Hello Friends and Neighbors,
My name is Matt Coffel, and I’m proud to serve as the CEO of Fort Wayne Lifestyle. Alongside my longtime friend and business partner, Bill Moore, we’ve poured our hearts into creating the amazing piece of community storytelling you’re holding in your hands right now. We’re so grateful you’ve invited us into your home, and we promise to keep showing up each month with fresh, meaningful, and inspiring content that reflects the vibrant people and events of our beloved Fort Wayne.
Make no mistake—this publication isn’t ours. It’s yours. It’s for you, about you, and inspired by you. This month is especially close to my heart. Welcome to the May Woman’s Issue—a full-on celebration of the incredible women who make our lives richer, stronger, and more beautiful. Ladies, let’s be honest: you’re the real MVPs, the unsung heroes, the CEOs of our homes and hearts. This issue is for you.
Gracing our cover is the most amazing woman I know—my mom, Linda. And right by her side is her faithful co-pilot, Buddy. Mom, you are my compass, my calm, and my inspiration. Everything I’ve ever done, including this magazine, is because of your love, strength, and example. You’ve given me everything—and I dedicate this venture to you.
To the best mom I ever had, Love, Your son — Matt
The Heart Behind Pin-Up The Heart Behind Pin-Up
By Erin Raber, Owner of Pin-Up Curls Salon, Spa & Boutique
When I opened the doors of Pin-Up Curls over a decade ago, I had no idea how much this business would shape my life— and the lives of so many others.
I didn’t always know I wanted to be in the beauty industry. I just knew I loved helping people feel good. As a kid, I loved makeup, fashion, and playing dress up, but I didn’t realize that passion could turn into a powerful, purpose-driven career.
After attending college and not quite finding my place, I became a mom—and that’s when I knew I needed to do something I truly loved. I enrolled in cosmetology school and fell in love from day one. That decision changed everything.
More Than a Salon
What started as a way to help support my family quickly turned into something much bigger. With the encouragement of two industry mentors, I began to realize the beauty industry was filled with opportunity—not just for creativity, but for leadership, business, and purpose.
Today, I’m proud to lead Pin-Up Curls Salon, Spa & Boutique, a business that began with six stylists and has grown to a team of nearly 30. We’ve expanded our offerings from hair to nails, spa treatments, lashes, and even a boutique. As of this year, we signed a lease to add another 2,000 square feet to our space.
But what matters most to me isn’t the growth—it’s the people.
Many of our team members join us at just 19 years old, unsure of their own potential. I get to watch them hit incredible life milestones—buying cars, moving into their first homes, flying for the first time. That’s what fills my heart.
Leading with Heart and Humility I lead with authenticity, kindness, and a strong belief in teamwork. When my team feels supported, I know they can give that same care to our guests. And when I hear laughter in the back room, see them lifting each other up, or read a glowing guest review, I know we’re doing something right.
In 2015, we were named a Salon Today Top 200 Salon—a huge moment of validation that told me we were on the right path. I didn’t go to school for business. I’ve learned everything through experience, leaning on mentors, and asking questions. I also served as a Eufora Business Educator, training and supporting other salons around the country— something that helped me grow just as much as those I had the privilege to teach.
Of course, there have been hard seasons too— especially during COVID. But we stayed connected, supported each other, and came back stronger. I’ve also learned to navigate the rising costs of doing business and how deeply guest feedback—positive or negative—can impact a team. We care deeply, and we’re always trying to do our best.
If
I Weren’t Doing This…
If I weren’t in the beauty industry, I probably would’ve gone into forensic nursing. I love true crime podcasts, and my husband and I fall asleep to Forensic Files most nights. I’m fascinated by the mystery—not so much the crime.
I could also see myself in marketing. I’ve actually really enjoyed learning about branding and doing the business sides of marketing on my own. I’m
proud of the fact that I’m self-taught in a field I knew absolutely nothing about. It’s been a challenge—but such a rewarding one.
No matter what I’d be doing, I know I’d still be a leader. Supporting others, helping them grow, and believing in them when they don’t yet believe in themselves—that’s what I was made to do.
A Little Bit About Me
Outside of the salon, I’m a proud wife and mom of two boys—soon to be an official empty nester. I’m a true crime junkie who loves margaritas, coffee from Mocha Lounge, working out at Triumph Studios, golfing at Orchard Ridge, and occasionally hitting the ballroom floor at Fred Astaire. I love the beach and any excuse to travel. Life is full, fun, and always moving—but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Services I Love & What’s New at the Salon
No matter what service you choose at Pin-Up Curls, we always include a little pampering. Whether it’s a haircut or a facial, we believe every guest deserves a “wow” moment. Personally, I’m obsessed with
our shampoo experience—scalp, neck, and hand massage, warm towel, and eye pillow. It’s simple, but truly next-level.
I’m also a huge fan of getting a facial every six weeks, and I never go without my lashes. I believe in the products we carry—especially Eufora and Eminence—because they work, they care about our health, and they’re committed to sustainability.
We recently became one of the first salons in the United States to offer Calecim Professional Hair Restoration, a stem cell-based treatment that reactivates dormant hair follicles and promotes fuller, healthier hair. It’s a non-invasive solution for those experiencing hair thinning, and we’re already seeing great results.
And while our boutique is still growing, it’s something I believe in. We offer size-inclusive, versatile fashion (S–3XL), along with jewelry, giftable items, and accessories. It’s a great way to stop by, shop, and get a feel for our culture—especially if you’re not quite ready to book a service. You can also shop online at www.pin-upcurls.com.
The Mission Moving Forward
My hope is that Pin-Up Curls becomes a household name in Fort Wayne—a place known for its positive culture, its passion for growth, and its commitment to people. I want it to be a business that parents are proud their children are part of. I want it to be a place that changes how people view this industry.
I want someone to say, “My child is becoming a cosmetologist or esthetician,” and say it with the same pride as if they were becoming a doctor— because this career is real, impactful, and worthy of respect.
At the end of the day, I just want everyone who walks into our salon—whether they’re a guest or a team member—to feel seen, valued, and cared for. And to walk out a little lighter, a little brighter, and a whole lot more confident.

