Site Boundary

By having an English country garden planting pallet, the transition between the ground cover switches “soft” to “rough”, by having a variety of ground cover the foliage within design creates a separation of confl icting experiences on site. When thinking about key qualities of an English country garden, density of planting masses is intentional and evokes an encapsulating experience.

This encapsulation of vegetation includes shrubs that can also be functional, such as the evergreen planting adjacent to Dennison Avenue to shield the transition of the loudness from traffi c and creating a calm buffer as well as a barrier that immerses the viewer and guides them through the space. By including Pennsylvania sedge and Breck’s Pachysandra as ground covers, the contrast of dark dense greens guides the composition of plantings for the viewer, this allows for screening away any unattractive voids on the ground. Some ornamental plants that serve an aesthetic and fragrant function are fl owering plants like Black- eyed Susan, Hydrangeas macrophylla

Color Fantasy, Rosa Bishop’s Castle (English Rose) and Boxwood. Seasonally, these plants thrive in the spring, summer, and early fall seasons. Conceptually these plantings evoke the English country garden style by having an over-the-top personality and massing of beds, these qualities include charming stone pathways and botanical controlled chaos. An organizational system that this style employs is the “more the merrier”, by creating this design on the project site creates a secluded yet exciting element that can impact KSU Gardens positvley.

Looking out, Panoramic views that make me small. Like I’m the only one on earth.

It’s quiet,

I can hear the blades of grass vibrate.

The cold wind burns my cheeks.

I love the seasons of the Midwest.
