Style Issue

Welcome to the Style Issue brought to you by our Director of Brand Management.

Hi, my name is Marco Hernandez, and I’m a graphic designer currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Visual Communications Design at Indiana University, Indianapolis. I have a passion for branding, print design, and illustration, and I’ve worked on posters, packaging, logos, and social media content for local businesses and freelance clients.

Outside of design, I enjoy cars, movies, drawing (especially charcoal and still lifes), and trying new restaurants from around the world. When I’m not working or exploring new foods, I love spending time outdoors or with friends and family.

Dear Readers,

There’s something special about watching a city come alive through creativity. Fort Wayne’s local businesses, food, and events are full of that energy—and design plays a big role in it. From how a restaurant plates its food to how a boutique styles its windows, design is everywhere.

In this issue, we highlight standout businesses like Colvin Kitchen and Bath, Wayne Home Design, and Katali Boutique— each one showing how great design brings personality and intention to our spaces.

I'm excited to share this with you and hope you find inspiration on every page.

Dents Are So Last Season

Let’s face it, no one dreams of visiting a collision repair shop. But if your car has had a little “oops,” Glenbrook Collision is the place to bring it back to life—and maybe even better than before. After all, a flawless car never goes out of style… but that dent in the fender from last week? Yeah, that can go.

Serving Fort Wayne since 1979, Glenbrook Collision combines over 100 years of experience with cutting-edge technology and a serious passion for perfection. And don’t let their years in business fool you—this team is anything but old school. With Mercedes-Benz certification, I-CAR Gold Class status, and enough high-tech tools to make NASA jealous, they’re redefining what it means to look good on the road.

We’re talking digital paint-matching cameras, an automatic paint mixing machine that’s smarter than most of us before coffee, and even a plastic welder— because yes, bumpers have feelings too. Add in the Car-O-Liner EVO frame rack, and your vehicle will be straighter than your uncle’s fishing stories.

But Glenbrook doesn’t just focus on the pretty stuff. They also handle calibrations for advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS), the behind-the-scenes tech that keeps your car from hugging guardrails or brake-checking squirrels. It’s a big deal and Glenbrook has it covered.

They’re also certified by Chrysler and Hyundai, working toward Ford certification, and partner directly with top insurance companies to make your claim process smooth. They work with all insurance companies, too—yes, even the one with the talking lizard.

While they don’t offer loaner cars (sorry, no free convertibles for the weekend), Glenbrook will make sure you’re not left stranded—unlike your high school dance date.

And let’s not forget the paint—Glenbrook uses PPG Envirobase, a waterborne, environmentally friendly product that gives your car a flawless finish without harming Mother Nature. So, your car looks good, and you feel even better.

In a world where image matters, don’t let your car’s style suffer. Dents are temporary—bad paint jobs are forever. At Glenbrook Collision, precision meets personality. They don’t just repair, they restore confidence. Your car will leave looking like it just swiped right on perfection.

Where the Soul Meets the Canvas

Nestled in the heart of Fort Wayne’s historic West Central Neighborhood, a vibrant artistic legacy continues to evolve in the sunlit walls of Jake Art Studio.

Local painter Rebecca Johnson is no stranger to creativity—art runs deep in her roots. Her father, the late Robert Johnson, was a well-known artist in Fort Wayne and still has sculptures and paintings around the city. He’s the person who introduced Rebecca to the art world as she was growing up. They owned Canterbury Art Centre together where they had an art gallery and taught art classes. Rebecca then started J. Beck Fine Art on the Landing. Nawa Restaurant is now in that location.

Rebecca’s brother, Timothy Johnson, is a well-known artist in Fort Wayne. He owns the B. Building Gallery on Berry Street a few doors down from Jake Art Studio. It was part of the well-loved Fort Wayne Art School in West Central. Many of the students still reside in West Central.

Rebecca’s significant other of 22 years, Jake Patten, is also a well-known artist in Fort Wayne. They are partners in Jake Art Studio. Rebecca told us that they have shows five to six times a year, their Christmas Show being the largest. They also teach art classes in the winter.

“I have always dabbled in art but was working full time until the pandemic. I finally had the time to focus on painting and fell in love. I haven’t stopped since. I’m happy to say that I am now a full-time artist and love my life.

