Editor’s Note Hello, Friends and Family of Fort Wayne,

I

’m Breanna Spillers, the Social Media Manager here at Fort Wayne Lifestyle, and if there’s one thing I love most about this city, it’s the people. I get the privilege of telling your stories, highlighting your businesses, and celebrating the heart and soul that makes Fort Wayne feel like home.

Our June Men’s Issue is dedicated to the hardworking men of Fort Wayne—the fathers, brothers, mentors, neighbors, and friends who show up every day and make life better in ways big and small. They’re the quiet supporters, the advice-givers, the “I’ve got this” kind of guys.

Some fix what’s broken. Some listen when it matters most. And some just lead by example— with grit, heart, and humility.

This issue is a tribute to them. To the men who don’t always get the spotlight but deserve every bit of it.

On a personal note, I’d like to dedicate this issue to the man who’s taught me more than anyone else—my father, Billy Moore. He’s not just the publisher of Fort Wayne Lifestyle; he’s my greatest teacher and the person who’s always believed in me, especially when I didn’t believe in myself. He’s passed down wisdom that he learned from his father, Billy Moore Sr., and those lessons—about work, family, and faith—are things I hope to pass on one day too.

W

hat you’re reading right now is partially my fault — and entirely Billy Moore’s passion project. I’ve never been more proud to say that. This is a story about my friend, my brother in spirit, and my partner in creating something truly special: Fort Wayne Lifestyle Magazine.

Billy and I go way back — I mean way back. We’re talking ping pong battles in the garage, smashing Hot Wheels on the sidewalk, and laughing until our guts hurt.

For decades, we lost touch. Life does that sometimes.

But when we reconnected, it was like the years had never passed. He called me out of the blue one day and said, “I’ve got an idea.” He wanted to start a community magazine in Fort Wayne. I said, “You’re nuts.” He said, “Maybe. But we’re doing it.” And we did.

Now let me be real: Billy does all the work. I might offer a nudge here and there, but he’s the driving force.

I joke that I’m the backseat driver in this operation, but Billy’s the one steering, pressing the gas, fixing the flat, and planning the next road trip all at once. As Publisher, he handles the editing, layout, proofreading, direction — everything. And somehow, he still makes time to check in on what matters to you: the people of Fort Wayne.

He’s the most loyal person I know — the only guy I trust 100%, no hesitation. He’s lived a dozen lifetimes: a little rough around the edges, looks like he could lead a biker gang, but the truth is, he’s just a big-hearted softie who’ll give you the shirt off his back — and a Ding Dong, a bologna sandwich, and a cold Pepsi to go with it.

His daughter Bre is just like him: sharp, creative, and kind. She runs the social media side of the magazine and keeps us connected with the community in ways we never imagined. Together, they’re building something that matters.

Billy’s the kind of guy who can make anything happen.

He obsesses over every page of the magazine — the stories, the recipes, the family activities. He puts in hours making sure this publication reflects what you need, what you care about, and what makes this town feel like home.

People always love Billy more than they like me — and honestly, I get it. He’s magnetic. He’s sincere. And he’s got stories for days. Just watch your ears if you go fishing with him — hell, he’ll catch your ear with a hook if you’re not careful. But he is great at reeling in success.

Shaping Smiles, Building Community: Dr. Brandon Parrish of Parrish Orthodontics

F

or Dr. Brandon Parrish, orthodontics is more than a profession—it’s a perfect blend of science, art, and purpose. As the owner of Parrish Orthodontics, Brandon has spent the past 15 years transforming smiles and building relationships in Fort Wayne, one patient at a time.

“I’ve always been drawn to both science and art,” Brandon explains. “Orthodontics gave me the chance to pursue both—it’s where biology, physics, and aesthetics all come together to create something life-changing.”

It was that harmony between science and creativity that ignited his path into orthodontics, but it’s the people—his patients, team, and family—that keep him inspired.

Food for Thought Maple Bacon Double Cheeseburgers Ingredients • 3 pounds ground beef chuck • Vegetable oil, for the grill • 12 slices bacon, halved • 3 tablespoons pure maple syrup • Coarsely ground pepper • 6 sesame hamburger buns, split • 1/4 cup mayonnaise • 2 tablespoons ketchup • 2 teaspoons spicy brown mustard • 1 teaspoon Louisiana-style hot sauce • Kosher salt • 12 slices colby jack cheese • Pickle chips, for topping

Directions 1. Form the ground beef into 12 thin patties, about 4 1/2 inches wide.

2. Place on a baking sheet and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to firm up.

3. Preheat a grill to high and lightly oil the grates.

Whiskey Smash

4. Garnish with a mint sprig.

5. Mint Sprig Garnish 6. Firmly slap the mint sprig on the back of your hand before garnishing; this releases the oils to make the mint more aromatic.

Ingredients • 3 lemon wedges • 2 ounces bourbon • 3/4 ounce simple syrup • 4 mint leaves • Garnish: mint sprig

Steps 1. Muddle the lemon wedges in a shaker.

