophie-Davis, Boston University, Northeastern, McCauley Honors, and Juilliard, and over $8M in merit scholarships, the Class of 2025 leaves behind a strong record of achievement.
Why is giving to Garden important for you?
Giving to Garden is important to our family because Garden has given so much to us. It’s a place where Camryn can truly be herself and thrive At Garden, she learns and grows in a positive, inclusive environment one that nurtures who she is and who she’s becoming. Garden is helping Camryn become the person she wants to be, and for that, we are deeply grateful
What are some of the ways you see Garden shaping the future of education?
I see Garden shaping the future of education by continuing to prioritize diversity, inclusivity, and creativity. Students at Garden thrive because they are supported by an environment designed for their growth and success. Garden will continue to nurture future leaders individuals with a strong thirst for knowledge who carry forward the core values that Garden has instilled in them.
Why did you choose Garden for Camryn?
I chose Garden for Camryn because it was the first high school where she felt truly excited about learning. From the beginning, she expressed a sense of comfort, joy, and empowerment at Garden and that made the decision clear for us.

Extraordinary Opportunities
Bringing the Arts and STEM to Life
We saw great growth in the Arts and STEM as students brought creativity and innovation to center stage. Performances of The Lion King and Moana Jr. showcased dynamic theatrical, musical, and visual arts opportunities across divisions. Robotics participation also increased as teams expanded and more students engaged in design, coding, and competition preparation. Across both disciplines, students explored new challenges, expressed their talents, and embraced hands-on learning. Students thrived in a culture of inquiry, creativity, and imagination.

Committed to making Garden an exceptional place to work and grow, the 24-25 year focused on strengthening faculty leadership and expanding instructional capacity. This included appointing new department chairs in Math, English, and Science, as well as a new 9/10 Dean to support student life and academic continuity Additional teachers and staff joined across Lower and Upper Division grade levels, reflecting our commitment to program expansion and long-term faculty support This focus on investing in our team members remains a central priority in future planning
Why is giving to Garden important for you?
It is our way of showing gratitude and helping sustain the exceptional programs and faculty that Garden offers We also think it is an investment in the future of our son and every child who walks through its door Garden is a gift to our community
What are some of the ways you see Garden shaping the future of education?
Garden is creating a model for an education that is both meaningful and truly preparatory for a complex world Garden helps kids learn and grow by connecting with each other and focusing on what makes each child special They create a supportive community that helps kids become strong, kind, and smart, all by caring for their feelings, curiosity, and character. It's a great way to prepare them for a complicated world.
Why did you choose Garden for Shenpenn?
When we picked a school for Shenpenn, a good curriculum wasn't our only concern. We wanted a real community where he'd feel seen, valued, and could grow at his own pace. Since he's a bit shy, a supportive place where he wouldn't get lost in the shuffle was key. Garden's small, tightknit environment was perfect We quickly saw that the teachers there could give each student individual attention, building real connections and a sense of belonging, even for the quietest kids.

What three words best describe Garden for you?

Join the Centennial Society today.

Created through the leadership of Trustees Jennifer Durst P ’32 and Jude Avelino ’88, the Centennial Society recognizes those who include Garden School in their estate plans. This initiative expands Garden’s Planned Giving Program and offers alumni, families, and friends a meaningful way to leave a lasting impact.
By naming Garden as a beneficiary through a will, trust, IRA, or other planned gift, you help sustain the transformative education and close-knit community that define Garden.
