Plaza ‘19
Project: Commemoration & Public Space – Urban Plaza
Council Ring
By commemorating the people in Los Angeles during Corona Virus 2019, Plaza ‘19 is a place to appreciate coming together. Los Angeles suffered 35,720+ deaths due to this respiratory illness, Corona Virus is part of modern day and has shaped global culture forever. Plaza ‘19 will remember these citizens of Los Angeles that were directly affected by COVID’19. Frontline workers, high risk individuals, minorities, and the elderly were brought face to face with challenging lifestyle changes in 2020. In the year 2020, quarantine became a way a life, social interaction became limited and being outside was the source of social connection. Living through coronavirus was scary but peace was formed when the outdoors became a place of safety and tranquility.
Plaza ‘19 evokes revolutionary pride as the city of LA continues to survive through this global pandemic. Surviving through the pandemic means revolting against separation of loved ones and the embracing coming together in this public space.
Jens Jensen’s council ring concept represents harmony within nature, the council ring serves as a meeting area for conversation, dance, storytelling, poetry, etc. The circular geometry’s intention is to eliminate hierarchy, overall, the concept is evocative to King Arthurs Knights of the Roundtable.

Organic functional geometries that support the relationship of space. By having dynamic activities implemented in space, the stimulation within the site will have a positive impact. Different experiences of activity in a zone will encourage interest and development of increased activity.
Materiality
Alternation of textured concrete. Attention can be drawn by having a variety of textural concrete. The purpose of having different textures implemented in graphic concrete will intrigue viewers to understand the symbolism of Plaza ’19. The graphic concrete within the design will have a variety of textures that will story tell that the Plaza ‘19 is a revolutionary celebration.
The design consists of linear contemporary concrete seating that functions and centers throughout the geometry of the site. The imagery within the graphic concrete alternates with texturized grooves and vibrant silhouettes of wildlife leading to an inviting council ring that encourages new conversations amongst others.

Project: Conceptual Planting Plan Inventory
English Country Garden
Description--
Explain how the conceptual planting design addresses the design priorities identified in a schematic plan. Introduce how plant selection can be functional. Determine how conceptual planting design evokes the design style you were assigned.
Site Boundary
By having an English country garden planting pallet, the transition between the ground cover switches “soft” to “rough”, by having a variety of ground cover the foliage within design creates a separation of confl icting experiences on site. When thinking about key qualities of an English country garden, density of planting masses is intentional and evokes an encapsulating experience.

Analysis
This encapsulation of vegetation includes shrubs that can also be functional, such as the evergreen planting adjacent to Dennison Avenue to shield the transition of the loudness from traffi c and creating a calm buffer as well as a barrier that immerses the viewer and guides them through the space. By including Pennsylvania sedge and Breck’s Pachysandra as ground covers, the contrast of dark dense greens guides the composition of plantings for the viewer, this allows for screening away any unattractive voids on the ground. Some ornamental plants that serve an aesthetic and fragrant function are fl owering plants
like Black- eyed Susan, Hydrangeas macrophylla
Color Fantasy, Rosa Bishop’s Castle (English Rose) and Boxwood. Seasonally, these plants thrive in the spring, summer, and early fall seasons. Conceptually these plantings evoke the English country garden style by having an over-the-top personality and massing of beds, these qualities include charming stone pathways and botanical controlled chaos. An organizational system that this style employs is the “more the merrier”, by creating this design on the project site creates a secluded yet exciting element that can impact KSU Gardens positvley.

Konza Prairie Project: Short Film About Design
Description--
A short film that is a statement on design, a commercial for a design, on a design topic of choice, a design scene/play/movie, a design music video, related to a design thesis, or an approved proposal. The concept, content, and style behind the film is open-ended if it is related to design.
Looking out, Panoramic views that make me small. Like I’m the only one on earth.
It’s quiet,
I can hear the blades of grass vibrate.
The cold wind burns my cheeks.
I love the seasons of the Midwest.