2. Add bourbon, simple syrup, mint leaves, and ice. Shake until well-chilled.

3. Double-strain into a whiskey glass over fresh ice.

4. Meanwhile, put the bacon in a large nonstick skillet (it’s OK if the slices overlap – they’ll shrink). Turn the heat to medium and cook, turning occasionally, until browned and crisp, 15 to 20 minutes.

5. Remove the bacon to a plate. Pour the drippings into a bowl and reserve.

6. Return the bacon to the skillet in a single layer.

7. Drizzle with the maple syrup and sprinkle with 1 teaspoon pepper.

8. Cook over medium heat, turning the bacon to coat in the syrup, until glazed, about 1 minute; remove to a plate to cool.

9. Brush the cut sides of the buns with some of the bacon drippings. Mix the mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard and hot sauce in a small bowl.

10. Season the patties with salt and pepper on both sides. Working in batches, grill the patties until marked on the bottom, 2 minutes, then flip and top each with a slice of cheese.

11. Cover and cook 30 more seconds for medium doneness.

12. Toast the buns on the grill.

13. Assemble the burgers: Spread the mayonnaise sauce on the buns. Fill with the pickles, patties (2 per burger) and bacon.

The Covington Art Fair has grown into one of the best fine art fairs in the region. In its 33rd consecutive year of operation, the festival features a unique variety of local, regional, and national artists. Set in one of the area’s most unique shopping destinations, Covington Plaza, the event augments the artists’ displays with fine dining and great specialty shops that are a magnet for upscale customers.

Jazz music accompanies the high-quality art.

June 28, 2025 Middle Waves Music Festival

Embassy Theatre Headwaters Park | 3:00 pm to 11:59 pm Middle Waves Music Festival will take place on Saturday, June 28 at Headwaters Park in downtown Fort Wayne. This year, Phantogram brings the energy to Fort Wayne as the festival headliner.

Art Zone: Patrons can get creative and complete their festival look in the art zone as they craft a flower crown or bracelet or visit the glitter bar to add a touch of sparkle.

Game Zone: In between bands, attendees can head over to the game zone and enjoy classic yard games like Cornhole and Connect 4.

Vendor Zone: Music lovers can visit creative local vendors to support small businesses and shop for goodies like stickers, candles, jewelry and more.

Local food partners will join the festivities.

Raising the Bar on Health: How Dr. Dominic Schultz Is Redefining Recovery in Fort Wayne

r. Dominic Schultz isn’t just changing lives—he’s changing the standard of care.

He’s got the precision and discipline for it, but thankfully, Steve traded spreadsheets for suspension kits, and Fort Wayne’s truck community is better for it.

David Detwiler of Farmers Insurance: Building Trust, One Policy at a Time F or David Detwiler, becoming an entrepreneur wasn’t just a dream—it was a calling. Seventeen years ago, he took a leap of faith and opened his own Farmers Insurance agency, driven by a desire to lead, serve, and make a difference. “I wanted to be in charge, to make the decisions,” he says. “I could see the success I was having working for someone else, and that gave me the confidence to go out on my own.”

David’s interest in insurance began early in life.

“Ever since I was a teenager just starting to drive, I remember meeting with my family’s insurance agent and thinking, ‘I could do this.’ I admired how he helped people. That stuck with me.”

Today, David channels that early inspiration into every client interaction. “My business is a way to help people truly understand their coverage and feel protected,” he explains. “When someone files a claim, they need to know they’re covered. I take pride in making sure they are—and often, I can improve their coverage while saving them money.”

Alex Houser: Redefining the Pawnshop Experience F

or Alex Houser, managing Indiana Loan Company isn’t just about running a business—it’s about shifting perceptions and helping people, one meaningful interaction at a time.

As a third-generation member of the pawn industry, Alex grew up with the business in his blood. “My grandpa started in this industry, and my family has continued it ever since,” he shares. While he originally began working at Indiana Loan Company as a high school senior, what started as just a job quickly evolved into something more. “After a few years, the business really grew on me,” he says. “Now, I look forward to coming in almost every day.”

Over the past decade, Alex has built strong connections with the community. “I feel like I’m helping people every single day. A lot of our customers are regulars—I know them by name, and we genuinely enjoy talking with each other. That’s what keeps me going.”

One standout memory from his time with the company? Gearfest.

“Working in the used tent at Gearfest, hosted by Sweetwater, was an incredible experience. We’d sell used instruments and meet musicians from all over the country. It was busy, fun, and full of energy.”

But Alex’s passion doesn’t stop at the day-to-day operations. He’s on a mission to change the way people view pawnshops. “There’s a stigma around pawnshops—that everything’s stolen or shady, but that couldn’t be further from the truth, especially here. We run our business with integrity and ethics, and our Google reviews speak to that. I want people to see us like they would any second-hand or resale store—only with more heart.”

His favorite part of the shop? The jewelry section. “We refurbish all our jewelry and sell it at a fraction of what you’d pay at a traditional store— usually around one-third to half the price. It’s one of our best-kept secrets.”

Outside the shop, Alex enjoys dining at local favorite Copper Spoon, especially when they’re serving their famously flavorful New York Strip.

“Best steak in town,” he says.

If he weren’t at Indiana Loan Company? “Honestly, I’d probably be doing something boring. Nothing else would give me this kind of connection to people or sense of community.”