My influences are usually nature... flowers, trees, landscapes and seascapes. Nature’s rich colors are what drive my palette. I definitely experiment in styles. That’s half the fun. I may have a very linear Mid Century Modern painting on one easel and a total abstract on another.

Jake and I have created a nice studio space to work in and a nice life together. We’re lucky people!

Fort Wayne supports their local artists, and we truly appreciate that as well.”

Streets Paved with Good Intentions

Welcome to Fort Wayne—Where the Potholes Have Their Own Zip Code

Josh didn’t ask for chaos that Tuesday morning. He just wanted a cup of coffee and a chance to feel like his life wasn’t spiraling faster than his fantasy football team last fall. But as fate—and Fort Wayne’s crumbling infrastructure—would have it, his tire had other plans.

Boom.

One moment, he was cruising down the street humming along to 90s alt-rock. Next, his car lurched violently to the right. He knew that sound. That feeling. Tire: gone. Rim: toast. Sanity: on life support.

He limped the car to the curb and climbed out to assess the damage. There it was—a pothole so deep it probably had its own water table. One sad little cone sat bent in half against the curb, looking more like a deflated party hat than any real warning. Josh stared at it. Useless. Much like the city’s budget for road repair.

A cop rolled up not long after. Nice guy. Sympathetic. “I couldn’t even find the thing until I hit it myself,” he admitted, rubbing the back of his neck. That didn’t make Josh feel better. If anything, it made him more certain: this wasn’t on him. But now what? A blown tire. A gouged rim. And possibly suspension damage. Filing a claim with the city felt like throwing a paper airplane into a tornado. Could he get them to pay for the damage?

Maybe. Maybe not.

But he did know who to call.

Enter: Fort Wayne Wheel Repair.

Saved in his phone as “Wheel Wizards,” Derrick and Stefanie had been working automotive miracles for 25 years. It didn’t matter if your ride was a clunky 1993 Ford Tempo or a 2025 McLaren with tires that cost more than rent—they didn’t judge. They just fixed it. He hit “Call.”

The voice on the other end was as comforting as warm engine oil on a cold day. “It happens more than you’d think,” Derrick said. “We’ll get you fixed up—don’t worry.” And that was that. No lecture. No judgment. Not even a chuckle at his pothole sob story. Just help.

Because let’s be honest—between potholes, parking lot mishaps, and late-night Taco Bell curb hops, wheel damage is practically a rite of passage these days. But there’s a difference between having a damaged rim and living with one.

This is Fort Wayne. The potholes are real. But so is the fix. So next time the street opens up beneath you like a Hollywood sinkhole, skip the panic and remember the name: Fort Wayne Wheel Repair.

They’ll fix the rim. And maybe your pride.

Just ask Josh.

"Leather, High Heels, and a Bad Attitude. Here I Come"

- Lady Gaga

In the heart of Fort Wayne—where Midwest grit meets underground glam—a style revolution is taking root. One stitched in leather, charged with confidence, and unapologetically bold. At the forefront is Neesh, a custom leather and alternative apparel shop that pushes the boundaries of wearable clothing and redefines what fashion can mean in this city.

Known for their avant-garde, handmade leather goods and innovative, fantasy-driven wear, Neesh isn’t just a shop—it’s a cultural statement. Here, style is personal and challenges existing ideas. Walk inside, and you're met with more than just racks of clothing. You’re stepping into a world of experimental design and radical self-expression.

From tailored motorcycle vests and jackets to daring clubwear to ultramodern, one-of-a-kind statement pieces—everything at Neesh is crafted to turn heads and spark conversation. Whether you’re dressing for a bachelorette party, a leather night, or just everyday rebellion, every piece is as bold as its wearer.

But Neesh goes far beyond leather. The shop’s progressive approach to fashion includes dramatic masks, eye-catching jewelry, and expertly made pup gear—everything is made in-house, and each item is as unique as the person wearing it. No mass production. No compromise. Just pure craftsmanship.

Behind the scenes, a team of skilled artisans is breaking tradition as they cut and shape leather, craft accessories, and stitch meaning into every seam. It's here that Fort Wayne’s fashion edge is forged—this isn’t fashion dictated by coastal trends; it’s a homegrown movement rooted in authenticity, raw creativity, and the courage to stand out.

Neesh has become a sanctuary for the city's boldest dressers, those who blur the line between costume and clothing, and proudly wear their identity. In a world dominated by fast fashion, Neesh stands out as Fort Wayne’s beacon of cutting-edge style—a place where fashion isn’t just worn. It’s lived.

