LETTER FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL Dear Garden Community, It has been an exciting few years and we have seen remarkable growth and innovation here at Garden School. We are pleased to share our Annual Report, which provides a review of our organization’s activities during the 23-24 year. It serves as a reminder of what we have accomplished together, the experiences we shared, and the great achievements our children enjoyed. This report is also an important way to thank all of the friends and supporters who have helped us along the way. We entered last year excited to celebrate 100 years of excellence in education here at Garden School and with a tenacious appetite for pursuing the remaining goals in our strategic plan. The optimism and enthusiasm that permeated Garden School during the 23 - 24 school year was simply inspiring. At each step of the way, we continued to lay the foundation for the future while reflecting on our 100 year legacy. The Road to 100 Strategic Plan, a co-created community vision for the future of our school, continued to serve as our compass for capital and intellectual investments. 2023-2024 was a year full of joyful learning and progress for our school. We thank our faculty and staff for their remarkable efforts and continued work. We thank our trustees for their steady leadership. We thank our students and families for their trust and communication. Finally, we thank our alumni for their ongoing engagement and support. This community thrives because of the vital role every member plays. Please enjoy our Annual Report and use it as a means to reflect upon the incredible year we shared. Know that at Garden, we reflect regularly on how grateful we are to every community member who was a part of our 23 - 24 journey. It takes hard work and collaboration across the community to ensure students thrive and it is quite clear that nothing can conquer the indomitable spirit of the Griffins. Very best, Chris Herman

SPOTLIGHT ON ACCOMPLISHMENTS, ACTIVITIES & ACHIEVEMENTS Pursuing Garden’s Future The Road to 100 We continue to aggressively pursue the 100 initiatives in our Road to 100 Strategic Plan published in 2021. The collective vision, which includes growth in Academic & Enrichment Programs, Campus & Facilities, Community Engagement, and Financial Sustainability, guides our work through the centennial. We are well ahead of schedule and already thinking about the next strategic plan. Safe, Learning, Thriving Sanctuary in the City As Cecilia ’21 said, “Garden School is a sanctuary of safety in our big bustling city.” Garden grew our student support services, enhanced our wellness programs, and upgraded and doubled the scope of our security equipment. With a careful eye on student well-being and mental health, professional trainings on campus security, the adoption of Responsive Classroom in Lower Division, and a strong Advisory Curriculum in Upper Division, we continue to curate a safe sanctuary for students and staff.

Access & Opportunities Celebrating the Remarkable Class of 2024 The class of 2024 wrapped up their time at Garden with bright futures ahead and many great memories behind them. Students staged productions, won titles, and celebrated milestones and traditions. We honored them with a beautiful, outdoor commencement at Queen’s Botanical Gardens. The class racked up over 75 outstanding acceptances to schools like Cornell, Boston University, Emory, Cooper Union, Smith, Brandeis, Julliard, GW, Wake Forest, Oberlin, Northeastern, and NYU among others and was collectively awarded more than $8M in merit scholarships. 5

DONOR PROFILE THE CARDONA ROMERO FAMILY (CARLOS, MARIA, LIAM AND DANIEL) Why is giving to Garden important for you? It is important to our family to give to Garden School because we are investing in the future of children. Our donations help Garden improve its facilities, develop innovative programs, and provide state of the art technology. We are also contributing to a community that plays a significant role in the lives of children. We want to create a culture of giving in our household and by helping Garden reach its goals, we can set a positive example for our children and emphasize the importance of giving back. What are some of the ways you see Garden shaping the future of education? Garden is an innovative school. Throughout the years, their creativity and vision has led to a wide range of programs that our boys take advantage of today. Garden is always looking for ways to improve the lives of its students and faculty both inside and outside of the classroom. All of these initiatives have allowed Garden to be what it is today, a school that is committed to highly personalized education, offering students a balance of challenge and support. Why did you choose Garden for Liam and Daniel? We chose Garden for our children because of its excellent reputation and positive feedback from other parents in the community. After five years, we are still happy with our decision. Our boys are thriving, they are happy, and they love their school. As parents, we could not ask for more. We continue to choose Garden for our family and are confident we are in good hands.

