So what is the “New Reality”? What is the new concept of “home”? How are joy and sadness manifested in this context? Where are moments of leisure, study, work or meditation? What games arise? How are fears reflected? Where is hope found? The questions are many and infinite. Art often questions, but also helps us to find some answers. Flashes of the New Reality reveals, in an uncompromising, honest and genuine way, a set of looks at the current pandemic context and, mainly, at the “new realities” that confront us every day. We thank all those who shared a part of themselves in this open call.

May 2020. I'm 75 and live on my own with 2 cats and 3 autoimmune disorders. What kept me sane during lockdown, were my creative projects and my garden. It sustained my body and my mind, and inspired my photography and writing. Christmas 2020. I should have seen my 3 children and their families over the 5 days we thought we would have. We didn't, so I put the covid-created family tree in the centre of the family-less feast-less dining table. Anne-Marie Glasheen – photographic artist, poet and literary translator.

#2 Confinado o corpo, a inspiração manifesta-se com mais intensidade em textos e versos que são a voz da minha alma.

Masked: Štěpánka As many photographers interested in portraits, the mask became a topic of fascination for me. I started to take photos of people wearing them. However, something did not feel well. A search for different possibilities of capturing this aspect of the new normal started. This is one of the resulting ideas: to physically intervene negatives by drawing masks on already existing portraits. The concept behind this intrusive - and irreversible - action is connected to the fact that the wear of a mask became a forced measure in the amid of the state of emergency we are going through, and, even in the best of the scenarios, we all who have gone through this crisis are facing long term - maybe even permanent - physical, psychological, or both consequences.
Islanders: my grandma’s Zoom funeral service Thanks to the lockdown measures taken by many governments around the world in order to stop the spread of the Covid-1 9, our social lives have been limited. Even the most unexpected activities moved to the realm of the digital. I started to capture those moments as a curiosity or memory. But this reached a whole new dimension when I had to attend the funeral service of my grandmother through a Zoom meeting. Several members of my family living all around the world gathered to grieve together. Everybody from their particular island, but somehow connected. I have portrayed different situations - some of them mundane as classes or working meetings, but some others more intimate: my mother’s birthday, Christmas and new year eve these screenshots are organized in diptychs or triptychs.

My name is Olga Rerbo. I am 28 years old, was born in Russia, had been living in Belarus for most of my life, and eventually moved to Israel. I have always been passionate about the photography art. The last six years I delving deeper in this art. I made this set of self portraits during the introduction of the first lockdown in the UK. It depicts gradual acceptance of inevitable changes in everyday life due to the uncertainty shrouded the new reality.

Here are the two images that reflect or not the somewhat disturbing life of a couple. The atmosphere is rough at times, and the choice of sleeping space can be funny, but it is an extreme form. we are not prepared for life on the farm with someone else. second photo: Living in front of the market, you can observe people queuing. the protective glass is just an illusion of transformed life, everything we see is out of the context of freedom. We are waiting, inside, outside, in our projects, decisions, for how long?
