COFFEE WITH A COP

On February 22, 2024 Chief Hillman, Councilmembers Sarah Aquino and Anna Rohrbough, various members of the police department and many community members participated in the Coffee with a Cop event. It was confirmed that Folsom Ranch continues to have no dedicated officers to the area, there is still not a plan to require full-time coverage in the area, nor is there a stated intent to support additional sworn office positions to change this in the next fiscal year which begins this summer.
The police department has requested that officers covering other areas of the city come down to Folsom Ranch when they have availability. This effort was the source of the stepped-up traffic enforcement in the area recently, but this causes a strain elsewhere as it stretches the police department thin throughout the city. It may not be a solution that can meet the needs of a growing, diversifying area which will hit 4,000 residential units this year while opening multiple commercial businesses, a second school, and its first park. In the meantime, left without a consistent public safety presence, the community has taken to neighborhood watches, video camera surveillance, and a parent-run Crossing Guard effort at the intersection of Mangini Parkway and Sawyer Way.

aware the call had come from her household. No arrests or stops were believed to have been made in this case. The police department, at this event, stated that a 30 minute response time for non-emergency calls is a good response time.
As city budget season approaches, please consider reaching out to your councilperson, Vice-Mayor Sarah Aquino, Mayor Mike Kozlowski, and Chief Hillman about allocating additional resources and officers so that the entire community South of 50 has dedicated officers present to address public safety concerns and calls.

One neighbor, Amy McBride, shared a recent experience in which several dozen teenagers were drinking, causing property damage, and shooting off airsoft guns over the weekend at the apartment units still under construction. She then contacted the police department which took over 30 minutes to respond, and the youths approached her home as they were

WHO WROTE THIS?
In the heart of our community, Kaladhaara arts academy elevates cultural spirit, preserving tradition and inspiring grace through an Indian classical dance form called Bharatanatyam. We are a growing dance school mainly operating in Folsom and Mather with occasional classes in Roseville.
Beyond the studio, Kaladhaara Arts Academy actively engages with the community, participating in cultural events, collaborations, and outreach programs. For the Correa family, their move to Folsom Ranch was more than just a relocation - it was an embrace of a future filled with promise. Jon, a Privacy Engineer by trade, and Jordan, a local real estate agent with a passion for connecting people and places, sought a life where their young family and careers could flourish together. They settled in Folsom Ranch during the summer of 2020, after finding a community that matched their vibrant family dynamic.
Jon and Jordan, who will celebrate seven years of marriage next month, have cultivated a life in Folsom that resonates deeply with their values. With two boys close in age, Folsom Ranch provided the space for their family to grow, and a community that cherishes the same spirit of innovation and growth they hold dear.
The allure of Folsom Ranch was rooted in its vibrant community spirit, the serene natural settings, and a rich tapestry of cultural diversity. It wasn't long after the Correas' first visit that they knew they had stumbled upon their future home - a home that promised new friendships, adventures, and a sense of belonging. The early days at Russell Ranch were filled with simple joys: bike rides at dusk, walks under the canopy of stars, and the kind of festive community gatherings that turn neighbors into family.
Amidst this idyllic setting, Jon and Jordan also found the perfect environment to nurture their entrepreneurial spirit. Jon has successfully established a referral and

marketing agency that serves the local community. Jordan, with her keen sense for community building, spearheaded the creation of a women's empowerment group - a space where local women find inspiration and camaraderie over shared successes and challenges.
In their time at Folsom Ranch, the Correas have woven themselves into the community's fabric through charity work, local business engagement, and neighborhood festivities. These moments have not only enriched their family life but have also affirmed their commitment to contributing positively to their community.
Reflecting on the path that led them to Folsom Ranch, the Correas are filled with a sense of gratitude. The move has fortified

their family bond, brought them closer to achieving their dreams, and reinforced their love for a community that feels just right.
As they forge ahead, the Correas hope to inspire others with their story, encouraging bold steps toward the perfect blend of lifestyle and community. Folsom Ranch, for them, is not merely a residence; it is a place where life's dreams are nurtured and where every day is a step toward something bigger. •

CELEBRATING ONE YEAR OF
BEDROCK
Building a Strong Community rough Passion and Progress

As the month of March dawns upon us, Bedrock Jiu Jitsu proudly celebrates its 1st year anniversary. Nestled in the heart of Folsom Ranch, this humble studio has become more than just a place to practice martial arts; it has become a cornerstone of community and growth for both kids and adults alike.
Reflecting on our journey from inception to now, it's incredible to witness the transformation that has taken place within our students. A year ago, many of them stepped onto our mats with little to no knowledge of Jiu Jitsu, let alone the techniques required to spar with finesse. It felt like an uphill battle, but with dedication and perseverance, our students have blossomed beyond expectation.
Perhaps the most rewarding aspect of our journey has been witnessing the development of our young practitioners. The strides they've made in skill and maturity are nothing short of astounding. From learning the basics to executing complex maneuvers, their progress embodies the essence of our passion for Jiu Jitsu.
BEDROCK
JIU JITSU
Our commitment to fostering a tight-knit community extends beyond the confines of our studio walls. We take pride in the relationships we've cultivated with both our students and their families, creating a supportive network that transcends the boundaries of age and experience.
Moreover, our adult classes have flourished, with practitioners of all levels coming together to share in the joy and challenge of mastering this ancient art form. The sense of