SPOTLIGHT ON PROGRAMS, TECHNOLOGY & INVESTMENTS Extraordinary Opportunities Bringing the Arts and STEM to Life We saw great growth in the Arts and STEM, and our dream of new arts spaces was realized as a result of the EE Ford Foundation grant and the Fund for the Arts. Seven spaces for the Visual and Performing Arts were unveiled and new staff joined the team to help bring the Arts to life. This included the addition of choral, instrumental, and theatrical programs alongside more advanced visual arts offerings across the school. Great investments in STEM also increased offerings in coding and robotics from grades one through twelve and competitive FLL and FTC robotics teams. Students thrive in a culture of inquiry and creativity. Top of the Independent School Athletic League Griffin Athletics Soar Varsity Girls Volleyball reached ISAL Semifinals. Mia M. ’24 is now playing at Connecticut College. Mia and Lelani ’25 were named All-League and Francois ’24 was named All-League Soccer. MS Volleyball were league champs and ninth grader Chloe ’27 qualified for NYSAIS State Championship Cross Country. Boys Varsity Basketball qualified for ISAL Playoffs. Brandon ’24, Nate ’24 and Francois ’24 were named AllLeague and Chloe ’27 earned All-League in Girls Basketball. Table Tennis team launched and will become a Varsity sport. For Tennis, Daniel ’25 and Sahana ’28 went to ISAL Semifinals. Varsity Boys Volleyball also reached ISAL Semifinals. Chris ’24 and Ali ’25 were named All-League and Chloe ’27 finished 3rd in the Girls 3000m and 5th in shot put in the ISAL Track & Field Championships.

Eye on Faculty and Staff Investing in our Team With an eye on making Garden an even more desirable workplace, significant attention again was given to salaries, benefits, and growing the team. This included investments in the Retirement Fund with new fund options, a new fund manager, and increased contributions especially for those who have been with Garden for 15 years or more. It was our first year with new Chairs for STEM, Instructional Technology, and the Arts, along with new posts in World Languages, Admissions, Facilities, the Arts, and Humanities. This focus on our team members will continue to be a major factor in upcoming budgets. 7

DONOR PROFILE THE LIRIANO KHAN FAMILY (AHMED, MONICA, ADRIANA, SEBASTIAN and CARLOS Why is giving to Garden important for you? Giving to Garden School is important to our family because we believe in the transformative power of a good education to open doors that might otherwise remain closed. Our family has been fortunate to benefit from these opportunities, and we believe in giving back so others can have the same. Supporting Garden allows us to contribute to a cause we deeply believe in, while also maintaining a personal connection. Garden School has nurtured our son, Sebastian, since 6th grade, providing a safe space for him to grow, explore, and discover who he is. As a vital part of our Jackson Heights neighborhood and community, we want to help the school continue enriching the lives of future students and families. By giving back, we ensure that our unique and close-knit community continues to thrive, offering opportunities for both academic and personal growth for years to come.

What are some of the ways you see Garden shaping the future of education? We see Garden School shaping the future of education by combining its small class sizes with a broad range of academic and extracurricular options, offering students a well-rounded and personalized learning experience. The school reflects the diversity of the Jackson Heights neighborhood, fostering an inclusive environment where students from various backgrounds learn and grow together. Its focus on giving back to the community through service instills a sense of responsibility and compassion in its students. Garden’s dedicated and passionate staff helps to create an environment where students are supported both academically and personally, preparing them to thrive in a diverse, interconnected world.

Why have you chosen to remain at Garden for so many years? We initially chose Garden for Sebastian because its small class sizes would provide him the personalized attention and strong sense of community he needed to thrive during a key time in his life. The school’s strong academics and impressive college advising program were also major factors in our decision. Garden has far exceeded our expectations, becoming a second home for Sebastian and our family. The caring staff, emphasis on character development, and commitment to community service reflect our family’s values and have helped Sebastian grow into a thoughtful young man, ready to meet the challenges that await him in college.
