ot only is it the start of the Coffs Harbour horse racing season with the sensational Coffs Harbour Gold Cup, it also makes way for the “Rev Up” for 2014 Super Special Stage of the World Rally! So whether it’s the dust off the race course you crave or the dust flying off those fast moving Rally cars … hold onto your hats! It’s going to be nothing short of sensational! We attended a talk by Mr Adrian Newstead, who is the director of the Cooee Aboriginal Art Gallery at Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery. A crowd gathered for this enlightening evening and enjoyed refreshments whilst listening to Adrian tell his story and discuss his book, The Dealer is the Devil. Mr Newstead was also a part of the ever popular Bellingen Readers and Writers Festival. The Program Director, Mr Brian Purcell, commented that it was all about sharing, learning, having fun and coming together with excellent writers in beautiful Bellingen. Highlights included the novelist Alex Miller (twice winner of the Miles Franklin Award), the famous Bellingen Poetry Slam, rediscovering nature in the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre and Dominic Knight, a founder of The Chaser, idealistic cynic now heard 80 coffs coast focus.

The sun was shining for the Sawtell Women’s Bowls Major/Minor 3 Bowls Pairs Carnival 2014. Ladies arrived from far and wide to enjoy the competition. The Carnival is run under the rules of the NSWWBA, so all the ladies were dressed up in their colourful uniforms. Apart from bowling, morning tea and a picnic lunch was available. For anyone with a fancy for Asian fare, Nelsons Chinese Restaurant at the Sawtell Bowling Club was open for lunch. Judy Degnan, who is the President of the Sawtell Women’s Bowlers, commented that it had been a wonderful day and consisted of three games of 13 ends Major/Minor 3 Bowl Pairs. Sawtell Festival Week of Social Bowls. On Tuesday 22nd July the Women’s Club will be holding a Market Day with many stalls, an auction, cakes and produce, plus a great day of bowls. Wednesday is the Men’s Day, with a boat trip on the Nambucca River for the visiting men and women. Thursday has mixed bowls lunch and a film show. Friday is men’s bowls and Saturday is mixed bowls, a dinner and entertainment. I attended the Mannatech’s launch event at the Bonville Golf Resort just recently. Guests sipped champagne whilst listening to industry leading experts like Dr Anne Marie Marynycz (PhD National President of the Association of Professional Aestheticians of Australia. The launch was for the skin rejuvenation creme product “Uth”, which is an innovation in skincare technology. Coffs Harbour is the first regional city to see this revolutionary skincare cream and Mannatech believes that the Coffs Coast is the perfect area to kick off their international series of launch events across Australia, New Zealand and Singapore. The skies cleared and out came the sun for the crowds attending the annual Brides and Grooms Wedding Expo. This is an annual event that is staged at the beautiful Bonville Golf Resort. No less than 500 guests sipped

champagne and enjoyed live entertainment provided by E-Lion, The Frapp and Ben Francis. Delicious mini cupcakes were served by the team from Sweet Love Cake Couture and one couldn’t resist the delicious sweet treats from Amanda Schenk from Sugar Plum Cakes. I have sampled her sensational Desert Buffets and believe me they are scrumptious! Contact Amanda on 0401 864 528. There were exquisitely themed Bonville Ceremony and reception areas decorated by the likes of the super talented “Special Occasions”, to name but a few. With over 35 exhibitors for the guests to peruse, it was a fabulous day. Le Dãin Designs had the pleasure of showcasing a selection of their long gowns, fine millinery and jewells of course! The show had an edge to it courtesy of Jade Woodward of North Coast Fashion Academy. Jade co-ordinated the runway showcase as part of the Mercedes-Benz Coffs Coast Fashion Festival. Staying with weddings and all that jazz! Our dear friends, Dwayne and Anne’s daughter and granddaughter of Shirley and the late John Vignes recently married her fiancé Blake Crompton at the beautiful Villa Vivante.