Framing Her Legacy: Kate Sorgenfrei of Frame Art & Design
For Kate Sorgenfrei, owner of Frame Art & Design in Fort Wayne, custom framing is more than a business—it’s a family legacy and a lifelong passion. As a fourth-generation woman artist, Kate has spent over 20 years immersed in the world of art, design, and creative expression.
“I’ve been in the framing business my entire life,” Kate shares. She began working at the shop as a teenager, alongside her family, continuing through college while attending design school. After graduating in 2003, she fully committed to the industry, discovering her talent for color, composition, and creating meaningful spaces through custom framing.
In 2023, she officially took ownership of Frame Art & Design from her mother, proudly continuing the family tradition. “When the opportunity came to purchase the business, it was a no-brainer. This is in my blood.”
Today, Kate leads a passionate team that works with artists, designers, and walk-in customers to create beautifully framed pieces that reflect individual style and purpose. “I truly have a heart for art,” she says. “Whether it’s helping artists showcase their work, preserving someone’s cherished memory, or tackling a design challenge, it’s a joy to be part of their story.”
Her ultimate goal? To continue educating the community about the art of custom framing and expand services to include more commercial and corporate projects. “I want people to know we’re more than a frame shop—we’re a creative resource.”
Outside of work, Kate enjoys Fort Wayne’s food scene, especially Black Canyon or tacos and margaritas from Cebollas. Her biggest inspiration is her mom, who taught her resilience and kindness. “She has an incredible way of lifting people up! She has overcome a lot of obstacles and still keeps moving forward! Her drive to put in the work and make it happen is truly what keeps me motivated to do the same!”
Kate encourages new clients to book a free consultation. “The amount of information you would walk away with will definitely educate you on all of the incredible services we do at Frame Art & Design.”
A defining moment in her career was moving the business to a larger space. Her mom designed every detail of the new location, and within two days, the shop was up and running—ready for larger projects and growth. “It was a major turning point,” Kate recalls. While custom framing is their foundation, the business offers much more—printing, scanning, art specification for commercial projects, minor repairs, and consultations with in-house designers. “You name it, we can frame it,” Kate says with a smile.
For Kate, every frame tells a story—and she’s honored to be trusted with so many. “It’s more than just mat board and glass. It’s about preserving moments, honoring legacies, and celebrating creativity. And every day, I get to be a part of that. What a gift.”

