Our mission is to be an advocate for these special kids and provide them and their families with the educational, emotional, and recreational support needed as a result of the long hours of chemotherapy, illness, and isolation.
Friends of Kids with Cancer

A Letter from Newly Appointed Board President, Karen Korn
This month marks two powerful milestones in my life: my daughter’s 23rd anniversary since her diagnosis with cancer, and my 21st year serving on the board of Friends of Kids with Cancer. I am truly honored and humbled to now serve as president of the board—an opportunity that allows me to give back to an organization that has meant so much to my family and to so many families like ours.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of watching this organization grow—both in the number of families we serve and in the depth of the programs we provide. I am continually impressed by the way we expand our offerings in response to emerging needs. Whether it’s providing emotional support for a family navigating a world unknown to them, offering recreational programs that give children the chance to experience joy even during the hardest of times, or providing educational support to help children stay on track with their schooling—Friends of Kids with Cancer is always ready to adapt, innovate, and step in when it matters most.

One of the things that has made me most proud to be part of this organization is the incredible dedication of our volunteers and community. You are the backbone of everything we do. Without your time, resources, and commitment, none of our programs would be possible. You make the impossible possible, turning the struggles of cancer treatment into moments of hope and resilience. You help transform the lives of children and families when they need it most.

With deepest gratitude,

Karen Korn Board President, Friends of Kids with Cancer
As I reflect on the past 21 years, I am filled with gratitude— not just for the progress we’ve made, but for the strength of the community we’ve built. Together, we have changed the lives of so many children and families, and together, we will continue to make a lasting impact. As we say, “Once a Friend, always a Friend.” Years later, my daughter is thriving and my family still feels at home with Friends of Kids with Cancer.
Thank you for being a part of this journey with me. It’s an honor to serve as your president, and I look forward to the next chapter of growth, impact, and hope.

“I absolutely love this organization and what they have done for our family. Not just tangible things like gift cards, parties, toys, etc., but what it has done for our hearts.
To be able to give back and know firsthand what an impact it makes on patients and their families is priceless. I am honored to be a part of this amazing team, and I am so excited to be able to make a difference in the daily lives of kids who have cancer.”

The 30th Annual Fashion Show & Boutique was held on Thursday, November 21st and brought in a record-breaking total of over $390,000 to support Friends of Kids with Cancer’s programming. Patients were identified by our hospital partners and selected to become models in the show. These patients and their families were treated to a special day of extravagant gifts, dress-up, make up, hair styling, and more at The Ritz-Carlton.
Each child walked the runway during both the luncheon and dinner shows, feeling confident and proud in their styled clothes, hair, and makeup, thanks to our kind partners and donors.
The kids were showered with personalized gifts, one-night stay in a luxury room at The Ritz-Carlton, and even time on the microphone as our emcee, Susanne Rosenberg, gave way for joke-telling during the shows. In addition, Dillard’s—Galleria
donated each model’s favorite outfit, so they can continue feeling sharp even after the show.
In the audience were generous supporters, who clapped and cheered for our models and celebrity adult models. Our special guest models included doctors, social workers, nurses, community supporters, St. Louis Cardinals alum as well as a St. Louis CITY SC player.
This great amount was raised from both shows through ticket sales, raffles, live and silent auctions, and other donations at the event thanks to our guests and virtual participants. The majority of this fundraising is courtesy of those who raised their paddles to donate during the Fund-a-Need portion of the show, facilitated by Adam Jokisch of Adam’s Auctions.
Plus, our amazing emcees, Kathy Ferrara, Susanne Rosenberg, Claire Kellett, and Randy Karraker,
introduced all our special speakers, performers, and each model down the runway.
Guests enjoyed boutique shopping from a variety of local vendors and most did not leave empty-handed. A fun photo booth was also offered by Hart of the City Photo Booth.
Many supporters purchased VIP Rooftop Solarium tickets, which featured live music by Charles and Nikki Glenn, and photo booth by Glow Booth.
There are so many people involved in making this event a success and we can’t thank them enough.

Tillman Elementary Raises Over $4K in Honor of Adri, Lead by Meghan Taylor
During Tillman Elementary’s Spirit Week in November, teacher Meghan Taylor inspired students, teachers, and parents with stories about her late father, Tom “The Tutor” Mulvihill. She then introduced Adri, a cancer survivor who received support from Friends of Kids with Cancer.
Adri read carefully prepared and rehearsed note cards to the auditorium about his experience with cancer and how Friends helped make it easier.
“It was inspiring and thoughtful and I am so proud of him! There were parents in attendance and lots of tears!”
— Meghan Taylor, teacher
The school was challenged to raise $1000 by the end of Spirit Week. Adri’s dad made a donation and arranged for his employer to get involved with a donation match.
The school surpassed their goal to raise over $4,000 through online and check donations along with the matched donation from Mastercard.
After the fundraiser, Adri addressed his peers and parents again in the gym, thanking everyone for their support before handing a giant check to representatives from Friends of Kids with Cancer.

Assumption School Honors Ryan with Hats On
Day, Raising over $2K
“He felt so much support and love from everyone in the school, even the kids and teachers he didn’t really know.
He was so happy to be able to raise money for Friends and provide some fun and memories to other kids who are fighting cancer.”
— Christine, Ryan’s Mom
In honor of Ryan, a sixth-grader and five-year cancer survivor, Assumption School held a Hats On Day fundraiser and t-shirt giveaway.
Spearheaded by Mrs. Durbin, 5th-grade homeroom and Language Arts teacher, the school put up posters and encouraged students and teachers to donate funds to
Stephanie Drury, student mom, created special shirts and distributed them to teachers and staff to honor Ryan.