Elegance on Every Wall

In the world of home décor, few things elevate a space like a beautifully framed piece of art. Whether it’s a cherished photograph, a family heirloom, or a favorite print, the right frame doesn’t just protect—it transforms. That’s the philosophy at Frame Art & Design, Fort Wayne’s premier custom framing shop, where style and craftsmanship have gone hand in hand since 1995.

Led by the talented mother-daughter duo Marta Pequignot and Kate Sorgenfrei, Frame Art & Design is more than a frame shop—it’s a studio of visual storytelling. With a team that includes three Certified Picture Framers® (CPF®), their expertise is backed by the Professional Picture Framers Association and decades of hands-on experience. These credentials don’t just sound impressive—they ensure that every piece brought into the shop receives museum-level care and design attention.

But this team isn’t just framing pictures—they’re framing memories, milestones, and masterpieces. Whether you’re commemorating a wedding day or showcasing your child’s first painting, Frame Art & Design understands that what you hang on your walls reflects your life—and deserves to be presented in a way that’s both beautiful and lasting.

Their selection ranges from luxury custom real wood frames to ready-made options, sourced from a dozen top-tier suppliers. Each design is tailored to complement your artwork, space, and style. “A frame should never compete with the art—it should elevate it,” says Kate. And elevate it they do.

Beyond framing, Frame Art & Design offers fine art printing and scanning, professional art installation, artist collaboration, and corporate art specification—all under one stylish roof. Their in-house fine art printing ensures that your photos and reproductions are handled with the same care as an original painting, while their installation services take the stress out of getting everything just right on your wall.

For businesses, Frame Art breaks up large wall spaces by transforming blank areas into branded, inviting environments. For artists, it’s a trusted partner in creating professional, exhibition-ready presentations. For designers specifying furniture, it’s always best to help clients complete the wall space so that it reflects the same level of design intention as the furnishings.

With a warm, collaborative approach and a passion for design, Frame Art & Design has helped clients bring beauty and elegance into their homes for nearly 30 years. So if you’re ready to take your space from ordinary to artfully curated, start with the frame. Because at Frame Art, style is always part of the picture.

Magik Is In the Air

Fort Wayne has a new reason to sing. Magik Sing, the city’s first upscale karaoke bar with private rooms, officially opened its doors this weekend, offering a one-of-akind experience for music lovers, partygoers, and casual crooners alike.

With nine private karaoke suites—each soundproofed and equipped with state-of-the-art audio systems, mood lighting, and touchscreen song selection from an extensive global library—guests can belt out their favorite hits in total comfort and privacy.

Beyond the rooms, Magik Sing features a chic open lounge and full-service bar with signature cocktails named after pop icons. “We wanted to create a space where people could sing, sip, and socialize,” said a spokesperson for the venue. “This isn’t your typical bar with a mic in the corner—we’re bringing the full experience.”

A rotating menu of small plates complements the drinks, designed for sharing between songs and adding to the social, relaxed vibe.

Over the weekend, the lounge buzzed with energy as groups rotated between the bar and private rooms, laughter echoing as much as lyrics.

Magik Sing fills a gap in Fort Wayne nightlife: a place that combines performance and connection. “You don’t have to be a great singer to have a great time,” the spokesperson added. “You just have to show up.”

Magik Sing is open six nights a week. Bookings can be made online or at the door. One visit, and you’ll understand—it’s not just karaoke, it’s magik.

The lounge can be used outside of normal operating hours by event coordinators to host ballroom and line dancing, DJ shows or other small scale programs. magiksingfw.com

Style isn’t just about the finish—it’s about the experience. At Colvin Kitchen & Bath, that means a smooth, transparent, and collaborative process from start to finish. Their team handles everything from consultation to completion, offering free estimates, 12-month financing, and lifetime warranties on custom tile showers built with Schluter Kerdi systems— renowned for durability and waterproof performance.

Kitchen projects range from simple updates—like cabinet refreshing and new backsplashes—to full transformations with quartz or granite countertops, undercabinet lighting, and open-plan redesigns.

Bathroom remodels are where Colvin truly shines. Large-format tile showers, luxury vanities, and tub-to-shower conversions are crafted to feel both modern and timeless. With every tile placed and every fixture chosen, Colvin creates spaces that are as practical as they are beautiful.
