Staying Hydrated in the Heat of Summer

The summer heat can be dangerous, especially if you're not properly hydrated Dehydration can lead to a variety of health problems, including heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and even death

That's why it's so important to stay hydrated during the summer months Here are a few tips:

Drink plenty of fluids The old rule of thumb is to drink eight glasses of water per day, but this may not be enough for everyone In hot weather, you may need to drink more than that

Choose the right fluids. Water is always a good choice, but you can also drink other fluids such as juice, milk, and sports drinks. Sports drinks can be especially helpful if you're sweating a lot.

Avoid alcohol and caffeine. Alcohol and caffeine can dehydrate you, so it's best to avoid them in hot weather. Eat hydrating foods. Some foods, such as watermelon and cucumbers, are high in water content. Eating these foods can help you stay hydrated.

Take breaks in the shade If you're working or exercising in the heat, take breaks in the shade to cool down

Wear loose-fitting clothing Loose-fitting clothing will help your body cool down more easily

Moisten your skin Spritzing your skin with water or applying a cool compress can help you stay cool

By following these tips, you can help stay hydrated and healthy in the heat of summer

Who and what is that flying around Folsom Ranch

Have you been wondering about the person that flies around Folsom Ranch with what looks like a parachute connected to a go-kart and a huge fan? We were too so we tracked him down and did an interview to learn more about our flying friend

Tell us a little about yourself. How did you discover your passion for powered paragliding and what inspired you to soar over Folsom Ranch specifically?

My name is Craig Dieterich and I've always been into outdoor, adrenaline-filled activities. About 10 years ago, I saw a YouTube video of a guy-powered paragliding (also known as paramotor) and thought to myself, "Someday I want to do that" The years went by and it fell to the backburner until I met a friend who actually flies and he steered me in the right direction to get started about 9 months ago I went into it thinking it would be such a "rush" flying around, but it's actually more relaxing than anything After training, I started flying around Folsom Ranch because it is so close to home and has great scenery

Can you describe the experience of flying over Folsom Ranch? What makes it a unique and compelling location for powered paragliding?

Flying in this area is amazing because from the air, you can see all of the development that is taking place as well as the historical landscape on the south side of White Rock road It's a great place to fly because it is very open but there are also nice rolling hills. The wind is also usually pretty cooperative here and once in the air, you can even see Folsom lake which is a lot closer than I realized as the crow flies I could easily fly there faster than you could drive and we don't fly fast If I'm flying with the wind I can usually hit about 38mph, but against the wind slows you down quite a bit

What are some of the challenges or obstacles you face when navigating the airspace above Folsom Ranch? How do you ensure safety while enjoying your flights?

I wouldn't really call it a challenge, but one of the most important things to think about when flying paramotors is to always have a way out Meaning if the engine dies, you need to be able to safely glide to an area with a clearing to land. The higher up you are, the longer/further you can glide For now, Folsom Ranch has a lot of areas to safely land in an emergency But it is developing fast Besides constantly scanning for an area to emergency land, you also need to keep an eye out for lower-flying planes and helicopters that head out to explore Folsom Lake I see some once in a while, but they are usually flying at 2500ft or higher and I usually stay around 1500ft or less in this area although legally we are allowed to fly up to 19,000ft! (Highest I've ever been was 3000ft) There is also Mather Airport to the west, so you need to understand and stay out of that restricted airspace Fortunately, I have an app on my phone that tells me where I am, what elevation, speed, and where the edge of airport airspace is It even warns me of approaching aircraft

@folsomranchliving @folsomranchliving 4

How does the landscape and terrain of Folsom Ranch contribute to the thrill and beauty of your flights? Are there any particular landmarks or features that you enjoy seeing from above?

The landscape on the south side of White Rock Road is gorgeous. Especially in the spring I've lived in the area for 15 years and never knew how much beauty there was between Folsom and Rancho Murieta until flying over it. There are some really big ponds, beautiful flowing creeks, amazing hand-built rock wall formations, tons of mature oak trees, endless rolling hills, and even some waterfalls. Oh and of course the famous "white rock" formations.

Can you share any memorable or exhilarating experiences you ' ve had while powered paragliding over Folsom Ranch? Any standout moments or encounters with wildlife or natural phenomena?

Flying out over the pastures at dusk is really fun There are lots of cows staring at me while I fly around, and there are also a lot of rabbits, coyotes, and foxes running around I once saw a coyote chasing a rabbit, but the rabbit got to its hole before becoming a meal I've also flown around Prairie City OHV park and watched the off-road guys playing around on their dirtbikes and crawlers which is only a couple of miles from Folsom Ranch.

Could you describe the typical areas where you take off and land when flying over Folsom Ranch? How do you identify suitable locations for these crucial aspects of your flights?

When looking for a place to take off, you obviously want it to be flat, but you also want it to be open with no trees or other obstacles to get in the way of your take off and landing. As you gain experience, and utilize the light wind, you can learn to take off and land in smaller areas I work for one of the home builders in Folsom Ranch, so I have access to some large open space. Eventually it will be built out though and I'll have to search for another place to launch and land from There is always the airport in Lincoln and Franklin Field in South Sacramento. If you can find a public area that is open and not in restricted airspace, you can usually fly from it Always check first though

What advice or tips would you give to someone who is interested in getting into powered paragliding?

