SOCIAL/SCENE

THE SANTA CLAUS … WE ARE HURTLING TOWARDS CHRISTMAS AT AN UNSETTLING SPEED, WITH THE CALENDAR BECOMING A HECTIC MESS OF SOCIAL AND FESTIVE ACTIVITY.

ore than ever, this year has been filled with a dizzying blur of events - many exciting, some shockingly sad and unarming, and some outright insane. On occasion it has felt like we have been transported to Topsy-Turvy Land, a world of opposites where the leader of the free world is a pudgy, pushy, orange tinged dictator with a dubiously droopy comb over and even more dubious world view! Like it or not, we are charging forward to the end of 2017 with just a few days to pause for the Claus, as we unplug from the current craziness of the universe, eat an indecent amount of glazed ham, gobble expensive chocolate and swim in French Champagne! One of my favourite Englishmen, the charming and ever so slightly cheeky Mr Robert Marlowe and his lovely family returned to Port Macquarie recently to celebrate the big 4 - 0 with his Port Macquarie contingent, with a chillaxed afternoon of beer and bubbles, nibbles and belly laughs overlooking stunning Town Beach. Rob started his day with a private flight above Port Macquarie and then celebrated with guests, including Justeen Single and Ed Godschalk, Jarad and Susie Mea, Janet Alexander, Gemma and Jason Clifton, Bronwyn and Andrew Martin. Rob and his beautiful wife, Peta, daughters Morgan and Jassy

kicked back and enjoyed all that is good about Port Macquarie life, before returning to the sunny GC. Happy birthday, Roberto! A heady mix of caffeine and adrenalin wafted through the corridors at Rydges recently, with the national Golden Bean Awards being held in the waterfront event space. Talented roasters from all over the country send in their lovingly roasted beans for an anonymous judging, brewing and tasting by some of the best baristas and coffee palates from around the world. Congrats to Di Bella Coffee, who was awarded the overall Golden Bean gong. The coffee clan hit the Beach House then enjoyed beers and giggles in Zebu Bar and a gala Gatsby event in the barrel room at Cassegrain. Congrats to everyone involved, including Sean and Kristine Edwards, Kevin Chilvers, Roxanna Chan, Bronwyn Martin and the extended local coffee crew. Congrats to the gorgeous Lucy Partridge of Ella Baché and Jesse Wisselo, who tied the knot recently poolside at Sails Resort with celebrant Brooke Bell, followed by an exclusive waterfront reception in Zebu Grill. Eighty special guests, including Maureen and Glenn Partridge, Kay and Gerad Wisselo, Belinda Rodger and Zoe Bevez, Elle and Aiden Brown enjoyed a sun drenched ceremony, where the bride wore a stunning flower crown by her cousin Jessie. Guests enjoyed tea smoked chicken, pork belly and crispy skin

salmon and fillet steak, followed by the couple’s delicious caramel and chocolate mud wedding cake. Guests partied with a private DJ until late, with the happy couple jetting off to Singapore and Thailand for their honeymoon. Congrats, Lucy and Jesse! The gorgeous Rachel Lehman and her girls from the Miss Motivator fitness crew celebrated a night on the town celebrating and year of fitness and fun with a night at Bills Fish House – guests including Jo McNamara of Newman Communications, Nicole Champion, Rebecca Blemith and Hayley Hanks all got their jolly on and kicked on or a night on the town – look out Port Macquarie! Merry Christmas Ladies! Happy birthday to the Grand Dame of Wauchope - the Hastings Coop officially celebrated 100 years of operation recently, with a gala event where it all began - in Wauchope. Over 250 guests enjoyed a night of fun and festivities at the Wauchope Country Club, officiated by Lynn Lelean and attended by Alan Gordon CEO, Tim Walker, Nicole Langdon and Kristy Van Eck. Other special guests including Uncle Bill, David Gillespie, Leslie Williams, Sue Jogever, Necia Waghorn, Peter Besseling, Lee Dixon, Sharon Griffiths and Lisa Intemann, all joined in the fun. What a fabulous organisation! Cheers to you all! Melbourne, here we come! JETGO are here

people, making a Melbourne trip that much easier - we can now touch down in Melbourne in just one hour and twenty five minutes and be in Essendon DFO before you (or your bank account) know it! I’m not sure about you but when I travel domestically, I find myself regularly stretching the boundaries of the carry-on luggage allowance by choice or by force - I always end up carrying an illegally and highly unsuitable amount of hand luggage. A recent trip to Sydney was no different, with me managing to artfully drop all my bits and pieces in a unglorious mess of paper, high heels and pull up banners across the tarmac on my homeward trip to Port Mac ... thanks to the lovely gent who assisted with the pick-up ... nothing like looking like a total clutz in front of Mr Johnny Diesel ... Eek! It’s official: 2017 will finish with a blaze of sparkles and light, with celebration over all over our coastal city, whether it’s a night at the Monte Carlo Casino at Rydges with showgirls and champagne, a night of seafood and chilled tunes at Sails Resort, or simply fish and chips and family on the green as you enjoy a night under the stars. This year the extended Taphouse Group are proud to present the midnight fireworks - we are literally bringing in the New Year with a beautiful bang! Can’t wait! Cheers to a happy and healthy 2018 for all xx ‘til next year!