Creating Smiles That Last a Lifetime: The Story of Dr. Laura Parrish a
For Dr. Laura Parrish, orthodontics is more than just straightening teeth—it’s about transforming lives, one smile at a time. As the owner of Parrish Orthodontics, Dr. Laura Parrish has dedicated the past 15 years to helping patients achieve healthy, confident smiles.
Her passion for orthodontics began in childhood when she had an expander and braces. Unlike many, she eagerly anticipated every appointment, fascinated by the process and the confidence her improved smile gave her. That early experience shaped her career path,= which led her to pursue orthodontics, with the goal of giving others the same sense of joy and selfassurance.
At Parrish Orthodontics, Dr. Laura Parrish and her team focus on providing exceptional care in a familyfriendly environment. “We are family-owned and truly care about each patient as if they were our own,” she says. Her commitment to personalized treatment ensures that every patient receives the attention they deserve while working toward a smile they’re excited to show off.
One of the most rewarding moments in Dr. Laura Parrish’s career is the day a patient’s braces come off. Seeing the joy and sometimes even tears of gratitude from both patients and their parents is a reminder of why she loves what she does. “It’s incredible to witness their transformation—not just in their smile, but in their confidence,” she shares.
Dr. Laura Parrish’s ultimate goal is to create such a positive experience that patients enthusiastically recommend her practice to others. She believes in making orthodontic treatment enjoyable and accessible for all ages, ensuring that everyone leaves with a smile that lasts a lifetime.
Beyond the office, Dr. Laura Parrish enjoys spending time
with her husband, her dog, and her two boys. As a family, they love activities like visiting Power Up, playing putt-putt, and bowling. And when it comes to food, her boys can’t resist a good chicken sandwich from Popeyes!
Inspired by her father, who encouraged her from a young age to pursue her dreams with dedication and hard work, Dr. Laura Parrish has built a career she truly loves. “I honestly don’t know what I’d be doing if I weren’t an orthodontist,” she admits. “It’s all I’ve ever wanted to do.”
For those considering orthodontic treatment, Dr. Laura Parrish recommends braces as a life-changing investment. “We strive to make the process enjoyable at any age, helping patients achieve a smile they’ll love for a lifetime.”

A Flavorful Twist of Fate: The Story Behind the Olive Twist
Tucked away in the heart of northeastern Indiana is a culinary gem that’s redefining how people experience flavor—The Olive Twist, Inc. Owned and operated by Lori and Terry Berndt, this vibrant tasting emporium is far more than a specialty store—it’s a heartfelt journey, a labor of love, and a dream turned reality!
Lori’s olive oil story didn’t start in a gourmet kitchen—it began over 30 years ago in the most unexpected way. As a child battling scarlet fever, her doctor recommended a bath in olive oil to soothe her skin. Her mom, more familiar with butter and lard, dug out an old bottle from the back of the cupboard. The rancid smell was unforgettable. Lori remembers thinking, “Who would ever cook with this stuff?”
Fast-forward to adulthood—and a life-changing introduction to fresh, high-quality olive oil—and everything changed. Lori fell in love with cooking, experimenting, and sharing recipes with her sister Pam. Together, they created unforgettable dishes, swapping ingredients, and discovering new favorites by happy accident.
Then in 2010, after a heartbreaking two-year battle with cancer, Pam passed away. Her strength and joy for life inspired Lori and Terry to take a leap of faith. During a trip to the East Coast, Lori visited an olive oil and vinegar tasting bar—and was instantly hooked. The idea was planted. On the plane ride home, she couldn’t stop thinking: What if I opened a tasting bar of my own?
With Terry’s encouragement and Pam’s memory lighting the way, Lori turned that dream
into a reality. And just like that, The Olive Twist opened its doors in October 2010! Since then, it has become a flavorful destination where visitors are invited to taste, mix, and match premium olive oils and aged balsamic vinegars to suit their personal palate.
Come taste the twist that started it all— experiment, indulge, and fall in love with flavor again!

Where Family Meets Fashion: Gina Rentschler of Katali Boutique
For Gina Rentschler, fashion has always been more than clothing— it’s confidence, creativity, and connection. As the owner of Katali Boutique, a stylish and welcoming shop in Fort Wayne, Gina has spent the past six years helping women feel their best, whether they’re headed to work, running errands, or dressing up for a night out.
“I’ve loved fashion since I was a little girl playing with Barbies,” she shares. “Even before school age, I was doing outfit changes and mini fashion shows for my family.” That early passion stuck with her through high school jobs in retail, a career in interior design, and eventually, motherhood.
After moving back to Fort Wayne to start a family and raising five children, Gina felt the call to do something just for herself. “Once my kids were in school, I decided to go for it and open Katali.” The name itself is a tribute to her daughters, Kaitlyn and Allison—a reflection of the deep family roots behind the business.
Katali Boutique was born out of Gina’s desire to fill a gap she saw in Fort Wayne: a space for women 20 and older to find elevated, versatile
fashion for every part of their lives. “I wanted a place where women could shop for stylish pieces for work, play, or special occasions— without sacrificing comfort or confidence.”
From day one, Katali has been a true family affair. “My oldest daughter has worked alongside me since the beginning, and my kids are at the boutique all the time,” Gina says. Even her granddaughter, Thea, is a regular presence, helping out on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
That close-knit energy is what keeps Gina going. “My family and my passion for helping women feel good about themselves—that’s what drives me every day,” she says. “We’re a small team, but we have a huge heart.”
One of her favorite services? Private appointments and parties. “It’s where we really get to know our clients and their style. It’s not just shopping—it’s building relationships.”
Looking ahead, Gina dreams of opening another boutique in Florida and one day passing Katali on to her daughters. “If they want it, I’d love for this to stay in the family.”
For now, she’s focused on what she loves most— serving her community, supporting local, and soaking up sunny days with her family. As Gina puts it: “Katali is built around love, style, and the people who matter most.”