I learned how to fly paramotors at Blue Sky PPG out of Lincoln, CA at the airport They have an area designated for flying paramotors which you can fly from whenever you want There is also a company called Blackhawk Paramotors which is in Valley Springs When you start training, you will be using the school's equipment to learn on then your instructor can help you choose the right equipment for when you complete training and are flying on your own A brand new setup will cost you around $9k-$15k new, but there is a used market with lots of good deals for around half that There are many different wing and engine options depending on the type of flying you want to do as well as advanced equipment for more skilled pilots. I recommend joining some paramotor Facebook groups to learn more The paramotor community is extremely friendly and full of great advice

Folsom Ranch breaks ground on the park and fire station

City workers and community members in Folsom, California, recently marked a significant milestone with groundbreaking ceremonies for two projects in the Folsom Ranch development. The first project, Prospector Park on Sparrow Drive, will be one of nine planned parks in the neighborhood. Spanning 12 acres, the park will offer various amenities such as sports courts, picnic areas, a dog park, and nature areas. Notable features include dueling zip lines, a roller slide, and a 20-foot rope climber for children to enjoy. The second project is Fire Station 34 on Westwood Drive, which is part of the development’s plan to establish two fire stations.

The construction of the $11.8 million fire station is expected to be completed in spring 2024, while the $8.6 million park is projected to finish by summer 2024. The groundbreaking ceremony commenced with a community walk and ride from the park’s location to the fire station. The addition of Fire Station 34 aims to enhance emergency response times, as it will be staffed with a full-time team of three firefighters and an advanced life-support engine. Councilwoman Sarah Aquino expressed excitement about the progress and thanked residents for their patience in awaiting these valuable community amenities

Reimbursement Rights in a Divorce: Family Code 2640.

Family Code 2640, which deals with reimbursement rights in divorce cases, allows a spouse to seek reimbursement if they used separate funds to acquire community property. However, the reimbursement is limited solely to the traced amount of separate property used and excludes interest or appreciation. The tracing process necessitates providing evidence that separate funds were indeed used for the acquisition of community property, such as bank statements, receipts, and escrow documents. Commingling of funds can further complicate this process.

For example, if one spouse contributes a $100,000 separate property down payment on a home purchased for $200,000 during the marriage, and the property appreciates to $300,000 at the time of divorce, the $100,000 down payment could be subject to reimbursement. The remaining $200,000 value of the house would be divided equally between the spouses. To safeguard their separate property interests under Family Code 2640, individuals must maintain meticulous records to facilitate the tracing requirement. Failure to adequately trace and commingle funds often leads to unsuccessful reimbursement claims.

It's important to note that various factors can influence the outcome of such cases, and this article provides only a basic example of Family Code 2640. For personalized legal advice, individuals are encouraged to consult professionals at Hundal Family Law by calling 916-864-3944 or visiting www.hundalfamilylaw.com.

Here are some historical facts about Folsom

Folsom is a city with a rich history. It was founded in 1848, during the Gold Rush, and was originally named Granite City. The city was renamed Folsom in 1855, after Joseph Libbey Folsom, its founder.

Folsom is home to a number of historical landmarks, including Folsom Prison, the Folsom Powerhouse State Historic Park, and the Folsom Historic District. The city is also located near Folsom Lake, which was created in 1955 by the construction of Folsom Dam.

The city was named after Joseph Libbey Folsom, who purchased Rancho Rio de los Americanos from the heirs of William Alexander Leidesdorff in 1855.

Folsom was the site of the first long-distance transmission of electricity in 1895.

The city was the home of the Folsom Culture, a prehistoric Native American culture that flourished in the area from 3,000 to 1,000 years ago.

Folsom is located near the American River, which was a major transportation route for Native Americans and early settlers

Kindergarten First Day Jitters

Starting kindergarten is a big milestone for any child It's a time of new experiences, new friends, and new challenges It's also a time when many children experience first day jitters.

First day jitters are perfectly normal. They're a sign that your child is excited and anxious about starting kindergarten. Here are a few tips to help your child cope with first day jitters:

Talk to your child about their feelings Let them know that it's normal to feel nervous about starting kindergarten Talk about what they're excited about and what they're worried about.

Prepare your child for what to expect Talk to them about what their day will be like, who their teacher will be, and what they'll be learning You can also show them pictures of their classroom and their teacher. Visit the school ahead of time This will help your child get familiar with the school and the surroundings They can also meet their teacher and see their classroom.

Encourage your child to get a good night's sleep the night before This will help them feel well-rested and ready for the day

Give your child a hug and tell them you love them. This will help them feel loved and supported.

If your child is still feeling anxious on the first day of school, don't worry Most children start to feel better once they get settled in Just be there for your child and offer them your support

Here are some additional tips for helping your child cope with first day jitters:

Remind your child that they're not alone Many other children are feeling the same way Focus on the positive Talk about all the things your child is excited about, such as making new friends, learning new things, and having fun Be patient It may take some time for your child to adjust to kindergarten

Be patient and supportive, and they'll eventually feel right at home
