Team building continues to play a vital role in enhancing workplace collaboration, improving morale, and fostering a positive organisational culture, particularly across hybrid environments. For HR professionals, sourcing the right team building suppliers is critical to achieving these outcomes, while ensuring a strong return on investment (ROI). Here’s how HR Summit delegates are approaching this process strategically…
1. Align Activities with Organisational Goals
The first step in choosing a team building supplier is to define your organisation’s objectives. Are you aiming to improve communication within a hybrid workforce, develop leadership skills, or simply boost employee engagement? The chosen activities should align with these goals.
For example, if your focus is on fostering collaboration in a remote-first environment, suppliers offering virtual team-building experiences, such as online escape rooms or gamified problem-solving activities, may be ideal. On the other hand, for teams returning to the office, experiential inperson activities like outdoor challenges or leadership retreats can be more impactful.
2. Look for Customisation and Flexibility
The best team building suppliers offer tailored solutions rather than one-size-fits-all packages. Look for partners who take the time to understand your company’s culture, values, and specific challenges. Customised activities ensure relevance, helping teams connect more
meaningfully and apply lessons to their daily work.
Flexibility is also crucial. A supplier who can adapt activities to different team sizes, work models (remote, hybrid, or in-person), and budget constraints will be a valuable partner.
3. Prioritise Expertise and Credibility
Choose suppliers with a proven track record of success. Ask for client testimonials, case studies, and references to evaluate their expertise in delivering effective team building programs. Suppliers who work across multiple industries and can demonstrate experience with organisations similar to yours will likely understand your unique needs.
Look for certifications or partnerships with reputable organisations as a sign of their credibility and professionalism.
4. Consider Sustainability and Ethics
Sustainability and social responsibility are key considerations for many organisations. Choose suppliers who offer eco-friendly activities or contribute to local
communities. For instance, team-building programs centred around volunteering or environmental conservation can align with corporate social responsibility (CSR) goals while fostering teamwork.
5. Evaluate Costs and ROI
Team building doesn’t have to break the bank, but it should deliver measurable benefits. Work with suppliers to establish metrics for success, such as improved employee satisfaction scores or team performance. Transparent pricing and clear value propositions will help you choose a supplier that maximises your ROI.
Conclusion
Selecting the right team building supplier requires careful planning and alignment with your organisation’s goals. By prioritising customisation, expertise, and sustainability, HR professionals can ensure impactful activities that enhance collaboration and morale, ultimately driving business success in 2025 and beyond.

This seminar will guide HR leaders through a structured, three-step approach to identifying why managers are underperforming and how to turn them into top performers.
• The role of behaviour in under-performance and high-performance
• The three questions you should be asking about any underperforming manager
• The three most impactful strategies for increasing performance contribution and creating high performing managers

All organisations go through different phases on their growth journey. This session will explore the importance of aligning your Reward & Benefits Strategy and the role of digital throughout this lifecycle. Balancing empathy and economics has always presented a conundrum for employers. Employee expectations keep evolving, while the need for personalisation reflective of a diverse workforce continues to present a costly challenge to any business.
• The crucial role played by both benefits design and the right digital access and communication tools for engaging your workforce.
• The importance of a Benefits and Digital Engagement Strategy aligned to your organisational lifecycle stage
• How you can better harness innovation in your offering and digital communication, without breaking the bank.
• How benefits technology can help drive operational efficiencies, reduce risk and deliver cost savings.
• Practical advice you can implement at each stage - whether you’re setting out your first real benefits offering, or are a mature company looking to provide a market-leading benefits proposition for your employees.
• What really makes a benefits strategy competitive at each stage
James Patterson has worked in the benefits industry for 12 years, with experience in technology, operations and global implementation. Today he plays a strategic role for Mercer Marsh Benefits, focused on digital solutions to help clients realise their reward and benefit strategies.
James’ background originates in the start-up environment, with a passion for technology empowering teams to do more with less. With a proven track record of leading teams to deliver profitable results, his strengths centre on providing innovative solutions for complex problems.
Claire Sharman has over 25 years of experience in the employee benefits sector, working across a variety of roles including in underwriting, product development, sales, consultancy, growth and strategic benefit planning. Dr Amy Pressland will share the key results from the Benenden Health 2024 Gender Health Gap report. This presentation will provide examples of best practice in the world of work (and beyond) and suggestions for employers to support female employees.

Generation Z, aged 12-27, makes up a growing portion of the workforce, with 4.3 million employed in the UK as of 2022. While they bring fresh perspectives and digital skills, they also present unique challenges for employers. Research shows 74% of managers find Gen Z harder to work with than other generations. Understanding why and how to support them effectively is crucial.
Gen Z is the first generation to grow up entirely in the digital age, making them highly adaptable to technology. However, significant global events, like COVID-19 and the climate crisis have left many feeling fatigued, with 45% rarely optimistic. Their self-worth is often tied to work performance. A 2023 survey revealed 45% of Gen Z workers believe their value is directly linked to their work success. This highlights the need for supportive environments with clear goals, regular feedback, and growth opportunities to maintain confidence and avoid burnout.
Gen Z faces higher mental health challenges than previous generations, with 1 in 3 reporting stress, anxiety, or depression. While many feel their workplaces support their mental health, 34% do not. To support Gen Z, businesses should focus on:
Mental Health Initiatives: Offer counselling, stress management programs, or mental health days to reduce burnout.
Flexible Work Environments:
“

Providing hybrid or remote work options promotes worklife balance and autonomy. Development Opportunities: Gen Z expects career growth. Providing training and clear advancement paths fosters engagement.
Attracting Gen Z talent requires aligning with their values:
• Purpose-Driven Work: They seek employers who prioritise sustainability and meaningful work.
• Supportive Cultures: Gen Z thrives in inclusive, collaborative environments.
• Recognition and Rewards: Acknowledging achievements through praise or rewards strengthens loyalty.

Aslan is a highly engaging and practical financial wellbeing solution that supercharges employees’ pay. Employee pay is the largest expense for most businesses. After the Autumn Budget, putting an extra £100 into an employee’s bank account will cost the business £200 or more. Cost of living crisis means that 30% of the UK population are going into overdrafts every month, while the average household now owes over £2,500 on credit cards, paying high interest. Aslan exists to make employees’ pay go further and also helps employees stop relying on credit. Many employee benefits suffer from low engagement. However Aslan is used daily, as we’re mobile-first and delivered via Apple/Google Pay. Aslan makes financial wellbeing as accessible as possible. Rewards, control over pay, and financial education are all available right at employees’ fingertips.
