Dutch’s Hut Hours of Operation Update

During the months of December, January and February, Dutch’s Hut be closed. In the event of nice weather, we will notify you via the golf shop if Dutch’s Hut will be open.

Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Huff!

On Saturday, November 12, Ellie Straub, Tripp and Terri’s Daughter, and Derringer Huff got married. They held their reception in our Club’s beautiful ballroom. Congrats to the newlyweds!

Dear Forest Hills Country Club Members,

We hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We are looking forward to a busy holiday season and hope to see you at the Club celebrating with your loved ones. The staff has been working hard the last few weeks planning all of our wonderful holiday events. Here is a brief update on the projects that continue around the Club.

Creek Stabilization

I am happy to announce that our creek stabilization project has begun. Our contractors mobilized the week of Thanksgiving and will be working in the creek building three engineered rock riffles from Hole #7 fairway to Hole #14 the month of December. They will then move onto the upstream half of the project building the remaining three engineered rock riffles from Hole #8 green through Hole #5 green starting in January. Once the rock riffles are completed, restoration and additional native plants will be planted along the creek. We will continue to receive large stone material during this process. The current material storage site near Hole #14 will be relocated upstream to create greater efficiencies in hauling materials on the upstream end of the project. This project should have minimal impact on golf play with the exception of loud noise when the stone materials are being delivered and placed. Please be mindful of the large equipment in use during the improvement to the creek. We will continue to provide updates in our weekly project update emails.

Short Game/Better Billy Bunkers

Viridity has completed the Short Game Area and the Better Billy Bunkers. They demobilized the week of Thanksgiving. The greens are growing in nicely on the Short Game Area and the newly renovated North Practice Green. We are looking forward to the opening of both facilities in May of 2023. Feedback on the Better Billy Bunkers from the membership has been extremely positive and they have performed well in the few rainstorms that we have had since their completion.

Bocce Courts

We have made great progress on the construction of the two bocce ball courts. All concrete, landscaping and drainage are complete. We are anticipating the turf install to take place the second week of December. Only minor detail work such as lighting and furniture will be left to complete after the turf installation. As mentioned prior, Assistant General Manager, Ryan Schaben, is currently meeting with other clubs in the area to gain insight on how those clubs handle their bocce leagues and open play. With this information, we will determine the details of our program offerings for leagues and open play and then we will communicate our program before the spring league begins.

Tree Plan

Our contractor has begun removing trees for creek access. They will continue working on the additional trees beyond the creek that have been tagged with an orange ribbon around the trunk in the coming weeks. We anticipate them to work every Monday to get as many trees removed as possible when the golf course is closed. They will continue working during the week on a weather dependent basis. We anticipate them to work furthest away from street access on dry days first (Holes #15, #16, #17). On wet days when access becomes challenging, trees close to hard surfaces will be the focus. As a reminder, these trees have been analyzed by a subcommittee of the Grounds Committee. The subcommittee evaluated all trees and developed a list of trees that are sick, dying, dead or hindering the ability to grow good turf. Any tree that fell into one of those categories made it on the list and was ribboned. Many of the sick and dying trees are Ash trees, which show signs of infestation by Emerald Ash Borers, an invasive pest. The Grounds Committee evaluated the ribbon trees and recommended removing them. Thank you for your patience as we continue to improve the Club. We appreciate all your support, and we look forward to seeing you and your family around the Club this holiday season.

Simply log on to ForeTees and click the lesson tab to schedule or the “Book a Lesson” on the app. Take advantage of the indoor, heated teaching bay and make a commitment to improve this winter.

We understand that everyone is not on social media, but those that are, make it a point to follow Forest Hills Country Club on Instagram and Facebook. Tips from the Tee by Ryan Martin

ryanm@foresthillscc.net

Although the weather has changed and winter is here, your golf game can still be improving. Here at Forest Hills, we are fortunate to have a heated teaching room with state of the art technology from Trackman Golf. This allows golfers to receive relevant data from their golf swing and pinpoint areas where they can make significant improvements. One lesson can be very beneficial to a golfer, however, meeting regularly with me can produce more significant results. To help encourage this, I am offering Holiday Lesson packages as an option to our members.

Discounted packages:

Adult Holiday Lesson Package of 5 = $515

Junior Holiday Lesson Package of 5 = $400

Starting this month, you can check my availability and book lessons through Foretees. Simply click on the lessons tab at the choose the correct date, and finally pick what time you prefer. For any questions, or to purchase a holiday lesson package, con at: ryanm@foresthillscc.net or text (314) 322 7155