Flower Lanterns (A Gift for mom)
This pressed flower craft is SO PRETTY! Make your own pressed flower lanterns that are beautiful, and really easy to put together! With a bit of Mod Podge and dried flowers you have a gorgeous candle holder that’s super inexpensive to make.
Materials:
• Glass jar/mason jar (straight/smooth sided)
• Pressed flowers
• Mod Podge (matte)
• 4 feet Twine
• Tealight (or votive)
Equipment:
• Paintbrush
Instructions:
Add pressed flowers to the jar.
Paint a small area of the outside of the jar with a thin layer of Mod Podge. It’s best to work in small areas, as the Mod Podge starts to dry very quickly. Press a dried flower onto the Mod Podge. Cover the flower with another layer of Mod Podge. If the flower has layered petals, you may need to “glue” the top petal to the one beneath it with Mod Podge. This will ensure the flower sticks properly. Repeat these steps, covering as much of the jar as you like with pressed flowers. Once all the flowers have been placed on the jar, let the Mod Podge dry for five minutes.
Cover the entire jar with a thin layer of Mod Podge. This will ensure all the flowers stick, and it creates an even texture for any glass that’s showing on the lantern.
Tie the twine
Starting from the center of the twine, loop it around the mouth of the jar several times. Make a knot and then tie a bow out of the remaining twine
Add a candle and light it to see your lantern glow. Your pressed flower lantern is complete!

It’s no surprise that for some, a visit to Blue Moon is more than just a craving—it’s a tradition.
“I always make a point to visit Blue Moon while I’m up here from NC,” says longtime customer Crystal M Morgan. “I used to take my kids here to get the baby cones with eyes, and now it’s my

Kim Win Creates Confidence and Calm at Bliss N Beyond Nail Salon
When Kim Win founded Bliss N Beyond Nail Spa, she wasn’t just opening a business—she was building a sanctuary. As a mother, nurturer, and entrepreneur who immigrated from Burma, Kim had a vision: to create a space where every person could feel pampered, seen, and valued. What began as a dream is now one of Fort Wayne’s most beloved nail spas—a place where artistry meets self-care, and every detail is infused with warmth and intention.
“Nails have always been a form of art and expression for me,” Kim shares. “I wanted to build a place where that expression is celebrated—where beauty and confidence go hand in hand.”
Her journey into the beauty industry was a natural one. Kim has always believed in the joy of transformation—of how a fresh manicure or a relaxing service can uplift a spirit. “Whether it’s preparing for a special event or just taking a moment for self-care, I love being a part of the moments that make people feel special,” she says.
Bliss N Beyond is more than a spa to Kim—it’s her second home. Her clients have become like family, and her team of talented women are the heartbeat of the business.
“Every day I’m driven by the people around me—my family, my clients, and my team,” Kim says.
“We’re not just doing nails; we’re building trust and connection.”
One of Kim’s most memorable milestones was opening the current Bliss N Beyond location. “It was a leap of faith,” she recalls. “But the community showed up, and that grand opening still gives me chills.”
Kim’s long-term vision is to expand services while continuing to offer a peaceful escape from everyday stress.
“I want this to be a place that feels safe, welcoming, and beautiful—for everyone.”
What makes the spa truly unique is the care woven into every detail. From personalized consultations to staff training rooted in kindness, the Bliss N Beyond experience is deeply personal. “Everything here comes from a place of love,” Kim says.
Her go-to recommendation? The classic manicure. “It’s gentle, nurturing, and calming. The ultimate ‘me time.’”
When she’s not at the spa, Kim enjoys spending time with family—especially over a shared meal. Her sister-in-law’s catering business, NineHouse, is a favorite. “My heart is happiest when we’re all laughing together.”
Through Bliss N Beyond, Kim Win is redefining beauty—one soothing moment, and one confident client, at a time.
