FIRE PROTECTION STUDY UPDATE
Michael Rainey & Associates, Inc. presented an update on the ongoing fire protection study, which supports the development of a strategic plan to ensure the City of Forney and the Emergency Services District (ESD) have the necessary fire coverage and emergency response capabilities to meet both current and future needs. This study plays a vital role in evaluating existing resources, identifying opportunities for improvement, and planning for long-term public safety. SLICKS ENTERTAINMENT SITE PLAN APPROVED
City Council approved a site plan for Trailhouse Park Entertainment, located west of Trailhouse Lane and south of Wildwood Boulevard. The site plan establishes the design for a new Slicks entertainment venue on a 5.24-acre property zoned within the Trailhouse Park Planned Development District, where commercial amusement is permitted. The approved plan includes the development of a 31,743-square-foot entertainment venue featuring various games and activities, such as bowling and arcade games, along with an on-site restaurant.
FORNEY FIRE DEPARTMENT SEEKS SAFER GRANT FUNDING
City Council approved the Fire Department’s request to apply for a SAFER Grant through FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. This grant supports local fire departments in increasing staffing and improving emergency response. The Forney Fire Department has successfully used this grant three times before to meet growing service demands. If awarded, the City would be responsible for a cost share: 25% in years one and two, and 65% in year three.
BOARD AND COMMISSION APPOINTMENTS
Council made appointments to several boards and commissions, including the Animal Adoption Center/Shelter Advisory Committee, Board of Adjustment, Building Standards Commission, Economic Historic Overlay District Architectural Review Board, Parks and Recreation Board, and the Planning and Zoning Commission.