camaraderie and mutual respect that permeates our studio is a testament to the power of martial arts to unite and uplift.
As we mark this significant milestone, we are filled with gratitude for the opportunity to share our passion with the Folsom Ranch community. Bedrock Jiu Jitsu is more than just a studio; it's a sanctuary where individuals come to grow, learn, and connect with others who share their love for martial arts.
Looking ahead, we are excited to continue our journey of growth and discovery, guided by the principles of discipline, respect, and perseverance that lie at the core of Jiu Jitsu. Together, we will continue to build not only better martial artists but also better individuals who embody the spirit of community and collaboration.
Here's to one year of Bedrock Jiu Jitsu and many more to come. Oss! •

UPDATES FROM THE COMMUNITY PUBLIC SAFETY IN FOLSOM RANCH

At the December 12, 2024 Folsom City Council Meeting, Councilmember Anna Rohrbough brought up the issue of public safety and brought to the attention of the council that of the five police “beats” in the city, the only beat without any assigned officers is #5, the Folsom Ranch beat. Now-former Mayor Rosario Rodriguez requested Police Chief Rick Hillman to come give more information on the status of police coverage in Folsom Ranch. Chief Hillman confirmed to the city council that though the city council had intended to fund 3 officers for Folsom Ranch, the police administration had final say over where the officers were actually assigned and confirmed that no officers were assigned to Folsom Ranch because it was not a high crime area- and the officers were needed elsewhere in the city. Instead, the police department had asked officers to sign up for voluntary overtime shifts to cover Folsom Ranch which Chief Hillman estimated were only filled 50% of the time. There was discussion about cadets graduating in December 2023, but no promises were made about where those officers would be assigned once their training was complete. Traffic patrols, however, are often present in Folsom Ranch based upon resident statements and observations of the editorial staff of this Folsom Ranch Living Magazine.

spoken to the city manager about how to accelerate the timeline for building it. The Folsom Plan Area Specific Plan, adopted by the city council, reads that “Construction of a new substation is expected to be completed when there is a Plan Area population of approximately 10,000 persons in the 8th year of Plan Area development.”

On February 22, 2024, Chief Hillman and Councilmembers Sarah Aquino and Anna Rohrbough held a meeting at Mangini Ranch Elementary to discuss public safety issues in Folsom Ranch. More on that in the Coffee With A Cop article on page 7 .
The city council did not discuss how to ensure more consistent police coverage can be assured in the meantime, though there have been discussions about the possibility of having officers assigned to office space at the Folsom Ranch Fire Station opening this fall. •

At the January 9, 2024 Folsom City Council Meeting, Councilmembers Rohrbough, Aquino and YK Chalamcherla agreed to bring up a future agenda item at the council about how to work towards a police substation in Folsom Ranch, with Councilmember Aquino stating she had

DIANNA LANEY FOR FCUSD BOARD MEMBER

In recent months, our community has engaged in advocacy to build the next FCUSD High School in Folsom Ranch. During our efforts on this issue, it has become increasingly clear that there are broader issues facing our community when it comes to education. The cost of needed facilities, the timing and location of construction, the limitations of a bond passed 16 years ago and the impact on our community's tax burden are just a few of those issues.
It's become increasingly clear that these challenges are complex AND the need for decisive action is urgent. Currently, Folsom's high schools lack sufficient capacity to absorb the projected number of students in Folsom Ranch. Additionally, the bond to pay for schools is shared with our neighbors in Rancho Cordova who also pay for the bond and there is not enough money to pay for all the schools originally planned. We need leadership on the board willing and able to work with all stakeholders to find solutions. That's why Dianna Laney says she is stepping forward to offer her candidacy for the FCUSD Board.
She is a resident of Folsom with school aged children and has consistently volunteered her time in numerous capacities
throughout the community. Professionally, she is a Financial Planner with over 20 years of experience so she understand solving short term issues while taking the long-view on goals.
As a candidate, her focus is on:
1. Addressing School Access: We must urgently address the capacity issue in our middle & high schools to ensure every student has access to quality education within our community.
2. Comprehensive Decision-Making: She is committed to thoughtful, inclusive decision-making that considers the long-term impact on our community for generations to come. This requires a lot of listening to our teachers, students, and parents.
3. Strategic Planning and Fiscal Responsibility: She brings a commitment to fiscal responsibility and strategic planning to the role, ensuring our dollars are maximized to benefit our students and our valued educators.
The urgency of these decisions demands strong leadership, and she describes herself as “ready to step up to the challenge”. She invites everyone to join her in this journey to work together to build a brighter future for Folsom Cordova Unified.
When the time comes, she humbly asks for your support and your vote.