1st Annual LillyPalooza surpasses $15K goal, raises over $18,000

This summer, Team Sirius, a group of active friends and family dedicated to supporting local nonprofits, hosted a huge fundraiser in honor of Lilly Ohlsen with a bike ride on the Monarch Levy Trail in Chesterfield Valley and post-ride party at 4-Hands Brewery.
The event included raffles, toy donations, and selling LillyPalooza merchandise, as well as some fun playing cornhole and creating a collective art piece which now hangs in the Friends office.
Lilly gave a short speech about her experience and rallied support for Friends.
With a goal of raising $15,000, LillyPalooza surpassed the mark by collecting over $18,000 for Friends of Kids with Cancer.
“Fundraising isn’t just about giving back; it’s about coming together to make a difference. With every mile we ride and every event we host, we’re supporting causes that mean the world to us. And as much as these funds help others, they’ve also brought us closer as a team, reminding us of the strength in unity and shared purpose. There’s something incredible about being part of a group dedicated to helping others—every contribution, big or small, adds up to lasting change.”
— Team Sirius

Spotlight On Megan Thornton

“Jessica benefited greatly from all that FOKWC does. After she passed, we started volunteering in her honor.”
If you’ve been involved with the Fashion Show & Boutique fundraiser the last few years, chances are you’ve seen Megan Thornton and her spouse, Brian, volunteering.
Megan brings a vibrant personality and energy to all her volunteerism, which is fueled by her desire to make a difference.
When she was in high school, Megan’s friend, Jessica, benefited from Friends of Kids with Cancer’s support. This has inspired Megan to volunteer with the organization for over 10 years.

Megan has volunteered in support of many of Friends’ events like Trivia Night, Art from the Heart, Fashion Show & Boutique, and Young Friends events like Voodoo in the Lou.
“Fashion Show is by far my favorite event. I love seeing all the details come together after months of planning to make this incredible experience for the kids while raising necessary funds. Plus, the look on their faces make it all worth it,” she says.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
Winter Wonderland at the Hilton Frontenac
During a busy December season with medical appointments and chilly weather, families set their worries aside for a few hours to enjoy the magical and festive Winter Wonderland patient family party.
This year, the annual event was located inside Hilton–Frontenac in a large and relaxed space where about 750 kids and adults felt excited among the multitude of activities offered.
A delicious kid-friendly lunch buffet was enjoyed, and the hot cocoa bar shined with whipped cream, peppermints, sprinkles, and marshmallows.
Guests were adorned with twinkling necklaces as they traversed the room to play activities like Snowball Toss, Fill Santa’s Sleigh, cookie painting, balloon art,
the prize tree, letters to Santa, the inflatable snow globe, and decorating picture frames.
The star of the show, Santa himself, talked to our special guests and posed for pictures against beautiful balloon decorations and backdrop. Photos with Santa were printed as keepsakes for families.
New friends were made and close family bonds celebrated during this bright and cheerful event in support of children undergoing cancer treatment, survivors, and bereaved families alike.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
Lilly Makes Up for Lost Time
with Joy and Bravery

GUEST WRITER
Amber Willis, Programs Facilitator
“I am so nervous. But I know this will be so good for me. So, I’m going to be as brave as I can be.”
These words, spoken by 12-yearold Lilly before we went live on television together, have echoed in my mind ever since. As Program Facilitator at Friends of Kids with Cancer, I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many inspiring children and Lilly is exactly that. Her spirit radiated outward in a way that’s hard to put into words.
Lilly is what I would call a “yes girl”—someone who embraces every new opportunity with a “heck yes!” Whether it’s crafting, cooking, or even going live on television to promote our annual Fashion Show
& Boutique event, she approaches each challenge with careful consideration and courage. That day at the TV station, watching her work through her nerves and shine on camera, I found myself drawing strength from her determination. I wasn’t about to let my own nerves get in the way when she was choosing to be so brave! We made a pretty darn good team that day.
“I am so nervous. But I know this will be so good for me. So, I’m going to be as brave as I can be.”
When illness prevented Lilly from participating at the Fashion Show she’d helped promote— and the hotel stay she’d been excitedly anticipating—our Programs team worked with our
hospital partners to create a special alternative. Lilly’s family received a one-night stay in a fancy hotel suite filled with the surprise gifts that she was supposed to receive at the Fashion Show: one night of quiet luxury and relaxation together with her family.
The next morning, Lilly became one of the first guests at our Winter Wonderland party, where she was first in line to meet Santa. Her smile in that moment perfectly captured why I love my role at Friends of Kids with Cancer—because sometimes “helping kids with cancer be kids” simply means creating spaces where joy and bravery can coexist and shine together, just like Lilly does every day. Lilly can serve as an inspiration to all of us to be as brave as we can be when given an opportunity to say yes.

ADOPT A FAMILY HOLIDAY GIFT DRIVE
patient families received holiday gifts through Adopt-A-Family, totaling 173 wish lists fulfilled.
“We truly don’t think we would have had much of a Christmas without all of you. The gifts were a huge part of it, but the support we received in our [support] group was what helped us get through the holiday mentally and emotionally. We know that life will forever be different, but we are deeply thankful for the role you’ve played in helping us through this year.
Friends of Kids with Cancer has been there from the beginning. It’s not possible to thank you for everything that you gave to us. You have been so generous and supportive. We don’t know how we could have gotten through this without you.”
— Erik and Olivia, patient parents
